Jayden Daniels is tired.
At the Washington Commanders' mandatory minicamp on Wednesday, starting quarterback Jayden Daniels said he is done talking about last year. One thing is certain: Daniels is tired of talking about the 5-12, 2025 season. He was asked about it again on Wednesday, and he frankly shed light, revealing his feelings. He doesn't want to talk about it anymore.
It's tough to say what the right answer was to the question asked of Daniels. Once again, as is so often the case in life, there are two sides to each coin. The media have had so little opportunity to speak with Daniels directly since the completion of the dreadful 2025 season. Consequently, I fully understand why Daniels was asked about his struggles in 2025.
#Commanders QB Jayden Daniels on the struggles from last season:

“I’m done talking about last year. Last year was last year, moving onto this season. Whatever happened last year, is what happened last year…”

On his goals this year:

It's been 35 years since the Washington Commanders won the Super Bowl. It's been that long since they were even part of the Big Game. They came close in 2024 when they reached the NFC Championship Game, but lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, who would go on to win the Super Bowl that year.
The Commanders had high hopes for 2025, but injuries derailed Jayden Daniels's sophomore season, and the Commanders won just five games. They look to get back on track in 2026, but there are still questions around the team's activity this offseason and if it was enough.
We won't know the answer to that question until the season starts, but the goal remains the same: Make the postseason and win the Super Bowl. Only one team can do that each year, though, and Bleacher Report has identified each team's current window to win the championship. For the Commanders, the window is 1-8 years.
This all depends on the direction of Jayden Daniels in a critical third season. If he can rebound after a tough, injury-marred sophomore season, the Commanders could have a chance to build a New England-like championship window. If he struggles to make an impact again, this could all go bust.
This season is definitely critical in Jayden Daniels' career trajectory. If he can't recover from last season's adversity, he will find himself on the outside looking in. An elite quarterback can suffer a down year and recover, so how he responds this season will dictate the direction of the rest of his career.

The Philadelphia Eagles have become one of the NFL's most consistent franchises in the modern era, but their all-time winning percentage reflects a longer history filled with peaks, rebuilds, droughts, and championship-level breakthroughs.
In a Saints Wire ranking of all 32 NFL teams by all-time winning percentage, Philadelphia landed at No. 18 with a .502 mark and an overall record of 649-645-27. The Eagles sit just above .500 in franchise history, ranking ahead of the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Commanders, Buffalo Bills, Tennessee ******* ans, New Orleans Saints, and several other franchises, while trailing teams such as the New York Giants, Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers. The ranking is a reminder of how different the franchise's modern identity looks compared with its broader historical profile. The Eagles have reached three Super Bowls since the 2004 season, won two championships in the Super Bowl era, and built one of the league's most aggressive, forward-thinking operations under owner Jeffrey Lurie and general manager Howie Roseman. Philadelphia's recent success has lifted the franchise into a different national tier, but decades of uneven results before the Andy Reid era still shape the all-time percentage.
For a franchise that began play in 1933, the Eagles have lived several different football lives. There were early championship years, long stretches of frustration, the Buddy Ryan era, the Reid-Donovan McNabb run, the Doug Pederson Super Bowl breakthrough, and the current Jalen Hurts-led chapter. That history explains why Philadelphia can feel like one of the NFL's premier modern organizations while still ranking in the middle of the league by all-time winning percentage.
The Eagles' standing also reflects the importance of sustained success over time. Philadelphia's current era has been defined by aggressive roster construction, strong play on both the offensive and defensive lines, quarterback stability, and the ability to remain competitive amid coaching changes and roster turnover. Those traits have helped the Eagles close the gap historically, and continued winning under Hurts could push the franchise higher in future rankings.
The NFC East context remains notable. Dallas ranked No. 2 with a .571 all-time winning percentage, while the New York Giants landed at No. 14 with a .518 mark, and Washington ranked No. 20 at .495. Philadelphia trails the Cowboys and Giants historically, but the Eagles have been the division's most dangerous and consistent modern contender during several stretches of the past two decades.

