The WNBA's momentum, which started gaining steam with Caitlin Clark's arrival in the 2024 draft, has been unstoppable. Heading into the 2026 season, ESPN's VP of women's sports programming and espnW, Susie Piotrkowski, spoke about the network's view of Clark as a "gateway drug" into women's sports.
"If that brought you in, I'm going to keep you here," Piotrkowski said.
Through the first half of the season, she, along with the WNBA's other media partners in its new 11-year, $2.2 billion media deal, have delivered. The league held its 2026 All-Star Weekend in Chicago over the weekend, and per a report from Austin Karp at Sports Business Journal, WNBA telecasts are up 12% compared to last season at the All-Star Break across its rights partners.
To Piotrkowski's credit, Clark has certainly been the biggest driver of that success, as the top seven broadcasts in the first half of the season all involved her Indiana Fever. Indiana's win over the New York Liberty on July 18, which averaged 2.58 million viewers, was the most-watched WNBA telecast ever on CBS, and the second-most-watched WNBA game this season, behind only Fever-Las Vegas Aces (2.64 million) on NBC and Peacock on July 12.
Unsurprisingly, Clark's ratings impact was also felt over All-Star Weekend.

Following the Indianapolis Colts' first training camp practice, there were some noteworthy lineup observations made by the Indy Star's Joel Erickson in a post-practice report.
With Alec Pierce sidelined, starting at wide receiver next to Josh Downs were Ashton Dulin and Laquon Treadwell. With the third starting wide receiver role on the roster up for grabs, Dulin and Treadwell appear to be the early favorites to fill that role.
Dulin, in particular, is coming off a strong showing during offseason programs. Along with Treadwell being in the mix for snaps on offense, his ability to contribute to a few different special teams phases helps his case to make a roster push.
Then at linebacker, with CJ Allen on the PUP list, Erickson notes that Bryce Boettcher and Akeem Davis-Gaither were the two starters. This doesn't come as a big surprise, considering that both saw snaps with the ones during offseason programs. These two may end up battling for the starting spot next to Allen.

Former Florida baseball star Harrison Bader's injury woes just got worse, much to the chagrin of his current MLB club, the San Francisco Giants.
The 10-year MLB veteran has been out since May 29 battling left plantar fasciitis. He then exacerbated that injury in a scooter accident over the weekend, according to the Giants.
Bader met with a foot and ankle specialist in Indianapolis on Monday, but the evaluation "was complicated by the fact that he had a scooter accident on Saturday night/early Sunday morning and further injured his same foot," according to the franchise's representative.
"The impact of that injury changed the nature of his evaluation, which had originally been to determine the severity of the initial injury/condition," the Giants said.
The center fielder then returned to San Francisco, where he was further examined again on the same day. He was expected to receive an MRI on Tuesday to "better understand the severity of the injuries sustained from the scooter accident," according to the club.

Indiana Fever fans have long admired Caitlin Clark and Flau'jae Johnson's relationship. Clark and Johnson have maintained their dynamic despite their battles in college. On Tuesday, Clark's gesture towards Johnson after the Indiana Fever's 105-95 win against the Seattle Storm won everyone's hearts.
The superstar guard seemingly asked Johnson to keep her chin up after a rough game. The rookie finished with 16 points, but shot a measly 26.7% from the field and was 0-for-6 from long distance. Johnson's night also wrapped up slightly early after she committed her sixth foul on Clark with 1:15 left in the game.

Anderson was a two-time All-Patriot League first-team honoree.
Coker, who signed a three-year contract extension with the Panthers in June, emerged as a vital part of the Panthers' offense his first two seasons in the NFL. ****** er missed the first six games of 2025 with a quadriceps injury before coming back to make 33 catches for 394 yards and 3 touchdowns and help Carolina win the NFC South ****** le for the first time in a decade. IndyCar has unwrapped its highly anticipated next-generation race car, the Dallara IR-28, with the new car scheduled to make its racing debut at the start of the 2028 season.
The brand-new chassis and aero pack replaces the long-serving Dallara DW12 chassis that has been running around the series since 2012-it's basically vintage at this point.
The redesign focused on reducing weight, increasing driver safety, and fundamentally changing the aerodynamics to maximize wheel-to-wheel overtaking opportunities. The Hoosiers have had moments where they've reigned in highly-rated high school prospects, but they've been few and far between. They've never had a five-star commit, as happened when Monshun Sales announced his decision earlier this month. Whether or not a new deal will be reached remains to be seen, but following Wednesday's first training camp practice, Taylor did say that there have "been some good conversations," according to ESPN's Stephen Holder.
Taylor added that he has "faith" that the two sides will be able to reach a new deal.
On Taylor's current deal, he is averaging $14 million per year, which ranks as the seventh-most among running backs. Perhaps of interest to Taylor as he looks for an extension, Devon Achane signed a four-year, $64 million extension this offseason, making him the third-highest-paid back in football.
From a production standpoint, Taylor remains one of the top backs in football, while shouldering a heavy workload out of the backfield. Amid the usual litany of off-court storylines, it's been a superb on-court season for the Fever star.

