Colorado is five days away from opening its 2026 fall camp as the Buffaloes begin preparations for Deion Sanders' fourth season at the helm. The Buffs had a solid offseason despite many changes, including two new coordinators and 40-plus transfers, most with proven production, albeit at a non-Power Four level.
One of those players is Sacramento State transfer wide receiver Ernest Campbell. The speedy wideout is one of Pro Football Focus' highest-graded returning Big 12 wide receivers. He comes in ranked as the fifth-best returner with an 85.9 overall grade.
Campbell is coming off a breakout season at Sacramento State after being named to the FCS Central Freshman All-American Team. He led the Hornets with 37 receptions for 755 yards and eight touchdowns. The most impressive stat from his 2025 season is his average of 20.41 yards per reception. Campbell's explosivity is by far his best trait, and he should be the big-play threat in Brennan Marion's Go-Go offense, which he knows well. He had touchdowns of 75, 63,60, 57 and 50 yards.
Campbell unsurprisingly has a track background, competing collegiately at Texas A&M as a true freshman in 2024. He recorded a 10.02 100m time at the NCAA West First Round meet and was an honorable mention All-American, placing 22nd at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
Colorado is used to having wide receivers with speed, with players like LaJohntay Wester and Jimmy Horn Jr. adding a different dynamic during the 9-4 2024 season. CU is hoping Campbell can be that element this year and that it will lead to a similarly strong season.

The Clash is expected to have a new home in 2027. According to The Athletic's Jordan Bianchi, the Clash is expected to return to Daytona International Speedway after a six-year hiatus. After a two-year run at Bowman Gray Stadium, NASCAR will go back to Daytona for its opening exhibition event.
According to Bianchi, the Clash at Daytona is expected to be held on Saturday, February 13, 2027, which is one day before the Super Bowl and a week before the Daytona 500. The NASCAR insider also says a new sponsor is expected to partner with the Clash next season.
NASCAR should run the Clash at Daytona, as there is no better fit for the opening weekend of the season. While Bowman Gray and Los Angeles put on good shows, Daytona is where the Clash belongs. The 2027 NASCAR season isn't here yet, but excitement is already in the air about the possibility.

Nick Sanchez has earned more races with Peterson Racing Group in the NASCAR O'Reilly Series. Sanchez will drive the No. 87 car for Peterson Racing Group in the next five races during the 2026 O'Reilly Series season, as announced by the team. This comes after the former AM Racing driver's first batch of races with the organization.
Austin Green served as the full-time driver of the No. 87 car to start the 2026 NASCAR season, but Peterson Racing Group decided to give Sanchez a chance in its race cars. It has worked out well, as Sanchez came close to winning the O'Reilly Series race at EchoPark Speedway in July.

It's a whole new world when rookies enter the NFL, no matter the level they played in college.
Coaches know part of the teaching process is to get rookies able to contribute as quickly as possible, while also understanding there can be anxious moments wondering how practice work will translate to games when everything is on the line.
Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said last week that "when you first get the rookies, you know the rookies don't know what's going on."
Asked to expound on that and explain what that entails, he said, "Everything. Everything you can imagine. Coming to this league, just the speed is so different. Being in a new building a lot of the guys -- well I guess nowadays they might be in different rooms and different facilities because of all the transfers and stuff -- but most of the time they've been in one place for a while and now it's a whole new environment. New people to work with and definitely new playbooks that are very, very intricate due to all the things that we see."
Breaking it down to going against the defense in practice, Hackett said, "You get almost everything and more, which is great because it helps you for the season. But for a young player to have to be able to adjust and learn the basic system and then apply it to different defenses, it takes some time.

