The Detroit Red Wings are moving forward without Dylan Larkin, and two of the team's biggest stars have made it clear that the remaining players aren't going to let the controversy derail their season.
Following Thursday night's emotional 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, Moritz Seider and Alex DeBrincat spoke about the challenges facing Detroit after Larkin informed the organization he would no longer play while awaiting a trade.
And while neither player dismissed what Larkin has meant to the franchise, both emphasized the importance of having players who are committed to the team.
Their comments offered an interesting glimpse into a locker room suddenly facing life without its former captain.

Frequent board commenter Solanus tracks an enormous amount of pitcher and catcher data, tabulating each game result by hand. Last year, he gave me enough insight into his spreadsheets where I was able to re-create much of the data he hand tabulates (I'm way too lazy for that!) and I wanted to peak at some of those data points and see what we could learn about the defensive side of their catching corps.
The data itself comes from a mix of sources. Statcast data for actual line-ups and game events (who pitched, who caught, which innings, etc.). Baseball reference.com for overall pitching lines for each game, and with Fangraphs because of course there has to be differences in how the data is constructed that doesn't make it easy. Team ids between sites are different. Player Ids are different. Even game Ids are different, and all three have to be brewed together to knit the data into one consistent result.
I wrote the code. The methods are all Solanus. I simply copied his logic into R code and ran it. So he gets all the credit.
I chose to query both the 2025 and 2026 seasons (you will likely understand why when I go through it). Here is the raw data, and following that some of the interesting morsels I discovered and thought about some.

Michael Olise has developed into one of the world's best players since joining Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace in a €53 million deal in the summer of 2024.
However, the French international could have taken a very different path, with Bild revealing that Borussia Dortmund were also interested in signing him at the time.
According to the German tabloid's "Dortmund Insider" podcast, the Black and Yellows had Olise on their wishlist in 2024 and made specific enquiries about signing him.
But just as Dortmund were exploring the possible terms of a deal, Bayern entered the race. BVB were ultimately left empty-handed, unable to match the €53 million transfer fee.

Speculation surrounding the long-term future of Ronald Araujo has intensified as his representative finally addressed the defender's mindset at Anfield. The Uruguayan international remains a central figure for the Premier League leaders despite persistent links to a continental exit.
The representative for Araujo has sought to clarify the Liverpool defender's current status following a wave of reports suggesting a potential move away from the Premier League. As one of the most consistent performers in the English top flight, Araujo has become a cornerstone of the defensive unit, leading to inevitable interest from across Europe's elite clubs looking to bolster their backlines.
However, despite the noise surrounding a possible departure, the message from his camp remains one of stability and contentment. His agent, Eduardo Crnjar, spoke about the player's current situation and how he feels about his surroundings in the North West of England. "Ronald is performing well , we're very happy with what he's offering, but it's still too early to talk about his future. He feels great, he's happy to be playing for Liverpool and helping the club and his teammates, as he's already said," Crnjar told WinWin Sports, as quoted by SPORT.
While the agent's comments provide some breathing room for the club, the broader context of the transfer market continues to loom over the situation. Several teams have been monitoring the Uruguayan's progress, aware that a defender of his calibre and age profile is a rare commodity in the modern game, especially given his proven track record in both La Liga and the Premier League.
The mention of a €55m valuation has frequently appeared in discussions regarding a potential transfer fee, a figure that many consider to be a bargain for a player of his international standing. Liverpool, however, would likely demand a significantly higher sum to even consider entering negotiations for a player who still has his best years ahead of him at the highest level of European football.

CAIRO (AP) — The Africa Cup of Nations will continue every two years after the Confederation of African Football announced on Friday it voted unanimously to revoke the decision to move the tournament to a four-year cycle.
CAF announced last December that the Africa Cup would be held every four years, starting from 2028, allowing a proposed new competition — the African Nations League — to take place for the first time in 2029.
The decision at the time, bringing the competition to a schedule that aligned with FIFA's international calendar, rankled many at the Africa Cup in Morocco, with some saying it was made with European wishes at heart to the detriment of African interests.
CAF said in October that it was reconsidering the matter.
"The decision by the CAF EXCO that the CAF AFCON should take place every two years was based on advancing, protecting and promoting the interest of African football and CAF's 54 member ******* ociations, as well as the interest of African players employed by football clubs outside Africa," CAF President Patrice Motsepe said in a statement.

