Ohio State vs. Texas prediction, odds, pick for Week 2 blockbuster appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
In the past, an early-season game between top-ranked Ohio State and No. 4 Texas might have been classified as an elimination game. The winner would emerge as a potential favorite to end up as the national champion while the loser would somehow try to convince itself that there was still something to play for even though it went down to defeat against a superior opponent.
That's no longer the case as the College Football Playoff will give the loser of this game another chance — as long as it can rebound from the loss and show dominance in the majority of its remaining games.
Ohio State and Texas have played each other in the last two seasons and Ryan Day's Buckeyes have gotten the best of the Longhorns each time. Steve Sarkisian should have his team primed for a huge effort as Ohio State travels to Austin this time before the Longhorns' loud and hungry fans.

USL Dunkerque are reported to have reached a verbal agreement with M'Baye Niang (31) on a one-year contract with an option for a further year, according to L'Équipe.
A free agent since leaving Turkish club Gençlerbirliği SK, where he played and proved decisive on eight occasions (six goals, two ******* ists) in 27 appearances last season, the Senegalese striker is reportedly open to a return to France.
Having come through the SM Caen academy and played for Montpellier HSC, Stade Rennais, Girondins de Bordeaux and AJ Auxerre, Niang has made over 160 appearances and scored around 40 goals in Ligue 1.
A Senegal international (23 caps, four goals), the Meulan-born player also boasts significant international experience, having previously played for AC Milan, Watford and Torino, amongst others.

Carson Hocevar spun out Brad Keselowski, bringing out a caution and ending the first stage of the NASCAR Darlington race on Sept. 6.
There were still a few laps left in the stage, but when the yellow comes out so near the end, a new NASCAR rule states the stage ends.
Hocevar came close to taking out Joey Logano as well when he got into the back of Keselowski. There did not seem to be a reason for Hocevar making contact.
It was the first caution of the race.
Tyler Reddick won the stage, with Bubba Wallace second and Denny Hamlin third.

Scuderia Ferrari is not just bringing the special livery dedicated to Michael Schumacher, but its second upgraded power unit under the ADUO finding.
As per the FIA published figures, Ferrari are allowed to two Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) in 2026 after it was found to be over 4% down on power and performance when compared to the best F1 power unit on the grid, that happens to be Red Bull Ford.
They fall in the same club as Audi and Honda to be allowed for two updates, with Mercedes allowed only one. Ferrari brought its first push in Austria and has confirmed the second and final of F1 2026 in this weekend's Italian GP at Monza, where power is crucial element.
Both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have stressed on the power deficit on Ferrari side. They are happy with the work done on the chassis side, which has helped them to be second in the F1 constructors' championship. The team is taking a gamble by deploying its update so soon.
There are still plenty of races to go in F1 2026. But they seem to be confident about their step. This also clears the way for larger development focus in 2027. Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur stressed on marginal gains and this is what they expect to secure in Monza, that they can carry forward.

Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies are set to host one of the nation's top prospects on an official visit on September 5 when four-star guard Jimmie Haywood returns home.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pound product of Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona, who is ranked as the No. 128 overall prospect and No. 15 shooting guard in the 2027 class by 247Sports, began his career at Garfield High School in Seattle before moving south.
Now, as Sprinkle prioritizes local talent as he continues to rebuild the program, Haywood could emerge as a top target for the Huskies in the months leading up to signing day.
Among Sprinkle's other top targets in the 2027 class is another local product, five-star guard Jalen Davis out of Bremerton High School, and as the Huskies look to replenish the depth on their roster through the high school ranks, the pair has the potential to become building blocks for their hometown team.
During his visit, Haywood will also likely be accompanied by five-star power forward Ahmed Nur, who is slated to arrive on Sunday, September 6. Washington is also expected to host one of the top players in the 2028 class, five-star guard Jordan Mize, on Friday, September 18.

After setting their 53-man roster on Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams voted on 11 team captains for the 2026 season. Three of them are newcomers to the team, which shows what an impact they've already made in the locker room and on the practice field. Those newcomers are Myles Garrett, Trent McDuffie and Joe Cardona.
Matthew Stafford is a captain for the sixth straight year, while Davante Adams is a captain for the first time in his Rams career. Kyren Williams is back as a captain, while Tyler Higbee was also voted one by his teammates. Coleman Shelton is a first-time captain on offense, as well.
On defense, Kobe Turner, Nate Landman and Quentin Lake are repeat captains, with Garrett and McDuffie joining the mix. Cardona replaces Ethan Evans as a captain on special teams.

