Casemiro told Los Angeles Galaxy he "only wanted to play for them" the club's general manager Will Kuntz says, amid an investigation into his transfer to Inter Miami.
The Brazil midfielder, 34, joined Lionel Messi at Inter Miami on a free transfer from Manchester United in July, signing sadeal that runs to the end of the 2027 MLS campaign, with an option to extend until June 2029.
Casemiro scored an own goal in Miami's 2-2 draw with the Columbus Crew on Sunday as Messis returned to a vtion after the World Cup.
Kuntz, who oversees LA Galaxy's transfers, was speaking to the media after his side's goalless draw with Dallas when he was asked about Major League Soccer's review into Inter Miami's signing of Casemiro.
"It is true that Casemiro called and said that he always wanted to play for Inter Miami," Kuntz said. "It's also true that came two months after he told us that he only wanted to play for the Galaxy."

Zohran Mamdani stormed into office brandishing the banner of "affordability," and almost singlehandedly pushed the issue to the center of today's political debate. Of all the charismatic, 34-year-old Mayor's initiatives aimed at lowering living costs, the one that's garnered the most coverage is his proposal to get Gotham into the grocery business.
The city-owned food store initiative looks so radical, even for this avowed democratic socialist, because it puts a city in direct competition versus an immense, entrenched private industry. On his other big "affordability" initiatives, providing free bus service and freezing rent on one million apartments, Mamdani's simply using his regulatory and budget powers in the Democratic mayors' traditional vein of tightening price controls on housing and delivering more freebees
This one's different: It's extraordinarily rare for a municipality to challenge local businesses by starting its own enterprises that aim to do the same thing. The only major example: city-backed companies that battle the Verizons and Comcasts to supply broadband. They're all either struggling, or already flopped. Mamdani's predecessor Eric Adams shuttered the $2 billion fiber-optic buildout started a few years earlier under Mayor Bill de Blasio. As for supermarkets, Chicago last year killed plans for a city-owned emporium as impractical. Kansas City, apparently the only major metro ever to open a taxpayer-funded supermarket, ended the failed foray in early 2025.
Hence, Mamdani's plan would probably reign as the biggest push any city's ever made to launch its own business amid a galaxy of private players. The Mayor's identified a big problem. New Yorkers indeed suffer from extremely high prices for everything from chicken to eggs to milk. The city's riddled with "food desert" neighborhoods where residents often can't find much other than processed items nearby, and must travel 20 minutes or more to reach outlets that offer wide choices of fresh foods at low cost.
But that drastic shortage in the metro that ranks among the world's wealthiest is almost totally self-inflicted. Contrary to Mamdani's claim that "the private market alone has not delivered affordable, full-service grocery options," here's the real rub: A web of antiquated regulations—and one in particular that effectively bans big stores where they're needed most—is blocking major chains from deploying billions of their own capital to open far more of the kinds of giant extravaganzas featuring baseball-field length stretches of checkout lanes that bring far lower stickers to the suburbs just beyond Gotham's borders.

SAO PAULO (AP) — Inter Porto Alegre defender Víctor Gabriel has been suspended from Brazilian soccer until Cruzeiro forward Gabriel Pec returns to training following recovery from a broken leg.
The sanction was handed down Tuesday by Brazil's Superior Court of Sports Justice, the country's highest independent body for sports discipline.
The court deemed a standard penalty insufficient given the severity of the incident. Pec suffered a left tibia fracture in a challenge from Víctor Gabriel in a league game on July 22.
While the court's suspension is capped at 180 days, it could end sooner if Pec is medically cleared to return to practice ahead of that time. The decision can be appealed.
Víctor Gabriel told the court he had no intention of causing injury to Pec, who played for LA Galaxy in the MLS before joining Cruzeiro for a club-record fee of at least $12 million during the World Cup break.