Angelique S. Chengelis, Connor Earegood, John Niyo, and Bob Wojnowski of The Detroit News predict the outcome of Saturday's Michigan-Rutgers game at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey (12:30 p.m., Big Ten Network/94.7 FM).
▶ Angelique S. Chengelis: Rutgers coach Greg Schiano has always been tied to defense, but the Scarlet Knights have struggled defensively this season and ranks 128th in scoring. That could make this the "get-right" game for Michigan's offense, which is sorely in need of a confidence-building performance, especially from the run game and offensive line. Michigan's No. 3-ranked defense likely won't have the challenge it was expecting now that Rutgers QB Dylan Lonergan has been ruled out. He left last week's game at Northwestern in the first quarter because of a hit to the head and backup AJ Surace has struggled with six touchdowns against five interceptions this season. Michigan's defensive backs were expected to have their hands full facing 6-foot-6 receiver KJ Duff, but he is "doubtful" for the game, according to the Big Ten availability report. Pick: Michigan, 31-10
▶ Connor Earegood: Rejoice, Jason Beck. You're going to save your job this week. This Michigan offense may be wasting one of the nation's best defenses, but it will get an important tune-up against Rutgers. You know, the Rutgers team that lost to UMass, which is 1-3 in Mid-American Conference play. Oh, Rutgahs. Its availability report suggests some key starters will not play. Its starting QB is hurt, its star receiver is doubtful. A one-read quarterback could probably pick its defense apart at full strength. That's a good opponent for a true freshman in Tommy Carr to face in his second career start, after the **** er of the unknown wore off last week and showed you that maybe, just maybe, it isn't the guy under center who's the problem but rather the guy calling his plays. If Beck takes some inspiration from the Michigan Stadium videoboard and runs the ball between the tackles from time to time, Michigan should roll to an easy win. If it's another stinker, it will make for an interesting crowd in next week's rivalry game. Pick: Michigan, 34-7
▶ John Niyo: If Rutgers can't cure Michigan's offensive woes, nothing will. Greg Schiano's days appear numbered in Piscataway, and the statistical numbers make it obvious why: Rutgers ranks 128th nationally in scoring defense and has given up 161 points in four Big Ten games thus far. Of course, that's more points than the Wolverines have scored in seven games this season. But this defense should be the cure Michigan's inefficient run game needs, and no matter who's playing quarterback, there'll be opportunities to create explosive plays in the pass game. In four Big Ten games, Rutgers already has given up 15 plays of 30-plus yards. Pick: Michigan, 34-16
▶ Bob Wojnowski: There's no such thing as a breather for the Wolverines, with six of their seven games decided on the final possession. Last week's OT loss to Indiana wa

Manchester United are considering an ambitious January move for Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Michael Carrick searches for solutions to his side's growing attacking concerns.
According to Laurie Whitwell and Beren Cross of The Athletic, United have begun ****** sing potential centre-forward targets ahead of the winter transfer window, with Calvert-Lewin emerging as a player of interest.
The 29-year-old England international has rediscovered his goalscoring touch at Elland Road, making him an intriguing option for a Manchester United side facing an increasingly complicated period without Benjamin Sesko.
However, persuading Leeds to part with their leading striker could prove exceptionally difficult.
Calvert-Lewin's resurgence represents one of the more compelling stories in English football. Having endured several injury-disrupted seasons at Everton, the striker has rebuilt his reputation since joining Leeds on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.

