There's was no way a matchup between the Cincinnati Hills League's two heavyweights would end quietly.
Wyoming and Indian Hill traded blows for four quarters on Friday, Sept. 11, then traded touchdowns through three overtimes before the Cowboys finally found a way to stop one of Ohio's best players with everything on the line.
Wyoming survived Indian Hill, 48-47, in a triple-overtime Week 4 thriller that had everything from big plays, turnovers, missed opportunities and controversy before ultimately a final defensive stand that sent the Cowboys sideline into a frenzy.

Week 1 of the 2026 college football season concluded Sunday for SEC schools.
No. 18 Tennessee (1-0) defeated Furman (1-1), 56-9, at Neyland Stadium to open its football campaign.
"Good start today," Heupel said after defeating the Paladins. "There's a bunch that we are going to need to clean up here in all three phases of the game, but overall pleased with the performance. Defensively, we played extremely well. We don't turn it over, it's probably a shutout. Those guys have grown, worked and competed extremely hard to go play and start the season that way. Proud of the effort there from our staff and our players.
"Offensively, the penalties early in the football game slowed a couple of drives down. After that, I thought we executed at a high level. Quarterbacks played smart and efficient today. All of them did, so good start. A lot to learn from and move on to a big one next week."
Following Week 1, SEC football power rankings and each team's schedule are listed below.

We all celebrate the beginning of a new college football season because, no matter what kind of nonsense is happening off the field, we believe that once the competition begins it will unfold the way it always has.
Let the best team win.
That didn't happen in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Saturday night. Not even close. Instead, the decision to give Michigan an extra second against Western Michigan — when the live video showed the clock expired and Bryce Underwood's Hail Mary pass still in the air — could turn into one of the biggest on-field scandals in college football history.
Welcome to another year of the Misery Index, a weekly feature where Yahoo Sports takes the temperature of college football fan bases that, as college football fan bases tend to do, react badly to losses, or sometimes even wins.
But unfortunately, the 2026 season must start with a story that should make all of us miserable.

The Southeast is dealing with a brutal heatwave this week, with temperatures reaching the upper 90s and heat indexes in the triple digits. The good news for Auburn football fans is that the heat will not be a major factor in Saturday's Week 1 matchup between the Tigers and Baylor Bears.
Auburn football opens the 2026 season against the Baylor Bears on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia, where the temperature is expected to reach 97 degrees, with a "real feel" of 107 degrees, according to AccuWeather. However, the game will be played indoors at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, giving fans a more comfortable setting as they watch the Tigers battle the Bears to open the Alex Golesh era.
Fans partaking in pregame tailgating outside the stadium will face the heat, however. The heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service for Atlanta will remain in effect until Saturday at 7 p.m. CT. Because of this, morning temperatures for outdoor tailgates will rise into the low 90s with very little wind.
The temperature will then jump to 97 degrees during the game and will sink to a low of 75 by Saturday night, with a slight chance of a shower between 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. CT.
Auburn football has won nine straight season-openers, dating back to 2017's 41-7 win over Georgia Southern, and has won 21 season openers since 2000. The Tigers look to extend that streak to 10 games on Saturday by taking on the Baylor Bears in Atlanta, Georgia, at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will air live on ABC.

Liverpool have confirmed their squad for the league phase of the Champions League, with Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo among the notable absentees.
Both players have been left out of the 25-man group, in a decision that could raise further questions over their respective positions within the squad.

Chiesa has already missed Liverpool's opening two Premier League matches due to a muscle problem and will now have to watch the Champions League campaign from outside the squad.
The Italian's omission is particularly significant following the changes Liverpool have made to their attacking options during the summer.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — After a whirlwind of a day with the announcement that owner Arte Moreno was selling a majority stake of the team to Stan Kroenke, the night concluded with the Angels' 7-3 loss against the Yankees.
It was a similar story to the other 85 losses the Angels have had this season, but here are some notes from the game that stood out.
The Angels were down quickly, as right-hander Grayson Rodriguez allowed a two-run home run to Spencer Jones and then a solo shot to Jazz Chisholm Jr. the very next batter to give the Yankees an early 3-0 lead. But after that, Rodriguez settled in and allowed one more run the rest of the outing.
His final line was four earned runs in six innings of work with seven strikeouts and two strikeouts.
"Changeup started working a little bit better for me, made some adjustments with it," Rodriguez said was the key to settling in after the first inning. "They took some bad swings on it, so really worked that into the game plan."

