Michael Carrick has insisted he is "not surprised" to remain in the Manchester United dugout despite the club enduring their most disastrous start to a league season in four decades. The former England international saw his position come under intense scrutiny this week following a dismal 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Bournemouth.
Carrick looked certain to face the axe following Sunday's humiliating loss against the Cherries. That result extended an abysmal winless streak to eight matches in all competition, cementing the club's worst start to a league campaign in 40 years.
However, crisis talks were held on Monday between the 45-year-old and the United hierarchy. Despite widespread anticipation of a managerial change, the boardroom ultimately opted to keep him at the helm.
This backing comes just months after Carrick penned a new permanent two-year deal in the summer. He had earned the permanent role by securing Champions League football, having originally taken over as a short-term successor to Ruben Amorim in January.
When pressed on his survival, the former midfielder maintained a defiant stance. He insisted his sole focus remains on rectifying the current crisis on the pitch rather than fearing for his job.

UFC 324 kicked off the promotion's Paramount era with an absolute thriller, as Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett went to war for five rounds. Gaethje eventually came out on top, securing the interim lightweight ****** le, but the fight wasn't without its controversies.
Several eye pokes and a low blow suffered by Pimblett had fans questioning the referee's decision not to take a point away, especially after two judges scored the contest 49-46. Beyond the officiating debate, another talking point was Pimblett's decision to trade strikes with one of the division's most dangerous punchers instead of making better use of his grappling.
Given his Brazilian jiu-jitsu credentials, many felt he left a major weapon unused. The Liverpudlian has since admitted that he could have approached things differently. Now, with Gaethje having become the undisputed 155lbs champion after beating Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250, Pimblett has opened up about what he would change if the two ever crossed paths inside the Octagon again.
In a recent interview with How U Livin J Piven, Pimblett admitted that he would take a completely different approach if he ever got another shot at Gaethje. "Yeah, if I fought him again, I'd shoot in within 10 seconds. I'd love to get that rematch. If I fought him again, I'd shoot in the first 10 seconds, put him on his back, and choke his ****** out."
That would arguably be a much smarter game plan for the Liverpudlian, who reminded everyone of his grappling prowess with a spectacular comeback at UFC 329.

Collin ***** ton has already made his mark on the Los Angeles Lakers in just four games with them this season. He's averaging 12 points in 17.8 minutes a game this season, but his impact has gone beyond his numbers.
He has been an igniter for them off the bench thanks to his ability to get buckets, handle the ball, create pace and get others involved. He has also sparked them defensively with his relentless pressure on the ball and his willingness to shadow opposing ball-handlers up and down the court. The guard has helped force turnovers, even when he hasn't been credited with a steal.
Coach JJ Redick said after Sunday's 132-123 win over the Utah Jazz that ***** ton has a "level of insanity" to him that helps the team. ***** ton explained after Wednesday's 16-point victory over the Los Angeles Clippers that he takes on a special mindset when he is on the court.
"Honestly, I would say when I step into one of those lines, it's us against them," ***** ton said. "I'm going to be doing whatever my team needs. For me, I feel like I turn into a different person when it's time to go. And I think my teammates know that. So they try to talk to me a little bit, but they know I'm in the zone and ready to go to war. And that's how I look at it. Whenever I step into those lines, it's wartime."
Off the court, ***** ton seems like an easy-going man who radiates a positive attitude of gratitude. On the court, he is ultra-aggressive, and that type of on-court attitude can be very contagious. This season's Lakers roster boasts several players who have a can-do spirit and seem willing to embrace their specific roles for the good of the team.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones once admitted that Donald Trump's involvement in the NFL's national anthem debate was damaging to the league, describing the president's interest as "problematic".
Jones made the comments in 2018, when the NFL was attempting to resolve the controversy surrounding players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice.
The debate had become a major talking point after Trump publicly criticised players who protested and urged the league to punish those who refused to stand.
Speaking at the Cowboys' training camp in California, Jones acknowledged that Trump's comments were creating difficulties for NFL owners.
"His interest in what we're doing is problematic from my chair, and I would say in general the owners' chair," Jones said.