Smriti Mandhana has revealed that former India captain MS Dhoni personally congratulated her after the Indian women's team lifted their maiden ODI World Cup ***** le in November 2025.
Speaking at an event featuring Dhoni, Mandhana recalled receiving a WhatsApp message from the legendary cricketer following India's historic triumph. She admitted that the gesture made her particularly happy, knowing that Dhoni is not someone who uses his phone frequently.
"He actually did send me a message after the World Cup win. I know he does not use his phone a lot. I was very happy that he used WhatsApp to congratulate all of us," Mandhana said.
Host Harsha Bhogle then asked Mandhana whether she had saved Dhoni's number.
"I did have his number," she replied.
Dhoni, meanwhile, offered an interesting explanation for choosing Mandhana as the recipient of his message. He revealed that she was the only member of the Indian women's team whose contact number he had saved.
"I did not know anyone else's (number) from the team. I wanted the message to go through. We had just shot (a commercial) before that. I thought, 'Let me send a message to Smriti' and I mentioned, 'Please wish everyone who is part of the team," Dhoni said.
India created history on November 2, 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in Navi Mumbai to win their first-ever Women's ODI World Cup. The triumph ended the team's long wait for an ICC ***** le.
Batting first in the final, India posted 298/7, with Shafali Verma leading the charge with 87 runs and Deepti Sharma contributing 58. Deepti then delivered with the ball, taking five wickets as South Africa were dismissed for 246 despite a century from Laura Wolvaardt.

Alessandro Bastoni remains a potential option for Barcelona as the Catalan club considers reinforcing its central defence, but any attempt to bring the Inter Milan defender to Camp Nou could hinge on a conversation with Hansi Flick.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the 27-year-old Italian is still willing to listen to an approach from Barça despite the disappointment he experienced during last summer's transfer discussions.
Bastoni was previously identified as a priority target by Barcelona's sporting department, with Deco particularly keen to secure his services.
However, the situation changed when Flick decided against making the defender a priority.
Months later, however, Barcelona's interest could return, although the circumstances surrounding a possible transfer have also changed.

Anthony Edwards is expected to be out for around two months, and that is a huge blow for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Ant-Man had a phenomenal start to the new NBA season, and he formed an instant connection with LaMelo Ball. The duo looked incredible together.
However, Edwards has undergone surgery and will be on the sidelines for a while. The Timberwolves need a solution in his absence, and DeMarcus Cousins has shared an interesting suggestion.
Anthony Davis only joined the Washington Wizards in February this year and made his regular-season debut in the opening game of this season.
The former Mavs star has missed several games due to injury in recent years, but on his day, he is up there with the best forwards in the NBA.

Arsenal are preparing to launch negotiations over an extended deal for first-choice goalkeeper David Raya despite the Spaniard recently admitting he would like to play in his homeland one day. Meanwhile, neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid are expected to make an imminent move for the 31-year-old shot-stopper in upcoming transfer windows.
According to Football Insider, the north London hierarchy want to tie their Spanish custodian down beyond his current 2028 expiration date to fend off any future interest from La Liga. Speculation linking him with Spain's two biggest clubs emerged after he told Spanish media last week that he hopes to play in his native top flight eventually. However, the goalkeeper insisted in the same interview that he remains content at the Emirates Stadium.
Having silenced initial sceptics following his move from Brentford to establish himself as the Premier League's standout goalkeeper in recent seasons, Raya registered his fifth clean sheet in eight top-flight outings against Everton last weekend before narrowly losing out on Monday's Yashin Trophy to international team-mate Unai Simon.
Explaining why a switch to Spain is unlikely soon on the Transfer Insider podcast, journalist Pete O'Rourke said: "If he were to leave ******* nal, there's no immediate opening for one of the big boys in Spain right now as well. Barcelona have got Joan Garcia, and it looks like Courtois is going to sign a new contract at Real Madrid as well, so I don't see any opening for David Raya right now.
"The player is happy at ******* nal, and obviously ******* nal are very happy with him, so I think any potential move back to his native Spain will be probably on the back burner for a while just yet."