Hundreds of people gathered to watch the annual August bank holiday tradition of teams playing football matches in a shallow river.
The River Windrush football match, hosted by Bourton Rovers Football Club in Bourton-on-the-Water in Gloucestershire, involves players competing in ankle-deep water.
Those who were brave enough to stand on the edge of the riverbank came equipped with waterproof jackets and umbrellas to stay dry while the players contested the game, which finished 3-3.
The tradition is said to have started more than 100 years ago when drinkers in a riverside pub got bored and decided to stage an impromptu match in the water.
Why is folic acid being added to bread flour?

In a conference long known for its stout defenses, being recognized as the top player on that side of the ball is no easy feat. The last five winners reflect that. Since 2021, the last four winners of the award — Aidan Hutchinson (Michigan), Jack Campbell (Iowa), Jer'Zhan Newton (Illinois), and Abdul Carter (Penn State) — have made their presence felt on Sundays in the NFL. Caleb Downs, who is the most recent winner, was selected No. 11 overall by the Dallas Cowboys and could be in for a highly impactful rookie campaign.
Typically, I like to present a list of options and riddle the breakdown with several pumpfakes that'll make you believe I'm picking that player to take home the award later this year. Not this time.
2026 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year: EDGE Anthony Smith, Minnesota
Last season, Smith was a disruptor. He finished the year with 21 solo tackles and 12.5 sacks. Those numbers are sometimes inflated in blowout wins against non-Power Five opponents, but that wasn't the case for Smith. The Golden Gophers opened the season against Buffalo and Northwestern State (FCS). Smith had just two sacks during that stretch, despite the victory over NWSU coming in the form of a 66-0 shellacking. He did add two sacks against a Non-Power Five foe, but that was in the Rate Bowl against New Mexico, so you can't dock him there.
Smith isn't my pick because he's the best defender. Nor is he my pick because Cleveland.com has the same projection. The team with the most candidates is Oregon. If the Ducks live up to expectations, they'll boast one of the most balanced defenses. With their mixture of talent and depth, we probably won't see any extraordinary stat lines from a Duck defender. This is where Smith benefits. If the award is not given to the best defender on the best defensive team, the second qualifier will boil down to numbers. Smith has already proven that he's capable of posting big ones.

"Look how scared I am, I am so scared," Filip Hrgovic said, shaking his hands to emulate a quiver, and stretching his face into a Home Alone poster-esque expression. The thing is, he probably should be scared.
That's not to say he should be scared of Moses Itauma specifically, although Itauma has compiled considerable, compelling evidence as to why one would fear him; rather, Hrgovic's cause for concern is the broader dynamic he has created ahead of their fight.
Ahead of Saturday's world heavyweight ***** le clash, the one word he has used liberally, perhaps even haphazardly, is "kid".
Filip Hrgovic at the final press conference for his fight with Moses Itauma (Reuters)
"It's no offence to him, but I just saw that kid, that young man inside of him. But we were all stupid when we were young," Hrgovic told reporters this week. "I saw that kid in his eyes, in his behaviour, and in his attitude. We've all been like that, but I just don't think he's aware of a lot of things, he's not been through a lot of things. He's just young.

NASCAR "driver appearances" were once so common, you couldn't avoid them on any milk-and-bread run, not to mention a swing by the local auto parts store.
Well, this week in Daytona, you can meet two former champions as well as the two best NASCAR racers to win everything BUT a championship.
Along the way, you can meet a driver at a pool party.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Mark Martin, who recently released an autobiography — "Never Lift" — will be among the big names you can find Thursday at one of the old staples of NASCAR partnerships: Winn-Dixie.
His fellow famous non-champ, Denny Hamlin, can also be found there.

Alabama is three wins away from reaching the United States Championship game in the 2026 Little League World Series.
The journey continues on Tuesday, August 25 as Phenix City faces Tacoma, Washington — the squad that opened up Alabama's time in Williamsport, Pennsylvania with a loss despite the efforts of Kinley Rasmus on the mound.
Rasmus helped keep Phenix City's Little League World Series hopes alive on Monday when she took the mound in the third inning, after which Alabama came back from a 5-run deficit to win 6-5 in walk-off fashion.
Should Phenix City fall to Washington, the Northwest representatives, again when the teams meet at 2 p.m. CT (ESPN), Alabama's first LLWS run since 1999 will be over.