Shane Bieber melted down, which cost the Jays a chance to win but probably more importantly derailed a string of solid starts that had hopefully been pushing his trade value back up. Also, Vladimir Guerrero jr. left the game before the bottom of the fourth after legging out an infield single and throwing error in the third. It was later reported to be a right hamstring injury. So a good day all around.
We got a fun moment before the game as Louis Varland and his brother Gus, recently recalled from AAA by the Nationals, got to do the lineup card exchange.
There was an hour long rain delay before we could get going tonight. Cade Cavalli didn't look bothered, but it looked like the delay really threw Shane Bieber. He couldn't get any of his pitches across, missing badly all over the plate. After the Jays were retired in the first with just a Nathan Lukes single erased by a Vladimir Guerrero jr. double play ball, Bieber walked two the first three Washington hitters. Then CJ Abrams reached on an infield ground ball when Bieber couldn't find the bag while recieving Luis Urias' toss, loading the bases with just one out. Walks to Keibert Ruiz and Daylen Lile forced in a pair of runs. A Nasim Nunez sac fly plated Abrams to make it 3-0. Then another walk, to Jorbit Vivas, re-loaded the bases, and a sixth, to Jacob Young, pushed yet another run across. That was enough for the Jays, who called for Brendon Little. He got a ground out to finally end the inning.
The Jays had a chance in the second, with George Springer walking and Ernie Clement lining a single, but they failed to capitalize. Little returned for the bottom half and struck out the side.
Toronto got on board in the third. Yohendrick Pinango walked with one out, but was traded for Lukes on a fielder's choice. The speed upgrade mattered, as Vlad hit a slow roller to third and Vivas's throw to first went wide, allowing Lukes to come all the way around to score, cutting the deficit to 4-1. Little kept dealing, getting a ground out and a strikeout among the first two batters. Nunez reached when Ernie Clement bobbled a soft chopper to third, but Brandon Valenzuela gunned him down stealing second with a beautiful throw.

Trying to describe what happened when the St. Louis Cardinals played a baseball game against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night is like trying to explain what it looked like when you see a dumpster on fire. It wasn't pretty, but it happened so let's begin.
The Chicago Cubs made St. Louis Cardinals starter Michael McGreevy look like a batting practice pitcher. It started out promising enough (for the first out, anyway) when Pete Crow-Armstrong struck out gloriously. From there, it was downhill at blazing speed. I'll keep this as brief as possible. Suzuki singled. Two batters later, Bregman hit a ground rule double then Ian Happ hit a double which made it 2-0 Cubs before most of the Busch Stadium crowd had even taken their seat.
The top of the 2nd inning was worse. So much worse. Conforto singled. Kelly walked. Two batters later, PCA hit a sacrifice fly then Suzuki doubled, Busch singled, Bregman singled, Happ walked, then Nico ******* ner singled to right. By the time the carnage was over, it was 7-0 Cubs. Even the all-you-can-eat Busch Stadium food deal isn't enough to redeem this type of experience. Michael McGreevy didn't even finish the 2nd inning. That was Gordon Graceffo's job and, to his credit, he kept the Cubs from piling on any more runs until he was replaced by Justin Bruihl in the top of the 5th inning.
The Cardinals would manage to scrounge around for a run in the bottom of the 4th inning when they loaded the bases with an Alec Burleson walk, a Nootbaar infield single, a Masyn Winn single and a Nathan Church sacrifice fly with the bases loaded slightly reducing the humiliation making it 7-1 Cubs.
The Cubs were determined to squash whatever faint hopes the Cardinals might have managed with that menial 1-run bottom of the 4th by grabbing another run in the top of the 5th inning when Nico ******* ner walked then stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch by Justin Bruihl and then scored on an infield single from Ramirez restoring the 7-run lead making it 8-1 Chicago. The Cubs added another run in the top of the 8th to make it 9-1 and another in the top of the 9th to make it 10-1, but who really cares? Oh, the Cardinals did add a run in the bottom of the 9th inning when Masyn Winn doubled in Lars Nootbaar who had walked to make the final score 10-2, but we still don't care.

