This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with retired 8-time Pro Bowl defensive back Patrick Peterson.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Peterson, who participated in this year's American Century Championship, held at Edgewood Tahoe and aired on NBC and Peacock, discussed Arizona Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love's chances of excelling in his rookie season ahead of the Week 11 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.
"I like the pick because they have a receiver; there wasn't a quarterback there that they felt they could get them over the hump right now. Jacoby Brissett was a salvageable quarterback due to the absence of Kyler Murray; they had pretty much everything they wanted on the offensive side of the ball," said Peterson. "Still, they felt like they were missing that home run hitter, that other piece, and that was Jeremiyah Love. I love the pick. My only thing would be, how much are they going to put on his plate?"
The Chiefs will host the Cardinals in Week 11 this season and get an opposing look at Love, the third overall draft pick out of Notre Dame. In 2025, Love rushed 199 times for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. He also tallied 27 receptions for 280 yards and three receiving touchdowns, earning finalist status for the Heisman Trophy.
"I know Coach Mike LaFleur is coming from the (Los Angeles) Rams, they have a lot of nuances in their offense to get their playmakers involved in the ball game, but you also gotta think about the Arizona Cardinals, were the fifth pick for a reason, they have a lot of holes in that team, offensive linemen, protecting the quarterback and being able to open lanes for him, you have a quarterback issue," said Peterson, "If your quarterback is not good enough to be able to loosen up defenses, how you expect a rookie running back to be explosive, he definitely has a lot of ups and downs, a lot of challenges that he's facing right now, but he is a home run here; he's a great player, and I'm not upset at all with the pick. Now, Arizona is going to have to do a great job of putting the pieces around him so that he can be successful."

The Arizona Cardinals, after a day off on Monday, were back at practice at State Farm Stadium on Tuesday. The pads went on and quarterback Jacoby Brissett took over first-team reps with the offense.
What happened on Tuesday?
While Paris Johnson has been activated, there is nothing new with the other three players. Josh Sweat, Garrett Williams and Tip Reiman still haven't been cleared to practice.
Harrison had some injury issues on Sunday. It appeared he might have had back and ankle issues. However, head coach Mike LaFleur said that he was cramping.
According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, Harrison had a couple of drops. Per Cardinals.com's Darren Urban, "he found himself wide open about five times in the heart of the defense, Brissett delivering the ball each time. When the Cardinals were running 13 personnel, Harrison was the wideout with the three tight ends."

The Arizona Cardinals began training camp this week, and all eyes were on whether or not quarterback Jacoby Brissett would show.Â
Brissett is in the midst of a contract dispute with the Cardinals, and did not participate in OTA’s earlier this offseason. After finishing the 2025 season as the starter, he’s hoping to finally get paid like one, but the two sides have been unable to come to an agreement just yet.Â
Still, when asked about the situation, head coach Mike LaFleur remained positive about the direction they were headed with their veteran signal caller.Â
“It’s been productive between us and his team, so it's still ongoing. But I’d say the word productive,” said LaFleur.Â
“Yeah, he’s here. He’s under contract, and it’s the first day of practice,” he added.Â

The Arizona Cardinals reported for training camp on Wednesday and had their first practice on Thursday, although it was not open to fans. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett got his first reps in the new offense, running back James Conner and Trey Benson, both of whom did not get work in the offseason program, participated in drills, and quarterback Gardner Minshew was with the first-team offense.
There was limited access, but there were some photos and videos of the first practice.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett is still angling for a new contract, but he won't be a holdout. Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur confirmed in a press conference on Thursday that Brissett will be practicing with the rest of the team.
"Still ongoing. It's been productive between us and his team," LaFleur said of negotiations on a potential extension.
Brissett is set to be the team's starting quarterback this fall, but is reportedly aiming for an extension that will pay him like one. As a result, the veteran QB skipped the Cardinals' offseason workouts and optional practices while conversations were ongoing.
At the time, LaFleur downplayed Brissett's decision to miss OTAs. Brissett later made it to mandatory minicamp in June; skipping that camp or full-team training camp, which started on Thursday, would have made him a holdout.
Under Brissett's current deal, the veteran QB is set to make $4.88 million in base salary, with $1.5 million guaranteed and $2 million in potential incentives, per Spotrac. That makes him one of the lowest-paid starting quarterbacks in the league by far — below even rookie Los Angeles Rams backup Ty Simpson in annual salary, per Over the Cap.

Jacoby Brissett is at Cardinals training camp and the quarterback is not staging a hold-in for the team's first practice.
Head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters that Brissett will participate in the team's first workout of the summer on Thursday. Brissett skipped the voluntary portion of the team's offseason program and did not participate after reporting to the team's mandatory minicamp last month.
Brissett is looking for a revised contract that better reflects his position as the team's likely starter at quarterback to kick off the season. There has been no agreement on a new deal at this point, but LaFleur said at his press conference that talks on that front have been "productive."
As long as things remain unresolved on the contract front, there would be a chance that Brissett makes a different decision regarding his practice plans but camp will open with the veteran taking reps along with his fellow quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Carson Beck.

He signed a two-year deal before the 2025 season for $12.5 million. The premise was that Brissett would be starting QB Kyler Murray’s backup. $6.25 million is a good haul to dress out, stand on the sideline, and hold the tablet for just 17 weeks out of the calendar year.

