Despite several players departing for the NFL, the Buckeyes were picked to win the Big Ten in the USA TODAY Network's preseason football poll with 11 out of 16 possible first-place votes. In the same poll, they had four selections to the All-Big Ten team. Five other Buckeyes were named honorable mention selections.
Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was voted the Big Ten football preseason Offensive Player of the Year by the voters.
The Buckeyes will have plenty of returning starters and familiar names on offense, led by Smith and quarterback Julian Sayin. With many defensive standouts departing for the NFL, such as linebackers Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles and safety Caleb Downs, there will be opportunities for new leaders to emerge in Matt Patricia's unit.