Counting Stars has been shining bright during her three-year-old season
During the Spring and Summer, most of the Thoroughbred racing focus is on events like the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont Stakes, and Travers Stakes. All these races are restricted to three-year-olds and mostly males run in them. For every race that has colts contending for greatness and notoriety, there is a sister race for those wonderful three-year-old fillies. During the 2026 racing season, a fantastic filly named Counting Stars has been quite celestial and is shining as bright as any three-year-old currently, regardless of gender.
The grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks has long been a summer showcase for the three-year-old girls. Inaugurated in 1917, this mile and an eighth dance over the New York dirt has seen its fair share of fantastic fillies. The 2026 edition was a showdown between Kentucky Oaks (opening leg of the Triple Tiarra) winner Always A Runner and Acorn Stakes (third leg and sister to the Belmont Stakes) champ Counting Stars. As the race unfolded, it became more of a showcase for a fabulous female.
Breaking alertly under jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., Counting Stars immediately ******* umed the lead and rolled through some solid early fractions (23.86 opening quarter mile, 47.60 half mile). Sashaying to the top of the stretch in an almost effortless fashion, this daughter of Honor A.P. was suddenly challenged by her rival and Oaks winner Always A Runner. With an eighth of a mile to go, the two were running side by side and separated by a whisker. Suddenly, the Stars aligned and with an amazing comet-like burst of speed, this mercurial filly trained by Mark Casse left her rival eating kickback as she whisked towards the wire. At the sixteenth pole the race was over and Counting Stars cruised past the finish an emphatic 4 ¼ lengths ahead in Stakes record time (1:48.98).
"Coming into the race I was about as confident as you can be in this filly", says trainer Mark Casse. "At the eighth pole, I wondered if perhaps I was wrong and she's not as good as I think. Always a Runner is a very good horse so naturally I was a little concerned, but then she responded to the challenge with a huge effort down the lane".

WR Kayshon Boutte: Boutte continues to make big plays on a daily basis. On Tuesday, his biggest moment came when he caught a deep touchdown from Drake Maye during 11-on-11s. Lining up in his typical spot as an X-receiver, the fourth-year man was able to get a step on safety Kevin Byard on a go route and showed some tremendous ball tracking and concentration skills to complete the over-the-shoulder catch for a score of 40-plus yards.
It was not Boutte's only reception on the day. He also caught a throw from Maye over the middle during 7-on-7s and added pair of catches when backup Tommy DeVito targeted him on out routes. It was an active day for a player who, through four practices, has been New England's most impactful wide receiver.
QB Drake Maye: The Patriots' quarterback started a bit slowly and his connection with A.J. Brown remains a work in progress, but he overall had a good day — an encouraging development after struggling with accuracy during the last full-speed practice on Sunday. Maye got into a rhythm during 11-on-11s, finding Boutte on his long touchdowns and also connecting with Hunter Henry and Rhamondre Stevenson for long completions.

Well this is a peculiar first move for trade deadline season. Jake Rogers, the longest tenured Detroit Tigers player, has been designated for ***** ignment. Eduardo Valencia was recalled on Sunday and will be taking over the backup catcher duties. Rogers' roster spot will go to Javier Báez, who returns from a three-month absence after suffering a high ankle sprain at the end of April.
The 31-year-old Rogers made his major league debut with the Tigers back on July 30, 2019 after coming to the Tigers in the trade that sent Justin Verlander to the Houston Astros in August of 2017. He finally became the Tigers primary catcher in 2021 before tearing his UCL and requiring reconstruction surgery that cost him all of the 2022 season. In 2023 and 2024 Rogers put together good seasons based around his defensive ability, plate discipline, and the occasional burst of home run power. He was worth 4.7 fWAR across those two years, but since that point his offensive contributions collapsed as Dillon Dingler took over the everyday catching role. This season, Rogers' defense finally showed real signs of cracking as well. He's hitting .161/.266/.301 for a 60 wRC+ which ranks him 48th out of 59 catchers with 100 plate appearances or more this season.
Despite his struggles, two part-time White Sox catchers, and numerous others, are even worse offensive players than Rogers. It won't be a surprise if he gets claimed, but it's too bad no one would flip a lottery ticket prospect to acquire him. The problem is that Rogers defensive numbers have declined this year and he's finally grading out a little below average as a defender. Whether that's partly the result of lack of playing time is hard to say, but hopefully he'll be claimed somewhere. If he clears waivers and is outrighted the Tigers will still be on the hook for the rest of his $3.05M salary for 2026.
Valencia is far and away a better hitter than Rogers, so that should provide a little support to the offense. On the other hand, Valencia isn't that good behind the plate, particularly in terms of holding opponents' running game in check. Still with Rogers defensive numbers in decline, perhaps Valencia won't do worse.
Getting Báez back could be pretty helpful to the Tigers although it's just funny to look at Báez as a way to trim strikeouts in the lineup by taking over some of the workload from James Outman. It will be interesting to see how he's deployed. With Kerry Carpenter out with a foot injury, the outfield needs help. It needed help anyway. We'll see if Báez is back to full speed and can get back to playing a solid enough center field. If he's back to 100 percent, that also gives the Tigers options, with Báez getting some time at shortstop and around the infield to get another right-handed bat into the lineup. Either way, it's good to have Javy Báez back, and hopefully further support for the outfield isn't too far away as Max Clark will be available to be called up without spoiling his 2027 rookie eligibi