Despite the moves the Pittsburgh Steelers have made this offseason, there are still spots on the roster that could use an upgrade, should the opportunity present itself. One of those positions is wide receiver. Rookie Kaden Wetjen has been less-than impressive during minicamp and the jury is still out on Roman Wilson.
This could mean waiting until teams make their final roster cuts just before the start of the regular season. And a name to consider that Steelers' fans will recognize is current Washington Commanders wide receiver Van Jefferson.
Jefferson spent 2024 with the Steelers and hauled in 24 passes despite a deep room of pass catchers and some terrible quarterback play. Jefferson was actually listed as a starter in 12 games that season. Jefferson then left in free agency for to play for the Tennessee ******* ans and caught 29 passes in six starts. Now, Jefferson finds himself with the Commanders but squarely on the roster bubble. If the Steelers get through training camp and have to cut ties with Wetjen or Wilson, Jefferson is a low-risk veteran option.

What will the Washington Commanders look like in 2026? Expectations are mixed for the Commanders, based on how they finished last season. Washington went 5-12 in 2025, one year after going 12-5 and reaching the NFC Championship Game.
While skepticism is warranted, there are reasons to be excited about Washington's upcoming season. General manager Adam Peters spent heavily to improve one of the NFL's worst defenses. Washington will be younger, faster and, most importantly, better in 2026. How much better? That remains to be seen.
Another reason to be excited is the healthy returns of Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin. Both are out to prove last season was a fluke after the pair missed a combined 17 games.
Matt Verdareme of Sports Illustrated recently gave every team a reason to hope in 2026. He wasn't done, though, also giving each team a reason to mope.
First, a reason to hope.

The Miami Dolphins have five weeks off until training camp begins. Following minicamp sessions and OTAs, rookie head coach Jeff Hafley was able to evaluate his new team, but the real **** sment will come in July when the pads and helmets come on, and actual football is played.
In Part II of this Dolphins Wire series of what to watch for this summer in South Florida, the focus here is on the secondary, an area in which Hafley is very familiar as a former defensive backs position coach.
The Dolphins drafted cornerback Chris Johnson in the first round of the 2026 draft and traded up to select him. As Hafley has indicated several times over the last few months, Johnson could be used both on the boundary as well as in the slot when in the nickel formation. This will certainly be something to watch for in camp, especially in joint practices with the Washington Commanders and New York Giants.
Hafley told reporters back in May, “Chris is going to play inside and outside. We got to be careful overloading any young player, but we also have to get a feel for the players and see how much that they can handle.”
Clearly fond of the San Diego State lockdown corner, Hafley discussed the rookie's performance over the last few weeks, saying, “I think he's done a really nice job. He is very instinctual. He sees the game very fast. He works really hard in the meeting rooms. He's super athletic, has really good coverage ability. He’s been able to get his hand on the football and we've asked him to do a lot and he's handled it very, very well, which is what I kind of told you maybe a week or two ago.”

Editor’s note: We’ll count down the top 10 Commanders players on the 2026 roster regardless of position sporadically over the next few weeks. Before we get to it, here’s how we arrived at the ranking: Our Scott Bair, Scott Jennings and Mark Tyler compiled a top 13 – no ranking was identical — with points **** igned to each ranking slot from all three lists. We used these point values to form a consensus top 10 ranking. We’ll write a story on others receiving votes at the end, and Mark will probably have a Tyler’s Take with his thoughts. You’ll surely object to some of these rankings, though debate is kind of the point with lists like this. Well, let’s get to it with No. 8:
The Commanders need stability at every defensive level after a disastrous showing in 2025 where they couldn’t seem to stop anyone when it mattered most.
That’s why they relied so heavily on free agency to fortify that unit, adding veteran talent that didn’t need to be developed much. General manager Adam Peters went big on the defensive line, especially off the edge. He added speed and physicality at the linebacker spot.
Peters also found the defensive backfield’s anchor point in safety Nick Cross. He comes on a two-year deal and with some street cred established in Indianapolis, as a versatile, every-down safety who can play all over the place.
That proven talent instantly upgrades Washington’s roster, with Cross ranking No. 8 on our top 10 list of Commanders players regardless of position.