Mizzou Basketball lost their exhibition game against UNLV on Thursday night. The game didn't count, so as much as I'm not going to talk up their win over Kansas State, I'm not going to talk down this loss to UNLV. Winning always feel better than losing, regardless of whether the game counts or not. But it looked like Dennis Gates was willing to make a few concessions with his lineups early. Also, Jamier Jones, CJ Gunn, and Jaylen Carey were all sidelined and not dressed out.
Anyway, here's the box score screen cap from Statbroadcast:
There are 13 players listed as having played, but I don't remember Luke Northweather seeing the floor. But there was a lot to think about, so let me try to parse through things quickly, since the 9pm tip means I'm starting this out well after 11.
My biggest takeaway was that one team played a lot harder than the other. The Tigers didn't have their full foster of players, but neither did UNLV. But you could see early the Rebels were focused on crashing the glass and being incredibly physical.
Jason Crowe played 36 minutes, Toni Bryant played 28, Aidan Chronister played 15. Those three players were able to overwhelm K-State, a team who is very focused on skill. Against UNLV the three freshmen, and not just those three but the whole roster, just got bodied by the effort of the Rebels. Lindenwood transfer Dontrez Williams, a Sikeston native, was only 1-5 from the floor and scored just 4 points, but he was +21. Mainly because he was out there playing his ****** off.

The Atlanta Dream is celebrating 18 years, and one of the women credited with bringing the dream to the city has also helped women find their place in the spotlight.
[DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks]
Channel 2's Karyn Greer sat down exclusively with former Atlanta City Council President and WNBA President Lisa Borders to talk about the team and her family's civil rights legacy.
Borders served as the 4th WNBA president a decade ago and she told Greer she is so proud to still be part of the Dream's support system. In fact, she calls all the women in the league her daughters.
For Borders, the Atlanta Dream is more than a team to cheer for, its a team she helped bring to life.

Everton manager David Moyes omitted Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish from his matchday squad for a disciplinary infraction before watching his side claim a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United on Thursday night. Despite the England winger's absence at the Hill ***** inson Stadium, the Merseysiders comfortably advanced into the last eight of the Carabao Cup.
According to talkSPORT, the 31-year-old playmaker was axed from the fourth-round tie following an unauthorised absence from a recent Everton training session. Grealish had previously missed last weekend's 2-0 Premier League defeat against ***** nal, though club officials attributed that initial omission to illness. On the pitch, goals from James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry rendered Dan Burn's late consolation for the visitors meaningless.
Prior to last weekend's clash with the Gunners, the attacker had been included in every matchday squad since returning to Merseyside late in the summer window, making three league starts and two substitute appearances after playing 77 minutes in last month's third-round cup win over Wolves.
Confirming his absence alongside defender Jarrad Branthwaite ahead of kick-off on Thursday, Everton wrote in a post on X: "Jarrad Branthwaite remains sidelined for a second successive game due to concussion protocols, while Jack Grealish is unavailable for selection due to a breach of Club discipline."
Having joined City from Aston Villa for £100 million in 2021, the England international initially moved to Everton on loan last term and registered two goals and six ***** ists across 20 outings before suffering a season-ending foot injury in January.

DOVER — Senior Jules Stowell said the St. Thomas Aquinas volleyball team has talked all season about its mentality and ability to respond after digging themselves a hole.
They had to put that mentality to use Thursday night.
Fourth-seeded St. Thomas fell behind 7-2 in the opening set and later found itself tied at 20 before closing strong. The Saints carried that momentum through the next two sets to earn a 3-0 sweep of No. 13 Prospect Mountain in a Division III preliminary-round match.
St. Thomas (14-3) will host No. 5 Trinity (14-3) in a Division III quarterfinal Saturday at 6 p.m. Trinity advanced with a 3-0 win over No. 12 Sunapee.
"We came out struggling a little bit, but we definitely fought back," St. Thomas freshman Hadley DeStefano said. "I mean, in the playoffs, teams come to fight and teams come to win. So, no matter who the team is, we know they're going to come fight as hard as they can and I think just as a team, it's really symbolic that we fought back."

The first full week of the 2026-27 NBA regular season has come and gone for the Boston Celtics, and it has been a busy one for the storied franchise. The Celtics notched their first three wins of the season against the reigning champion New York Knicks, the Chicago Bulls, and Brooklyn Nets after dropping their season opener to the Detroit Pistons the week prior, for starters.
The beef (or lamb chops and gravy or whatever we want to call it) between Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown not only took on new life, but picked up new combatants. Around the rest of the league, a number of teams have surprised early, others disappointed, and injuries are running rampant across the ******* ociation before we hit the month of November. To talk it all over and then some, the hosts of "Havlicek Stole the Pod" linked up with Nets Wire editor Sharif Phillips-Keaton.
Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say about a ******* py but mostly good start to the 2026-27 season.