The Los Angeles Kings found a way to win a game they shouldn't have needed to find a way to win on Thursday night. They might have a change in coaching strategy to thank for that.
After blowing a 5-1 third-period lead, the Kings defeated the Ottawa Senators 6-5 in overtime behind Quinton Byfield's game-winner. But almost as interesting as the wild swings of the game was something Drew Doughty revealed after it ended.
"It's the first year in my whole career that we've ever actually worked on three-on-three," the Kings' captain said. "A lot of credit to the coaches in that area. We worked on it in camp. We worked on it before the season started, and they had a bit of a game plan, which we didn't really have before either. So a lot of credit to them for making us work on it."
If the Kings ever had an offseason where they needed to improve that aspect of their game, it was this past one. They lost an NHL-record 20 overtime and shootout games in 2025-26, a huge part of the reason they finished with the Western Conference's second wild-card spot and were swept out of the playoffs in the first round. First-year head coach Peter Laviolette came in and wanted to make sure the Kings didn't post those numbers again.
"There's definitely a method to the madness, and there's got to be a buy-in to that, and I think the players bought in," Laviolette said. "There's a lot of review that went through it, and there's things that we talk about prior to games and then after games — the overtime games — and reviewing that. And I think the players have done a really good job of executing them."

Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving is being heavily linked with a move to the Miami Heat.
The Heat have had a really poor start to the season, winning just one of their first five games. That has increased the need for reinforcements, and Irving has come up as a potential option.
However, NBA insider Brett Siegel has all but dismissed the chance of this move happening, even if the interest from Miami is genuine.
ESPN's Shams Charania broke the news about the Miami Heat's interest in Irving, but he expressed doubts over the feasibility of the deal.
Siegel has now done exactly the same thing.

Panthers most to blame for Thursday Night Football loss to Packers appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Carolina Panthers had enough opportunities to make Thursday night interesting. Too bad they spent too much of the game making life difficult for themselves. Their defense generated some timely stops, and Chuba Hubbard delivered a productive performance. Bryce Young even produced a late touchdown to keep hope alive. None of it was enough, though. A six-sack nightmare, an inconsistent quarterback performance, and communication problems in the secondary combined to doom Carolina in a 27-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Jeff Hanisch-Imagn Images
Carolina's offensive front deserves the biggest share of the blame for this loss. Green Bay brought consistent pressure and sacked Young six times. They repeatedly disrupted the timing of an offense that needed to establish some rhythm. The Panthers could not reliably protect the pocket. That turned too many passing situations into survival exercises.
The damage went beyond the sack total. Every time Young had to escape pressure, Carolina's receivers had less time to complete their routes and find open ****** e. The Packers could attack aggressively, knowing their rushers had a good chance of reaching the quarterback. That allowed Green Bay to dictate the terms of the matchup.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones once admitted that Donald Trump's involvement in the NFL's national anthem debate was damaging to the league, describing the president's interest as "problematic".
Jones made the comments in 2018, when the NFL was attempting to resolve the controversy surrounding players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice.
The debate had become a major talking point after Trump publicly criticised players who protested and urged the league to punish those who refused to stand.
Speaking at the Cowboys' training camp in California, Jones acknowledged that Trump's comments were creating difficulties for NFL owners.
"His interest in what we're doing is problematic from my chair, and I would say in general the owners' chair," Jones said.

Jones made the comments in 2018, when the NFL was attempting to resolve the controversy surrounding players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice.
The debate had become a major talking point after Trump publicly criticised players who protested and urged the league to punish those who refused to stand.

After being down by 17 points, the Carolina Panthers have been it interesting on Thursday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers. On fourth down, Bryce Young connected with wide receiver Jalen ***** er, who took it to the house for a 26-yard touchdown.
However, Young's pass attempt on the two-point conversion was incomplete, leaving the score at 27-19 in favor of the Green Bay Packers. Their two drives in the fourth quarter have ended in an interception and a punt. The Packers also have a total of three turnovers in this game.
Here is a look at ***** er's touchdown to make it a one-score game, courtesy of the NFL's official social media:
Green Bay's defense has been able to contain Carolina's top receiver, Tetairoa McMillan, for the most part. He currently has five receptions for 50 yards. Running back Chuba Hubbard has been the best player on the Panthers' offense with 118 total yards and a touchdown. Young's touchdown pass to ***** er was his first of the night. It was also ***** er's first touchdown since his two-touchdown performance against the Chicago Bears in the season opener.
Carolina's offense forced the Packers to punt on their next drive, giving the Panthers back the ball with over four and a half minutes left in the game and all three timeouts.