For the first time in nearly two decades, a new era has officially dawned at Pittsburgh Steelers training camp. Appearing on "The Pat McAfee Show," veteran Steelers reporter Mark Kaboly revealed that the biggest storyline coming out of Latrobe isn't a specific position battle, but rather new head coach Mike McCarthy and the sweeping changes he has implemented in record time.
"It's the first time in 19 years now that we've seen something different up here at training camp," Kaboly noted, highlighting the stark contrast to the franchise's long-standing routines. "I say the story of camp so far would be Mike McCarthy and just how he has changed virtually everything about this organization and how they go about their business in such a small portion of time."
According to Kaboly, McCarthy's transition has been seamless, largely driven by his extensive experience as an NFL head coach. "His attention to detail is just off the charts here and that surprised a lot of people," Kaboly explained. "I think it surprised some of the players. It definitely surprised me."
Among the most noticeable shifts is a complete overhaul of daily practice structures, including a major departure from team tradition: eliminating live hitting during camp, a former staple of Steelers football.
"He's raring to go. Like I said, he has changed everything, from the start of practice to how they go about practice," Kaboly shared. "They're not going to hit at all during training camp. But how McCarthy has just taken over, you can tell that he's a 16-year veteran in this business of how quickly he's been able to get up to speed."

On Monday, one day before the Chargers veterans reported to training camp in El Segundo, it was reported that the team had released veteran offensive lineman Ben Cleveland.
In February of 2025, Cleveland was arrested and cited for DUI in his home state of Georgia. He plead guilty to the charge on November 4th and was ultimately suspended for three games by the Ravens. Cleveland was given a one-year probation on his driver's license. On July 16th, just 12 days before the start of camp, Cleveland was picked up for speeding which violates that probation.
Due to the repeated off-field issues, it looks like the Chargers finally decided keeping Cleveland around wasn't worth the negative publicity. And to be fair, Cleveland was no longer a good fit with the Chargers after the firing of offensive coordinator Greg Roman.
Now, the Chargers can focus on their wealth of young offensive lineman without needing worry about the availability of a fringe roster player.

LSU is coming in hot for the 2026 college football season, with new head coach Lane Kiffin also beginning the season with a ton of hype. He comes with an extensive resume, as shown by his winning record at Ole Miss, as he has turned the program around. The question is, are they worth the hype?
During an episode of the Bussin' With The Boys podcast, Josh Pate discussed LSU and admitted that they are certainly a strong contender to win that national **** le. However, he also pointed out that there may still be a few concerns that remain to be addressed.
"They could be a nasty team. So, the only team worse than Alabama at rushing the ball in the SEC last year was LSU" he said. "But LSU went out and took proactive measures to fix that. You mentioned the offensive line acquisitions. If the offensive line is good for them, they should be good enough at tailback. They could be a nasty team this year." (1:34:02)
As for the major concerns, Pate noted that LSU has a very portal-heavy team. This could lead to some chemistry issues, as well as questions about how the team might perform in the long run.
"With any portal-heavy team, you're always going to ask: How does this talent mesh together? It feels like that's a little bit of an overused doubting point these days. It's going to work to some degree, I think," he said. "The follow-up question is: Is this the kind of team that needs a long runway to get up to speed? Because they don't really have it. They play three "losable" games in their first four weeks—because I count Clemson as a losable game."

