White House chief of staff Susie Wiles is "cancer free," she announced on X on Sept. 16, 2026. "Some personal news I'm grateful to share. After a medical appointment at the Mayo Clinic this week, my pathology results came back clear," she explained.

Wiles was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in March and told the New York Times that her prognosis was "strong." Wiles did not disclose at the time what treatment she would undergo, but said it would last several weeks — during which time she planned to continue working. Noting that one in eight American women develops breast cancer at some point in their lives, Wiles posted on X at the time: "Every day, these women continue to raise their families, go to work and serve their communities with strength and determination. I now join their ranks."
A breast cancer diagnosis is life-altering, but Wiles's comments highlighted the progress that's been made in recent years. Breast cancer is now detected at Stage 0 or 1 — before it has spread — in the majority of cases. Survival rates have risen dramatically, but "the treatments we use to treat early-stage breast cancer have become more tailored" and less disruptive to women's lives, Dr. Lynn Dengel, a University of Virginia surgical oncologist, told Yahoo in March.
"Because [Wiles] was taking care of her health [and getting screened], not only will her prognosis be better, but it will probably minimize what treatment she has to go through and will benefit her work-life and overall balance," Dengel said. She added that most of her patients are diagnosed early and can continue to work while undergoing breast cancer treatment, reducing the financial burden and overall disruption to their lives.
Wiles was diagnosed at age 68 — slightly older than the median age (62) when most women learn they have breast cancer. More than 380,000 American women are diagnosed with some form of breast cancer each year, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS).

As bad as Texas' start was, as bad as things looked at halftime and the third quarter, as unlucky and plodding as the Longhorns looked, all that turned around in the fourth quarter. Underneath the run is a machine that pays owners whether or not the price moves: a shrinking share count. It is shrinking more slowly now, and that changes what you are buying.
How Did Arrow Pay You While Its Profit Went Nowhere?
Over the past three years, Arrow's net income grew 0.7% a year on average while earnings per share grew 4.7% a year on average. Most of that gap is arithmetic: it retired about 3.3% of its shares a year on average, so each surviving share held a bigger claim on the same profit. Owners got a bigger slice for doing nothing.
Arrow returned 69% over those three years, about 19.0% a year, and still trailed the 76% the S&P 500 returned over the same span. The stock was up 85% at its three-year peak before giving some back. Retiring shares was one driver of that, alongside earnings growth and a changing multiple.

It took until Sunday night, but the Big Ten's Week 1 is officially in the books. All 18 teams have now played at least one game (USC played two before most ever played one), and we're starting to get an idea of how good (or bad) teams might be. Though next week should tell us even more -- a lot more.
There was a big upset, with Rutgers going down to UMass on Thursday to kick things off, and a near upset with Michigan football surviving what was thought to be an overmatched Western Michigan team. For the vast majority of the 2026 Italian Grand Prix, George Russell appeared completely in control of his own destiny. While Russell remained out on track to protect the race lead, Antonelli and Red Bull's Max Verstappen both dove into the pits for fresh tires. The stark difference in grip proved decisive in the final laps, as Antonelli rapidly eliminated the gap and swept past Russell to claim an astonishing victory from 19th on the grid.

Twenty-nine years after the Paris crash that killed Princess Diana, Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul, Trevor Rees-Jones remains the only person who was inside their Mercedes and survived.
Rees-Jones left the Ritz Paris in the front passenger seat shortly after midnight on Aug. 31, 1997. The Mercedes crashed into a pillar in the Pont de l'Alma underpass. Paul and Fayed died at the scene, while Diana was taken to Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, where she died several hours later.
Rees-Jones was not Diana's personal bodyguard. The former British Army paratrooper worked for the Fayed family and had been ******* igned to protect Dodi, which also placed Diana within his security responsibilities while the couple traveled together, as PEOPLE reported on the crash's 29th anniversary.
He survived with severe head, chest and facial injuries. For the investigations that followed, however, one consequence proved especially significant, Rees-Jones could remember leaving the Ritz, but almost nothing reliable about what happened afterward.
French investigators questioned Rees-Jones within weeks of the crash, hoping the sole surviving occupant could explain the Mercedes' final journey. His head injury had left major gaps in his memory, and those early interviews produced little that investigators considered useful.

With Andretti Global's Kyle Kirkwood winning the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, IndyCar's final street race in 2026, there was one common denominator in all six street races: They were won by a car with a Honda engine.
Honda went 6-of-6 on the street circuits (two Kirkwood wins, three Alex Palou wins and one from Marcus Ericsson) while Chevrolet, IndyCar's other engine manufacturer, didn't win any.
To sweep the streets, Honda never really had to scrape by in any race, as a Honda engine led 542 of the 597 (90.7%) of the laps on streets this year while claiming 15 of the 18 podium spots. The manufacturer has won 19 of the last 21 street races dating back to 2023, when it also swept the streets.
Honda has won 10 of the 15 races, including Felix Rosenqvist's win in the Indianapolis 500 for Meyer Shank Racing. After Chevrolet closed the gap with three straight wins in June and July, Honda has separated itself by winning four in a row.
"I think the fact that we won the 500 and we also turn around and we're doing it currently on street courses, it makes me proud for the team," Honda Racing Corporation USA vice president Kelvin Fu told IndyStar. "And a lot of it is, it's just not us, it's Andretti and it's (Chip Ganassi Racing), right? It's a combination of their ability to develop their car control and the drivers and surviving a 147-lap, ******* py street course."

Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad has delivered a blunt verdict on Pakistan, describing them as a "poor side" and backing England to complete a 3-0 clean sweep in the three-Test series.

Speaking on The Love for Cricket Podcast, Broad was critical of Pakistan's current Test team and suggested England should be expected to dominate the series.

"They are a poor side, they are not a really good side. You would imagine and you'd think that England should win 3-0. And pretty comfortably," Broad said.

The former England pacer, however, acknowledged that a clean sweep cannot be taken for granted. He added that failing to win the series would represent a major disappointment for the hosts.

"But that isn't guaranteed. But if England don't come out with a Test match series win, it really is a huge failure," Broad said.

His comments came after Pakistan endured a difficult opening two days in the first Test at Headingley in Leeds. Pakistan were bowled out for just 171 on the opening day, with England's bowlers exposing the tourists' batting problems.

England then took firm control with the bat, reaching 366-8 by stumps on Day 2 to secure a 195-run first-innings lead.

Joe Root and Harry Brook were among four England batters to register half-centuries. Root made 66 and shared a 150-run partnership with Jordan ******* , who scored 73, while Dan Lawrence contributed 51 on his return to Test cricket after two years.

Chevrolet's decline is a symptom of a broader fundamental instability. Foreign automakers' overall share of China's auto market has plummeted, dropping from 53% to around 33% in just two years, while local Chinese companies led by BYD and Geely have taken control.
Ford's version of the retreat, announced on August 13, focuses on Lincoln, its luxury brand. Ford announced that beginning in 2030, it will stop producing Lincoln vehicles in China for the US market and instead expand Lincoln manufacturing domestically. The move notably targets the Lincoln Nautilus, the brand's best-selling model and the only car Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) currently makes in China for American buyers, manufactured at the Changan Ford joint venture in Hangzhou since 2024.
CEO Jim Farley described the move as a statement of identity as much as strategy, claiming that Lincoln is an American brand and Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is America's automaker, telling Reuters that the decision was prompted by the Trump administration's trade policies. Those policies are doing the majority of the work here. The China-built Nautilus is subject to a significant 52.5% tariff in the US, a cost that has become difficult to justify. Despite the fact that the SUV has held up fairly well commercially, its US sales are down only 5.7% year-over-year through July, a smaller decrease than the Lincoln brand overall (down 12.6%).

A federal appeals court removed another procedural obstacle facing more than 3,000 lawsuits accusing Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META), Snap Inc. (NYSE:SNAP), Alphabet, and TikTok of harming young users through allegedly addictive product features.
The Ninth Circuit did not decide whether the companies are liable. It ruled that Section 230 provides a defense against liability, not immunity from being sued, making Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) and TikTok's appeal premature.
Section 230 has already helped narrow the litigation. The lower court found that it barred some feature-related claims while allowing others to proceed. The larger investor question is whether the surviving claims can create a liability channel based on product design rather than content moderation.
With more than 3,000 federal cases, approximately 3,300 additional California state cases, and a major multistate trial approaching, that question is now being tested repeatedly in court.
The strongest point for Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) and Snap Inc. (NYSE:SNAP) is that the Ninth Circuit resolved a procedural question, not the merits of the lawsuits.

Darien, Connecticut takes on Bayonne Central from New Jersey on Friday, Aug. 14 for the Metro region championship and a spot in Williamsport.
This is a rematch of their first game against each other to begin regional tournament; New Jersey won that contest 8-2 on Aug. 8.
Connecticut has played with its back against the wall for much of the summer, surviving seven elimination games. They have persevered to reach their first regional final since 1961.
New Jersey, on the other hand, has been dominant. After their win over Connecticut, they beat New York 12-2. New Jersey last made the Little League World Series in 2021 when Toms River was representing the Garden State.

NAIROBI, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Funding to tackle acute malnutrition in parts of Somalia has dropped by more than 80% this year, Médecins Sans Frontières said on Tuesday, even ‌though one in every four children screened in displacement camps in the southwest is severely ‌malnourished.
MSF Health Adviser Mitchell Sangma said the United States had cut its support to aid agencies in the country from $70 million last year to no funding this year, leaving aid groups struggling to respond as needs rise. Other Western donors have also cut funding.
"This year we have admitted 22,000 nutrition cases, more than 80% higher than last year. When we need this massive scale-up in intervention measures, we are seeing less interest from ‌donor support," Sangma said.
A July survey ⁠by MSF of 888 households in 14 displacement sites in Baidoa, southwest Somalia, found that one in four children was severely malnourished. One third of families ⁠said they were surviving on one meal a day, while only 2% could afford three meals.
Somalia is facing a worsening hunger crisis after repeated failed rainy seasons devastated crops, killed livestock and depleted water supplies. Conflict and insecurity have compounded the crisis, disrupting livelihoods and limiting access to food, healthcare and aid.

Troy Aikman took some brutal hits during his 12 years playing quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, racking up 10 documented concussions before he finally retired in 2001. Things got scary toward the end of his career when he suffered four concussions in just his last 20 starts. Aikman still calls two of those injuries severe.
Back then, the NFL didn't consider those head traumas as seriously as it does now, so he was constantly thrown back into games without any of the medical protocols or safety checks that players get today.
The best example happened during the 1993 NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers. Aikman took a knee to the head from a 49ers defender. According to reports, the hit caused temporary amnesia. He had to watch the film later just to see what happened.
Now at 58, Aikman openly admits he thinks about the long-term effects from time to time, but he doesn't let it ruin his life.