Caitlin Clark is facing criticism after the WNBA star made pointed statements regarding media narratives amid the negativity she and her fellow athletes face.
The Indiana Fever guard, 24, has "room for a little bit more accountability" when it comes to online scrutiny against female players in the league, Monica McNutt said during the network's live broadcast on Sunday, July 26, per People.
"This is what I will say: Caitlin Clark is 24, she is a shining star in the galaxy of the WNBA, but I do think that as she continues to matriculate through this league, there's room for a little bit more accountability and self awareness in terms of her role in the larger sisterhood, if she sees it that way, in the WNBA," McNutt continued during the ESPN broadcast.

McNutt's comments come on the heels of Clark, 24, speaking with journalist Malika Andrews in an interview during WNBA All-Star Weekend, in which she admitted, "I think there's like a false characterization of who I am sometimes."

Major League Soccer (MLS) is set to investigate the circumstances surrounding Casemiro's high-profile move to Inter Miami.
Miami officially unveiled the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder on Wednesday after he signed a two-year deal. The contract also includes an option to extend his stay until 2029.
However, the excitement around the signing has been overshadowed by an MLS investigation into an alleged tampering issue involving the acquisition of the Brazilian midfielder.
Under MLS rules, clubs can place players on a discovery list, giving them the first opportunity to negotiate with those players and preventing rival teams from pursuing them without first reaching an agreement.
LA Galaxy reportedly held Casemiro's discovery rights before Miami secured them in a deal believed to be worth around £750,000.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has completed his transfer to Inter Miami – but the deal is now being investigated by Major League Soccer (MLS) amid claims of tampering.
The 34-year-old Brazil international, who was a free agent following the conclusion of his contract at Old Trafford last season, joins the Major League Soccer club on a deal that runs until the end of the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.
The agreement includes an option to extend his stay until June 2029, pending visa approval.
Casemiro's discovery rights were held by LA Galaxy, and by league rule that would have prevented Inter Miami from negotiating with him.
The teams reached a settlement that allowed Inter Miami to get the long-awaited signing done, but the league is still probing the tampering allegation.

Inter Miami tampering investigation, explained: Why signing of former United star Casemiro raised red flags originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
On the heels of the 2026 World Cup, club soccer seasons are getting back into full swing. Brazilian and former Manchester United midfielder Casemiro's move to Inter Miami is being investigated by the MLS for tampering.
The American soccer league has a system in place, called discovery rights, in which a player joining the MLS from another league can only negotiate with a club that has the player's rights. If a club signs a player without those discovery rights, it is required to make a payment and officially acquire their rights.
While Casemiro was signed as a free transfer, Miami will likely have to pay an additional fee for signing the Brazilian because the LA Galaxy had his discovery rights.
Here's the rundown on why Inter Miami's latest signing is being investigated by the MLS.

MIAMI (AP) — Inter Miami announced the signing of Brazil midfielder and five-time Champions League winner Casemiro on Wednesday, and Major League Soccer is now investigating whether the reigning league champion engaged in tampering to get that deal done.

Forward Kyogo Furuhashi has departed Birmingham City "a cult figure", believes BBC Radio WM's Richard Wilford.
The ******* an international has joined LA Galaxy after just one season at St Andrew's, in which he scored only three goals in 31 appearances.
Furuhashi arrived with high expectations, with the 31-year-old impressing during a three-and-a-half season stint at Celtic, leading some fans speculating on where it went wrong during his move to the Championship.
Among those theories was the impact of a shoulder injury he had picked up at the end of his Celtic spell, but Wilford is not so sure it played a role.
"I'm not sure, particularly the way he plays, that it [the shoulder injury] would have impeded him too much," Wilford said.