A "reckless" young driver who killed two people in a crash while speeding has had her prison sentence increased at the Court of Appeal.
Attorney General Ellie Reeves KC referred the case of Liberty Mitchell to the court under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme, and it was increased from six years and eight months to nine years and three months.
Taxi driver Octavian Codreanu died at the scene and passenger Moyra Whelan died in hospital after the crash on the B4425 in Gloucestershire in December 2022.
Mitchell, 21, who passed her driving test three weeks before the crash, had admitted two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by driving while uninsured.

Tuesday's session proved to be another showcase for Brooks, who is progressing through his first healthy offseason as a pro. The 23-year-old shined this morning, putting his speed and suddenness on display—as he did during spring workouts.

"It felt good. It felt good to be back out there," Brooks stated. "I'm just trusting the process that the trainers and coaches have for me. And just ultimately, believing in myself throughout the whole rehab process. And it was a blessing to be back out there."
Between two ACL tears to his right knee, one from college and one from his rookie campaign, Brooks has been limited to just three games since being drafted back in 2024. After being sidelined for the entirety of the 2025 campaign, the former second-round pick seems likely to factor into the Carolina offense from the jump—even drawing whispers of earning a featured role down the line.

After a slow start to proceedings, with Madrid maintaining possession at almost walking-speed – we ended up seeing a good amount of action. Arda Güler linked up with Fede Valverde for the first chance of the game, but the Uruguayan could not get his toe to the delicate pass. The same combination would later open the scoring, this time with a combination along the floor allowing Fede to poke the ball home. Madrid would make it two straight after a drinks break, when a trademark Trent Alexander-Arnold pass found Gonzalo García who **** ed the ball over the keeper to score. Trent was deployed very high up the pitch, and was a standout alongside Arda.
Leganés did pull a goal back with an unstoppable effort that left Andriy Lunin and his defence mesmerised. A great first-half test against a strong second division side – with the score currently reading 2-1 to the hosts ahead of the second period. Changes are expected at the break. Officials across Europe have restated the need to use VAR only to change "blatantly incorrect" decisions and address clear missed incidents.
UEFA convened referee chiefs from all 55 national ****** ociations last week along with representatives from the International Football ****** ociation Board (IFAB), which sets the game's laws, in a bid to reach a consensus on the best approach to officiating.
There was "unanimous" support for further measures to speed up restarts, such as the time limits on substitutions and five-second countdowns for goal kicks and throw-ins.
However, arguably the most significant statement was a restating of VAR's original purpose.
"VAR must only intervene in situations of 'clear and obvious' error, i.e. when a referee decision is blatantly incorrect or when the referee has missed a clear incident," a UEFA release stated.

Persistent weakness in consumption and the property sector, however, helped drag second-quarter growth to its slowest pace in more than three years, keeping calls alive for further policy support to address economic imbalances.
Industrial profit growth eased to 15.1% in June from 21.1% in May, while first-half profits rose 18.7% from a ‌year earlier, compared with an ⁠18.8% increase in the January-to-May period, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Monday.
"If this recovery can be sustained, it will ⁠be a good sign for the rest of the economy, as a return of profits growth could give companies room to resume wage growth," said Lynn Song, chief economist of Greater China at ING.
The figures add to evidence of a two-speed recovery in the world's second-largest economy, ‌where manufacturers have benefited from robust overseas demand, while sectors tied to domestic spending continue to struggle.