Of course Murray's veteran's minimum salary is a great financial deal for the Vikings. He's making $1.3 million, the same as a backup linebacker who contributes on special teams or swing offensive tackle. A cheap salary alone doesn't mean Murray will bring the Vikings back to the playoffs.
Murray has played a lot of football. He has logged 87 career games. Terrell Davis had a Hall of Fame career and played just 78. And Murray has never truly broken out. His 92.2 career passer rating puts him in the middle of the pack of current NFL quarterbacks. The Cardinals made the playoffs one time with Murray and got blown out in their only postseason game.
This offseason, the woebegone Cardinals decided they'd rather have Jacoby Brissett as their quarterback and pay a dead cap hit of $54.7 million to simply be done with Murray. Does that sound like a savior? Murray has consistently shown that his level is average, and that's over a sample size of seven NFL seasons.

One of his Cardinals teammates appears to have made a real statement about the situation on social media.
Safety Budda Baker, seemingly in support of Brissett, or perhaps some other teammate in contract talks, posted:
"Just want bro to get his (expletive) done… he is not asking for what you think. Bro is asking for below the bare minimum. Let’s just get it done!!!"
If it is about Brissett, it is interesting that Baker says that what is being asked is below the bare minimum. The last we heard about negotiations was that the Cardinals and Brissett were very far apart.

The NFC West division once again looks primed to have 3 Super Bowl contenders in the Seattle Seahawks (Super Bowl Champs), the San Francisco 49ers, and the Los Angeles Rams. The Arizona Cardinals are not quite there yet because of the horrendous defense they displayed last season, so the jury will still be out on them until something changes in the standings. But just like every other division in football, every team is optimistic at the start of camp and feels it has a reason to make some noise in 2026. Let's figure out why.

Kyler Murray struggled through the first five games in Arizona last year before suffering a Lisfranc foot sprain that sidelined him for the rest of the season. Even when he was on the field, Murray failed to finish inside the top 15 fantasy quarterbacks in any of his outings and watched as backup Jacoby Brissett helped Trey McBride and Michael Wilson reach career highs. Fortunately, Murray found an ideal landing spot with the Vikings.
In Minnesota, he'll benefit from an upgraded environment in terms of coaching and his supporting cast. When you pair Murray's rushing ability with Kevin O'Connell's past success with veteran passers, it will give the 28-year-old (turns 29 in August) an excellent chance to become a fantasy starter once again. Don't forget, Murray was a top-12 fantasy QB on a per game basis in each of his six seasons before the disappointing 2025 campaign. The Arizona Cardinals' offseason has been dominated for the last month by the story that quarterback Jacoby Brissett wants a new contract and that he was holding out of the voluntary part of the offseason program to get a new deal. After going 1-11 in 12 starts, despite a career high in passing yards and passing touchdowns, and the career seasons by receiver Michael Wilson and tight end Trey McBride, this holdout is an embarrassing look for all involved.
And it is all because the Cardinals made one big mistake.
The mistake?
They told Brissett that he was going to be their QB1 without a competition.
Brissett enters the final year of his two-year, $12.5 million contract with the Cardinals. He signed the deal expecting to be the backup quarterback to Kyler Murray. When Murray got hurt, Brissett took over and he started 12 games.

The Arizona Cardinals opened its mandatory veteran minicamp, which will run from June 8 to June 10. The minicamp will consist of practice sessions only on Tuesday and Wednesday. EDGE rusher Josh Sweat has made an appearance since not showing for any of the voluntary OTAs.
To date, ******* ody really knows why Sweat wasn’t showing up for the team activities.

QB Jacoby Brissett had been another holdout but has also reported. But Brissett’s absence is over his demand to have his contract restructured since he was named the starting quarterback and yet is being paid the #30 best salary in the league, basically still playing on a backup salary.
But with Sweat, it is unknown what his deal was.

At the bottom are the Cardinals. There’s no clear-cut long-term option at quarterback right now -- unless you consider third-round pick Carson Beck to be that -- and possible starter Jacoby Brissett remains at odds with the team over his contract. Throw in what was an underachieving defense last season, a conundrum in Marvin Harrison Jr. and a surprisingly old roster, along with playing in the gauntlet that is the NFC West, and you can begin to imagine the chore that new head coach Mike LaFleur faces in the desert.
It’s not a completely lost cause, however. If all that talent on defense comes together, Arizona could have a fairly competent unit, especially with a fierce group up front (depending on whether or not it trades Josh Sweat). The secondary also looks like it could be pretty good. Rookie RB Jeremiyah Love should give the offense a boost, Trey McBride is a certifiable stud, and it’s far too soon to give up on Harrison, who's still just 23 years old.
But with QB questions, offensive line concerns and an absolutely brutal schedule, this does not have the look of a team that’s a few pieces away from a ***** le run. Identifying the right quarterback this season or next offseason is a crucial goal for an organization that hasn’t been a serious contender for more than a decade.

Carson Beck delivers strong message after being overlooked in draft

Carson Beck fell to the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft in April before being selected by the Arizona Cardinals. And he thinks the other teams in the NFL made a serious mistake by passing him over.
When speaking with reporters during press availability at Cardinals facilities, Beck recently weighed in with his opinion on getting passed over in the first two rounds of the draft. And he delivered an impactful message to every team that skipped him over when addressing the snub.
“A lot of teams are going to regret passing on me," Beck said. "I’ve always believed I’m QB1 in this draft, and now I get the chance to prove it with the Cardinals. Super Bowl expectations start now. Some teams are gonna wish they trusted the tape more.”
Beck is coming off a season that saw him named a third-team All-ACC selection while helping lead the Miami (FL) Hurricanes to a College Football Playoff National Championship appearance, so, understandably, he feels a bit disrespected by falling to the third round of the draft.
If he's looking to prove his worth, the first step will be winning the starting job, as the news also broke on Thursday that the Cardinals have informed Jacoby Brissett he will be the starter next year, and Beck will be battling veteran Gardner Minshew for the backup role.
