His opponent Myktybek Orolbai seemed to be on the verge of a breakthrough moment, dominating social media numbers throughout the week, with a strong Kyrgyzstan fanbase seeming ready to lay claim to a megastar. However, Wells (14-4-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC) had other plans.

Preseason game number one for the New Orleans Saints is finally here. After a scrimmage with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, the Saints will host the Jaguars in the Superdome on Saturday afternoon. It will be the first 2026 preseason outing for either team.
Most starters for both teams will sit out the game. However, there is still much to keep an eye on for both teams. The Saints look like a much-improved roster from the 2026 version, but now have to show it on the field. This preseason test will be against a Jaguars squad coming off a 13-4 season and an AFC South championship. Here are a few things to watch closest during Saturday's Saints-Jaguars clash.
Don't expect any of the New Orleans starting five to see the field. However, this unit must show that they have some quality depth. Losing veteran Dillon Radunz for the year hurts. Radunz was able to fill in at multiple spots and had starting experience. The spotlight will be on second-year players Torricelli Simpkins, Easton Kilty, and rookie Jeremiah Wright on the inside. At tackle, Asim Richards along with undrafted rookies Alan Herron and Alex Wollschlaeger will have their opportunities.New Orleans has yet to sign a veteran offensive lineman after the injury to Radunz. Their philosophy is clearly to see what they have in their younger players. Saturday's performance of this unit against Jacksonville will help determine whether the Saints need to bring in veteran additions to the position before the end of training camp.

Riding a three-fight winning streak, Orolbai (16-2-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) is breaking out the English – and it's pretty good – ahead of his UFC 330 bout on Saturday vs. Jeremiah Wells. The bout takes place in Philadelphia, two hours from where Wells (13-4-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) grew up.
Enemy territory? Orolbai is used to it.
"No problem," Orolbai said. "I'm everyday in the gym training two to three times, brother. My second fight was a Brazilian fighter. It was Elves Brener. (Same with) Tofiq Musayev (in) Azerbaijan, Baku. Whatever country, I go. No problem, brother. I like my opponent, country, and fight. I like. I'm ready."
While he doesn't mind traveling, experiencing all of the homecomings has made him want one of his own. The UFC has never been to Kyrgyzstan, but Orolbai hopes to change that. Give him a couple years, he said.

While expectations for Duke football this season are down following the Blue Devils' surprise run to the ACC ****** le last year, there is one player who is getting some preseason hype: Jeremiah Hasley.
The tight end was named first-team All-ACC at conference media days while also receiving some All-American honors. As a junior last season, the Pennsylvania native recorded 40 receptions for 454 yards and six touchdowns, breaking through as a reliable target for Darian Mensah.
With Mensah and leading receiver Cooper Barkate now gone, Hasley will continue to be one of the main targets for either Walker Eget or Dan Mahan.
The Athletic's Bruce Feldman knows how crucial Hasley will be for Duke's offense, recently naming him to his "Freaks List" heading into the 2026 season.

The New Orleans Saints might not have planned to rely heavily on Jeremiah Wright immediately. However, as training camp has progressed, injuries appear to be accelerating the rookie right guard's development. The Saints lost veteran lineman Dillon Radunz for the season after he suffered a torn ACL in practice. The injury removed an experienced and versatile reserve from the equation, creating an opportunity for Wright to earn meaningful snaps earlier than initially anticipated. The Saints selected the 6-foot-5, 331-pound Wright with pick No. 132 overall in April's draft. After missing a couple of practices himself, the former Auburn Tigers starter returned to the field on Tuesday and immediately caught head coach Kellen Moore's attention.

Aug. 10—PULLMAN — Jeremiah Bernard left his feet and dove like he was Superman about to snuff out a local crime. The ball had just left the hands of Owen Eshelman, one of three Washington State quarterbacks vying for starting duties, and it was headed for a receiver toward the sideline of Rogers Practice Field.
It never made it there. Bernard made sure of that, roving over from the safety position and laying out to break up the pass, a feat of athleticism and football savvy. He leapt to his feet in a second, in a heartbeat, the moment's adrenaline propping him back up as quickly as he had soared through the air.

We are 27 days away from Penn State football, and we have another newcomer to profile. Donning the 27 this season is Omarion Davis, a sophomore safety originally from Charlotte, NC. Davis spent his freshman season at Boston College, where he played in all 12 games and had two starts. He finished the year with just 13 tackles though, so despite the starts, he was more of a special teams player. Davis then entered the portal after the season, and found his way to Penn State where he'll hope to crack the safety rotation behind the likes of Marcus Neal, Jeremiah Cooper, Jamison Patton, and Vaboue Toure.