The Washington Commanders were back on the practice field on Tuesday to begin the third and final week of OTAs. There were some familiar faces in attendance, but not participating, namely, star wide receiver Terry McLaurin.
There doesn't appear to be any reason to panic. John Keim of ESPN noted that McLaurin was running on a side field, but not at full speed. Rookie wide receiver Antonio Williams joined McLaurin. Both players watched team drills from the sideline.
Is there reason to panic?
The Commanders offered no updates on McLaurin or Williams because it's not mandatory. So, head coach Dan Quinn does not need to discuss injuries or why a player does not participate in practice.
There's no reason to panic. Washington has OTAs for the remainder of this week, and McLaurin and Williams could be back on the field. If not, there's always next week when the Commanders hold their mandatory minicamp. This could be a case of McLaurin and Williams dealing with something minor, and Washington's training staff is not taking any chances.

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Commanders fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
Today, we have two questions in the Reacts survey.
Now that teams have completed free agency, the draft, and a couple of big June 1st trades have taken place in the NFL, rosters are pretty well set for training camp, so it’s finally time to make some predictions. Today, we’re gonna focus on the NFC division ******* le and the Commanders’ playoff future.
The first question simply asks you to predict which of the four division teams will win the division crown in 2026.
Here’s the case that might be made by the fans of each of the four teams:

The Washington Commanders are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL. They joined the league in 1932 as the sixth team formed after the Chicago Bears, Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, and Detroit Lions. And while they didn't move far from the D.C. area, they did build a new stadium in 1997 when they moved to Landover, Maryland.
A recent Sports Illustrated article named the 10 oldest stadiums in the NFL, and Northwest Stadium landed at number eight.
Northwest Stadium has been the home of Washington for nearly three decades. The stadium is located in Landover, Md., but the Commanders are soon planning a return to Washington D.C., where they spent much of the franchise’s history from 1937 to ’96 at Griffith Stadium and then RFK Stadium.
As it stands right now, after Soldier Field is Lambeau Field (1957), Arrowhead Stadium (1972), Caesar's Superdome (1975), Hard Rock Stadium (1987), EverBank Stadium (1995), and Bank of America Stadium (1996) are the seven stadiums that are older than Northwest Stadium.
However, the Bears are contemplating a move, potentially outside the state of Illinois. If they move, they will leave behind a huge part of their storied franchise history, and Lambeau Field will become the oldest active stadium in the NFL, and Northwest Stadium will become the 7th-oldest active stadium.

Four former Denver Broncos players hit the NFL's transaction wire in recent days.
Offensive tackle Marques **** , who was waived by the Broncos last month, was picked up by the Miami Dolphins. **** (6-5, 312 pounds) originally joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky in 2025. He spent part of his rookie season on Denver's practice squad. The Edmonton Elks have also placed **** on their negotiations list, so if the lineman ever runs out of NFL opportunities, the CFL could be a fallback option for him.
Elsewhere in the league, the San Francisco 49ers waived running back Sincere McCormick, who cleared waivers and is now a free agent. McCormick (5-8, 205 pounds) spent part of last season on the Broncos' practice squad.
Additionally, long snapper Zach Triner was released by the New York Giants last week. Triner, who won Super Bowl LV with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, spent most of the spring with Denver in 2025 before being cut. He had a stint with the Washington Commanders last season before landing in New York this offseason.
Finally, wide receiver Joaquin Davis was waived by the Minnesota Vikings. Davis signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina Central last spring, but did not make the 53-man roster as a rookie. After clearing waivers, Davis will look to find a new NFL home as a free agent.

It was a cool November afternoon. Polk High was down by three touchdowns in the championship game when an unassuming running back wearing the No. 33 took matters into his own hands. As a graduating senior, RB Al Bundy would go on to score four touchdowns enroute to victory, and a legend was born in the process.
The Dallas Cowboys have a similar reputation-setting performer on their roster. Like Bundy, it was one brilliant performance that lives on in local lore. Josh Butler, a down-roster cornerback from Michigan State, was making his second career start for the Cowboys. Like Bundy, Butler posted one of the most unbelievable performances of the year on a similarly cool November afternoon in 2024. Unfortunately, it's been a one-off.
Facing Washington as Dallas fought for their playoff lives, they needed everything Butler had to make victory possible.
After only appearing in three games prior, Bulter exploded that day, posting 10 solo tackles, a sack and three passes defensed. Bulter helped the Cowboys get by the Commanders, 34-26, as he became one of the most exciting young defensive backs on the roster.
Sadly, one game later, Bulter would fall to a season-ending knee injury, the recovery of which, would bleed well into the following year. In all, Bulter has made just three career starts and played in just six career games, yet his performance that one autumn day in 2024 lives on, making one wonder if Butler still has a chance.