When Dan Le Batard left ESPN in early 2021 and founded Meadowlark Media with former ESPN president John Skipper, many expected the company would scoop up many of the exiled former ESPNers Le Batard and Skipper had championed during their time at the network.
That proved partially true, as talent like Amin El-Hassan, Kate **** an and Tom Haberstroh came aboard. But Meadowlark couldn't lure some of the bigger fish from that cohort, even as some left ESPN for other companies.
One such host is Bomani Jones, who hosted Highly Questionable with Le Batard for several years and, before that, was a regular voice on Le Batard's radio show. In an interview this week on The Awful Announcing Podcast, Jones revealed that he actually came quite close to signing with Meadowlark. If not for getting his own HBO show, Jones said may have reunited with Le Batard.
"Yeah, I talked to them about going there in 2022," he revealed.
"If you would have asked in 2021 when Dan left ESPN and they went to start that, if you would have asked me where I would have thought I would have ended up at the end of that contract, I would have said that was the place that I thought I was going to end up. In large part because the place I worked at the time didn't seem like they were going to want to keep me.

I reached out to the folks at Black Shoe Diaries to talk about this weekend's game between their Nittany Lions and our Purdue Boilermakers. They were kind enough to respond with some informative answers to my questions. Make sure to go check them out.
Penn State has not won a Big Ten game yet this year. The schedule to start the year has turned out to be a lot tougher than most people probably thought going in. Given the turnover at the top, what was expected of Penn State by fans coming into this season?
I predicted a 9-3 season. Some others on our site were at least mentioning the word playoff in the offseason. Personally, I thought Penn State would have enough experience with Matt Campbell's system considering that there would be so much continuity with so many players making the move from Iowa State. A lot of that optimism was tied to the schedule. Unlike 2025 where Penn State jumped right into the deep end with a showdown against Oregon in conference play, this year seemed like it would give some runway for the Lions to work things out before a Whiteout matchup against USC. That seemed to be the plan until halftime of the Wisconsin game. From that 17-0 lead against the Badgers, the Lions have struggled mightily.
Three of the four Big Ten losses have come by 8 or fewer points. Is this a situation where Penn State may be 0-4 but they could very easily be 3-1? I guess the crux of my question is, is Penn State better than their record reflects?
I think it should be at least 1-3. The Wisconsin loss was egregious. Penn State led from the start. They could never quite put away the Badgers, had to settle for field goals, committed a brutal turnover, and then allowed a couple of long conversions in the loss. This team isn't as talented as last year's Penn State team, but there are some similarities. They've had second half leads in three of the four losses, just as last year's Penn State team lost fourth quarter/overtime leads to Oregon, Indiana, Iowa, and Northwestern.

Jaylen Brown's talk with Daniel Radcliffe offered lessons beyond basketball appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Jaylen Brown had plenty to say about basketball during his conversation with Daniel Radcliffe. The more interesting question, however, concerned how much power he plans to give everyone who talks about him.
Across discussions about personal recognition, public criticism, and Harry Potter, the Philadelphia 76ers forward returned to a consistent idea: Other people can judge him, but he gets to decide which judgments deserve his attention.
That distinction gave their October 29 podcast appearance substance beyond the unexpected pairing. Brown offered an approach to ambition that leaves room for achievement without making approval the ultimate destination.

FAIRMONT — When a team has won 66 straight games and back-to-back state championships, you might not feel like there is much they can do to earn a 'statement win.'
But it certainly felt like the East Fairmont Bees were doing everything in their power to make a statement against the North Marion Huskies during Wednesday night's Class AAA Region I Final.
And when the Bees emerged with a 10-0 mercy-rule win with over 28 minutes left to play in the game, that statement was definitely heard loud and clear.
"We wanted to come out and maybe make a little bit of a statement moving forward," East Fairmont head coach Eric Wright said. "Everything they put together — we had a game plan coming in, and I couldn't have been more pleased with how they played."
"They talk a lot, because we're rivals, and we just wanted to come out here and see if we could beat them better than we beat them before," junior Lily Larnerd said.

Abus Magomedov is riding high off his UFC 333 win, and who can blame him?
It was a near-perfect recipe. The first-round submission of Cameron Rowston was quick, decisive, and flashy. His flex celebration gave fans a moment to make viral, as did Magomedov's callout of contender Gregory Rodrigues. Perhaps the only thing missing was a Performance of the Night bonus.
"You know what happened last time after my last fight in Baku?" Magomedov told MMA Junkie on Thursday. "It was also a good performance. I was talking into the microphone after the fight. My coach Mike Brown called me and said, 'Why do you ask for the bonus? When fighters ask about the bonus, they never get it.' Then Ali Abdelaziz called me and said, 'Brother, why do you say this?' Then I said, 'OK, this is my first and last time that I ask for some money.' Then, I didn't say anything and still didn't get it."
"... It's better than nothing. But after you know you can get $100,000, $25,000 sounds not so enough. But always Alhamdulillah. Even though I didn't get bonus, I got good money there."
Magomedov (30-7-1 MMA, 6-3 UFC) didn't tap Rowston (15-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC). He choked "The Battle Giraffe" completely unconscious. As blood began to return to Rowston's brain after the stoppage, Magomedov flexed – a similar celebration to that of the one Nate Diaz hit Kurt Pellegrino with many moons ago.