NEW YORK -- The Brooklyn Nets are just four games into their 2026-27 NBA season that they hope will be better than what they put forth during the 2025-26 campaign record-wise. Brooklyn has been trying to correct enough of their issues to hopefully win their first game of the season sooner than later, but the Nets made sure to take care of business with some of their youngest players.
The Nets announced on Thursday that they exercised the third-year team options for their entire 2025 NBA Draft class heading into Friday's NBA Cup game against the visiting Detroit Pistons. Brooklyn selected five players in the 2025 draft: guard Egor Demin, guard Nolan Traore, forward Drake Powell, guard Ben Saraf, and forward Danny Wolf and now, the quintet is under contract for the 2027-28 season.
"We brought them in for a reason. Obviously, picking up options is part of the management, but [it's] the belief on development and the type of people that we bring in," Fernandez said after Thursday's practice about the franchise's announcement. Brooklyn exercising the team options on the entire class was interesting given that only Demin and Traore have been seeing regular rotation minutes at this point in the season.
"We've been together for a little over a year and we believe that every single one of them has a future in this league. Everybody's got different paths to get there and that's okay. But, so far, I think that just proves that we believe in the process," Fernandez continued. While Demin and Traore have proven enough to see NBA minutes on a daily basis, Powell, Saraf, and Wolf will have to continue doing the work in the G League and in practice.
Demin will be out of action for the next week while he rehabs from a right leg bone bruise that he suffered in Tuesday's 125-124 overtime loss to the Boston Celtics, but Traore could just be hitting his stride. Traore entered the starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup against the Celtics and if he continues to produce, he and Demin could be starting together once the former BYU Cougar returns. With that being said, the entire "Flatbush Five" will be in Brooklyn next season.

Rosalía attended the 2026 WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards, held at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, continuing her run of interesting red carpet fashion choices.

The Elsa jacket was the highlight for me, particularly the way the satin bows create the illusion of holding it together. This detail has an interesting connection to Elsa Schiaparelli's fashion history. In 1927, the designer introduced her famous trompe-l'œil bow sweater, which used an optical illusion to make a knitted bow appear three-dimensional.

NBA rumors: Will Suns use Jalen Green as trade bait to acquire PG help amid early frustrations? appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Phoenix Suns have stumbled out of the gate to a 1-2 record to start the 2026-27 NBA season. Devin Booker totaled just three points in the Suns' last game, a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Jalen Green has also had a rough start to the year.
Recently, ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel spoke on the possibility of the Suns looking for point guard help in their backcourt.
"Could the Suns look to make a trade for a point guard? Maybe. They're not going to rush into anything right now, given their cap situation, but they do have an interesting contract on their roster… Jalen Green. Does he fit in next to Devin Booker, because neither of those guys are a true point guard… maybe this is the year that (a Green trade) finally goes down," he said, per ClutchPoints on X, formerly Twitter.

Jaylen Brown's talk with Daniel Radcliffe offered lessons beyond basketball appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Jaylen Brown had plenty to say about basketball during his conversation with Daniel Radcliffe. The more interesting question, however, concerned how much power he plans to give everyone who talks about him.
Across discussions about personal recognition, public criticism, and Harry Potter, the Philadelphia 76ers forward returned to a consistent idea: Other people can judge him, but he gets to decide which judgments deserve his attention.
That distinction gave their October 29 podcast appearance substance beyond the unexpected pairing. Brown offered an approach to ambition that leaves room for achievement without making approval the ultimate destination.

