Former Australia opener David Warner found himself in a playful social media exchange with England's famous fan group, the Barmy Army, on Friday, and the banter quickly moved from Saim Ayub's ducks to Marnus Labuschagne's century drought, England's curfew troubles and Warner's long-running Stuart Broad problem.

It all started when the Barmy Army took a dig at Warner after Pakistan batter Saim Ayub registered a pair of ducks in the final Test against England at Edgbaston. The England fan group posted a statistic pointing out that Ayub had now registered a pair twice on English soil.
Replying to the Barmy Army, Warner wrote: "Interesting stat. When was the last time I went 42 innings without a Test hundred??"
The reference was not actually about Warner. The 42 innings was a cheeky dig at former Australia teammate Marnus Labuschagne, who had gone through a lengthy drought without a Test century. Labuschagne's last Test hundred came against England at Headingley in 2023, and his drought had stretched to 42 innings.

But he wasn't finished. Then came the curfew dig.

Warner followed his 42-innings reference with another jab: "Oh do you guys still have a curfew? Asking for a mate."

That was a reference to England's recent off-field disciplinary issues involving players breaking team curfew and going out drinking. The issue had become a talking point around the England setup, with fast bowler Brydon Carse among the players caught up in the recent controversy.

The Chicago Bears have signed running back D'Andre Swift to a three-year, $33.75 million contract extension, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Swift was entering the final year of a three-year, $24 million contract he signed with Chicago back in 2023. Now, the Bears' top running back is under contract through 2029.
Swift led a top-three rushing attack alongside Bears teammate Kyle Monangai last season, averaging over 140 yards per game. It was also a resurgence for Swift, who had a career year with 1,087 rushing yards (his second ever 1,000-yard season) and nine touchdowns in his first season with head coach Ben Johnson in Chicago.

All signs appear to be pointing up for Jeremiyah Love ahead of Week 1.
The Arizona Cardinals rookie running back has participated in all three practice sessions this week, as he is now four weeks removed from suffering a high-ankle sprain on his left leg against the Las Vegas Raiders in preseason.
While Love was officially listed as limited on the first two days of practice this week, he did not appear to have any restrictions during the portions open to media. During those sessions, Love was able to cut off his injured ankle at speed, and participated in full-team jog-throughs, alternating with veteran running back Tyler Allgeier.
When asked before practice on Friday, Sept. 11, head coach Mike LaFleur did not commit to Love's status for Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
"Still got another good day of work today to figure that out," LaFleur said. "But he's trending well."

The Williams F1 team's special livery for the Spanish GP weekend has raised some eyebrows on social media, considering the colours it is running that had links with the Bin Laden family.
Williams showed its special livery for the F1 Spanish GP at Madring, going back in time to use the colours that they ran aboard the FW07, which was driven in various versions between the 1979 and 1982 F1 seasons. They modelled the colour used in the 1981 Spanish GP – the FW07C.
They raced at the Jarama circuit, with the car driven by Alan Jones and Carlos Reutemann. The colour was linked to sponsorship from Saudi Arabia's Saudia Airlines and Albilad. Having started its journey in 1977 in Formula 1, Williams got sponsorship from the Middle East first in the 1978 F1 season.
The team ran as Albilad-Saudia Racing Team in 1979, which continued through to 1981. In the 1980 and 1981 seasons, they had one car with the Albilad Williams Racing Team name, while the second car ran under a different sponsor. The Albilad sponsorship continued until 1983, even though it didn't appear in the name.
The Saudia sponsorship lasted until 1984, after which Williams got the famous Canon sponsorship. The contentious name of 'Bin Laden' that fans are vocal about on social media pertains only to the 1979 F1 season, the first time the British outfit got backing from Saudi Arabia.

Packers running back Josh Jacobs will miss the first game of the season, and likely at least five more, after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property. His head coach remains in his corner.
Asked on Friday if the development changes his opinion of Jacobs, coach Matt LaFleur said it does not.
"Well, yeah, because I know the guy, and I know the character of the guy, so I've said it many times," LaFleur told reporters. "And unfortunately, situations occur in life and it's just an unfortunate situation."
LaFleur then was asked about the rationale for keeping Jacobs on the roster, given his plea.
"Yeah, I'm not, guys — I'm not gonna get into any of this until the league completes their investigation," LaFleur said.

