Joey McGuire is optimistic the Texas Tech football team will have more weapons on the field of Galaxy Stadium for the Red Raiders' showdown against Houston.
Safety Brenden Jordan has wrapped his two-game suspension for a violation of team rules and will return to action on Friday night. As for a pair of injured starters, that's up to how the short week of preparation goes.
Outside linebacker Trey White (back) has missed the first two games of the season while tight end Terrance Carter Jr. was in a boot before the game and missed Texas Tech's 35-24 win over Oregon State.

TORRINGTON - Watching Nick Coleman and Kevin Leavitt run the ball for the Torrington football team in Friday night's season-opening 21-0 win over Kennedy, you might think they've been sharing the Raiders' backfield duties for ages, rather than being just the latest stars to shine in Torrington's single-wing galaxy.
When Coleman ran the ball - which he did 21 times for 160 yards and three touchdowns - there was Leavitt out ahead throwing a crisp block. When Leavitt ran the ball - which he did for 58 yards on 11 carries - there was Coleman doing the same.
They complemented each other as naturally as peanut **** er and jelly, Damon and Affleck, or - as their coach notes - thunder and lightning.
"We embrace (blocking)," said Coleman, a senior. "Single-wing offense, that's what it's about. There's no player above blocking, even if you're the quarterback, the tailback, whatever. You've got to go and make a block."
"I'd do anything for (Coleman). If I have to make a block, I'm doing whatever I can for him," Leavitt, a sophomore, said.

Los Angeles, Calif. -- Two first-half goals set the LA Galaxy up for a 2-1 home win over the New England Revolution on Saturday, September 5th.
Striker Kyōgo Furuhashi was a handful throughout, and it was his good play that won that ball in the New England defensive third. The recent arrival to LA bore down on goal and was brought down for the penalty for the Galaxy's first real chance of the game.
Despite not scoring, the former ****** an international is becoming dangerous for the opposition in other ways.

Peyton Morgan went through pre-game warmups with the first team at free safety and Malik Esquerra at boundary safety before Tech's season opener against Abilene Christian at Galaxy Stadium. Those two and Oliver Miles III had been competing for one open safety job throughout the off-season.

In July, Texas Tech announced a 15-year agreement with Galaxy, a data center infrastructure company, to rename Jones AT&T Stadium to Galaxy Stadium.
The former name honored the school's third president, Clifford B. Jones, who donated $100,000 to help fund the construction of the stadium in 1947.
"It goes without saying college athletics continues to evolve," Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt told Sports Business Journal. "I look at that as a very exciting opportunity and challenge to reinvent athletic administration, college athletics and how we continue to build toward a commercial media type of organization."

SAN DIEGO -- For a few minutes, it looked like Hirving Lozano's return to Snapdragon Stadium might turn into the kind of night the LA Galaxy had been waiting for.
Lozano had spent nearly 10 months away from competitive action, and San Diego made sure he knew exactly how it felt to come back.
He was booed the first time he touched the ball and was fouled repeatedly as the match grew more physical. Then, after San Diego went down a man early in the second half, Lozano finally found his moment.
A loose ball bounced around the penalty area before falling to Lozano, who made no mistake from close range. He celebrated in front of the Galaxy supporters who had made the trip, embracing the moment in a stadium where his return carried plenty of weight.

Last week, Good Good Golf released an ad spot for its co-branded Callaway driver. In it, Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark tackles a woman who dared reach for his driver, stands over her, and says, "Do not touch my new driver."
After swift and intense backlash, the ad was deleted, but not before several people preserved it on the internet.
"We posted a video to our channels that ultimately depicted actions that are not aligned with our values as a brand," Good Good Golf, a YouTube phenomenon-turned brand, said in an official statement posted Saturday. "We have since taken that content down, and sincerely apologize. Good Good has always stood for making the game of golf more inclusive to all, and we will continue to ensure that is our mission moving forward."
Callaway Golf CEO Chip Brewer and Good Good CEO Matt Kendrick also released separate statements, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Those statements did not stop the avalanche. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp condemned the ad and Good Good's "disappointing" and "defensive" response. Zohran Mamdani stormed into office brandishing the banner of "affordability," and almost singlehandedly pushed the issue to the center of today's political debate. Of all the charismatic, 34-year-old Mayor's initiatives aimed at lowering living costs, the one that's garnered the most coverage is his proposal to get Gotham into the grocery business.
The city-owned food store initiative looks so radical, even for this avowed democratic socialist, because it puts a city in direct competition versus an immense, entrenched private industry. On his other big "affordability" initiatives, providing free bus service and freezing rent on one million apartments, Mamdani's simply using his regulatory and budget powers in the Democratic mayors' traditional vein of tightening price controls on housing and delivering more freebees
This one's different: It's extraordinarily rare for a municipality to challenge local businesses by starting its own enterprises that aim to do the same thing. The only major example: city-backed companies that battle the Verizons and Comcasts to supply broadband. They're all either struggling, or already flopped. Mamdani's predecessor Eric Adams shuttered the $2 billion fiber-optic buildout started a few years earlier under Mayor Bill de Blasio. As for supermarkets, Chicago last year killed plans for a city-owned emporium as impractical. Kansas City, apparently the only major metro ever to open a taxpayer-funded supermarket, ended the failed foray in early 2025.
Hence, Mamdani's plan would probably reign as the biggest push any city's ever made to launch its own business amid a galaxy of private players. The Mayor's identified a big problem. New Yorkers indeed suffer from extremely high prices for everything from chicken to eggs to milk. The city's riddled with "food desert" neighborhoods where residents often can't find much other than processed items nearby, and must travel 20 minutes or more to reach outlets that offer wide choices of fresh foods at low cost.
But that drastic shortage in the metro that ranks among the world's wealthiest is almost totally self-inflicted. Contrary to Mamdani's claim that "the private market alone has not delivered affordable, full-service grocery options," here's the real rub: A web of antiquated regulations—and one in particular that effectively bans big stores where they're needed most—is blocking major chains from deploying billions of their own capital to open far more of the kinds of giant extravaganzas featuring baseball-field length stretches of checkout lanes that bring far lower stickers to the suburbs just beyond Gotham's borders.