ATLANTA – Thank you for coming to the WNBA Finals! Also, please leave the building.
Now.
The circus surrounding the moving of this game to a 12:30 p.m. start time on a Thursday was bad enough, but I'm not sure we talked enough about the circus going on inside the building in order to pull this off.
Game 6, won by the Dream 80-69, was a major-league event with a minor league schedule.
Saturday's Game 4 gave us a preview. That game began at 1 p.m. and all working media and staff were required to leave the building by 4:30 p.m. to accommodate the Hawks-Rockets game taking place immediately afterward. Generally, if you're a burgeoning league trying to increase awareness and interest, it's not a great idea to shoo all your media partners out the door right as they're trying to tell the world all about your product. Logistically, it worked out, barely, as writers scattered off to ****** orted hotels and coffee bars to finish their stories, and happy fans had at least a few minutes to whoop and holler before exiting into a glorious 70-degree day … but imagine if it had gone to overtime?

Max Verstappen has joked that his former team-mate Daniel Ricciardo is "a smart man" for picking him for his dream Le Mans line-up. In fact, he revealed that the pair of them had already discussed the possibility of it.
In a recent interview with the Beyond the Grid podcast, the Australian talked about his time at Red Bull and his exit from Formula 1. While he discussed what was next for him, he said that a Le Mans entry could be on the list. When asked who he'd team up with, Max Verstappen was the first name on his list. Sebastian Vettel was also an option, making something he called a "nice little Red Bull reunion" of sorts.
"He's a smart man to choose me in the car," Verstappen joked. "But we have to see. It just depends on a lot of things."
The four-time world champion has made no secret of his interest in endurance racing with him recently competing at Portimao, where he and his team finished ninth. He did, however, stress that he would only take on Le Mans with full preparation.
"Also for me, if I want to do it, I want to do it proper with really good prep. And at the moment I cannot do that. I don't have the time - the free time to dedicate to a Le Mans project with all the other things that I'm also doing outside of Formula 1."

Phoebe Dynevor became internationally famous through Bridgerton, and that sudden success also brought increased attention to her personal life. The British actress has experienced everything from relatively private relationships to a highly publicized romance followed by photographers and tabloids. Over time, however, Dynevor has become increasingly careful about separating her career from her relationships. Her romantic history has included actors and figures outside the entertainment spotlight, but her relationship with Cameron Fuller ultimately became the most significant chapter. After beginning their romance in 2023, the couple became engaged and later married.
Before Bridgerton transformed her public profile, Dynevor was linked to several men, including British actor Sean Teale and executive Simon Merrill. These relationships attracted comparatively limited attention, partly because they occurred before she became internationally recognizable as Daphne Bridgerton. The success of the Netflix period drama dramatically changed the amount of interest surrounding her life away from the screen.
That became especially clear in 2021, when Dynevor dated American comedian Pete Davidson. Their relationship generated intense media attention as the pair were photographed together and followed by celebrity publications. Dynevor later reflected on the experience of suddenly having strangers interested in something she considered an ordinary part of being a young woman. The relationship ended after several months, with their demanding schedules and distance widely reported as challenges.
A quieter chapter began when Dynevor was linked to actor and producer Cameron Fuller in 2023. The pair initially kept much of their relationship away from public attention, although they gradually began appearing together at events. Fuller comes from an entertainment industry family and has worked both in front of and behind the camera.
Their relationship reached another milestone in 2024. Dynevor attended the Met Gala wearing a pale pink Victoria Beckham gown and revealed a diamond ring on her left hand, bringing widespread attention to their engagement. Fuller and Dynevor largely continued their low key approach afterward rather than turning their wedding preparations into a constant public storyline.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer pushed back Sunday on comments made by former first lady Michelle Obama last year that U.S. voters aren't ready to elect a female president.
"Listen, I have got a lot of colleagues who I think are probably interested in running for president, and I've heard everyone say, 'You can't have this person or that person,'" the governor told NBC News' "Meet the Press."
"I would put my money on any Democratic governor in the country against [Vice President] JD Vance or [Secretary of State] Marco Rubio in 2028," she added, pointing to two Republicans widely expected to run for president in two years.
Asked directly whether a woman could be the best choice to beat a potential GOP presidential nominee in 2028, Whitmer simply said, "I do."
In 2025, Obama said in public remarks: "As we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain't ready. That's why I'm like, don't even look at me about running, because you all are lying. You're not ready for a woman. You are not."

