An Ohio congresswoman is facing major blowback online after suggesting that lynchings are on the rise in the United States, despite that claim being widely debunked last week.
"In the last year, there's been an alarming increase in Black Americans found dead hanging from trees. We know what that has meant throughout our history," said Rep. Shontel Brown, D-Ohio, on X. "That's why I've joined [Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.] to demand a federal investigation into possible lynchings."
Fox News Digital reviewed some high-profile cases after Pressley's letter to the DOJ demanding "thorough, transparent, and comprehensive federal investigation into every hanging death of a Black individual across the United States." Last week, Pressley and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., posted about the letter on their X accounts, drawing blowback and widespread debunking of the suggestion that there has been an uptick in lynchings.
Rep. Shontel Brown, D-Ohio, takes her seat for the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing with "Sanctuary State Governors" in the Capitol Visitor Center on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

It's the middle of September and Pat Kelsey and company are still active in the transfer portal.
LJ Wells, a 6'8 power forward who played the last four seasons at Northern Kentucky, has committed to play for Louisville in 2026-27. Wells is the namesake plaintiff in the ongoing Wells vs. NCAA case in Jefferson County Circuit Court that earned a fifth-year of eligibility for players like Wells, D'Angelo Hutchinson, Jabari Mack, and Missouri hooper Mark Mitchell.
Wells started all 33 games for the Norse last season, posting career-best averages of 15.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He also earned All-Horizon Tournament Team honors after averaging 22.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.7 ***** ists while helping NKU to the Horizon League semis, where they fell to eventual champion Wright State.
It feels weird to be adding players like this, especially when you can't be 100 percent sure if they're even going to be able to play this winter, but this is a nice depth add at a position where U of L could definitely use some additional depth.
Welcome aboard, LJ.

HOLMES TOWNSHIP - Wynford used its retro act of a strong rushing attack to snap a two-game losing streak and beat Buckeye Central 41-6 in Northern 10 play Friday night.
The Royals (1-1, 2-2) ran for 492 yards and six touchdowns, led by Deegan Lutz's 246 yards and Braylon Wells' 209 — they both had a trio of scores.
MORE N10: Anschutz, Guegold propel Lucas to first conference win as a member of N10
"We came out and were physical tonight," first-year Wynford coach Andy Amlin said. "We lacked focus the last two weeks and I thought we had that. I thought we executed offensively a lot better than we had."
The hosts took a 14-0 lead thanks to Wells' two-yard burst and Lutz's 18-yard run in the first quarter. Wells then ripped off a 63-yard touchdown with 5:18 left in the first half for a three-score margin.

Tamboran Resources Corporation (NYSE:TBN) announced September 7 that it and Daly Waters Energy, LP had begun gas sales from the Shenandoah South Pilot Project into Australia's Northern Territory network. The deliveries mark the Beetaloo Basin's first gas sales and move the project into revenue generation.
The Sturt Plateau Compression Facility has a capacity of approximately 48.5 million cubic feet per day. Contracted supply of approximately 38.8 million cubic feet per day is expected by early 2027 under a long-term take-or-pay agreement with the Northern Territory Government. These are gross project volumes. Commissioning gas receives a discounted price because supply remains interruptible.
Tamboran Resources Corporation (NYSE:TBN) now has a working route from wells through processing infrastructure to a customer. All five wells on the Shenandoah South 2 pad have been drilled, stimulated and connected to the facility. Initial deliveries reduce uncertainty around the physical connection between the resource and its market.
Contracted demand equals 80% of stated processing capacity, providing a substantial foundation for utilization once production reaches the target. Take-or-pay agreements generally require buyers to pay for committed volumes even if they do not take delivery, subject to contractual conditions.
The gas sales agreement specifies a fixed price with annual adjustments linked to Australia's Consumer Price Index. That structure provides more revenue visibility than relying entirely on spot-market demand, although the price remains confidential.