The chances of Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love making his NFL debut against the Chargers on Sunday are looking pretty strong.
Head coach Mike LaFleur said at a press conference that Love is "trending well" ahead of the team's final practice of the week. Love injured his ankle in the team's first preseason game and has been a limited participant in practice this week. The Cardinals will issue their last injury report after Friday's practice.
Love said on Thursday that he will "fight my hardest to be out there every game this season," but said he did not know where that would happen this weekend.
The Cardinals made Love the third overall pick in this year's draft. He'll share running back duties with Tyler Allgeier to kick off his time in the league.

It was then Hedden was destined to be a quarterback with a supportive blended family. His parents and stepparents "made sure I made every tryout. They took me to camps. They helped me meet the coaches I wanted to learn from." And they attended every game, including during his two years at Furman and this season with the Aggies. After a 10-percentage-point jump in accuracy from his freshman season, Hedden entered the portal to "raise the ceiling a little bit" in pursuit of future pro opportunities. NMSU head coach Tony Sanchez's spread attack offered protection (312 pounds an O-lineman) and speedy targets. Slot receiver TK King has been GPS-clocked at nearly 23 mph and laser-timed at 20.74 seconds over 200 meters. "The biggest thing for me is I've got to remember that on game day, he's a little bit faster than he is in practice," Hedden said of King. "When he's running a route, you can throw it out there and he'll turn it on. We talk about it in the meeting room. Go make him run 100 meters to catch the ball." King's average target depth is 21 yards. He has catch-and-dashes of 46, 42 and 34 yards. The Aggies have sets of four and five receivers or up to two tight ends. The Aggies' base is chaos, with shifts, movements and glove-to-glove combat in the trenches and running lanes. "When things get so cranky, like how many blitzes and stunts, it looks like Star Wars to us," weakside linebacker Sone Aupiu said. His first two NMSU seasons, Aupiu played middle linebacker. He moved to will linebacker last year but still trains at all second-tier positions, including jack, the stand-up edge defender. The Green Bay Packers are now preparing to move forward without knowing when Josh Jacobs might return. While MarShawn Lloyd is expected to handle the lead role in the backfield, Jacobs has entered a no contest plea to his misdemeanor charges. The NFL has also issued a disciplinary update, giving Green Bay a better idea of what could come next for its starting running back.
"With Josh Jacobs pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property, the NFL said there is "no timetable" as to when he could be disciplined. A league official said: We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review of the personal conduct policy.
There is no change to his status as he remains on the Commissioner's Exempt list," ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote on his post on X (formerly Twitter).

Jacobs has been a productive part of the Packers offense over the past two seasons, scoring 28 touchdowns during that span. He totaled 929 rushing yards in 2025 while averaging 4.0 yards per carry. The seven year veteran now faces misdemeanor charges for battery and criminal damage to property, according to ESPN.

It started with yelling about toilets. Steve Ballmer was so serious about turning the Los Angeles Clippers into a serious franchise for the first time in their existence that he wanted to make sure no fan ever waited in a long line to use the bathroom when the team opened its new arena. Ballmer's drive to win eventually led the Clippers to courting Kawhi Leonard in free agency, fresh off leading the Toronto Raptors to a 2019 NBA championship. Leonard wanted to live in Los Angeles, yes, but he also wanted Paul George as his running mate, so the Clippers shipped out a boatload of draft picks and future two-time MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to get him.
Leonard's people also made it known that their client wanted the type of big endorsement deals his off-putting, robotic personality couldn't land legitimately. Leonard's now infamous Uncle Dennis Robertson never tried to be subtle about his desire to secure similar off-court bags to the ones Kawhi's contemporaries like LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant were landing on their own accord, and leaks of his demands circulated as soon as Leonard hit free agency.
The Clippers became so entangled in pleasing Leonard that it led to blatant salary cap circumvention, first reported by investigative journalist Pablo Torre. The NBA found enough evidence supporting Torre's claims that it hammered the Clippers with the most severe penalty in league history, stripping five future first-round draft picks, suspending executives including Ballmer, and more. That figured to be the end of the story, with the Clippers spending the next decade trying to climb out of the abyss. Torre continued to hint that there was another shoe to drop, and now that it's here, the Clippers might be in much bigger trouble than anyone first believed.
The Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation into the Clippers, according to the New York Times, and it's already issued one subpoena. While the scope of the investigation is unclear for now, the fact that the feds are watching the Clippers for under-the-table dealings potentially makes this a much bigger deal than simply breaking NBA rules.
How does breaking NBA rules amount to a federal crime by the Clippers? While there's a lot left to come out, the main idea is that the Clippers committed some level of fraud. Daktronics was a publicly traded company, the only one of the four tied up in the Leonard scandal to fit that description, while Aspiration, Lockton Insurance, and Boingo Wireless were not. Publicly traded companies have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders to disclose big investments, and it sure feels like that never happened when dealing with Leonard.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are facing the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season, and while experts are widely expecting the Jaguars to walk away with an easy win, that doesn't mean Jacksonville shouldn't take this game seriously.