The NBA's investigation into Kawhi Leonard's deal with Aspiration keeps dragging on, but a new discovery shows the bizarre extent of the situation.
As the Clippers, Raptors, and Leonard await a decision from the NBA over the matter to continue their offseason business, more details of the alleged 'no-show' sponsorship deal are emerging.
A new detail is that Aspiration's marketing team went out of their way to find a way to integrate Leonard into a marketing campaign for their tree-growing initiatives.
The Athletic has revealed that Aspiration's employees presumed Leonard would feature in a marketing campaign after signing on to a $20 million endorsement deal. As a result, they came up with a campaign that made Leonard seem like Groot from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
"The efforts went so far as to create images, reviewed by The Athletic, of Leonard as an offshoot of Marvel's Groot – Aspiration's purpose was a promise to plant trees to offset carbon footprints."

Gabriel Pec finalized his transfer to Cruzeiro after three seasons with LA Galaxy, leaving as one of MLS's most productive wingers with nearly 70 goal contributions in 101 games. The Brazilian winger departs as a 2024 MLS Cup champion, MLS Best XI selection, and the league's Newcomer of the Year.
Pec arrived at LA Galaxy in January 2024 as the club's most expensive signing at that time, costing around $10 million from Vasco. His immediate impact exceeded all projections, transforming the Galaxy's attack and helping restore the club among MLS's elite after years of instability.
The 2024 campaign established Pec among MLS's offensive elite. In 33 regular season games, he scored 16 goals and provided 14 ***** ists for 30 direct goal contributions. Across all competitions, he finished with 17 goals and 16 ***** ists, numbers that placed him among the continent's most productive players.
Pec became the youngest player in MLS history to reach at least 15 goals and 10 ***** ists in a single season (excluding the shootout era). Only Lionel Messi matched his combination of high goal and ***** ist totals in 2024, with the two dominating the league's offensive production statistics from wide positions.
The Galaxy maximized Pec's existing strengths rather than transforming his game. At Vasco in 2023, he showed flashes as a vertical, physically strong winger excellent in transitions, but often operated in isolation with limited support. The Galaxy's high-pressing, offensive system created completely different conditions.

LAS VEGAS — Oh yes, the art of the buzzkill.
For a minute there, when the lights went down in Las Vegas, and the fascia ring lit up with the familiar Irish colors at the T-Mobile Arena, everyone stood on their feet to catch a glimpse of Conor McGregor making his way to the Octagon. You can say what you want about McGregor's many inconvenient truths, the hysteria of his fight nights is next to a religious experience in the game.
If there was a snake, it would've been passed around.
In a conversation with Marc Ratner, the UFC's Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, he mentioned being there for Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns back in the 1980s when he headed up the Nevada Athletic Commission. He understood a big-fight feel, is what he was saying, looking around at the atmosphere Saturday at UFC 329.
One group of fans, while walking from New York, New York Hotel to the arena, were singing Bowie's "Five Years" because, well, that's how long it had been. Five years. A lot has happened. Lifetimes. Rosenblatt Securities **** yst Chris Brendler thinks the recent selloff in HPC-linked stocks was overdone, nodding his head to two former Bitcoin miners making the pivot into AI Galaxy Digital (NASDAQ: GLXY) and Cipher Digital (NASDAQ: CIFR).
GLXY had fallen 22% over the prior two weeks while CIFR dropped 13%, at time of the notes publication on July 2. As of press time, GLXY and CIFR are down on the day, trading hands at $25.14 and $20.98 respectively.
The selloff intensified after Bloomberg reported on July 1 that Meta Platforms was building a cloud operation aimed at outside customers, with AI compute capacity and models part of the plan. The move raised concern that Meta could become a competitor in the neocloud stack alongside its role as a customer. CoreWeave-linked names bore the brunt of the selling, with CoreWeave itself falling nearly 14% that day.
Brendler dismissed the fear. "We view this reaction as overdone," he wrote, adding that the firm does not view the Meta news "as a negative demand signal." He pointed to Rosenblatt colleague John McPeake's **** sment that the Meta story appeared company-specific, driven by the social media giant's need to justify large capital expenditure, with no indication of a shift in contracted demand.
