Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard is expected to be out for a few weeks after suffering a knee injury.
The 35-year-old is a phenomenal basketball player, but injuries have regularly affected him over the course of his career.
That has led to some criticism recently, but Charles Barkley has noticed a trend with Leonard that actually deserves some praise.

During their annual Halloween game, the Carolina Hurricanes didn't just come out with a win against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but one franchise record was broken – and another NHL record was tied as they took the game with a 3-2 score.
With just over four minutes left in the first period, Jordan Martinook scored the first goal of the game – which would prove to be the only goal of the frame. Charles Barkley says some of the best money advice he ever got came from Michael Jordan on a golf course.
The Hall of Famer recalled the moment Jordan pulled him aside while playing golf in the early 1990s. On The Dan Patrick Show in June 2025, Barkley said he was making about $3 million a year from his Nike endorsement deal at the time.
"We were playing golf and he says, 'Chuck, I was talking to somebody, I want you to quit taking $3 million. Take $1 million and take the other $2 million in stock options,'" Barkley said.

Week 6 wasn't a week of huge unknown shifts, but of incremental gains on the field. Thus, we don't have a lot of clear steps forward, but players who could get there in the near future. We also have a lot of mess for Stock Down. We'll fetch Marie Kondo.
We don't know when Saquon Barkley will return from his hamstring injury. It could very well be Week 7 with an extra recovery day. But what we do know is that Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby are on injured reserve, and Pierce just played a game in which he took 61-of-64 offensive snaps. Even if Barkley comes back at full strength, there's room for Pierce to be on fantasy rosters as the stash bench back.

The early-game jitters we expected a week ago showed up on the road against Temple. Two early miscues, a missed field goal and a dropped touchdown pass by Chase Sowell, had Penn State wasted two red zone drives to start the game, leading to a closer-than-anticipated 10-3 first half.
They did settle down in the second half…

A 24-year-old man accused of taking part in a series of high-end home break-ins in the Philadelphia suburbs appeared in a Montgomery County courtroom Thursday.
Jabir Hanif Parker is accused of burglarizing homes from June through August, focusing on master bedrooms and closets in search of expensive jewelry, watches and other valuables.
Investigators say the cases involve three residential burglaries and an attempted burglary at the home of Eagles star Saquon Barkley in Malvern.
Two homeowners were home during the incidents, including Barkley and his family, while two were not.
Authorities say the crimes were sophisticated and appeared to involve planning.

Officials say he is now connected to at least four burglaries.
Jabir Parker, 24, was scheduled to appear before a judge on Thursday but that hearing got postponed.
However, investigators now say Parker, along with two or three other unnamed suspects, stole cash, $80,000 in jewelry, and about $10,000 worth of handbags from a house in Haverford Township, Delaware County, on August 20.

An arrest has been made in connection with the attempted burglary at the home of Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley.
The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that 24-year-old Jabir Parker of Philadelphia has been arrested in connection with the crime.
Parker faces multiple felony charges, including burglary, conspiracy to burglarize, criminal trespass (breaking into a structure) and other related offenses.
Authorities allege Parker broke into Barkley's home in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, during the early morning hours of July 18.
According to investigators, Barkley and his family were inside the home at the time of the burglary, but no one was injured.

Now that the Philadelphia Eagles' preseason schedule is over, the team's focus shifts to cutting their roster down to the regular season 53-player limit before the 6:00 PM Eastern deadline on Sunday, August 30. Here's our best effort at projecting what the INITIAL roster is going to look like. The Birds will likely make some tweaks (injured reserve placements, trades, waiver claims, etc.) before they actually play the Washington Commanders in Week 1. Note that this activity is about predicting what the Eagles WILL do as opposed to what we necessarily think they should do.
QUARTERBACK: Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee, Cole Payton (3) [3]
Hurts threw a lot of interceptions this summer, yes, but I challenge you to find a daily practice observer who feels like he had a bad camp. On the whole, the good outweighed the bad. It seems like he's embracing the new offensive direction. The Eagles are hoping Hurts doesn't get, well, hurt … because the depth behind him is very uninspiring. There was no clear winner from the Eagles' training camp backup quarterback battle. McKee somehow looked worse than ever after previously showing encouraging signs in previous years. Dalton looks somewhat physically diminished, which tracks for a quarterback entering his age 39 season. Maybe he gets traded … but what price is he even fetching at this point? I wonder if the Eagles might trade both Dalton (for very meager draft pick compensation) AND McKee (included in a deal for another team's quarterback, such as Anthony Richardson or J.J. McCarthy)? Payton has shown some promise but the Eagles didn't really do a good job of getting him more action in the preseason. Utilizing him on special teams in the final preseason game points to them trying to find a role for him. This is a tough position to figure out.

