Peyton Watson is nearing a big payday after his breakout season. The Denver Nuggets are offering the UCLA product a five-year, $70 million deal, according to The Athletic's Tony Jones.
It's a tricky financial situation for Denver, which recently matched the Oklahoma City Thunder's two-year, $12 million offer sheet for sharpshooter Spencer Jones. The Jones move brought the Nuggets into the second apron, so they'll reportedly have to do some roster shuffling to be able to extend Watson.
If Watson and the Nuggets can't make it work, he'll have plenty of suitors. The only holdup is apparently the Nuggets' asking price. Denver is reportedly requesting two first-round picks in exchange for Watson, who took a massive leap in Year 4 but is still relatively unproven.
Watson averaged 14.6 points and 4.9 rebounds while shooting 41.1% from 3 last season. The 23-year-old has steadily improved each year, becoming a trusted NBA role player after hardly playing as a freshman at UCLA in 2021-22.
The Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly expressed interest in a sign-and-trade for Watson. Los Angeles has long been a rumored destination for the 6-foot-8 guard, as the Clippers are undergoing somewhat of a youth movement following Kawhi Leonard's (likely) departure.

Officials across Europe have restated the need to use VAR only to change "blatantly incorrect" decisions and address clear missed incidents.
UEFA convened referee chiefs from all 55 national ****** ociations last week along with representatives from the International Football ****** ociation Board (IFAB), which sets the game's laws, in a bid to reach a consensus on the best approach to officiating.
There was "unanimous" support for further measures to speed up restarts, such as the time limits on substitutions and five-second countdowns for goal kicks and throw-ins.
However, arguably the most significant statement was a restating of VAR's original purpose.
"VAR must only intervene in situations of 'clear and obvious' error, i.e. when a referee decision is blatantly incorrect or when the referee has missed a clear incident," a UEFA release stated.

Real Madrid are hoping to complete a blockbuster double transfer in the next few days, as they aim to finalise Jose Mourinho's squad ahead of the 2026-27 La Liga season getting underway in a few weeks' time. A deal for Yan Diomande in close, and following him to the Bernabeu could be Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri.
In recent weeks, Real Madrid have turned their attention back to Rodri. They were priced out of a move for leading target Enzo Fernandez, but that could work in their favour as they are closing in on signing one of the world's best midfielders, as well as the recipient of the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball.
Previously, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had ruled out signing Rodri as retribution for election rival Enrique Riquelme promising to bring the 30-year-old to the Bernabeu, but he's since changed his tune. As per Ramon Alvarez de Mon, he's gave the go-ahead last week for a move to be made for the Man City man, who should be available on a cut-price deal due to being in the final 12 months of his current contract.
Real Madrid believe that a deal can be done imminently, although they may need to raise their offer if they are to convince Man City to sell this summer. Despite already having an agreement on personal terms in place with the former Atletico Madrid and Villarreal midfielder, they have been quoted €80m to get a deal done now, whereas they are presently only willing to pay €50-60m.
It will be interesting to see how the Rodri situation develops over the coming weeks. Real Madrid will hope that Man City relax their stance sooner rather than later, knowing that they are unlikely to be able to agree a new contract with the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner.

When he was at UCF, Fall, at 7-6 and around 300 lbs, was a huge pain in the paint. Duke learned about this in the 2019 NCAA tournament, when Central Florida nearly knocked the Blue Devils out.
Victor Wembanyama changed this expectation a bit. At 7-4, maybe 7-5, Wembanyama is a brilliant shot blocker, but also an excellent ball handler for his height, and he shoots very well from behind the line as well.
He's the new standard for very, very tall guys who have game.
Now, there's another kid on the horizon from Australia. His name is Jongkuch Mach. He's 18 and 7-6. He's being compared to Wemby, but he's not there yet.

WSL Football have announced changes to the League Cup for the 2026/27 season.
The competition was previously known as The Subway Women's League Cup with a regional group stage before knock out games began with teams competing in the Champions League only entering for that phase.
After Subway renewed its sponsorship of the tournament it will now be known as The Subway Players Cup and it has undergone a change of format to a Swiss-style system but will not include any teams competing in the Champions League.
The initial League Phase of the new format will see all 23 clubs compete in a unified league table with teams playing six fixtures in a regionalised section – three home and three away.
As before, draws will go to a penalty shoot-out where the winner of that will earn an extra point.

