Myles Garrett is obviously the headliner of the Los Angeles Rams' pass rush, but Byron Young is a crucial part of the defense, too. Entering a contract year, Young is looking to get even better in 2026 after making the Pro Bowl for the first time last season.
Unfortunately, he's not fully healthy, and it sounds like he hasn't been in quite some time.
After sitting out practice on Monday, the Rams' second session of training camp, Young told reporters that he's still nursing a knee injury that's bothered him "for years." Young says he's "feeling real good," but he spent his offseason managing his knee with the Rams' training staff.
"It's been good," Young said of his offseason. "I've just been nursing up my knee. That was a process. They've got a good plan for me in place."
Young was asked about the recovery plan for his knee, and he says he and the Rams are going to take it "day by day." He practiced on Sunday and then sat out Monday's practice, but he plans to be back on the field "in a couple of days."

Borussia Mönchengladbach's pre-season plans have taken an immediate hit. Newly signed right-back Yukhym Konoplya is set to miss the start of the Bundesliga season after suffering an inner ligament tear in his knee during his unofficial debut for the Foals.
The 26-year-old Ukrainian international arrived at Gladbach from Shakhtar Donetsk for a reported fee between €3.5m and €4.5m. Bringing valuable Champions League and Europa League experience to the Lower Rhine, Konoplya was brought in to finally solve Gladbach's long-standing issues on the right flank. Known for his dynamic overlapping runs, sharp crossing, and relentless work rate, he was also expected to apply direct pressure on inconsistent starter Joe Scally and the more defensively minded Stefan Lainer.
However, his start in Borussia colors turned into a nightmare. Folks who are getting stressed or tetchy about an apparent lack of transfer activity, in my own humble opinion, just don't get the positivity, the strong base and the long-term planning that our owner and directors have developed and put into place for this club — they deserve huge credit and support from the fan base.
I get that we all have different opinions and varied emotions when it comes to something like the transfer window, but for me it's profoundly disrespectful to think that they don't know what they're doing, that they're going to let the club slide this coming season or that they aren't working extremely hard (and probably have been for over a year) to identify and bring in the right players, and not just buy for the sake of it to keep the noisy minority quiet.
I've seen enough knee-jerk signings and misfits over the years to see out my life on this earth. I'm extremely confident in and proud of this current regime to do the right thing and to continue to steer this club in the right direction.
From where we've been for most of my life, this is all superb and dreamland territory — anyone who thinks they're resting on their laurels and not following a well-structured plan needs to calm down and keep the faith.
I think we'll be late into the transfer market because of the level of players we're targeting.

The game against York was a perfect start to the 2026/2027 season. Class weather, a regiment of the red and white army and a strong display on the pitch. As one of the many that travelled, it turned out to be a great day and really got me looking forward to the games to come.
Despite being on the wrong end of the result during our clash with Liverpool, there were still lots of positives to take and it didn't dampen my mood.
In fairness, that was mainly due to the magnificence of Enzo Le Fée. Is it possible to be addicted to watching a footballer play? If so, I think I am. How on earth did we have him in the Championship?
Seeing the Lads in action just brings me so much joy — as I am sure it does to us all, and I simply can't wait for the start of the season and especially the first home game against Fulham. Hopefully some more bright sunshine, seeing some new signings in action and the Stadium of Light in full voice.
After knee surgery in April, I missed out on attending the last few games of the 2025/2026 season.

The Seattle Seahawks are set to move on from one of their running backs.
ESPN's Brady Henderson reported on Monday that the Seahawks are planning to waive fourth-year back Kenny McIntosh, who is currently on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after suffering a torn ACL last training camp.
The Seahawks confirmed Henderson's report shortly thereafter. McIntosh was not immediately replaced, so the Seahawks will enter Tuesday with an open roster spot.
It's an unfortunate situation for the national champion from Georgia, who injured his knee during 2023 training camp and barely played as a rookie. In 2024, McIntosh played in every game but predominantly on special teams. When he did get involved in the offense, rushed for 172 yards on 31 carries and caught three passes for 22 yards in limited playing time. He also was part of Seattle's kick return rotation.
With the Seahawks drafting Jadarian Price in the first round and signing Emanuel Wilson in free agency, it was always going to be difficult for McIntosh to make the roster this season. George Holani, who lost out to McIntosh for a roster spot in 2024, was able to secure a spot after McIntosh's injury and has the inside track to have an increased role in the offense. Factor in the eventual return of Zach Charbonnet from his own ACL tear, and there just wasn't much of a realistic path for McIntosh to make the 53-man roster.