ATLANTA — The thing Angel Reese learned in her first WNBA Finals appearance is that long series still go by fast. What's done is done, and what's to come is for the taking.
Trailing 3-2 in the series, and potentially 40 minutes from the experience ending, she and her Atlanta Dream teammates gathered together ahead of film sessions to talk through what it meant. They needed to gain confidence back following two losses marred by offensive woes. They emphasized how each could take a superstar turn, but everyone was needed.
By the end of the day's film and a final practice ahead of a must-win Game 6, they said they felt good about returning to Atlanta Dream basketball. They proved the talk true immediately.
"You could definitely tell we got our swagger back," Angel Reese said.
The Dream's offense tore out of its funk and past the Golden State Valkyries' suffocating defense in Game 6 on Thursday, a jolt to West Coasters settling in with their breakfast for a 12:30 p.m. ET/9:30 a.m. PT tip-off. The 80-69 win was more dominant than the final score indicated; the Dream led by 25 points with three minutes to go until the half.

ATLANTA – Thank you for coming to the WNBA Finals! Also, please leave the building.
Now.
The circus surrounding the moving of this game to a 12:30 p.m. start time on a Thursday was bad enough, but I'm not sure we talked enough about the circus going on inside the building in order to pull this off.
Game 6, won by the Dream 80-69, was a major-league event with a minor league schedule.
Saturday's Game 4 gave us a preview. That game began at 1 p.m. and all working media and staff were required to leave the building by 4:30 p.m. to accommodate the Hawks-Rockets game taking place immediately afterward. Generally, if you're a burgeoning league trying to increase awareness and interest, it's not a great idea to shoo all your media partners out the door right as they're trying to tell the world all about your product. Logistically, it worked out, barely, as writers scattered off to ****** orted hotels and coffee bars to finish their stories, and happy fans had at least a few minutes to whoop and holler before exiting into a glorious 70-degree day … but imagine if it had gone to overtime?

Max Verstappen has joked that his former team-mate Daniel Ricciardo is "a smart man" for picking him for his dream Le Mans line-up. In fact, he revealed that the pair of them had already discussed the possibility of it.
In a recent interview with the Beyond the Grid podcast, the Australian talked about his time at Red Bull and his exit from Formula 1. While he discussed what was next for him, he said that a Le Mans entry could be on the list. When asked who he'd team up with, Max Verstappen was the first name on his list. Sebastian Vettel was also an option, making something he called a "nice little Red Bull reunion" of sorts.
"He's a smart man to choose me in the car," Verstappen joked. "But we have to see. It just depends on a lot of things."
The four-time world champion has made no secret of his interest in endurance racing with him recently competing at Portimao, where he and his team finished ninth. He did, however, stress that he would only take on Le Mans with full preparation.
"Also for me, if I want to do it, I want to do it proper with really good prep. And at the moment I cannot do that. I don't have the time - the free time to dedicate to a Le Mans project with all the other things that I'm also doing outside of Formula 1."

NEW YORK (AP) — When Jake Bauers gloved the final out of the Milwaukee Brewers' first World Series triumph, it might have ended the last Major League Baseball game for a long time.
While just 148 days remain until the scheduled start of the 2027 season on March 24, owners have proposed a salary cap for the first time since their 1994 plan led to a 7 1/2-month strike and the first cancellation of the World Series in 90 years.
"Obviously, you'd love to see the game be in a good spot and continue to be played," Milwaukee captain Christian Yelich said Wednesday a few hours before his team finished a five-game victory over Tampa Bay. "I think the game's in a great spot right now with a lot of people tuned in, a lot of popularity, a lot of great players out there. It would obviously be a shame if we miss time, but we'll have plenty of time this offseason to talk about it."
Baseball's five-year labor contract, agreed to in March 2022 on the 99th day of a management lockout, expires on Dec. 1. MLB is likely to lock out players again as soon as the deal expires.
That could create another free-agent frenzy ahead of the expiration. On Dec. 1, 2021, clubs committed to $1.4 billion in salaries that included nine-figure contracts for Javier Báez, Byron Buxton, Kevin Gausman, Max Scherzer, Corey Seager and Marcus Semien.