Rachaad White doesn't fit the typical skill set that would qualify him for a "high floor" sort of list, but if you take a step back, his role is crystal clear and only carries upside.
At this point, we've learned to not bank on White as a between the tackles runner. He's not efficient and that ship seems to have sailed. The Commanders brought him in to leverage his pass catching prowess (89.1% career catch rate, 7.1 yards per catch) in an offense that has creative dreams and a limited RB1.
Jacory Corksey-Merritt's advanced profile is basically the bizzaro version of White: he was second best in 5+ yard carry rate but continued to be a non-factor in the pass game.
START PREPARING: PFN's FREE Fantasy Draft Simulator
In White, we get a specialist who COULD be asked to expand his touch type. I don't think Washington wants to ask him to carry the mail on any sort of consistent basis, though there is a path where it could happen based on need.

Rangers have confirmed they will provide Celtic with 300 tickets for the League Cup quarter-final at Ibrox on 13 September.
The most recent meeting of the sides at Ibrox came in the Scottish Cup on 8 March and was marred by fan disorder. Earlier on Friday, the Scottish FA announced both clubs would have to play their next home Scottish Cup games behind closed doors.
About 8,000 Celtic supporters had attended the 8 March match while recent league encounters of the Glasgow clubs had away support in the low thousands.
And Rangers said: "Since the clubs last considered away allocations, the Blackbourne Report has been published and our sanction issued.
"Together with the events of 8 March and our ******* sment of the current risk, these developments have informed our planning for this fixture [on 13 September]. Matchday safety remains our top priority.

Kyle Lowry gets the Raptors honor only Vince Carter has received originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Kyle Lowry helped deliver the greatest moment in Toronto Raptors history. Now, his place in the franchise's history will become permanent.
The Raptors announced Thursday that Lowry's No. 7 jersey will be retired following Toronto's Jan. 10 game against the Philadelphia 76ers at Scotiabank Arena. Lowry will become only the second player in franchise history to receive the honor, joining Vince Carter, whose No. 15 was raised to the rafters in November 2024.
The opponent adds another layer of significance to the celebration. Lowry is a Philadelphia native and spent the final two-plus seasons of his NBA career with the 76ers.
Lowry officially closed his 20-year career earlier this summer. The 40-year-old signed a ceremonial one-day contract with Toronto on July 7, allowing him to retire with the organization where he spent the most successful years of his career.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has called for a severe punishment following Brydon Carse's latest involvement in a nightclub incident, saying the ECB must take action strong enough to deter the entire England cricket setup from similar behaviour.

Carse became the latest England player to attract scrutiny after a video emerged showing the fast bowler handcuffed by police outside a nightclub. He was briefly arrested while out with Durham team-mates Ben Stokes and Matthew Potts, leading the England and Wales Cricket Board to investigate the incident.

Carse had been part of England's squad for two of the three Tests against Pakistan but was released to play for Durham after being left out of the XI for the first Test at Leeds. He contributed 26 runs and returned figures of 2-82 as Durham beat Derbyshire inside three days.

The 30-year-old then went out with his Durham team-mates to celebrate the victory, during which the incident occurred.

The ECB subsequently confirmed that Carse "will no longer be available for selection" for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord's on Thursday. Hampshire right-arm seamer Sonny Baker has been called up as his replacement.

Vaughan believes the latest episode requires a response that sends a clear message across English cricket.

"Someone is going to have to get a punishment that sends a shiver down the whole England cricket team and right down through the programme, so that everyone knows that if you misbehave or bring any kind of bad reputation on to this team, you know what's going to come," former England captain Vaughan said on BBC Radio. "It's the only punishment that will really hurt players."

Carse's case comes amid a series of off-field incidents involving England players over the past year. Last October, white-ball captain Harry Brook was punched by a bouncer outside a nightclub in Wellington, New Zealand, while Jacob Bethell and Josh Tongue were also present.

During the Ashes tour of Australia, Ben Duckett was filmed apparently drunk during England's holiday in Noosa.

Then, in June, former Test captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson broke a team curfew and were present when a member of England's security staff was punched by Saracens rugby player in a London nightclub.

Vaughan acknowledged that Carse could feel hard done by if he is punished heavily in light of the wider pattern of incidents.

"I hope Carse is getting good support around him. He is a character who can be a little bit loose and if you give him a bit of rope he'll take a huge amount of it. He needs people around him who are giving him better advice.