The Brandon Aiyuk saga has gone on for far too long. A contract dispute that eventually landed in his favor hasn't gone swimmingly for the San Francisco 49ers. Tearing his ACL and MCL just seven games into that deal, he hasn't been around the franchise since.
Last year, they placed him on the PUP list. From there, they voided his guaranteed money for 2026 and added him to the reserve/left squad list. Since then, it's been all downhill for the former first-round pick who remains employed with the team.
While he remained quiet for most of his time away from the 49ers, that trend has changed in recent months. Making multiple videos on social media, Aiyuk has gone on lengthy tirades against the organization.
Calling out everyone, from the coaching staff to the general manager, the former All-Pro selection has left no stone unturned. But while he has made his desire to play for the Washington Commanders abundantly clear, it hasn't led to major changes.

For nearly two decades, John Harbaugh defined Baltimore Ravens football. His teams were disciplined, physical and consistently among the NFL's playoff contenders. Players came and went, coordinators accepted promotions elsewhere and rosters evolved, but Harbaugh remained the constant that tied every season together.
That chapter has closed. As the Ravens report for training camp, the organization begins navigating unfamiliar territory. A new coaching staff inherits one of the NFL's most talented rosters, but replacing a respected culture builder is never as simple as changing the name on the office door.
The Ravens enter this summer with a chance to establish a new identity while preserving the standards that made them one of football's model franchises. Coaching changes often coincide with rebuilding projects. That isn't the case in Baltimore.
The Ravens still possess one of the league's premier quarterbacks in Lamar Jackson, an offense capable of challenging any defense and a defense talented enough to help fuel an AFC North ***** le. Expectations haven't changed simply because leadership has.
The new coaching staff isn't being asked to build a contender from scratch. It's being asked to sustain one.

Global equities ended last week little changed in local currency and up 0.6% in sterling terms. This continued the choppy pattern of recent weeks with markets currently down 1.5-2% from their peak in early June. The US underperformed with a gain of 0.3% in sterling terms while the UK and emerging markets were both up around 1.3%.
Meanwhile, government bonds in the US and UK both lost 0.5% with yields re-testing their highs in early May. 10-year UK gilt yields tested 5.1% while US yields reached 4.7%, before retreating a bit.
The war with Iran was centre stage with renewed attacks by both sides and Trump once again upping his threats. The new ingredient this time was that concerns were not limited to the Strait of Hormuz but extended to the Bab El Mandeb Strait with the Houthis exchanging blows with Saudi Arabia and threatening to close the waterway.
The importance of this new chokepoint is two-fold. First, it threatens Saudi's ability to divert via its pipeline a good part of its oil production to the Red Sea rather than the Strait of Hormuz. Second, it poses a threat to container traffic more generally which use the Suez Canal to avoid a long and costly diversion around the African coast.
Oil duly moved back up to $100 per barrel mid-week from a low of close to $70pb all of three weeks ago. But it is back down to $88pb this morning as negotiations between the US and Iran started up once again over the weekend, easing fears of a major escalation. However, this morning, Iran said it is not seeking new peace talks, so the confusion continues.
Even so, the fact remains that Trump appears to have chickened out yet again – be it because the hike in oil prices has pushed US gasoline prices back above $4 per gallon, the rise in US Treasury yields has caused concerns or because, as has been reported, the US lacks the necessary munitions.

The India UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement became operational on 15 July. That is good news for businesses in both countries. It is also the moment to stop treating tariff reduction as a synonym for market access, especially in pharmaceuticals, medical technology and digital health.
Medicines and devices do not move from factory to patient through one gate. They move through at least five. A product must qualify for the tariff preference under the rules of origin. It must have the right approval in the destination market. Its manufacturing and quality evidence must withstand inspection. It must meet the terms of any public procurement. Its people, systems and data must be able to operate lawfully across borders.
The agreement changes some of these gates. It does not collapse them.
The Indian schedule places 198 of 226 pharmaceutical tariff lines in immediate staging, four already at zero, with the rest phased over five or ten years. Medical technology receives a more mixed pattern of phased elimination and partial reduction. These preferences matter, but only for products that satisfy the product specific origin rule.

That was going to take making over a locker room last year that needed to not only help establish a shift in expectations and results, but also do what is needed to change perspective and performance.
Enter John Harbaugh, who wants to build the Giants into a bully in NFC East, and for that to happen, the tone will be set in camp at the Greenbrier in West Virginia when they hit the practice fields beginning Wednesday.
Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo represented that change in attitude last season in a Thursday night upset of the Eagles, breaking free of the old ***** oned-down Giants way that had gotten stale with all the losing around here for more than a decade.

Max Eberl and Bayern Munich have been busy in the summer transfer window through the FIFA World Cup season. The debate surrounding Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's ODI future refuses to die down despite both continuing to deliver for India. While neither head coach Gautam Gambhir nor chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar has publicly committed to their participation in the 2027 World Cup, keeping the speculation around their future alive.