McIntosh currently is on the active/physically unable to perform list. He tore the ACL in his left knee during a training camp practice 366 days ago.
The Seahawks made McIntosh a seventh-round pick in 2023, and he injured his knee in his first training camp. He played only 13 special teams snaps in three games as a rookie.
In 2024, McIntosh appeared in every game, playing 75 offensive snaps and 173 on special teams. He rushed for 172 yards on 31 carries and caught three passes for 22 yards, while returning six kickoffs for 153 yards.
The Seahawks drafted Jadarian Price in the first round and signed Emanuel Wilson in free agency. Eventually, Zach Charbonnet will return from his torn ACL.

Patrick Mahomes has made a remarkable recovery from a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee. The Chiefs quarterback injured his knee in a Dec. 14 game and underwent surgery the following day.
A little over seven months later, he is cleared for training camp.
Mahomes said he consulted with several players who went through a similar rehab.
"I talked to Tom [Brady] early in the process because he had the same injury, a very similar injury that I had," Mahomes said Friday, via Pete Sweeney of the Kansas City Star.
Brady tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee during the season opener in 2008 before winning Comeback Player of the Year in 2009.

Paul Felder isn't confident Conor McGregor comes back better after UFC 329.
McGregor (22-7 MMA, 10-5 UFC) tore his right ACL and meniscus in the first kick he threw against Max Holloway two weeks ago at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was waved off after just 69 seconds as McGregor was unable to continue.
McGregor attempted to come back after breaking his left leg in July 2021. He was first scheduled to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but a broken pinky toe forced him out. Despite the slew of injuries and unfortunate events, McGregor insists on fighting again. He thinks with "today's regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods," he can return as soon as summer of 2027.
"I do agree that with the advancements in medicine and things that you can do to support ligaments, and your knee, you can be back quick, but you're also way older than you were the first time you went through this surgery," Felder said on the "Believe You Me" podcast. "You didn't have a broken shin that you had already recovered from in the other leg.
"So I think yeah, he'll be back relatively quick, but I just don't know what your legs are going to be like after yet another big setback. I know he's trying to keep mentally strong. He keeps posting that he's not putting any substances in his body and I'm glad to hear that – good for him. But I just don't know if that's enough to get you back within a year, ready to go when you've had five years to get ready for this one, and your body still didn't seem to hold up to it."

The 49ers have often entered training camp with four quarterbacks under Kyle Shanahan. Last year, it was Brock Purdy, Mac Jones, Kurtis Rourke, Tanner Mordecai, and Carter Bradley. There was an extra quarterback in the fold with Rourke recovering from a knee injury.
The previous August, it was Purdy, Mordecai, Brandon Allen, and Josh Dobbs. In August 2023, It was Purdy, Allen, Sam Darnold, and Trey Lance.
The 49ers have four arms on the roster currently, with Purdy, Jones, Rourke, and Adrian Martinez. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, the Niners will work out former UFL MVP Jack Plummer for the Orlando Storm. Plummer led the league with 2,188 yards and had 17 touchdowns with only one interception in 10 games. Plummer went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, but was waived by the Carolina Panthers last August during roster cuts.
The 49ers might want to give Brock Purdy rest during the next month, or need a quarterback to throw late in preseason games. To me, the team working out a quarterback is a sign they want to upgrade from Martinez. Plummer’s stat line would suggest he is the kind of quarterback Shanahan would gravitate toward.

Will the Washington Commanders sign a wide receiver before they open training camp next week? While it appears increasingly unlikely that Washington will sign a receiver in the coming days, the possibility remains open that it could sign one before Week 1.
Brandon Aiyuk seemed the most obvious name for months. That appears off the table now for multiple reasons. Stefon Diggs remains available, but may not be for long. Someone the Commanders know well, Deebo Samuel, also remains available.
The most accomplished wide receiver still available is Tyreek Hill. The 32-year-old Hill has been a popular name to link to Washington on a short-term deal. However, it's uncertain if the Commanders have shown any interest in Hill. If they haven't, it may be due to his injury. Hill recently revealed a troubling update on his left knee.
"So it's about 10 months after doing two surgeries," Hill said on social media, via John Breech of CBS Sports. "My left leg is the one that I injured. I have no power in my left leg at all, so I'm trying to regain all the power back in my left leg, but it's one day at a time."