Harmon came to Tennessee from Rome, Georgia, where he was a consensus four-star player and top 200 recruit by On3. He made a quick impact last season as a true freshman. He was a special teams standout and notched 19 total tackles.

The organization officially claimed wide receiver Tejhaun Palmer off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon. In a corresponding 91-man roster move, tight end Jeremiah Franklin was placed on waivers.
Palmer, 26, entered the NFL in the sixth round of the 2024 draft at No. 191 overall. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound wide receiver by way of Snow College and UAB spent the majority of his initial two regular seasons on the Cardinals' practice squad. Ahead of Arizona's finale last January, Palmer was promoted to the 53-man roster. He saw four snaps on offense to go with two snaps on special teams in his debut and was waived on Monday.
Franklin, 22, had signed in Foxborough as an undrafted free agent leading up to training camp in July. He quickly picked the Week 2 nonconference matchup against Texas, a rematch between the coach-quarterback duos of Ohio State's Ryan Day and Julian Sayin and Texas' Steve Sarkisian and Arch Manning.
"I circled [the] Texas game because you hear a lot about their stadium and how loud it gets. And it's our first big away game, so I'm excited for it," said Smith

To the editor: OSU is adding a JPMorgan Chase logo patch to all 36 varsity sport teams uniforms. The football team uniforms will also have a Nike logo and a Big Ten patch. In couple more years the uniforms will look like NASCAR driver suits. What next, naming rights for the team benches and medic tents? How about all the team support staff and managers having patches like the NASCAR pit crews? Next, they can add bus wraps for home and away rental busses with all kinds of additional sponsorships. Finally, we can start to add patches all over the uniforms of TBDBITL. Is the day very far away when the players and coaches will have to wear custom gear anytime they are on campus? The quest to grab more money to buy more players and build bigger facilities is beyond the pale.

To Raymond: If that's what it takes to pay the next Jeremiah Smith, I wouldn't put it past them. And neither would most of their fans.
Dear Brian: One thing became very clear after LeBron James announced his intent to take his talents (less than what they used to be) to Philadelphia: He never had any loyalty to the city, fan base or organization in Cleveland — a fan base that revered him, one that hoped he'd sign with the Cavs and end his career on a fairy tale note with one last hope of another championship. It was not to be. It was James' right to sign anywhere he wanted, no questioning that, but he was never the King of Cleveland, not even close. Yes, he helped bring a long-awaited championship to the city of Cleveland, and for that I am ever grateful! The Indians should have in 1997, but that is another story. It's apparent James didn't revere Cleveland as much as we would have liked to think. Remember him yelling "This is for you, Cleveland" after the Game 7 Finals victory in 2016? I think that was more about redemption for himself after he bungled the first free agency decision than about Cleveland ending its 52-year championship drought. The true face of Cleveland is Jose Ramirez. No doubt about it, not even close. The future Hall of Famer has shown his love for the city, the fans and the organization time and time again, signing extensions for less than what he could get on the open market. One could argue Joe Thomas and even Joel Bitonio are better representations of Cleveland than LeBron ever was. I'll always be grateful for the 2016 championship, but leave LeBron out of the King of Cleveland discussions.

Ohio State is known for its long list of standout wide receivers, and this year's roster will have no shortage of talent. But there's a name that may not be at the top of the list of potential x-factors that could raise the Buckeyes' ceiling even more. According to ESPN, Ohio State freshman wide receiver Chris Henry is labeled as the key x-factor for the Buckeyes' success in 2026.
"Can Henry make an impact as a true freshman, alongside All-American Jeremiah Smith and veteran Brandon Inniss? At 6-foot-5, Henry has the tools to become a dangerous downfield and red zone weapon for quarterback Julian Sayin," ESPN's Jake Trotter wrote. "Defenses will be loading up to slow Smith, which figures to give Henry plenty of favorable opportunities to show he can be Ohio State's next great wide receiver."
Henry was a consensus five-star prospect in the 2026 class and enters his true freshman season as a pivotal part of the offense for Ohio State. While Smith and Innis will be one of the top 1-2 combos at wideout across the entire country, adding the skill and size that Henry brings to the field would be another addition to an already explosive offense.
Ohio State has always had two stars on the outside, but what has made its offense so dependable and effective year after year is the ability to have 3-4 wideouts consistently on the field and producing. Whether it was Smith, Emeka Egbuka, Innis and Carnell Tate or the years of Marvin Harrison Jr, Julian Fleming, Egbuka or the dating back to the early 2020's of Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba -- the talent level at wideout has made it nearly impossible for opposing defenses to slow down Ohio State's offense.
With the 2026 season right around the corner, though there's still a competition and other veterans in the room, Henry appears to be the guy that Ohio State is looking at to step up and be impactful from day one.