The Jaguars' run game is one of the biggest question marks going into 2026, but pushing the run game will be more important than just proving Jacksonville still has a good running back room without Travis Etienne. Cleveland's defense was better against the pass than the run, so the Jacksonville offense should avoid playing into the Browns' strength. Jared Verse is an elite pass rusher, and he and the secondary will almost certainly be gunning for Trevor Lawrence.
Establishing the new look backfield will keep the offense out of obvious passing situations, and prevent Cleveland's pass rush and secondary from dictating the game.

DALLAS - Some Republicans are saying they are worried about the cost and inflationary impacts of President Donald Trump's pledge to give American adults a $5,000 dividend if the GOP maintains control of Congress after the midterm election.
While a few Republicans expressed enthusiasm - Sen Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) said on X he will "get a bill ready" to get the dividend "passed immediately" after the election - a number of them expressed skepticism about Trump's promise.

"We'll actually see the specifics, but I believe tax cuts are going to provide the benefits that we need."

Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti didn't expect his team's injury report to fill up so quickly.
The No. 5 Hoosiers lost three starters in the first quarter of a 52-16 win over North Texas, a situation Cignetti has never experienced.
"I've never played, I don't think, a football game where we lost three starters in the first quarter," Cignetti said Thursday night on his weekly radio show. "Let alone the opening game of the year."

Indiana played much of the game with starting corners Jamari Sharpe and A.J. Harris sidelined and were short-handed at running back thanks to a fluke injury to Khobie Martin. Earlier this week, Cignetti labeled IU's corners as "day-to-day" and told reporters Martin would likely be out until midseason.

Throughout the offseason, Chiefs players and coaches have spoken with a lot of excitement about running back Kenneth Walker and what he can bring to the offense.
That trend continued on Thursday with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who noted the versatility Walker has displayed in practice through training camp.
"You've got to use that guy," Mahomes said of Walker in his Thursday press conference. "I mean, he's a talented football player. He runs tough. He has speed. He can break a touchdown at any moment. He can catch the ball. He does kind of it all.
"And so, when you have those guys on your team, you find ways to get them the football. If that's either just handing the ball off to them or throwing it to them, you've got to and so we got him for a reason. He came in with the right mindset and mentality, and he's really attacked this offseason. And so, I think he's as excited as anybody to get out there in Arrowhead and have Chiefs Kingdom behind him, and so him as well as Emmett [Johnson] and Brashard [Smith], I mean, we've got a good running back room, and we'll utilize those guys within this offense."
The first chance we'll all have to see Walker with the Chiefs will be on Monday night when the club takes on the Broncos.

Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is moving further into the autonomous-driving market as it has started offering robotaxi rides using its Cybercab. The company hosted a Cybercab launch event in Austin on September 3.
Following the event, Goldman Sachs maintained a Neutral rating on Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA). The bank has a 12-month price target of $360 on the stock. The firm sees an illustrative upside scenario of about $500 and a downside scenario of roughly $150.
Goldman Sachs said the Cybercab could give the company a cost advantage in the autonomous-vehicle market. However, the firm believes the company's ability to scale its robotaxi business will depend more on software performance than on the cost of manufacturing the vehicle.
Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) said it has completed 1 million miles of unsupervised robotaxi operations. The company is also looking for operators interested in owning Cybercab fleets, running hubs and related infrastructure, or hosting robotaxi events.
Goldman Sachs highlighted the company's focus on developing a low-cost autonomous vehicle. The company's unboxed manufacturing approach and camera-only sensor system could help improve the economics of its robotaxi business. According to Goldman estimates, if Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) can achieve its targeted Cybercab cost of $20,000 to $30,000 at scale, it could have a potential $0.05 to $0.30 per-mile cost advantage over autonomous-vehicle competitors with upfront vehicle costs of $50,000 to $100,000.

The San Francisco 49ers opened their 2026 regular season with an emphatic win over the NFC West-rival Los Angeles Rams by a 27-7 final score.
The Niners effectively silenced doubters through Week 1, with a dominant performance that will undoubtedly reposition some stances taken with San Francisco and just how good it can be.
The defense allowed just one score and the offense scored 24 unanswered points after going down 7-3 early in the second quarter. Quarterback Brock Purdy completed 25 of 34 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns.
"I mean, at the end of the day, it comes down to playing our style of ball, doing what coaches coach us up to do, and running our plays," Purdy said in a postgame interview with Netflix. "Obviously, you got to respect the other guys on the other side, and we know what they can do. But at the end of the day, man, it comes down to executing, protecting the ball, moving the ball, getting points on (the) board, keeping it simple."

The Los Angeles Rams stumbled in the worst way against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, losing their season opener, 27-7. It was one of the worst losses in Sean McVay's tenure, making the long flight back to Southern California feel that much longer after a defeat like that.
Three players stood out in a positive way for the Rams, but many of their biggest stars were disappointments in Melbourne.
It's hard to find very many bright spots from this loss, but Corum was one of them. He rushed 10 times for 54 yards, with a long of 13 yards. At one point in the second quarter, he racked up 34 yards on four straight carries, looking quick and explosive through the line of scrimmage.
Some will make the case that he should be the Rams' No. 1 running back, and while we're not quite at that point yet, he did look like the bigger playmaker on the field Thursday.
From the very beginning of the game, Stafford didn't look comfortable. He was holding the ball a second longer than usual, whether it was because receivers weren't getting open or he wasn't trusting what he was seeing. He completed just 15 of 25 passes for 155 yards and no touchdowns with one bad interception when the Rams were in field goal range.

Wall Street has bid up defense contractors on geopolitical tensions alongside expanded missile-defense funding, but Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) remains an outlier. On September 4, 2026, the company secured a $508.5 million Missile Defense Agency contract for ICBM and IRBM target flight-test support running through 2035. The non-competitive contract follows the $3 billion (approx.) in framework agreements to expand solid-rocket-motor production for PAC-3 and THAAD interceptors. Despite these bookings, stock slipped 2.5% to $515. The stock is trading near 16 times earnings and 33% below its peak, making Northrop one of the lowest-multiple prime defense contractors.
Northrop is one of the largest-cap defense contractors with exposure to Golden Dome through ******* e sensors and interceptors, while the Sentinel ICBM and the B-21 bomber provide additional exposure to broader U.S. strategic modernization. The recent bookings back that up: the $508.5 million MDA award, the ~$3 billion PAC-3 and THAAD agreements that will double and triple solid-rocket-motor capacity, and $1.4 billion of IBCS-related U.S. and Polish air-and-missile-defense awards announced in 2025. The latest MDA contract includes cost-plus, cost-reimbursable, and fixed-price-incentive elements, which reduce some financial exposure compared with purely fixed-price development work. Long-term missile-shield funding, however, remains tied to both political and defense bets. Legislative approval introduces timing risk, but the bull thesis is already working.
Execution problems explain the valuation discount. WATERBURY - High school football's double-wing offense is affectionately known by smashmouth running game enthusiasts as the "hammer."
Naugatuck was down 14 points in its season opener against Holy Cross on Thursday night at Municipal Stadium's Ray Snyder Sr. Field, but that changed once the visitors went to the hammer offense.
The Greyhounds scored three unanswered touchdowns, the last two runs of 15 and 4 yards by Brandon Andoh behind a monster offensive line, to stun the Crusaders 27-20.
Andoh's 4-yard score with 33.4 seconds left in the game and Gabriel Bello's third extra point in four attempts gave Naugatuck a 7-point lead, its first of the game.
The Greyhounds' defense made sure a last-ditch Hail Mary pass from Crusaders quarterback Brady Lombardo came up short of the end zone. That set off a massive celebration by Naugatuck and its student section.