William Saliba, arguably the club’s most important defender, is set for a long spell out after suffering a back injury during France’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Spain. According to Sky Sports, ****** nal are now looking hard at the centre-back market, with John Stones and Ezri Konsa among the names under consideration.
That much is logical. Saliba has “avoided the need for surgery” but still faces “a lengthy period of rehabilitation”. You do not lose a defender of that calibre and pretend your existing depth solves everything. ****** nal have numbers at the back, yes, but top-level sides do not build plans around wishful thinking. They build around certainty, availability and profile.
That is where this story gets interesting. Stones and Konsa are both credible options, both known quantities in the Premier League, and both capable of playing at right-back. The similarity ends there.
Arsenal have already moved to “consolidated their defensive options” by signing Piero Hincapie permanently after his loan from Bayer Leverkusen. They also have Gabriel, Riccardo Calafiori, Cristhian Mosquera, Jurrien Timber and Ben White available, or close to available, across the defensive line.
But context matters. White is only just back in training after the knee injury he suffered in May. Timber has said he is “hopefully back soon” as he recovers from a groin problem. In other words, there are still too many variables. Arteta cannot go into the season knowing Saliba is out for an “extended period” and simply hope the rest of the puzzle pieces stay in place.

It seemed like the perfect time for the club to arrange a pre-season friendly in Dublin, where Sunderland would take on Shelbourne FC, and on a sunny midweek evening in the Irish capital, hundreds of Sunderland supporters, — including this writer — made the journey from both near and far to Tolka Park on Dublin's north side.
Having just suffered relegation in humiliating circumstances, the timely announcement of Niall Quinn's takeover from Bob Murray added a level of excitement to a fixture that otherwise would've been viewed as little more than a routine summer friendly.
I recall sitting in the stands, clad in my red and white stripes, cheering as the giant that was Quinn strode past, saluting his people while we lavished the man dubbed the "saviour" with praise at a time when the club was on its knees.
Moments later, my attention shifted to a Newcastle supporter who couldn't have been much older than my twelve-year-old self.

The Arizona Cardinals reported for training camp on Wednesday, and then on Thursday, before their first practice, they made a few procedural moves with injuries. Per the NFL transaction report, four players were placed on the preseason PUP (physically unable to perform) list.
Two were not surprising. Two were.
Cornerback Garrett Williams and tight end Tip Reiman were placed on PUP for injuries that have been known for a while. Reiman is coming back from a serious ankle injury, and Williams tore his Achilles last December. Williams was never going to be able to start training camp. There was hope that Reiman could.
The other two were surprising — left tackle Paris Johnson and outside linebacker Josh Sweat.
Johnson had a knee injury at the end of last season but was healthy enough to practice in the offseason program. Sweat played every game last season and ended the year healthy. He didn't participate in the offseason program, but he wasn't there for the voluntary part, opting to work out on his own.

The Cardinals placed left tackle Paris Johnson and linebacker Josh Sweat on the physically unable to perform list on Thursday, but head coach Mike LaFleur didn't make it sound like either player is going to miss much time during training camp.
LaFleur told reporters that both players are dealing with knee issues and that the Cardinals will "be smart" with them at this point in the calendar. The Cardinals will practice the next four days before taking Monday off and neither player will practice before that rest day, but LaFleur suggested they won't be out much longer.
"The Paris thing, that is honestly nothing," LaFleur said, via the team's website. "It's really just maintenance. He'll be back before you know it. Same thing with Josh. Seeing him, he's fired up to be here. He's in great spirits and feeling good."
The Cardinals also placed cornerback Garrett Williams (Achilles) and tight end Tip Reiman (ankle) on the PUP list to open camp.

The New Orleans Saints saw one of their NFC South rivals significantly weakened on the defensive side on Thursday. Carolina Panthers edge rusher Nic Scourton suffered an ACL injury during practice with the team on Thursday and will miss the entire 2026 NFL season. This was first reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. The Athletic's Joseph Person observed Scourton being carted off during team drills at Panthers practice on Thursday. Trainers were focused on Scourton's right knee. Later in the day, it was determined that Scourton had suffered an ACL tear that will cost him his entire season.
After earning a first team All-SEC selection in 2024 with the Texas A&M Aggies, Scourton was drafted 51st overall in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Scourton tied for the 2025 Panthers team lead with 5 sacks as a rookie. He had 15 pressures and 9 QB hits while adding a forced fumble and 7 tackles for loss among his 47 total stops. In two games against the Saints last season, Scourton had 1.5 sacks and 5 QB pressures. New Orleans won both games. However, the Panthers would win the NFC South with an 8-9 record before going on to lose to the Los Angeles Rams, 34-31, in the first round of the NFL playoffs.
Carolina finished 2025 ranked 16th in total defense. Scourton's loss thins out a pass rush that had just 30 total sacks last season. The Panthers signed Jaelan Phillips in free agency this offseason to team with Scourton in hopes of improving that pass rush. Princely Umanmielen, a third round choice in the 2025 NFL Draft, is the favorite to take Scourton's place in the lineup.
New Orleans faces the Panthers at home on Nov. 15 and at Carolina on Dec. 13. The Saints have a potentially strong tackle duo in Kelvin Banks Jr and Taliese Fuaga. More bad news for a Panthers squad hoping for a repeat division ***** le might help New Orleans' chances. Either way, this unfortunate injury for Scourton is a good reminder of how quickly plans can fall apart in such a physical sport.