A report says that Prince Harry's hopes for reconciliation are in doubt after his latest interview. It coincided with King Charles welcoming the Sultan of Oman for a historic state visit to the UK. The news emerged after the Duke of Sussex revisited family matters and voiced hopes for a reunion during his recent sit-down with Zach Baron.
In a landmark moment, King Charles hosted the Sultan of Oman, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, on Tuesday. It marked the first state visit by an Omani ruler to the UK in 44 years. The talks focused on boosting trade, defence, and Middle East peace efforts. Oman is seen as a key UK ally, and the King's meeting was expected to lead the headlines.
However, the significant diplomatic engagement was overshadowed after Prince Harry chose the same day to release his first tell-all interview since returning to Britain. However, the non-working royal's exclusive conversation drew major public attention and ended up taking center stage instead.
Commenting on the overlap, broadcaster Carole Malone and Daily Express royal editor Emily Ferguson weighed in. They suggested the repeated clashes in timing show Harry is not seeking reconciliation.
Appearing on the Royals Unscripted podcast, Malone said, "Charles will want to placate because he's of an age where he doesn't want to not be speaking to his son again. But I think Wills now is going to be taking the reins on this because what's happening now is that they are going to damage the royal brand… if this happens every time the royals are going to have a big event on."

Charles Barkley says some of the best money advice he ever got came from Michael Jordan on a golf course.
The Hall of Famer recalled the moment Jordan pulled him aside while playing golf in the early 1990s. On The Dan Patrick Show in June 2025, Barkley said he was making about $3 million a year from his Nike endorsement deal at the time.
"We were playing golf and he says, 'Chuck, I was talking to somebody, I want you to quit taking $3 million. Take $1 million and take the other $2 million in stock options,'" Barkley said.

President Donald Trump fired off a 1,321-word Truth Social post Sunday night mocking and attacking Bill Maher, days after the comedian defended attending a recent White House dinner with the president during his show's opening monologue on Friday night and declaring, "I like these dinners."
US President Donald Trump speaks at a midterm election campaign rally at Guardian Centers of Georgia in Perry, Georgia.
In the post, Trump lobbed multiple insults at Maher, calling him a "coward," a "major POTHEAD," and a "loser" while attacking the comedian's HBO talk show.
The president claimed that Maher was drunk during their recent dinner, alleging that he had "alcohol in his hand" as he walked through the White House and "looked like **** ."
Trump also disputed Maher's claim that the dinner, attended by ESPN host Stephen A. Smith and musician Kid Rock, lasted four hours, saying it lasted "two hours, maybe less," and adding he "felt it was a waste of time."

I'm 67, my husband is 69, and we've been married 38 years. We've lived in the same four-bedroom colonial for 32 of those years. It's paid off and worth $1.5 million. We have another $1.8 million in retirement accounts and savings, plus Social Security and a small pension from his old job. No debt, and our kids are on their own.
So this isn't a money problem, but we can't talk about retirement anymore without it turning into a fight. He wants to buy something for $600,000 now that we are empty-nesters, and invest the rest. He has a spreadsheet. I've seen it open on the laptop at the kitchen table at 11 p.m., with property taxes, insurance and the lawn guy all in little columns.
My spouse was awarded $90,000 from my 401(k) in our divorce. How is that fair?
'She's living the dream': My stepmother said I can buy my childhood home for $850,000. Is she taking advantage of me?

Nearly one in three veterans who relies on the government for health care could benefit from taking psychedelic drugs like magic mushrooms or MDMA.
That's not the ******* sment of some hippie or fading 1960s rock star. It came from Andrew Gradison, a senior adviser at President Donald Trump's Veterans Health Administration. Gradison told a conference for psychedelics enthusiasts this month that he is eager to ramp up the VA's capacity to give the drugs to as many as 2.1 million veterans with mental illnesses like post-traumatic stress disorder or depression. Gradison said 6.4 million veterans regularly rely on the VA for care.
No government regulator has deemed psychedelics safe or effective for mental illness. Under former President Joe Biden, the Food and Drug Administration in 2024 resoundingly rejected a proposal to authorize MDMA — also known as ecstasy — combined with talk therapy, to treat people with PTSD.
But psychedelics are getting a second chance in the Trump administration. Trump in April issued an executive order to accelerate research, clinical trials and patient access to the drugs. Republicans in Congress are among psychedelics' biggest backers. And the constituency they are seeking to please, veterans, are disproportionately Republicans.
Veterans, frustrated with high suicide rates among their fellow ex-service members, are lobbying aggressively to see Trump follow through.