"I would feel for Carse if he is the one who takes the rap for what has happened over the past nine months, but somewhere, somehow, something has to be done to set a precedent that they won't stand for that behaviour any more," said Vaughan.

Saints quietly make late-night trade with 49ers for ex-Raiders fourth-round RB originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New Orleans Saints made some huge upgrades to the roster this offseason, one of those being the big free-agent signing of Travis Etienne Jr.
He's now the starter, and Alvin Kamara is the RB2, with Keandre Miller the third-string RB. But after adding Etienne, this room got a bit crowded. And yet, the Saints reportedly added another back late on Sunday night.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Saints traded linebacker Deion Jones to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for Zamir White. This is an interesting addition for the Saints, as it might reveal where a few of their injured tailbacks stand.
"Trade: the Saints are sending veteran LB Deion Jones to San Francisco in exchange for RB Zamir White, per sources," Schefter reports.

Multiple outlets in Italy are reporting that Juventus and Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas are in direct negotiations over a potential deal for midfielder Fabio Miretti and that the two sides are currently discussing the 'formula' of the transfer.
Juventus have already added Randal Kolo Muani, Kerim Alajbegovic, Guglielmo Vicario, Jhon Lucumi, Jeff Ekhator and Zeki Celik to their ranks this summer but are still hoping to add a few more signings to the list before the close of the transfer window.
"In general we've had a good transfer market, some areas need a few cosmetic changes, others entire restoration projects," said head coach Luciano Spalletti during a press conference on Saturday.
In order for those new signings to come in, other players must first be sold, and according to the latest updates, Miretti could be one of those players that ends up on the chopping block.
According to reports from various sources on Sunday including Sky Sport Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio, Juventus are in direct discussions with Besiktas to discuss the sale of Miretti.

No. 18 Tennessee held its second scrimmage during fall training camp on Saturday at Neyland Stadium. Rankings reflect the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll.
Sixth-year head coach Josh Heupel recapped the Vols' second scrimmage.
"Good second scrimmage," Heupel said. "Bunch of situational work. Crowd noise like you're on the road. A lot of mechanics, communication, things that did well and some things that, offensively in particularly, learned throughout the course of it. Got to continue to get better at that, but all in all, good work.
"I thought defensively did a good job. Created a couple turnovers. Played ****** ignment sound and, offensively you know, didn't play as clean as we need to. Some of that was communication, but some really positive things there too."
Tennessee will kick off its 2026 football season in 14 days. The Vols will host Furman on Sept. 5 at Neyland Stadium (3:30 p.m. EDT, SEC Network+).

Hull City returns to the Premier League on Saturday after a nine-year spell in the lower leagues, and their reward is an opening day clash with giants Manchester United.
Hull got back into the promised land of the Premier League after qualifying for last season's Championship play-offs on the final day of the regular season, followed by wins over Millwall in the semi-finals and Middlesbrough in the final. They've been busy in the transfer market, bringing in 14 new players to help them with the rigours of elite football. The Tigers started last season as Championship relegation favourites and conceded 66 league goals, the fourth-highest, along the way. To say it was a surprise that they reached the playoff final, and then won it, would be an understatement.
Much will depend on playoff final hereo Oli McBurnie, the scorer of 19 goals last season.
In the second half of the 2025-26 season, United were one of the best sides in Europe under caretaker boss Michael Carrick. The former United midfielder transformed their fortunes after a dismal first half of the campaign under Ruben Amorim. The 44-year-old inherited a squad that sat 10th in the table and turned it into a side capable of beating ******* nal, Liverpool and Man City in the ******* e of four months. That run of 12 wins, three draws and two defeats from 17 Premier League matches earned him a permanent two-year deal.
A net spend of £55m in the summer has seen midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans join from Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively. United will be playing Champions League football for the first time in three years and that will undoubtedly place extra pressure on their playing personnel.

Tarik Skubal is coming back to Comerica Park next weekend, and he apparently won't be spending the entire series sitting in the visiting dugout.
The former Detroit Tigers ace is expected to pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers during their three-game series against Detroit from Aug. 28-30, according to a Thursday report from The Detroit News. Skubal is set to take the mound on Aug. 29 at 1:10 p.m. ET.
That takes what was already going to be an unusual homecoming and turns it into something considerably more interesting.
Skubal was traded to Los Angeles earlier this month in the blockbuster that sent outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-handers River Ryan and Brady Smith to Detroit. MLB confirmed the three-player return when the deal became official on Aug. 2.
Now Tigers hitters are going to have to deal with a problem they spent years watching other teams try to solve.