The New York Giants got some much needed good news around dinner time on Thursday evening.
Wide receiver Malik Nabers (knee) is not expected to start training camp on the PUP list, per a report from Jordan Raanan of ESPN.
As we well know, Nabers suffered a torn ACL with additional meniscus damage in the Giants Week 4 win against the Los Angeles Chargers a year ago. In addition to the surgery to repair his torn ACL, Nabers also needed to have his meniscus repaired. He also had a cleanup surgery earlier in the off-season, which raised questions as to his readiness for the 2026 season — let alone training camp.
Instead, it does appear that he's trending toward being ready for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys. Just how ready remains to be seen, but this is better news than the possibility of missing the first four weeks on the PUP list. Nabers will be ineligible for the PUP list once he practices the first time or plays in a preseason game.
Likewise, running back Cam Skattebo will be active to start training camp.

The New York Giants are opening their training camp with some good news.
While the team had to place three players on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list ahead of camp opening in West Virginia next week, none of them were star wide receiver Malik Nabers.
Nabers is recovering after undergoing a second surgery during the offseason, in the wake of last season's torn ACL. His status is among the biggest question marks going into this season, as the team has expressed hope he will be ready for Week 1.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh, however, has couched expectations by noting that Nabers' knee injury is "not simple."
Nabers landing on the PUP list would have been a bad sign for his availability, though avoiding it doesn't mean he's 100% healthy either. He's still making his way back and staying off the PUP list means he won't be restricted in practices.

Lady Vols basketball guard Avery Mills underwent surgery for a torn ACL and meniscus in her right knee, she announced on Instagram on July 23.
"After a successful ACL & meniscus repair surgery, the comeback starts now!" Mills wrote.

The Giants announced the first batch of players who will start the upcoming 2026-27 season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and wide receiver Malik Nabers is not on it.
New York is set to start training camp in West Virginia next week, and the club announced that tight end Thomas Fidone II, DL Sam Roberts and DL Roy Robertson-Harris will miss the first four weeks of the season, at least, after being placed on the PUP list on Thursday.
Nabers avoiding the PUP list means there's a chance the former first-round pick could return to the club sooner than expected after the wideout suffered a torn ACL and underwent surgery last October. However, Nabers had to undergo a second surgery on his left knee earlier this year.
Although the second surgery is not ideal for Nabers or the Giants, the club remained optimistic about Nabers' eventual return. They said he was progressing well, but that he wouldn't do much in the early stages of the team's offseason program.
First-year head coach John Harbaugh said on the first day of voluntary workouts that he expects Nabers to get back on the field as they progress deeper into camp and closer to the season.

One day into training camp, and the Panthers have lost their first casualty for the season, and it was their promising young 2025 2nd round pick, EDGE Nic Scourton. Scourton appeared primed to have a big role on this front seven opposite Jaelen Phillips, but we're going to have to wait til 2027 as Scourton went down with what appeared to be a severe knee injury early in the day. Speculation was it was very serious due to how he and the players around him reacted, and sure enough, its a torn ACL. Horrible news for the Panthers, sending best wishes to Nic on a speedy and healthy recovery.
Running back Jonathon Brooks practiced in training camp for the first time in his career (shout-out to Mike Kaye for that factoid). While I know many fans have been skeptical of his health, he appears primed to have a significant role in the offense if this direction continues.
The Panthers have officially announced rookie first round pick Monroe Freeling will be starting at right tackle to start the year given the medical issue keeping Taylor Moton out. Initially, Freeling was set to enter a competition with Rasheed Walker at left tackle, but the team quickly created a new plan for Moton's absence.
Dave Canales said OL Brady Christensen "looked good" in his first training camp action back with the team. Christensen is coming off a torn Achilles last season, but he may be needed sooner than later if the Panthers injury luck continues.

The Carolina Panthers opened training camp this week ahead of their NFL preseason Hall of Fame Game against the Arizona Cardinals. And on the first day of training camp practice, the Panthers' defense suffered a brutal blow.
Panthers linebacker Nic Scourton suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his right knee during practice on Thursday. NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe delivered a report with the breaking news on ESPN.
Scourton, 21, was selected by the Panthers in the second round (51st overall) of the 2026 NFL Draft. The edge rusher started eight games in his rookie season, and he finished with five sacks, tied for first on Carolina. Pro Football Focus credited Scourton with 34 pressures.
It was expected that Scourton would be a key part of the Carolina defense in 2026, and it was easy to see a potential leap into stardom for the highly talented pass rusher.
Scourton starred at Purdue and had a Big Ten-leading 10 sacks in the 2023 college football season before transferring to Texas A&M, where he had five sacks in 2024.