India's recent 1-2 ODI series defeat against England only added fuel to the conversation. Rohit silenced critics with a match-winning century in the series finale, registering his 34th ODI hundred amid speculation that the Lord's fixture could be his final international appearance. Kohli, meanwhile, chipped in with two half-centuries during the series after both senior batters struggled in the opening match.

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta believes there is no need to question Rohit and Kohli's places in the side, but stressed that both must make an immediate impact whenever a series begins instead of taking time to settle.

"That has to be a conversation with everyone, not just them (Kohli and Rohit), that they have to start the series well and hit the ground running. That is a challenge. The group claimed the blockade was a direct retaliation for a decade-long Saudi containment of Yemen as well as a recent Saudi-backed airstrike targeting Sanaa International Airport.
The threat immediately rattled oil markets, prompting multiple Saudi-linked very large crude carriers (VLCCs) to abandon planned transits through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and instead reroute around Africa's Cape of Good Hope, adding up to two weeks to each voyage. Two days later, the Houthis followed through. The group launched ballistic missiles and drones at two Saudi oil tankers on Thursday, damaging both vessels and igniting fires onboard. Brent crude surged nearly $20 per barrel, briefly climbing above $100.

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Farokh Engineer believes teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already done enough to earn an ODI call-up and wants the 15-year-old to open alongside Rohit Sharma ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

Engineer feels India should reshuffle their batting order by moving Shubman Gill to No. 4, allowing Sooryavanshi to partner Rohit at the top while Virat Kohli slots in at No. 3.

"The ideal situation is Shubman Gill and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Gill is a class player. Gill, I think, is the best batsman in the team now. So, Gill should come at four," Engineer told PTI.

"Gill is not a guy who lifts the ball. So, a left-right combination would be ideal in ODIs. So, if Rohit is playing, and I think he should be playing, let him open with Sooryavanshi.

"A batsman like him (Sooryavanshi) is much better at opening because he finds bigger gaps in the field. Virat Kohli can come third. Gill can come fourth and then we've got a solid batting line-up," he said.

Engineer's remarks come after Sooryavanshi enjoyed a breakthrough T20I series against Zimbabwe. The youngster finished as the leading run-scorer with 151 runs, including two half-centuries, and was named Player of the Series as India completed a 3-0 clean sweep.

According to Engineer, those performances are enough to fast-track the teenager into India's 50-over plans.

"This is probably the right time to draft Sooryavanshi into India's ODI side. I don't know why people distinguish so much between ODI and T20 because for me, a half-volley is a half-volley. He's been getting runs and he's got the confidence to open the innings.

"He'll win more matches for you than lose you. When he gives a start like that, the other players can have time to consolidate the innings and put on a big score," Engineer noted.

While Sooryavanshi struggled during India's T20I tour of England earlier this month, the Zimbabwe series showcased his ability to adapt. He produced a measured 81 off 49 ***** in the final T20I on a slow Harare surface after blasting a rapid half-century in the series opener.

The teenager has also shown areas that still require improvement, including handling short-pitched bowling, adapting quickly to overseas conditions and refining his shot selection. However, Engineer urged India not to overburden the youngster with technical changes, insisting his natural game is what makes him special.

"Anything which is slightly short of length, in Sooryavanshi's curve, is going to go for a six. He learned from his mistakes, he has learned to curb himself. But don't try to over-coach him. He's not from the MCC book of manual, which is completely out of date.

The pressure is on the Bengals' 2025 first-round draft pick after a disappointing rookie season, which was doomed from the get-go when Stewart made a boneheaded decision to hold out over language in his contract. Stewart was already a risky, boom-or-bust pick that many teams passed on, because of his inability to consistently get to the quarterback in college. Now it's time to find out if the Bengals are going to get any production out of him – or whether player personnel director Duke Tobin whiffed on another defensive pick.
Stewart is a major x-factor on an overhauled defensive line, because his performance this season will determine if the Bengals have to spend more money or draft capital on edge rusher again next year. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court on Monday to clear the way for an executive order from President Donald Trump that could dramatically change mail-in voting ahead of November's midterm elections.
The Justice Department asked the justices to halt for now lower court decisions blocking the sweeping changes in nearly half the country.
The request comes shortly after Trump delivered a primetime address elevating his yearslong push to raise doubts about the legitimacy of elections, and could be one of several voting-related challenges before the court ahead of the high-stakes midterm contest.
Trump ordered the government in March to create a "state citizenship list" of eligible voters and deliver mail ballots only to people on that list.
Democratic officials in 23 states and the District of Columbia sued, saying the Constitution gives states and Congress the authority to set election rules, not the president. Their attorneys have said Trump's proposed changes are ripe for abuse and could cause chaos.