With the federal budget deficit at $2 trillion and debt-interest costs topping $1 trillion a year, it may be tempting to look for extra cash under the sofa cushions.
Urgency has grown in recent months as Treasury yields have soared to the highest levels in more than 20 years, putting more pressure on interest expenses.
The Treasury Department has tried some unconventional measures recently to take the heat off yields, including buybacks of more long-dated debt and its intervention to prop up the yen that let ***** an avoid selling its Treasuries.
Given such surprises, speculation has grown around even more far-out tactics. One idea that comes up from time to time is for the Treasury Department to price its immense gold holdings at market rates.
The U.S. has the world's largest gold reserves, which total about 261.5 million ounces, or more than double what No. 2 holder Germany has. But the U.S. ***** d's official price was set by Congress in 1973 at $42.22 per ounce, and it hasn't changed since.

Charlize Theron leaned into the age-old color-blocking trend for her latest public appearance in a Givenchy outfit. "The Odyssey" star accepted the Award of Inspiration at the amfAR Dallas 2026 on October 24. She looked stunning as ever in the outfit that blended deconstructed athletic wear and avant-garde tailoring.
For the amfAR Dallas 2026, Charlize Theron pulled an outfit straight from the runway. She was wearing a red-and-black color-blocked look from Givenchy's Spring 2027 Ready-to-Wear collection. It featured a fitted, finely ribbed black tank top with a classic scoop neckline. The top had double-strap detailing along the shoulders, creating subtle cutouts. Further, vivid red contrast binding along the neck and armholes framed her upper torso with crisp, geometric energy.
The lower half of the look transitioned into wide-leg trousers featuring a unique architectural drape. A wrapped, jacket-like layer folded downward over the hips. This inverted upper structure featured structured lapels trimmed in matching crimson piping, creating a layered trompe-l'œil effect. The voluminous folds added an intentional sense of asymmetry and rich textural depth to the otherwise minimalist black base.
A black leather belt with an oversized, round metallic disc buckle brought a hardware element that drew the eye straight to her waist. Further, Theron's beauty styling kept the spotlight firmly on the outfit's strong lines and interesting palette. She wore her blonde hair in an edgy, wet-look short crop. Soft, side-swept tendrils casually framed one side of her face while the rest was slicked back cleanly.
The Academy Award winner's makeup was minimal but striking, featuring a matte complexion, defined eyes, light pink blush on her cheeks, and a neutral, rosy-nude lip. She wore a stack of silver earrings that framed her face without distracting from her outfit. Black leather open-toe mules peeked from underneath her trousers, maintaining the dark color palette.

In a rare Sunday hearing, a federal appeals court judge appointed by President Trump questioned how the Trump administration's request to intervene in California's ongoing midterm election in order to force state officials to set aside 20,000 ballots from voters whose citizenship it questions squares with the U.S. Constitution.
Judge Mark J. Bennett said that while the executive branch is "unhappy" with what California law requires for ensuring voters are citizens, the state has the right to determine the manner of its elections under the Elections Clause of the Constitution and Congress has not challenged that process, despite having the ability to do so.
"It seems to me that you want us to issue an injunction that is entirely inconsistent with the law the California Legislature has adopted pursuant to the Elections Clause," Bennett said. "How can we do that?"
Matthew Donnelly, a Justice Department attorney, said the Trump administration has good reason to believe those ballots are from ineligible noncitizen voters, and has the legal right under separate federal criminal law to challenge their tabulation until state officials can prove otherwise.
Donnelly said both federal criminal law and state election law bar noncitizen voters from casting ballots, but "the problem is that California isn't interested in enforcing that provision."
