Just days after acquiring Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns, the Los Angeles Rams are giving their new superstar a raise. According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, Garrett and the Rams have agreed to a reworked contract.
Florio doesn’t have the full details of Garrett’s new contract, but it’s a five-year deal and there are options available through 2038. Previously, Garrett was signed through 2030.
The Rams are giving Garrett a $35.7 million signing bonus and his salary will be at least $1.3 million, which means his total pay for 2026 will be at least $37 million. Previously, he was set to make $31.5 million, so that’s a raise of at least $5.5 million.

Upon hearing the news about Myles Garrett, many reacted with a strange combination of fear and relief. There's no other way to put it. For a brief second, thoughts were juggled about how dangerous Garrett and Jared Verse would be as a tandem. Then, we all dug a little deeper.
Verse was part of the trade package that sent Garrett from the Cleveland Browns to the Los Angeles Rams. Whew… That was close. No one was ever going to be able to stop L.A.'s pass rush with those two monsters together. Then came the angle relative to the Baltimore Ravens.
Garrett is finally out of the AFC North! Oh come on! You know you cracked a smile. Following an OTA practice session that was open to the Baltimore media, Zay Flowers took some time to wipe the sweat from his brow.
Most Ravens fans can relate. Something isn't being talked about enough, though. Jared Verse isn't some slouch. Sure, the Browns no longer have the game's best defensive player on their roster, but by moving him, they added the guy who is very capable of taking that ******* le from him at some point.
Cleveland also added draft capital to help them continue building their roster. In addition to Verse, they receive a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick. That's a nice haul. If they hit the target with those choices. They can certainly continue upgrading their roster.

The Browns traded away the current defensive player of the year when they dealt Myles Garrett to the Rams earlier this week, but they emerged from the trade with the last two defensive rookies of the year.
Jared Verse won the prize in 2024 and linebacker Carson Schwesinger gave the 2025 Browns a pair of award winners on the defensive side of the ball. Verse has not been a member of the Browns for long, but the edge rusher knows enough about his new team to know that Schwesinger provides him with a comfortable security blanket.
“Man, that boy can fly," Verse said, via a transcript from the team. "Nah, he can work. I like that a lot. I like knowing that behind me that I can . . . I don’t got much to worry about if something, you know, I can play freely because I don’t have to worry if something gets by me. He’s going to be able to handle that. He’s going to be able to clean everything up. So now that’s the exciting factor of it.”
The Browns did not win much with Garrett on the roster, but they usually had a strong defense. The presence of Schwesinger and others provides reason to believe that will continue to be the case and the hope is that the other **** ets that Cleveland acquired will lead to more victories while Verse is a member of the squad.

The Cleveland Browns locker room has barely had time to breathe. On June 1, the Browns traded two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams in one of the most shocking deals the league has seen in years. The move sent shockwaves across the NFL, leaving fans and ***** ysts scrambling for answers. Now, Jared Verse is the man Cleveland is counting on to fill that void, and he already has something to say.
Speaking to reporters after his first practice with Cleveland on Wednesday, the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year admitted the blockbuster deal caught him completely off guard. Verse admitted he was initially upset when he first heard about the trade, but said he was left with two choices: work or give up, and he has never been a quitter.
That resolve showed at the podium. Verse made clear he has no interest in living in Garrett’s shadow.
“I’m not here to fill anyone’s shoes,” Verse said. “Myles he’s a size 13, Nikes, whatever they are. I’m a size 13 and a half, size 14, Jordans. Like, everybody’s different.”
He added, “I’m not here to fill his shoes. That’s not my job, that’s not my description.”

49ers coach says rivals blockbuster trade felt like a gut punch
The Los Angeles Rams shocked the NFL world on Monday when they acquired two-time Defensive Player of the Year and seven-time All-Pro pass rusher Myles Garrett in a trade from the Cleveland Browns that sent three picks and Jared Verse back to the AFC North.
San Francisco 49ers offensive line coach Chris Foerster was among those stunned by the news, and he explained later on Tuesday why he's not happy about the deal.
"I said to Kyle (Shanahan), it's kind of a little gut punch, at first," Foerster said. "You feel like, 'Oh gosh.' Then you know, I woke up really early this morning, earlier than usual. I came in and just walked tape. I mean, he's an outstanding football player, and he's going to be a challenge for us to take care of. We had to play him last year. You got to do the best you can. Everybody has good players, and he's a great player. It's good for them, helps them. It will be a good challenge for us."
Foerster went on to confirm that the trade forced him to watch Garrett tape the next day.
"I sure did," Foerster said. "I just wanted to remind myself because it feels like it kind of came out of left field... You're sitting there saying, 'Oh, wow. What about this?' Then you remember him, but now we have in division. We'll play all of the time. He made a couple plays, and then you're like, 'Let me go back and look at the tape and see what it really was.'

