Ricky Gervais has joined a wave of friends, former co-stars and fans reaching out to offer public support to Lucy Davis after the actress shared her terminal cancer diagnosis.
The 53-year-old star, who captured hearts as receptionist Dawn Tinsley in the original BBC hit The Office, revealed on Instagram that she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer 18 months ago.
Explaining that the disease has spread to her spine, right hip, and ribs, Lucy stated that the cancer is incurable and it is now too late for chemotherapy.

After a low-impact walk-through practice at Stevenson High School yesterday, the Chicago Bears were back at Halas Hall for what head coach Ben Johnson called a "big time practice" today. The plan was to simulate the pregame for all the new guys and have plenty of live scrimmage situations, starting with some short-yardage and goal-line packages.
According to CHGO's Adam Jahns, "The first offense had its way in those periods, especially running to the right side behind 58 and 73."
The Bears were among the league's best last year, running right towards guard Jonah Jackson (73) and tackle Darnell Wright (58), and I expect that to continue in 2026.
Jahns also shouted out D'Andre Swift in the short-yardage situations, and he shared that rookie defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg was with the first string during their goal-line/short-yardage packages.

We're almost there -- the New Orleans Saints released their first unofficial depth chart ahead of Saturday's preseason game with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and for the most part, it's what you expect. The starting offensive line looks like what we've seen at training camp. It's the same pecking order at running back with Kendre Miller at RB3, even while he's missed several days of practice reps with an injury. Backups like Audric Estime and Devin Neal need to do more with their own reps to unseat him (and in Neal's case, also get healthy). But there are some points of note and takeaways from this first depth chart. It's important to remember this is an unofficial document made for media purposes, not a set-in-stone reflection of how the team is operating at practice every day. Coaches are going to stack some of these positions differently.
And here is what we learned:
There isn't much of a buffer between Simpkins (an undrafted free agent last year) and Wright (a rookie fourth-round pick) and the opportunity to play under the bright lights. Both backups are listed on the second-string offense behind Erik McCoy and Cesar Ruiz, respectively. And that's before Dillon Radunz goes on injured reserve. The Saints listed Radunz as the backup left guard but he's been practicing ahead of Wright until his recent knee injury. We may see William Sherman get the nod in a pinch, but look for Wright to log a ton of snaps this preseason.
This may not be too surprising if you've been keeping up with the daily highlight reels from practice, but being drafted in Round 6 doesn't mean you're a slam dunk to make the team. Brown followed that up by making some big catches in team drills, routinely getting open in one-on-one sessions, and standing out during special teams periods. He's listed as the immediate backup behind Chris Olave on the second-team offense as well the primary returner on both punts and kickoffs. He's still behind Jordyn Tyson and Devaughn Vele, sure. Brown is on the fast track to not just make the 53-man roster but to see meaningful snaps on Sundays.
The workload for respected veterans like Cameron Jordan and Alvin Kamara has been obvious. Jordan practiced with the second-string defense behind Chase Young and Carl Granderson (before his hamstring injury flared up) while Kamara mainly worked in passing situations and third downs with Travis Etienne Jr. seeing early-down work. Both of them have taken a backseat to new arrivals and younger teammates. But that isn't reflected on this unofficial depth chart. Jordan is listed as a starter with Young "or" Granderson starting at the other edge rusher spot. Kamara has the same "or" designation with Etienne. Sometimes, when we get an unrelated cameo on Hard Knocks, it's a juicy little tidbit that is sure to spark some unintended conversation. That's exactly what might happen with a clip from the latest episode featuring San Antonio Spurs general manager Brian Wright and head coach Mitch Johnson chatting with Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald.
The discussion concerns Wright and Johnson expanding on the Spurs' initial process in trying to get young phenom Victor Wembanyama onto their team. Wright and Johnson claimed that the Spurs knew Wembanyama would be special when they saw him at age 16. From there, they put a "plan in motion" to "turn the team over" about a year later in an effort to put themselves in as good a position as possible to draft Wembanyama.
Hmm, turn the team over? You mean ... make the Spurs worse for draft lottery odds? The Spurs notably had a paltry 22-60 record in the season they earned the No. 1 overall pick that allowed them to draft Wembanyama. If I didn't know any better, that sure sounds like ... what amounts to tanking! I don't think the NBA would retroactively punish the Spurs for this, even in light of a reformed anti-tanking draft lottery plan.
However, I still can't imagine this is something San Antonio wanted out in the open because of the potential bad optics:
Whatever the truth is here, I'm sure that franchises like the Spurs are so grateful that draft lottery reform came after they were able to position themselves for a new MVP-caliber superstar like Wembanyama.