On August 27, AstraZeneca PLC (NYSE:AZN) and Amgen Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN) scored a shared clinical victory. Positive high-level results from the Phase III CROSSING trial showed that their co-developed severe asthma drug, TEZSPIRE, achieved statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements across both co-primary endpoints, histologic remission and the frequency/severity of dysphagia, and all key secondary endpoints at week 24 in patients with eosinophilic esophagitis. These benefits were sustained through week 52 across both tested doses, accompanied by a safety profile consistent with its approved indications. While CROSSING highlights their joint R&D success, a closer look at their standalone financial performance reveals distinct growth trajectories.
Both pharmaceutical giants delivered solid Q2 2026 results, but AstraZeneca is showing stronger overall financial momentum. AstraZeneca PLC (NYSE:AZN)'s Q2 revenue increased 6% year over year to $15.38 billion, supported by its Oncology franchise, which grew 18% in H1 to $14.12 billion, and its Rare Disease portfolio, which increased 13%. Core EPS rose 21% to $2.63, beating expectations, while management reaffirmed its full-year 2026 outlook for mid-to-high single-digit revenue growth and low double-digit Core EPS growth.
Amgen Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN) reported Q2 revenue of $10.1 billion, up 10% year over year, while non-GAAP EPS increased 4% to $6.29. Although its key growth products advanced 26%, mature products faced significant biosimilar pressure, with Prolia revenue declining 32% and XGEVA falling 34%. Amgen nevertheless raised its 2026 revenue guidance midpoint to $39.4 billion.
Overall, AZN holds the financial edge due to stronger EPS growth, broader portfolio momentum, and less exposure to the biosimilar erosion affecting AMGN's mature products.
Amgen's bull case is supported by robust growth in key products, which increased 26%, and $3.5 billion in Q2 free cash flow, providing substantial capital flexibility. Wells Fargo raised its Amgen price target to $435 from $400 on September 4, citing potential upside from HORIZON and pipeline ****** ets such as olpasiran. New Phase III VESALIUS-CV data also showed Repatha reduced the risk of death by 20% in high-risk adults without a prior heart attack or stroke, with heart attack risk reductions emerging as early as six months. However, accelerating biosimilar competition affecting legacy franchises such as Prolia and XGEVA remains a key risk to sustained margin expansion.

Futures are trading lower after a rough start to the holiday-shortened trading week. All the major indices finished the day sharply lower on rising oil prices and two huge inflation readings on deck: the producer price index on Thursday and the consumer price index on Friday. If both come in above expectations, you can count on an interest rate hike next week when the Federal Reserve governors meet. The venerable Dow Jones Industrial Average took the biggest shot, closing down 1.18% at 52,786, while the S&P 500 finished the session at 7,673, down 0.58%. The Russell 2000 fell 0.52% to 2,960, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq finished the day at 26,421, down 0.32%. With market-moving data on the way and sentiment falling, this could be a tough week for investors as we could catch some September blues.

Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK) signed a nonbinding letter of intent under which SOCAR would pay $1.65 billion in cash, subject to customary adjustments. SOCAR would acquire non-operated working interests representing 20% of the Legacy Haynesville and 15% of the Western Haynesville upstream interests held by Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK). SOCAR would also acquire 15% of the 73% ownership interest held by Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK) in Pinnacle Gas Services.
The letter of intent requires good-faith negotiations but does not obligate completion. The parties are targeting a definitive agreement by October 31, 2026, and closing by year-end, subject to negotiations, approvals, and customary conditions.
Separately, a Jerry Jones family partnership will fund 85% of the drilling and completion costs for 18 Western Haynesville wells and 80% for nine Legacy Haynesville wells. The total 27-well program is expected to cost approximately $450 million over 12 months. After a 15% return on investment, 50% of the interest covered by the venture will revert to Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK).
If the SOCAR transaction closes, Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK) estimates that the proceeds would reduce company-defined non-GAAP net debt from $3.1 billion to $1.5 billion as of June 30, 2026. Net debt is calculated as total debt less cash and cash equivalents. The approximately $1.6 billion reduction would nearly halve the measure and could improve financial flexibility.
The drilling venture allows development to continue without equivalent near-term cash funding. Following completion of the SOCAR transaction, Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK) would retain operatorship of the upstream ****** ets and control of Pinnacle Gas Services. Drilling should provide volumes to Pinnacle and help delineate the 545,000 net acres in the Western Haynesville.

GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL) completed its acquisition of SECURE Waste Infrastructure, adding a specialized waste and energy-infrastructure platform across Western Canada and North Dakota. At the announcement, the transaction had a C$6.4 billion enterprise value, with shareholder consideration comprising 80% GFL shares and 20% cash.
Closing required the issuance of 75,126,306 subordinate voting shares, capacity under the revolving credit facility, and a new US$1 billion senior secured term loan. The loan matures in August 2033 and carries interest at the Secured Overnight Financing Rate plus 200 basis points. GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL) estimates an interest rate of approximately 5% after its cross-currency interest-rate swaps.
SECURE brings a difficult-to-replicate network spanning more than 80 locations, including landfills, waste-treatment and recycling facilities, injection wells and transfer stations. It also operates crude oil terminals, storage facilities and pipeline-connected infrastructure. The ****** ets broaden services and operating density in Western Canada.
More than 2,000 SECURE employees are joining the combined company. SECURE President and Chief Executive Officer Allen Gransch and other managers will continue leading the acquired operations as employees and shareholders. Retaining the operating team should help preserve customer relationships and institutional knowledge during integration.
The acquisition cost is spread across debt and equity. The 2033 maturity provides time for cash generation, while management said the term-loan transaction did not affect the company's credit rating.

The final act in the ring was to sweep past Flora Pili to cement her legacy in Ireland and beyond, bowing out as a three-time and two-weight undisputed champion.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Jonathan Aranda hit a three-run home run in the 10th inning to give the Tampa Bay Rays a 6-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday night.
Tampa Bay (85-57) has won two straight after losing the opener of the four-game series and has the best record in the American League at 85-57.
The Rangers (70-73) went into the game facing their largest deficit in the AL West race at three games. Texas trails Cleveland by two games in the race for the league's final wild card.
Taylor Walls opened the 10th with a sacrifice bunt that advanced automatic runner Jorge Mateo to third base. Rangers closer Jacon Latz (3-2) then intentionally walked Yandy Díaz before Aranda homered into the home bullpen beyond right field.
Tampa Bay's Tyler Wells (4-2) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the victory.

Interested in Diversified Energy Company PLC? Here are five stocks we like better.
Diversified Energy agreed to acquire Birch Resources for approximately $1.8 billion, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. The deal would add 480 net wells, roughly 68,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and 1.2 trillion cubic feet equivalent of reserves.
The acquisition would significantly expand Diversified's Permian presence, lifting production from about 9,000 to 77,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and increasing projected Permian adjusted EBITDA from $64 million to $612 million. The ****** ets are about 70% liquids-weighted and include related infrastructure.
Diversified plans to finance the purchase mainly with ****** et-backed securities and expects operational synergies, while targeting nearly $2 billion of deleveraging over four years. The company said the transaction should increase total production by 35%, adjusted EBITDA by 55% and more than double free cash flow.

On August 6, Dentsply Sirona (NASDAQ:XRAY) reported second-quarter 2026 results that pulled the stock in two directions at once. Net sales fell 4.1% year over year to $898 million, yet the company swung from a $45 million net loss a year earlier to $37 million in net income, with diluted earnings per share of $0.18 versus a $0.22 loss. Investors are left weighing a real profitability turnaround against a top line that is still shrinking.
GAAP gross margin climbed to 54.9% from 52.4% a year ago, and adjusted gross margin came in at 56.4%. Adjusted EBITDA margin ticked up slightly to 21.3% from 21.1%. Cash generation improved even more sharply. Operating cash flow jumped to $99 million from $48 million in the second quarter of 2025, helped by roughly $44 million in tariff refunds along with tighter management of inventory and payables. Free cash flow more than tripled to $55 million from $16 million. The company used some of that cash to repurchase 1.3 million shares for about $12 million during the quarter, and it also expanded its partnership with Medline Sinclair to broaden access to its Connected Technology Solutions portfolio across Canada.
Wellspect Healthcare was the lone segment posting real growth, with net sales up 7.1% to $86 million, and EMEA sales as reported were essentially flat at 0.2% growth. There were no goodwill or intangible ***** et impairments this quarter, a contrast to the $235 million charge taken in the same period last year. Despite the sales decline, the company reiterated its full-year 2026 outlook of $3.5 billion to $3.6 billion in net sales and adjusted EPS of $1.40 to $1.50.
The headline sales decline understates the underlying softness. On a constant currency basis, net sales fell 6.3%, meaning currency translation actually flattered the reported number. Orthodontic and Implant Solutions was the weakest segment, with sales dropping 13.2% to $197 million from $226 million a year ago. The Americas region fared worst geographically, with net sales down 10.7% as reported and 11.6% in constant currency.
Even the adjusted numbers show cracks: adjusted EPS of $0.52 was actually down 1.6% from a year earlier, despite the improved GAAP figures. The balance sheet tightened too, with cash and equivalents falling to $239 million from $326 million at the end of 2025, against long-term debt of nearly $2 billion. Restructuring and other costs for the first six months of 2026 totaled $69 million, up sharply from $13 million in the same period a year ago, tied in part to costs from a new global ERP system.