Not much was going right for the Chicago Bears in their 27-9 preseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. However, one thing they were able to do well was contain the Bengals' rushing attack.
In fact, Cincinnati was held to just 64 yards on 20 attempts, an average of just 3.2 yards per attempt. Head coach Ben Johnson said the success in run defense was a combination of multiple things including the linebackers, players in the secondary being active in stopping the run and gap integrity.
"We're just trying to get out of our stance and strike blocks," Johnson said. "Our linebackers are doing a good job communicating and filling gaps, and we have our little guys that are willing tacklers. I think they're doing a good job tackling in ******* e for the most part through two games so far."
Seeing Chicago find success defending the run was promising, especially for a game where the Bears struggled so much in every other area. Last season, the Bears were one of the worst run defenses in the league, allowing an average of five yards per carry, which was the fourth-worst in the NFL.
If there is one positive takeaway from the Bears' preseason game against the Bengals, it is that Chicago has depth pieces on the defense that can help stop the run which will be important for them this season as they have to face elite running backs such as Saquon Barkley with the Philadelphia Eagles, Bijan Robinson with the Atlanta Falcons, Jahmyr Gibbs twice with the Detroit Lions and James Cook with the Buffalo Bills.

ESPN has never been hesitant to cover the never-ending circus that is the Dallas Cowboys franchise. The Worldwide Leader's proclivity to discuss the state of things in Jerry World has been covered multiple times over the years, and Charles Barkley and Inside the NBA even poked fun at it after joining the ESPN family.
It's a fact that isn't wasted inside the halls of ESPN, either.
"I don't know if you heard this about ESPN. Sometimes they say that we're a little cowboy over the top," longtime SportsCenter anchor Scott Van Pelt said to Kyle Brandt on Thursday night, who recently joined the network as part of the consolidation of ESPN and NFL Network.
"You get the memo that says you have to talk about the Cowboys," Van Pelt joked. "No one says you have to talk about the Cowboys. I root for the team that was their most hated rival in Washington, and I love to make fun of the fact that since I've worked at ESPN, which is a long-*ss time, never once have they played for an NFC Championship, let alone a ***** le. That's a fact. Yes. I think they're going to be good. I really do. I like their defense."

The Philadelphia 76ers will have a lot of expectations placed upon them in the 2026-27 season after they swung a huge deal to acquire Jaylen Brown and then landed LeBron James in free agency. That star duo will join established stars such as Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.
Embiid seems like the forgotten man at times when considering the talent around him now. Of course, that's what happens when injuries take a toll, but the big fella is still as dominant as they come when he is on the floor. The 2023 MVP winner was a huge part of the Sixers rallying from 3-1 to eliminate the Boston Celtics in Round 1 and will be a big part of any success they have in the coming season.
Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal has high expectations for the new-look Sixers, but for Embiid, specifically, he wants to see him wrestle the best big man ***** le away from Nikola Jokic:
Championship or bust. You got the great LeBron. You got great Embiid, who was, like three or four years ago, Charles (Barkley) and I would always say how he's the best big man. Joker has surpassed him. I will be honest, making a name for himself. My question to Joel: does he want it back? And if he does, please show me. I know LeBron wants to get one last one. Jaylen is feeling slighted. Maxey is making a name for himself, definitely the team to watch. I don't wanna hear next year--this team was put together to win a championship now. Barkley said after a joint practice with the Patriots that he dislikes the way hot-headed players don't control themselves in joint practices and are more interested in refusing to back down from someone in a different-colored jersey than in getting better.
"I hate joint practice, to be honest. I think one day is good, but we play in an ego-filled sport with a lot of men, and I'm all about just putting the work in," Barkley said. "I'm not really a fan of joint practice. More times than not, nothing good comes out of it. Like you have the work, it's good but then you get to pushing, the shoving and someone says this about you and it's immature when we get to that level. I've got to do a better job too because I'm a little troublemaker sometimes, but I was a good this week."
Barkley said players should be able to walk away from that stuff.