GLASTONBURY - Eli Showerda kept the ball on an option from 1 yard out with 20 seconds remaining to lift the Maloney football team to a 35-28 season-opening victory over Glastonbury on Thursday night.
The senior quarterback did damage through the air, too, throwing two first-half touchdown passes before delivering the game-winning score on the ground.
His first touchdown pass, a 15-yarder to senior running back Devan Bacote, tied the game 14-14 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Showerda connected with Jayden Soto over the middle for an 83-yard touchdown that gave the Spartans a 21-14 lead.
The game, however, was far from over.
Leading by eight with 4:41 remaining, Maloney watched Glastonbury put together a game-tying drive after Shane Santora returned the kickoff past midfield to give the Guardians excellent field position. Quarterback Matthew Cartwright capped the drive with a 20-yard touchdown run before Glastonbury converted the 2-point conversion to tie the game 28-28 with 3:31 left.

SOUTHINGTON - Lost to injury last season but not forgotten during the Southington football team's surprising run to the Class LL state ***** le game, senior running back Nick Andrews showed why this year's Blue Knights have yet another weapon at their disposal.
Andrews, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 3 last year, started Thursday night in the No. 3 Blue Knights' backfield and ran for a pair of touchdowns. He nearly scored a third time on a kickoff return as he accounted for nearly 200 all-purpose yards in the No. 3 Blue Knights' 52-6 CCC win over Bristol Central at Fontana Field.
"Coming back from injury, I was low-key a little nervous. There were some ***** erflies in my stomach," Andrews said. "But then we hit warm-ups and I cracked a little smile. I just love football.
"Last year, getting injured was really tough. I went through a ton of mixed emotions. But looking back (now), I can't look at myself as a wimp. I got to stand up. I just went to work 24-7."
The player who stepped in for Andrews a season ago and scored 21 touchdowns, junior Ben Beaulieu, also scored twice in the Blue Knights' opening-night rout.

San Francisco 49ers RB Kaelon Black had a game-high 14 carries for 65 yards against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. He added a five-yard reception on his lone target.

Why It Matters: For years, the 49ers have steadfastly refused to utilize a second running back in any meaningful way when Christian McCaffrey has been available. On Thursday, they did just that, giving the rookie 14 rushing attempts -- that was four more than McCaffrey, and five more than last year's RB2 Brian Robinson had in any game. Black delivered, too, running hard and posting a healthy 4.6 yards per carry. You never want to read too much into Week 1, and there were extenuating circumstances with the game taking place in Australia, but Black did enough to warrant adding off waivers if he's out there.

MELBOURNE, Australia - The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Los Angeles Rams in convincing fashion in their season-opener Friday afternoon (Thursday night in the United States), 27-7, at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
After arriving in Australia a week before kickoff, the 49ers looked far more energized than the Super Bowl-favorite Rams, who touched down just more than 24 hours before the game and appeared visibly exhausted. Last year's NFL MVP, Matthew Stafford, looked helpless against a disruptive 49ers defense, while Brock Purdy diced up the opposition that was littered with big-time offseason acquisitions.
Here are immediate takeaways from the 49ers' commanding first win, in front of an announced crowd of 100,021.
Against a Rams defense that added defensive end Myles Garrett and cornerback Trent McDuffie, the 49ers had little trouble. They converted seven of 12 third downs and totaled 379 yards of offense. The ground game in particular was impressive, where San Francisco averaged 5.9 yards per attempt.
Rookie running back Kaelon Black added some zip to San Francisco's offense - and, as an added bonus, took much of the load off of 30-year-old Christian McCaffrey - rushing for 65 yards on 14 attempts. McCaffrey still featured in the offense, touching the ball 15 times, but his services weren't as needed once San Francisco went up 17 points in the third quarter.