Myles Garrett was added to the Commanders schedule earlier this week. The Cleveland Browns weren’t suddenly part of Washington’s slate. Garrett became one after being traded to the Los Angeles Rams in a blockbuster deal made official on Monday.
The Rams got Garrett. The Browns got young edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a conditional 2029 third-round pick.
That means Garrett will face the Commanders in a Week 9 matchup at Northwest Stadium. He almost exclusively lines up over the left tackle, creating an epic matchup with Washington’s Laremy Tunsil one of the best at his position.
There’s a mutual respect between these two **** ans, which Tunsil made clear in a recent podcast appearance on “Strong Talk” posted by Men’s Health Magazine.
“Myles Garrett is the best defensive player in the NFL,” Tunsil said. “I’ve been playing against Myles since he was a freshman in college and that had to be, like, (2014). We’ve been battling ever since. Every time we see each other, it’s respect. It’s a different type of lock in, because he doesn’t want to lose and I don’t want to lose. We play the Rams in (Week 9), so it’ll be another fun one.”

Rams' new defender makes four-word unretirement pitch to Aaron Donald originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Is it really all that surprising that unretirement rumors centered on former Los Angeles Rams superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald are running rampant?
Monday was an eventful day for Los Angeles, as the franchise made one of the biggest trades of the offseason thus far.
“Bombshell: The Browns are finalizing a trade that will send two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on X/Twitter.
“In exchange for Garrett, the Rams are expected to send Pro-Bowl edge Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, and other draft-pick compensation still being negotiated to the Browns (we now know that the Browns will also receive a 2028 second-round pick and 2029 third-round pick).”

The Philadelphia Eagles' trade sending A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots was just one of two blockbuster deals on Monday, June 1. However, the trades involving Brown and former Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett, who is heading to the Los Angeles Rams, feature two players whose tenures end in very different fashions.
Specifically, Brown's relationship with Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was a talking point throughout much of the past two NFL seasons, and the 28-year-old wide receiver addressed that topic during an honest conversation less than one day after the trade news broke.
Speaking with Maria Taylor on 7PM in Brooklyn, Brown was asked directly about Hurts and their relationship at the end of his tenure with the Eagles.
"Not as close as we once were," Brown said of his relationship with Hurts. "...There's no bad blood, there's actually still a lot of love. I love him to death, I want to see him accomplish all the things he want to accomplish. I didn't truly understand why our friendship became the center of everybody's attention when it came to football."
"People just got so fixated on the relationship and wanting to talk about the history... but that wasn't what this was. I have nothing but love for him...," Brown continued. "Nothing happened. People just grow apart, nothing happened between me and him, or our families, or our wives, anything. Life happens, you just look up sometimes and you find yourself drifting away."

The NFL landscape was shaken up considerably on June 1, as multiple blockbuster trades reshaped the league's power structure.
It started when the Los Angeles Rams acquired two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.
Garrett – who set an NFL record with 23 sacks in 2025 – will provide the Rams a big-time boost to an already great pass rush that ranked fifth in pressure rate last season, per the NFL's Next Gen Stats.
Before the Garrett trade, most sportsbooks viewed the Rams and the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks as the co-favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy following the 2026 NFL season. After it, the Rams are in the pole position as clear-cut favorites to win Super Bowl 61.
That said, the Rams weren't the only Super Bowl contender to bolster their roster. The reigning AFC champion New England Patriots also added a top-tier talent to their roster, acquiring three-time Pro Bowler A.J. Brown in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

There's still no reason to believe the Tennessee **** ans are interested in trading All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, but days like June 1 are reminders as to why the conversation comes up so frequently.
In a span of just a couple of hours, the Cleveland Browns traded defensive end Myles Garrett, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for three draft picks and Pro Bowl edge defender Jared Verse. Then the Philadelphia Eagles punctuated months of speculation by dealing Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots for a pair of picks.
Other than the timing, these trades don't have all that much in common. The Eagles are contenders who spent the entire offseason bracing for this deal by drafting and signing Brown's potential replacements. The Browns are in total tear-down mode but now have multiple first-round picks in the much-ballyhooed 2027 draft and one of the league's best young defenders as a cornerstone.
The state of the **** ans is somewhere between, though closer to Cleveland's than Philadelphia's. And that's fitting because Simmons' value, coming off a year where he was the NFL's unquestioned best and most productive interior defensive lineman, is somewhere, though a little closer Garrett's than Brown's.
In exchange for Garrett, who is 30, the Browns got from the Rams a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, a 2029 third-round pick and Verse, a 25-year-old two-time Pro Bowler who hasn't yet reached his prime.