The San Francisco 49ers' offseason has been anything but quiet. The noise surrounding the franchise has not stopped. Right in the middle of it all stands one player who refuses to go silent. His latest move just turned the volume up considerably.
Brandon Aiyuk has rarely stayed out of the spotlight in recent months. One of the 49ers' most talented playmakers remains at the center of attention. Fresh social media activity only added fuel to an already simmering situation. Fans are wondering what comes next as training camp approaches.
Aiyuk delivered his latest message via an Instagram video. The veteran wide receiver appeared to address critics, ongoing rumors, and questions surrounding his future with San Francisco while insisting ******* ody doubts his ability on the field.
"Man, stop running from the belt. The belt coming. You scared, they scared. The truth is they scared. They know how I get. They gonna say, 'Oh yeah, BA did this, BA did that. BA did, you know, that s**t allegedly. Allegedly. But what they not going to say is BA suck at football because they know how I get.'"
These remarks were published only days after investigative reports connected Aiyuk to a new series of controversies. The receiver recently drew attention after an arrest warrant was issued in connection with a 2025 speeding incident near Levi's Stadium. His recent photos wearing a Washington Commanders hat have reignited speculation regarding his future with the team.

There's no question how valuable Terry McLaurin is to the Washington Commanders. We saw it firsthand in 2025, when McLaurin, for the first time in his career, missed significant time. He had previously missed only three games in six seasons, but missed seven in 2025. The Commanders struggled to get production from their wide receivers and the offense sputtered with McLaurin and quarterback Jayden Daniels in and out of the lineup.
McLaurin is also proof that not all No. 1 receivers are drafted in the first round. McLaurin was a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, No. 76 overall. Despite playing with numerous quarterbacks over the years, McLaurin developed into one of the NFL's best receivers, earning two lucrative contract extensions from the Commanders.
How valuable is McLaurin? Pro Football Focus recently ranked the 20 most valuable non-first-round picks since 2016. McLaurin made the list, coming in at No. 17.
The lone consistent force on Washington’s offense for a considerable period, McLaurin has haunted defensive coordinators throughout the bulk of his career.
Since 2019, the Ohio State alum is eighth in WAR at the position, and his 91.0 PFF receiving grade sits 14th. While his game is well-rounded, McLaurin’s best ******* et could be his contested catch ability — where he leads the league with 114 since 2019.

The Washington Commanders entered the offseason with plenty of holes to fill. Fortunately, they had plenty of money to spend and were among the top five teams in salary cap ****** e.
Injuries ruined Washington's 2025 season. One year after going 12-5 and reaching the NFC Championship Game, the Commanders tumbled to 5-12. Injuries decimated the roster last season, with quarterback Jayden Daniels and wide receiver Terry McLaurin among the most notable players who missed significant time.
However, Washington's offense wasn't its main problem last season. It was the defense. The defense wasn't very good in 2024, but the Commanders had a healthy Daniels and McLaurin leading an offense that scored almost 30 points per game. Sure, injuries impacted the defense, but age, a lack of overall talent and speed were bigger issues.
This offseason, GM Adam Peters planned on making the Commanders "younger and faster." That's exactly what he did, adding multiple defensive starters in free agency, with most being 27 or younger. Peters specifically focused on improving Washington's pass rush, giving Odafe Oweh a four-year, $100 million contract, in addition to signing K'Lavon Chaisson and Charles Omenihu. Peters also revamped the linebacker position, signing Leo Chenal to a three-year deal and using a first-round pick on Sonny Styles.
How significant were Washington's investments in its defense this offseason? According to Warren Sharp, the Commanders have the sixth-most expensive defense in 2026 at $165.8 million.

Josh Conerly Jr.’s NFL draft profile listed him at 311 pounds. The Commanders had him at 315 shortly after selecting him at No. 29 overall in 2025, and the starting right tackle finished his rookie year at 318.
That doesn’t seem like much of a shift, but the Oregon product wasn’t happy with the weight or his body composition at the time. He decided to do something about it, to be in the best shape possible heading into 2026.
“I did cut a heavy amount at the end of last season, because I ended up at 318 or something,” Conerly said. “I was pretty fat. I cut down a lot of body fat and added some muscle.”
His strategy was simple: “Eat a little cleaner. Eat a lot less.”
Conerly went back to Oregon to work with strength coaches and a personal chef. He spent some time in Alabama training with Commanders left tackle Laremy Tunsil, never a bad idea from a conditioning and technical perspective. Then he came to the Commanders complex for the offseason program looking lean and mean and ready to get better.

The Washington Commanders had some specific goals during the offseason. Make the defense younger and faster, and find someone to take the pressure off of Terry McLaurin. General manager Adam Peters can check the first one off his list, while the latter is still up in the air.
The Commanders' wide receivers' room includes Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, Antonio Williams, Luke McCaffrey, Jaylin Lane, and Van Jefferson, with McLaurin as the undisputed WR1. The other receivers, though, have been named a position battle to watch during the offseason.
Commanders wide receiver: Treylon Burks vs. Dyami Brown vs. Antonio Williams vs. Luke McCaffrey vs. Jaylin Lane vs. Van Jefferson
Washington has struggled with WR depth behind Terry McLaurin for years now. Last year's solution -- Deebo Samuel -- remains a free agent as the Commanders search for a more dynamic alternative. A free agent or trade (Brandon Aiyuk?) could still fill the spot, but the Commanders need someone to emerge from this smattering of veterans and recent middle-round picks. Williams, the 2026 third-rounder, is the one to watch with his high ceiling and inside/outside versatility.
First, let's address the Brandon Aiyuk situation. Even if the San Francisco 49ers decide to release him, they haven't yet, which means that no other NFL team knows how he is doing physically, or if he's in any kind of game shape. No one will know that until he reports for a physical. On top of not knowing where he stands physically, the 49ers can essentially hold him hostage for however long they see fit, giving him minimal time to prepare with whichever team he lands with.

Myles Garrett was added to the Commanders schedule earlier this week. The Cleveland Browns weren’t suddenly part of Washington’s slate. Garrett became one after being traded to the Los Angeles Rams in a blockbuster deal made official on Monday.
The Rams got Garrett. The Browns got young edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a conditional 2029 third-round pick.
That means Garrett will face the Commanders in a Week 9 matchup at Northwest Stadium. He almost exclusively lines up over the left tackle, creating an epic matchup with Washington’s Laremy Tunsil one of the best at his position.
There’s a mutual respect between these two **** ans, which Tunsil made clear in a recent podcast appearance on “Strong Talk” posted by Men’s Health Magazine.
“Myles Garrett is the best defensive player in the NFL,” Tunsil said. “I’ve been playing against Myles since he was a freshman in college and that had to be, like, (2014). We’ve been battling ever since. Every time we see each other, it’s respect. It’s a different type of lock in, because he doesn’t want to lose and I don’t want to lose. We play the Rams in (Week 9), so it’ll be another fun one.”

The Washington Commanders returned to the practice field on Tuesday for the second week of OTAs. Head coach Dan Quinn and offensive coordinator David Blough spoke to the media before practice.
It was another chance for quarterback Jayden Daniels to take snaps under center in Blough's new offense. Most importantly, the OTAs are an opportunity for some of Washington's current wide receivers to separate themselves ahead of training camp. And, according to Zach Selby of commanders.com, Luke McCaffrey and Treylon Burks are among those standing out.
Before practice, Quinn told the media to watch Washington's speed at multiple positions.
"A couple of things you'll see today, first off, you'll see speed, and that's I think one thing that should jump out to you at a number of different spots," Quinn said.
So, what else happened during Tuesday's OTAs? Courtesy of the Washington media in attendance in Ashburn, here is a collection of videos and photos from practice.

Deebo Samuel prediction should lead to ex-49ers star ending up with NFC contender

Deebo Samuel prediction should lead to ex-49ers star ending up with NFC contender originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is in a much different part of his career than many would have expected him to be in just a few years ago. During certain parts of his time with the 49ers, Samuel was viewed as one of the better wide receivers in the NFL.
He was also used as a running back, showing he had the opportunity to impact the game in multiple ways on offense. While Samuel is still a decent player in some regards, he definitely isn't what he once was, and showed that with the Washington Commanders.
Now a free agent, despite him not being what he once was, there's still reason to believe that he can bring some value to a contending team, especially ones that don't have an elite wide receiver corps. That includes the Green Bay Packers, a team the former 49ers star was recently linked to.
“Samuel can be utilized in a number of roles lining up all over the field and offering value as a potential backfield option. This will bring out the best of LaFleur’s offensive creativity and give Love a much-needed weapon in the 2026 season,” Nick Halden wrote.

Best Landing Spots for Top Remaining NFL Free Agents: Tyreek Hill, Deebo Samuel,...

The NFL Draft is over, which typically signals the end of player additions for most teams, but this year, there are still some really solid players available in free agency. We’ve already seen a handful of them scooped up after the draft, but there are still plenty of starters available on the open market.
While most teams feel pretty good about the offseason they’ve put together, adding a cherry on top never hurt anybody, so today, I’m going through some of the best free agents still available and giving my best landing spot for each of them.
Best Landing Spot: Washington Commanders
Jauan Jennings was one of the top receivers to hit the open market this offseason and was projected by some to make over $20 million per year. But, somewhat inexplicably, he remains unsigned after the draft, while a slew of other receivers received big contracts in the opening week of free agency.
Jennings is 6-foot-3, 212 pounds and has 1,500+ yards and 15 touchdowns over the past two seasons. He’s can be a really solid WR2 or a high-end WR3 for a lot of teams in the league, but I would love to see him in Washington.

Legendary Washington coach Joe Gibbs remembers Monte Coleman

While the NFL world has focused on the 2026 NFL Draft this week, it's been a difficult few days for the Washington Commanders. On Sunday, Washington lost a franchise legend when former linebacker Monte Coleman died. He was 68.
An 11th-round pick back in the 1979 NFL Draft, Coleman would go on to play 16 NFL seasons — all with the Redskins. He played on four Super Bowl teams and was a three-time Super Bowl champion. Coleman wasn't just on those teams; he was a key defender for years. Coleman was one of the NFL's most athletic linebackers throughout his career. That type of skill set would make him valuable in today's NFL.
The loss of Coleman has impacted Washington fans and several legendary former Redskins. Tributes have poured in for Coleman, including from Commanders Wire. It's almost impossible to encapsulate what Coleman meant to many of his former teammates, coaches and the fans. Not only was Coleman a terrific player, but an honorable man.
On Wednesday, Hall of Fame Washington coach Joe Gibbs weighed in on Coleman's passing.
"Monte meant so much to the Washington community," Gibbs wrote. "He was a fan favorite. He played his entire 16-year career with us, and only Darrell (Green) played in more games in franchise history. He was a key part of all our Super Bowl teams. He was really respected by his teammates, leading by example through his preparation and his workout routines. He really had a tremendous work ethic. He applied all those same qualities into his coaching at University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. But more impressive than all of that is the type of person that Monte was. He truly was well liked by everyone he came into contact with. We are praying for his wife, Yvette, and his children."

Commanders GM Adam Peters has a busy offseason ahead

Perhaps Adam Peters will approach free agency as he did in 2024?
You may recall that the Washington Commanders' new GM arrived and was busy releasing veterans, signing new ones, and making a draft-day trade to acquire an extra draft choice.
In that first off season for the Commanders, Peters quickly released three starters from the 2023 team: Logan Thomas, Nick Gates and Charles Leno, Jr. Then Peters surprised many by letting Commanders go that he had no interest in re-signing such as RB Antonio Gibson, DE Casey Toohill, WR Curtis Samue