The 2026 college football season begins this Saturday with an eight-game Week Zero. That leaves just under two weeks before most programs kick off their seasons. Several teams and their head coaches named their starting quarterbacks on Monday in preparation for Week 1.
Alabama named Keelon Russell its starter on Saturday, while other prominent QB competitions at Clemson, West Virginia, Vanderbilt and Iowa still haven't been decided — at least publicly.
Here are several of the QBs who have been named starters for the season.
The Volunteers are making true freshman Faizon Brandon their starting QB. Head coach Josh Heupel told the team of his decision on Monday morning and officially announced Brandon as the starter in an afternoon press conference.
Brandon, 6-foot-4, beat out sophomore George MacIntyre for the position, clinching the decision with his performance in a scrimmage on Saturday, according to On3. A five-star recruit, Rivals ranked Brandon as the No. 3 QB nationally and No. 10 player overall out of Grimsley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has criticised Barcelona over their pursuit of striker Julian Alvarez this summer.
Alvarez said during the World Cup he wanted out of Atletico but remains with Diego Simeone's side heading into the start of the new La Liga season.
Barcelona remain keen on the Argentina international but Cerezo says his club have never wanted to sell and added Barcelona have "not risen to the occasion."
"I believe, and the only thing I can say after a rather complicated summer with the constant questions about Julián Álvarez, is that he is an Atlético de Madrid player, that he has always been an Atlético de Madrid player , and that we never intended to sell him, " he told he told El Desmarque.
"He is an Atlético de Madrid player who is available to the coach whenever the coach wants him. What I believe is that FC Barcelona has not risen to the occasion and has not done what it usually does in these cases."

Falcons QB battle just took a wild turn after huge Michael Penix Jr. news originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Atlanta Falcons' quarterback competition is about to get much more interesting.
Michael Penix Jr. has been cleared to fully participate in practice, including 11-on-11 team periods, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Saturday following Atlanta's 34-6 preseason victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
The clearance represents a major step for Penix, who underwent surgery on his left ACL in November. Throughout the offseason and training camp, the former first-round pick had been limited primarily to individual drills and 7-on-7 work.
Now, Penix will finally get an opportunity to compete under the same practice conditions as Tua Tagovailoa.

Liverpool are desperately trying to add to their wide forward options before the transfer window closes on September 1.
Ever since Mohamed Salah left on a free transfer Andoni Iraola's squad has looked short of wingers - especially on the right side.
It's been suggested that Victor Munoz and Rio Ngumoha may have to switch over the the right-hand side in order to address the shortfall.
But the ideal scenario will be to recruit at least one - if not two - widemen by the deadline.
It's no secret that Bradley Barcola is the No1 name in the frame. Paris Saint-Germain are seeking around £145m for the 23-year-old France international.

It was, of course, inevitable that Test cricket's return to this parched England summer would bring with it the welcoming relief of rain. Seeking an end to a long dry spell? Well, scheduling a first men's international red-ball fixture for seven sun-soaked weeks has done the trick with an altogether spottier forecast for Headingley.
That drought has taken with it a coach and a captain, the dead-heading that felt inevitable after a barren winter postponed from spring to summer to bring about a regime change of curious timing. Already, one might suggest, a series has been squandered; the risk now for England is not letting another slip as they look to germinate and bed in a crop that it is hoped can be made to flourish with a little more careful nurturing.
A new-look England taken on Pakistan in the first Test at Headingley (PA)
Back to tend the garden in his own backyard is one of Yorkshire's own – though that would have been true had England landed on the other side of a choice of flawed options. It could be said, though, that Joe Root's perennial status as his side's man for a crisis has counted in his favour as he is tossed an unenviable duty once more. Having got the nod ahead of Harry Brook, Root has spoken well in his limited media dealings since being reappointed Test captain of learning from the mistakes and missteps of his first stint – both those of his own and from figures above him, who saddled their skipper with duties that reached beyond the remit of an already-challenging role during the Covid pandemic particularly.

LOS ANGELES — After a week of practices in Irvine, the UCLA football team has returned to campus to resume their regular operations. Today's practice is also their final one available to the media before Wednesday's Media Day.
One of the biggest questions to begin the Bob Chesney era is how the first-year head coach is managing an influx of talent in Westwood.
The Bruins roster 63 new players this season, 45 of whom are transfers, and added elite pieces to an offense that showed flashes but struggled to find a consistent footing last year. As fall camp continues, we're getting more clarity on who's solidifying a spot in the starting offensive group.
Here's a look at who has been standing out in the first unit:
