Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer defended his team's effort but not the results after Sunday night's loss to the Packers.
On a night when Dak Prescott threw two interceptions, Schottenheimer pointed the finger at turnovers.
"The effort is right, the fight is right, but mistakes are killing us," Schottenheimer said. "We've got to protect the football."
At 2-4, the Cowboys are not a good team right now, but there are no good teams in the NFC East and the Cowboys are actually the betting favorites to win the division. Schottenheimer thinks there's still a future for his team.
"We're in a hole. We've put ourselves there. There's one way out of it. I told our guys we've got to work, we've got to find solutions, we can't repeat mistakes. And they understand that," Schottenheimer said.

All of a sudden, that 24-team College Football Playoff format might be front and center for an SEC dreaming of getting five, six, ten of its members into the postseason tournament.

Yes, the CFP is supposed to use a new metric – which is really a twist on what it already utilizes – that gives more respect to the strengths of schedules. That's supposed to boost the SEC – give, say, 2025 Texas credit for losing at Ohio State, even though it went 9-3 – but there are two issues with that, at least when it comes to what we're projecting below.

First, the College Football Playoff always falls back on record ranking. If there's a debate in the Grapevine meeting room – it's nice; the food is tremendous – 10-2 is a lot easier to sell than 9-3, which is why we haven't seen Power Four programs with three pre-conference championship losses leapfrog those with two or fewer.

And second, even though the upsets are coming – last Saturday probably wasn't an outlier – there's no way, no how, no chance the committee will put in a 9-3 power conference team in over an 11-1 Power Four program.

That's where the SEC comes in. A few weeks ago, it looked like the conference would own the CFP. And then Florida started losing. So did LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. Now, as we're doing this just past the midway point in the season, there are just four SEC teams left – Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tennessee – with fewer than two losses, and all of them have one.

So how many SEC teams will make the College Football Playoff? Our best guess is three, and it'll take a shoehorn to make that happen. (By the way, we're still bullish on Kentucky, but we're predicting a few close losses over the next few weeks.)

Notre Dame's 2026 college football schedule has been called many thing over the last eight months, but "tough" or anywhere near the word "hard" was certainly not among them. Still, some have mentioned that this Irish schedule could look a lot trickier as the season progresses. While they may eventually be true, it may not matter all that much (except for message boards and social media).
Notre Dame took a minute or two to get going against the Wisconsin Badgers in the season opener, but eventually the Irish whooped them 42-13. Notre Dame welcomed the Rice Owls to South Bend for the home opener, and sent them back to Texas with a 52-0 loss. Although the Irish were big favorites against Michigan State, they got their best shot — and still beat the Spartans 27-10. The Irish were once again massive favorites over a Big 10 team, and they more than covered against Purdue with a 49-10 win that was never that close. Notre Dame was better than a three touchdown favorite against North Carolina, but ran into a bit of a clunker (and rain) and beat the Tar Heels 37-26. After two weeks on the road, Notre Dame returned to South Bend and the homecooking did them well as the Irish destroyed the Stanford Cardinal 58-7. Disaster hit the Irish against BYU in a 28-24 loss, and no matter what part of the game you want to complain about (because there was quite a bit) the simplest thing to say is that Notre Dame flat out got outplayed by the Cougars. Notre Dame will now be able to chomp down some cheeseburgers during their bye week.
Notre Dame is still likely to be favored in every game this season, and they are still a popular pick to win the national championship. Their strength of schedule probably isn't going to matter much, but let's keep track of it anyway.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Yandy Díaz has sparked the Tampa Bay Rays to the verge of their first World Series trip since 2020.
Díaz had three hits, including a double, and scored the first run in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians that gave the Rays 3-2 lead in the AL Championship Series.
Díaz has hits in seven of eight postseason games and is batting .314 with four doubles, a home run and an .847 OPS as the Rays' leadoff hitter.
"I'm probably a little biased, but Yandy is one of my favorite players to watch," Rays closer Bryan Baker said. "When he gets going, we're a different team with the way he works at-bats."
Game 6 is Monday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, where the Rays are 58-27 during the regular season and playoffs. A potential Game 7 would be Tuesday in the same stadium.

The Los Angeles Rams gave away replica Super Bowl Championship rings ahead of their game against the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 18.
The giveaway was meant to honor the five-year anniversary of the 2021 Super Bowl championship season, but the fake rings may have been symbolic of Sunday's game – given away by a team that was considered Super Bowl favorites before the start of the season.
The Rams fell to 2-4 on the season, with two of those losses coming in the span of the last seven days. Coach Sean McVay and the Rams dropped an NFC West game 18-16 Sunday after the Cardinals made a field goal as time expired.
While the Rams aren't deserving of the status as Super Bowl favorites anymore, the team proved that it could still hang around with a championship-quality team such as the Buffalo Bills. Los Angeles lost a close game to start the week against the Buffalo Bills, 37-34, in overtime on Monday Night Football.

Notre Dame's 28-24 loss to BYU on Saturday night was all kinds of hurt. As we pointed out earlier, there are layers to his kind of loss (and that was barely scratching the surface). Obviously a loss like that is going to affect the rankings and the chances to win a national championship. Right?
Well… maybe.
When the odds came out on Sunday, Notre Dame was one of the favorites to win the national championship. Some oddsmakers had the Irish having the nest odds in the country, but FanDuel Sportsbook had Notre Dame behind Ohio State — and now as of publishing this post, Georgia is ahead of the Irish too.
Betting odds aren't always the best predictors of future success, but it's quite something that even after a loss like the Irish just had to BYU — this whole season is still very much in play.
There are plenty of things we can rage about when it comes to this Notre Dame football team, but that is the case for most of the country as well. It's why a day like we just saw all over college football on Saturday happens. It's nuts, but that's what makes college football, college football.

I'm living proof of the saying that "kids keep you young." My wife and I don't need social media. We've got multiple social barometers living in our house. But my usual reaction to every new trend or slang that enters their lexicon ("cooked" and "tuff" have been the new favorites) is skepticism. Before I try to figure out how much attention I need to put into what has them hyped, I try to figure out how serious they are about their enthusiasm.
Sunday's fantasy football action left me in a similar spot. We didn't get many massive box score performances from our stars. Instead, Week 6 was about our mid- and late-round picks or waiver-wire acquisitions. And with some giving us repeat results, the storylines coming out of Sunday should have us adjusting how we approach fantasy free agency on Tuesday.
Both Trevor Lawrence and C.J. Stroud were hooping all morning. They were the perfect pivot from whatever we had to watch on TNF. But as I was watching the Texans offense, a couple of things stood out.

First, Stroud's command of the offense was at an all-time high. Jacksonville came into the game with the 12th-highest pressure rate. Houston had a twofold response. It used an extra lineman on 35.6% of its plays (a season-high), and Stroud was getting rid of the football in 2.31 seconds (a season-low). The result was not only his lowest pressure rate (8.6%) but also his highest EPA per dropback (0.35). More importantly, the Jaguars' defensive measures, which included blitzing Stroud on 31.4% of his dropbacks, didn't stop him from throwing the ball.

We've got one ******* of an SEC season on our hands, huh?
No one is left undefeated, and the top of the table is a four-way tie between Tennessee, Georgia, Ole Miss, and… Kentucky?? And let's be honest, none of their losses were great. Tennessee dropped a home game to Texas, which has looked like a shell for two weeks. Georgia got punked by Auburn (again at home.) Ole Miss got run over by Florida which looks like the best or the worst team in the conference depending on when you tune in. And Kentucky didn't just get beat by Alabama in Lexington… they got waxed.
Mizzou fans might be down in the dumps after the Tigers' embarrassing showing in Oxford, but we're halfway through the season and have no idea how it's going to turn out. For all we know, Mizzou controls its own destiny. So it might as well start on Monday by resting up and getting ready for the Halloween showdown against Arky. Hopefully the rest of the conference can keep the chaos rolling in Week 8 and create an opening for Eli Drinkwitz's squad.
Some interesting lines this week for those of you watching. Auburn is getting no respect after waltzing into Athens and taking down Georgia, as they're giving 8.5 points to Lane Kiffin's up-and-down Bayou Bengals. Meanwhile, South Carolina is a one score favorite over conference leader Tennessee, while Texas – which is currently considering benching its two-year starter!! – is a 3.5-point favorite over an Ole Miss team that just beat a fellow ranked conference opponent by four scores.

The schedule started off strong on Monday, with a lineup that opened with 2026 LVMH Prize winner Julie Kegels and closed with avant-garde, industry-favorite Matières Fécales. Rihanna was spotted at the latter, making a grand, fashionably-late entrance in a gold tinsel two-piece, while fellow A-listers—Jennifer Lawrence, Tate McRae, Kendall Jenner with Jacob Elordi, Katie Holmes with Jason Bard Yarmosky, Alexa Chung, and Gabbriette—settled into their hotels and toasted the week ahead at parties and dinners galore.
On Tuesday, Jonathan Anderson sat the likes of Rosalía, Jennifer Lawrence, Anya Taylor-Joy, Cynthia Erivo, Greta Lee, Eileen Gu, Mia Goth, Ejae, and Karlie Kloss front row at his presentation for Christian Dior. Maison Margiela and Saint Laurent followed suit later that evening.

Jennifer Lopez is continuing her Paris Fashion Week style streak with another head-turning brown look. Just days after making a statement in a backless white lace dress, Lopez stepped out in a daring Stella McCartney gown. The look brought together several of the singer and actor's favorite red-carpet elements. It featured a figure-skimming silhouette and unexpected cutouts.
Lopez wore the Stella McCartney dress to a September 30 gala benefiting Naked Heart France in Paris. She posed alongside McCartney at the dinner, held at Langosteria at Cheval Blanc Paris. The event brought together guests including Natalia Vodianova, Bar Refaeli, and Taylor Hill. The dinner supported Naked Heart France's work with autistic children and their families.
The rich brown dress featured gathered fabric across the bodice, creating a draped effect that flowed down the front of the gown. But the biggest surprises came from the sides and back. A cutout exposed Lopez's midriff, while the backless construction revealed much of her back. The thigh-high slit rose dramatically along one side of the gown, putting one leg firmly in the spotlight.
Lopez kept the rest of the styling sleek, pairing the gown with black peep-toe heels, a matching clutch, a statement diamond ring, and small stud earrings. Her hair was pulled back with face-framing pieces, keeping the focus on the dress's dramatic open-back detail.
The singer recently made another daring fashion statement in a white lace dress. That dress also featured a completely open back and thigh-high slit. She styled the romantic, sheer design with white socks and black loafers, giving the glamorous look a surprisingly casual finish.

New York City Ballet hosted its glamorous annual fashion gala last night, with Sarah Jessica Parker and Stevie Nicks making fantastic appearances in fairy-inspired looks. And while the ballerinas in their white minidresses and glittery black ensembles certainly took the spotlight, there was another bright light, not on the stage but on the red velvet seats of David H. Koch Theater: Olivia Rodrigo.
The pop singer dressed up in a lovely white slip dress for the evening. The silky number had the most delicate spaghetti straps and a romantic floral lace neckline. The lace detailing continued down the sides of the floor-length dress and center of the skirt. And even more romance was offered by the piece's breezy open back.
The piece was a vintage Chloé by Stella McCartney design from the house's Spring/Summer 1998 collection. It was sourced for Rodrigo from It-girl favorite Raffe Vintage.
The You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love singer let the angelic dress do the talking, pairing it simply with a shimmery, floral-embroidered clutch, some diamond rings, and a single hair clip.

For his first-ever fashion show, Martin Andrijasevic, one half of the fan-favorite content-creating duo Slushy Noobz, used a face wash. "I washed my face with a cleanser, which I don't do normally and I probably should, but I thought that this would be a great day to do it," he tells Teen Vogue. Hamzah Al-Emad, the other star of Slushy Noobz, commemorated the moment with deodorant and Chapstick. "Feeling confident," he adds.
Attending Acne Studios' Women's Spring Summer 2027 show at Paris Fashion Week, Andrijasevic and Al-Emad, were dressed by the brand and styled by Kim Russell. A pink polo and low-rise pinstripe pants, complete with the Camero shoulder bag, gave Andrijasevic's front row look a Y2K flair. Caddyshack star Michael O'Keefe, who played Danny Noonan in the 1980 film, revealed that cocaine use was rampant on set at the time and claimed that it was even included in the film's budget.
"There was some miscellaneous item," the 71-year-old actor told Page Six in a report published Friday, October 2. "It was the '70s. That's what was happening back then. People were just treating it like it was toothpaste, and you had to do it twice a day to stay healthy."
O'Keefe also confessed to doing cocaine before filming scenes for the 1980 comedy, which starred Ted Knight, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield.
"It was not my favorite memory because in retrospect I can see those moments on camera and I'm not too happy about them," O'Keefe shared.