The New Orleans Saints might not have planned to rely heavily on Jeremiah Wright immediately. However, as training camp has progressed, injuries appear to be accelerating the rookie right guard's development. The Saints lost veteran lineman Dillon Radunz for the season after he suffered a torn ACL in practice. The injury removed an experienced and versatile reserve from the equation, creating an opportunity for Wright to earn meaningful snaps earlier than initially anticipated. The Saints selected the 6-foot-5, 331-pound Wright with pick No. 132 overall in April's draft. After missing a couple of practices himself, the former Auburn Tigers starter returned to the field on Tuesday and immediately caught head coach Kellen Moore's attention.
"Good player, physical player," Moore Moore told local reporters after practice on Tuesday. "I thought today, getting back in there, he showed the same physicality that he showed early in camp."
Moore expects Wright to receive extensive work during the Saints' upcoming joint practices and preseason games. Just like the big-league club, the Knights (62-52) overpowered the Bulls (52-61) to claim the series. José Urquidy made his third start for Charlotte since he was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates, allowing one run in his two frames on three hits while striking out three in the process. A pair of doubles in the second drove in the first run for the Bulls, but the Good Guys answered back in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at one on a solo shot from Korey Lee, his first of two batted in on the day. Adding three more the next inning, Rikuu Nishida and Mario Camilletti started the inning with back-to-back walks before being brought in by Ryan Galanie. Junior Perez also mashed a solo shot in the seventh to add an insurance run, making up for his rough day yesterday.
Daniel Wright and Tyler Schweitzer were next out of the bullpen, each allowing on run on two hits while striking out two, earning a hold and keeping the Knights in the game with the lead. Lately, however, a different trend has emerged. Per various sources, including ESPN's Tim McManus, "Jalen Hurts' connection with tight end Dallas Goedert is heating up. The Eagles have made a concerted effort to get the ball into Goedert's hands, involve him in the passing game, and make him a larger part of the offensive rhythm. Whether it's short completions underneath, chain-moving routes over the middle, or red-zone opportunities, Goedert's involvement has steadily increased as camp has progressed.
The Eagles have several intriguing options at tight end, but none match Goedert's combination of experience, production, and quarterback trust. Teams from Scotland, Germany and Scandinavia are among those involved in the Northern European Dodgeball Championships which are being staged at the city's Sports Village.
One of those taking part in the fast and furious action is Aberdeen-based Jodie Wright, who joined the Scotland squad this year and said making her international debut was something she was really proud of.
"I've only been playing dodgeball for a couple of years, so getting the chance to represent my country at a home tournament is pretty special," she said.

One of the Seattle Seahawks fan-favorite players may be on the shelf, as fullback Robbie Ouzts wasn't at practice once again.
Possibly more concerning is the verbiage used by head coach Mike Macdonald when he talked about trying to gain more information on Ouzts' "situation."
Making this potentially worse is the fact that Ouzts missed the last two games of 2025 season with a neck injury. There's nothing concretely linking these two things together, but considering the fact that Ouzts was practicing fully and then suddenly missing combined with the fact that his position requires him to repeatedly slam into opposing defenders to open holes for the running game…consider me concerned. Hopefully this will blow over and Ouzts will be back out there pancaking defenders.
In other injury news, running back Jacardia Wright also suffered a leg injury, but there was no update on him from Macdonald.
Wright is another player who was injured and missed most of last season. He's also part of the backfield room with a recovering Zach Charbonnet and no more Kenny McIntosh. There will likely need to be additions here to spread out the preseason carries.

There will be no Jadeveon Clowney reunion for the Cleveland Browns.
The former first overall pick and defensive end during the 2021 and 2022 seasons has opted to head back to Houston instead of signing in Cleveland. Clowney has inked a deal with the Texans to end his free agency.
Clowney went on to say that the decision to sign with Houston over Cleveland was an easy one, and not a decision that came down to a dollar figure. Here is what Clowney had to say on returning to the team that once selected him with the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft:
"I've grown up and learned the game a lot more since leaving... I feel like I can help the younger guys. I've learned how to lead and what it takes to get to a Super Bowl. I feel like I can help this team."
Instead of reuniting with Cleveland, the rich get richer in Houston, leaving the Browns still fairly thin behind their two starters. While Jared Verse, a two-time Pro Bowler, and Alex Wright, who just signed a contract extension a year ago, are a solid duo upfront, the depth behind them is lacking.

Texas A&M's 2026 season is just a month away, as the Aggies will open the new campaign against Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 5, which also means the 2028 recruiting class will begin to take shape, including a long list of priority prospects visiting the Aggies during one of seven games in Kyle Field.
Under coach Mike Elko, who is entering his third season at the helm, the Aggies are close to locking up the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, even after missing out on landing five-star running back Landen Williams-Callis, who committed to Texas on Saturday night. So far, A&M's lone 2028 commit is four-star Edge Chance Archangel, while the Aggies are heavily predicted to land blue-chip five-star quarterback Donald Tabron III.
Other names to watch include four-star running back and Aggie legacy Ian Thomas, while fellow A&M legacy and four-star wide receiver Dillon Mitchell has also been predicted to land with the Aggies. Aug. 2—Brad Chandler has earned a few headlines in recent weeks as the new athletic director at Wright State.
Twenty-two years ago, the Livingston County Daily Press and Argus in Howell, Michigan, gave him attention for a different reason.
"Howell's scouting report had every indication that Novi's Brad Chandler was a good player," sports writer Andy Karl wrote in February 2004, "but the Highlanders didn't know about his shooting ability until Friday night.
"'He is one of the better guards in the league, and he was always in our scouting reports that he could drive well," Howell senior Eddie Chodkowski said. "He never showed that he can shoot in the games that we watched.' "
"Chandler sunk five 3-pointers en route to a 21-point effort, as Novi edged Howell in the closing seconds, 42-39."