Coming into the season, Austin Wells had a .224 career batting average and a .717 OPS. He had never been an elite producer at the plate, but posted 20 homers last season and was good enough for the Yankees to stick with him.
However, he was having an awful season through June. In his first 56 games, he had a .155/.255/.238 slash line and just four home runs. The Yankees reportedly tried trading for a catcher, but were unable to land one. Wells has lost at-bats and starts to Ali Sánchez lately, but he has turned his awful season around.
Since July 1, Wells is slashing .238/.314/.426. He has a .740 OPS and six home runs. He is never going to be a guy who hits for a high average, but his .740 OPS is a big boost for the Yankees. He is producing for an offense that is without Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, and his contributions are not going unnoticed. On Wednesday night, he gave the Yankees the lead in extra innings with a two-out, two-RBI single.
"You feel like he's that threat again down there. That's massive," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, per The Athletic's Chris Kirschner.

For years, the world's largest banks watched stablecoins from the sidelines, treating them as a threat to deposits and traditional payment rails. That era appears to be over.
A consortium of 21 financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, UBS, Wells Fargo, Barclays and Santander, is planning to form a company that would issue a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar, with a launch targeted for the first half of 2027, according to Reuters.
A stablecoin is a digital token designed to hold a steady value, typically backed one-to-one by a traditional currency like the U.S. dollar, and used for payments, trading and moving money across borders.

Morgan Stanley (MS) leads all money-center peers up 19% in 2026, but must clear its $231 52-week high before $250 becomes realistic.
MS beat Goldman Sachs (+14%) and JPMorgan (+10%), while Wells Fargo is the only big bank down 7% this year.
Record Q2 revenue of $21 billion, equity trading up 69%, and a reauthorized $20 billion buyback underpin the bull case for MS.

A global bond selloff pushed the 10-year Treasury yield to 4.79% this afternoon, above its prior 52-week high of 4.75% set on July 31. Rising long rates typically help banks, yet the money-center group is soft, and so is the sector fund.

Aryna Sabalenka took the next step on the road to a rare US Open three-peat, routing qualifier Polina Iatcenko 6-1, 6-1 to join a raft of contenders cruising into the third round on Wednesday.
Men's defending champion Carlos Alcaraz was seeking to join them when he took on Portugal's Jaime Faria in the nightcap on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Alcaraz won his seventh major ***** le at the Australian Open in January but arrived in New York an unknown quantity after a wrist injury forced a four-month layoff that saw him miss Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
He dispelled doubts with a straight-sets first-round victory over Roman Safiullin and will look for further improvement against 72nd-ranked Faria.
World number one Sabalenka, without a ***** le since her impressive Indian Wells-Miami double in March was in attack mode as she overpowered 160th-ranked Russian qualifier Iatcenko in just 53 minutes.

Kai Trump said goodbye to her friends, her family and her Florida hometown this month, documenting her move to the University of Miami in a YouTube vlog that followed her from a last round of golf in Jupiter to her first night alone in a new apartment.
"What's up guys? This is my first day of college," Trump said in the video. "I feel like really sad that I have to say goodbye to like everyone."
Trump, who is joining the Miami women's golf team, filmed herself packing, **** embling furniture, unboxing team gear and, at several points, fighting back tears.
She spent her final day in Jupiter on the golf course before turning to farewells.
"I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time on the golf course because I want to say goodbye to my friends," she said. "It's kind of crazy like I've been like reflecting especially last night because I've been getting no sleep for like a week now. This is the next chapter and I'm moving on. And I'm excited. I'm excited for the next chapter. I'm excited to play golf at University of Miami. And I'm just excited for the experience."