Both the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Oregon Ducks' offenses will be returning the same firepower. Also, the Ducks' defense will be back and even better. In a major development, London-based streaming platform DAZN will have a major hand in distributing local NBA broadcasts to fans next season.
According to a report by Austin Karp in Sports Business Journal, "DAZN is close to acquiring full exclusive local broadcast rights next season" for five NBA teams formerly under contract with Main Street Sports Group, owner of the now-defunct FanDuel Sports Networks. Those teams are the Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs, and Memphis Grizzlies. Additionally, DAZN is close to securing streaming-only arrangements with the Orlando Magic and "possibly" the Charlotte Hornets.
DAZN will also overtake what is now known as the Gotham Sports app, a joint streaming venture between YES Network and MSG Networks that sells access to local broadcasts for seven New York-area franchises — the Yankees, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Islanders, Devils, and Sabres.
The news is a culmination of DAZN's nearly year-long effort to break into the local sports broadcast market in the United States. After initially considering a lifesaving merger or acquisition of Main Street, DAZN instead chose to allow the company to collapse and attempt to court local rights for franchises independently. The streamer initially struck out on every MLB team following Main Street's collapse, but is now set to own streaming rights for at least nine NBA clubs, with the possibility of adding the Washington Wizards as a tenth under a non-exclusive streaming deal, per Sports Business Journal.
With the NBA looking to launch a centralized local streaming hub ahead of the 2027-28 season, DAZN will reportedly sign deals that are either one season in length or have mutual opt-out clauses following the upcoming season as teams demand the flexibility to join the league's aggregated local rights solution when it launches. Quarterback play is always paramount in modern college football, as opposed to past decades when the running game mattered most in the sport. This is true in the Big Ten. Fernando Mendoza, the starting quarterback for the **** le-winning Indiana Hoosiers last season, was picked No. 1 in this past NFL draft. This upcoming season, the best quarterbacks in college football reside in the Big Ten. Whoever comes out on top in the Big Ten will have a quarterback who proved to be the best in college football.
Here is my ranking of the top five quarterbacks in the Big Ten:
Dante Moore shone last season, and just like last year, he was in conversations for being the best quarterback in college football. Moore threw for 2733 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. He is dangerous in the pocket and an underrated athlete. Last year, he made the most of having great weapons and a great run game, helping lead Oregon's prolific offense to a college football playoff berth. This season, he enters with more continuity and a deeper set of weapons at each of the skill positions. I expect Moore to have a big season and end the year off being the undisputed #1 overall pick just like Fernando Mendoza.
Sayin's season last year was incredible, and he was extremely efficient. He had all the resources to be in that position with weapons, Jeremiah Smith, and Carnell Tate, but he still maximized his opportunity as a freshman starter. He ended the year with 3323 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. The connection he has with Jeremiah Smith is already a proven one, and he showed he can run the offense even better than Will Howard did the year prior. However, as expected from most freshmen, under the bright lights, he did fall short in the College Football Playoff vs the Miami Hurricanes and in the Big Ten championship vs the Indiana Hoosiers. Although his season was special, he still has more room to grow. If he takes that next step, the Ohio State Buckeyes will have another national **** le trophy in their case.
Jayden Maiava still does not get the credit he deserves for how good he truly was last season. In his first season as a starting quarterback, he led the Trojans' offense to being a top unit in the country. Lincoln Riley's offense was dangerous and high scoring because of how good and confident Maiava was last season. Maiava threw for 3431 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. Maiava is a gun slinger, and he takes a lot of shots, but playing more under control would do wonders for his perception and draft stock. If he can have a similar season, with fewer interceptions and showcase his running ability more, there is reason to believe he can be one of the first quarterbacks taken in this next draft. The success of the Trojans this year falls on Maiava's back, but I am confident he will take a step forward and not back in year 2.

Aliyah Boston's strong start against the Seattle Storm came to a sudden and concerning end Tuesday night.
The Indiana Fever center left the game during the second quarter after crashing hard to the floor at Climate Pledge Arena. Boston landed directly on her right knee and immediately reached for the injured area as teammates and members of Indiana's training staff rushed over to check on her.
Boston was eventually helped to her feet and taken to the locker room. Although the Fever initially listed her as questionable to return, she did not check back into Indiana's 103-93 victory. The scene was especially troubling because Boston has already battled a lower right leg injury this season. She played only five minutes in Saturday's WNBA All-Star Game, giving her additional time to rest before the Fever resumed their regular-season schedule.
Boston was injured midway through the second quarter while running a pick-and-roll with Caitlin Clark. After setting a screen, Boston rolled toward the basket and appeared to get tangled up with Storm rookie Flau'jae Johnson. Her momentum carried her forward, and her right knee absorbed much of the impact when she hit the court.

The Oregon Ducks men's basketball program has gone through a litany of changes this offseason, with eight incoming transfers replacing eight outgoing transfers. The coaching staff has also experienced its fair share of changes, as long-time Dana Altman ***** istant coach Mike Mennenga departed for Creighton and Brandon Kuhn was hired as the new strength and conditioning coach.
The latest change comes from ***** istant coach Kevin McKenna, who has decided to retire. McKenna has worked on the player development side for the past few seasons, helping develop a trio of Jackson Shelstad, Nate Bittle and Kwame Evans Jr. into All-Big Ten caliber players. He spent 16 seasons at Oregon.
McKenna's basketball career spans back a number of decades, as he was a standout player at Creighton before being selected 88th overall in the fourth round by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1981 NBA Draft. He spent six seasons in the league with eight different teams before heading into coaching after his playing days concluded.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Harrison Bader was involved in a weekend scooter accident that aggravated his left foot injury, the team announced July 28.
Bader played for the Cincinnati Reds for part of the 2023 season. He has played for seven teams over 10 MLB seasons.
Bader hasn't played since May 29 because of left plantar fasciitis.
The Giants said Bader met with a foot and ankle specialist July 27 in Indianapolis, but it "was complicated by the fact that he had a scooter accident on Saturday night/early Sunday morning and further injured his same foot."
The Reds are scheduled to visit the Giants in San Francisco August 24-26.