It is easy to see why Cleveland Browns fans are among the most emotionally distraught in the NFL.
Myles Garrett, future NFL Hall of Famer, is the latest first round pick to leave town and head for Los Angeles. It brings up unresolved feelings from LeBron James leaving and to a lesser extent Odell Beckham Jr.
The other unresolved issue Garrett’s departure presents is what happens to the work he has done in the city including his minority ownership of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Shedeur Sanders negotiated $9.24 million of $17.7m NFLPA royalty payment while with Colorado Buffs football originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders recently cashed in on a $17.7 million royalty check from the NFL Players **** ociation for his rookie season in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns.
As Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio relayed, a large portion of that payment was negotiated while he was still a member of the Buffs, and before he slipped from being a projected first-round pick to an eventual fifth-round draft slide in 2025. Mainly, on trading card NIL. In addition, Florio foresees another big payment after Sanders recently switched his jersey number to the No. 2 he wore in Boulder as he broke several CU records under center.
“Most player royalty through the NFLPA come from group licensing deals, which compensate players for jersey sales, trading cards, video games, and other collectibles. As one source suggested, the $9.24 million payment to Sanders in May 2025 may have reflected his individual trading-card guarantee — something that likely would have been negotiated before he slipped from round one to round five in the 2025 draft,” Florio wrote.
“Sanders could have a large payment in next year’s LM-2, too. In March, Sanders changed his number from 12 to 2; any jerseys that fueled his royalty payments for his first NFL season will need to be replaced.”

30 former Ohio State football players join Strauss abuse lawsuits
Thirty former Ohio State University football players, including ex-team captains and NFL veterans, have come forward to join legal efforts against the university over **** ual abuse by former OSU doctor Richard Strauss. The former players have signed engagement letters to join class action lawsuits, according to Michael DiSabato, a spokesman for the plaintiffs.
The new group of plaintiffs includes three members of the 1980 Rose Bowl team: Ray Ellis, Al Washington, and Keith Ferguson, all of whom played for coach Woody Hayes and went on to play some time in the NFL.

Why Browns most improved position isnt OL despite 5 new starters
Why Browns most improved position isn't OL despite 5 new starters originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Cleveland Browns came into the 2026 NFL offseason with a few very clear needs for their roster, with the offensive line and the wide receiver rooms as clear needs this offseason.
After free agency and the NFL Draft, the Browns found a way to completely address both spots. They added two receivers and five new starting offensive linemen with a few more depth pieces as well.
However, ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi believes the Browns' most-improved position from this past offseason isn't the OL, but rather the WR room.
"The Browns didn't make a major receiver signing in free agency but double-dipped in the draft, selecting two wideouts with top 40 picks," Oyefusi writes.

Myles Garrett Browns rumors: NFL Insider says 3rd option ‘more likely’ than trade
In many ways, the NFL used to have a little more rigid timelines for when things happen. Not officially, the schedule allows for moves from the start of the NFL calendar to the trade deadline and then the end of the season. It just used to be that teams would make most of their major moves, whether that was in NFL free agency or trades, shortly after the league year opened.

Earlier this week, Robert Griffin III, a former NFL quarterback from 2012 to 2020 (Redskins, Browns and Ravens), posted on X about why BYU had earned its place in the College Football Playoff. Punctuating his remarks, he said at the end: “Stop the persecution of the Christians, man ... come on!”
His commentary became a social media magnet for naysayers ready to recap their theological reasons for objecting to the label. But Robert Griffin III (often called RG3 for short), has heard this pushback before.

Fifth-round rookie Shedeur Sanders made his highly anticipated NFL debut in Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Ravens after starter Dillon Gabriel left the game at halftime due to a concussion.
Sanders struggled mightily, completing 4 of 16 passes for 47 yards and an interception. The Browns were outscored 13-0 in the second half against a Ravens team now on a four-game winning streak.
It was one of the worst quarterback debuts in recent memory (minimum 15 passes for the notes below):