The Bloomfield Bobcats are going to have a prominent new face among the chase pack.
The two-time defending Class 4A state football champions open 2026 strongly poised to earn a three-peat. St. Pius, the team Bloomfield beat in the last two finals, remains a prominent challenger as the Sartans go after their first **** le in 10 years.
And other faces are hunting on the Bobcat trail. Taos and Bernalillo, for example. Perhaps also the Belen Eagles, a Class 5A quarterfinal team a year ago.
But the one most noticeable addition to the 4A division is the Lovington Wildcats, a team that could very well end Bloomfield's run.
"I think 4A is the most competitive classification," Portales coach Jaime Ramirez said.

The Boston Red Sox were one of the hottest teams in baseball over the last month and a half, but have cooled down as of late.
They are 3-7 in their last 10 and have seen some of their pitchers struggle. On Sunday, Patrick Sandoval allowed seven earned runs in four innings of work. He had been pitching well recently, so Sunday's blow up start was a shock. He received a visit from the trainer on Sunday as well, in the fourth inning.
"Patrick Sandoval said he's been pitching through a blister on his left foot basically all season (thus the trainer visit in the fourth inning)," The Boston Globe's Alex Speier reported on Sunday. "He says it's just a matter of pain tolerance."
Any sort of minor injury can impact any player's performance, but especially pitchers. A blister in his left foot would certainly be something that is difficult to manage, but he has been doing it all year. Given Jake Bennett's recent struggles, the Red Sox will need their other arms to step up. They know what they are going to get out of the top-end guys like Ranger Suarez, Payton Tolle and Sonny Gray.

Sebastiaan Bornauw has agreed to return to the Bundesliga by agreeing to join Hamburg on loan, according to Sky Germany. An agreement has been reached between Leeds United and HSV for the move with an option to buy reportedly worth €4-5m, with a medical scheduled for Monday.
The 27-year-old center back spent the 2025/26 season in the Premier League where he made 12 appearances for Leeds. Before that he had a four-year stint at Wolfsburg where he showed his best qualities and managed to attract plenty of attention. This move sees him get back to a familiar environment in the Bundesliga where he has also played for Cologne.
The Belgian defender has represented his country at all youth levels, while making four appearances for the senior side with his last call up coming back in 2023.

In his media day press conference on Friday, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz revealed that a pair of Hawkeyes have suffered significant injuries.
Third-year defensive back Kyler Gerardy and SMU transfer receiver Lance Beeghley are both expected to miss significant time and maybe the entire 2026 season altogether.
"Injury-wise, overall, not too bad. We have two guys right now that may miss a big part of the season if not the entire season. Kyler Gerardy unfortunately was injured Wednesday and Lance Beeghley, a receiver, was hurt about a week ago. Those two guys, we'll see how that goes. Will know more as we move forward. Otherwise, we have some camp issues like every year. Nothing really noteworthy and to comment on," Ferentz said.
Iowa also announced on Friday that transfer safety Tyler Brown is dealing with a muscle strain.
Gerardy saw action in four games last season, logging 29 defensive snaps and five special teams snaps, per Pro Football Focus. The 6-foot, 199-pound defensive back recorded his first career solo tackle during Iowa's 37-0 shutout at Wisconsin last season.

Mark Pope and the Kentucky basketball team have an open roster spot on the team that they weren't sure they would fill this offseason. Then, multiple judges made rulings that potentially allowed a group of class of 2022 players to gain an extra year of eligibility, making it much more likely to fill that last spot.
Kentucky is said to have their eyes on multiple players involved in the rulings. The most attractive option, though, might be former Missouri star Mark Mitchell.
Mitchell averaged 18 points and 5 rebounds per game last year for Missouri, and made 38% of his three-point attempts. His name wasn't called at the NBA draft, however, and he signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Denver Nuggets.
As judges sided with players in multiple injunctions around the country, Mitchell, along with several other athletes, also brought his case to court, looking for an added year of play. His case was to heard on Friday in Louisville.
The players, as well as Pope and his staff, were hoping to get a favorable ruling that would not only give them another season, but also allow them to transfer to the school of their choice. The bad news is that no ruling was given on Friday. The good news is that Judge Brian Edwards only pushed a ruling back until next week.
