Though he tore his ACL in December, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been fully cleared to practice, head coach Andy Reid said in his Friday press conference.
"Pat's doing great with his [rehab]," Reid said. "Right now he's got clearance to practice and do all the different periods that we have in this camp. We'll just take it day by day and see how he does. He'll have plenty of eyes on him from coaches to trainers to doctors.
"But right now, he's been cleared to go ahead and participate fully."
Does that mean he's going to play Week 1?
"I'm optimistic, and I know he is extremely optimistic," Reid said. "But I think you've got to see how things go here. Let's just see where we're at and not make any predictions or anything else. Take it day by day and see where it goes."

HNB are reporting that Porto are showing interest in Anderlecht defender Ali Maamar. The 21-year-old right-back has been able to take advantage of injuries to other defenders at the back end of last season to showcase his talents and now, Porto are one side showing serious interest in him. However, Anderlecht have injuries in that position, and are unlikely to allow Maamar to leave without lining up a replacement.
Porto have not yet made a concrete offer for the young Moroccan international, but are certainly monitoring him. Mamaar made his Anderlecht debut during the 2024/2025 season, going on to play 20 games for the senior team, providing two **** ists. Last season he built on this with 32 appearances and four **** ists.
Anderlecht currently have Ilay Camara and Killian Sardella as options at right-back, but both have injury concerns, making the sale of Mamaar to Porto unlikely until replacements could be found.

Jul. 23—BEMIDJI — Michael Bitzer has been tethered to Bemidji for a long time, even when he didn't know it.
It started in Moorhead's youth hockey program. He took the crease in games at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse.
When the Sanford Center opened in 2010, the Spuds took a trip to Bemidji to watch a game against Colorado College. Two years later, Bitzer backstopped Moorhead to a Section 8AA championship in the same building.
While playing in the United States Hockey League, Bitzer committed to play for Bemidji State. His four-year career from 2014-18 included a Western Collegiate Hockey ***** ociation championship in 2017, along with a top 10 Hobey Baker Award finalist nod.
Now, Bitzer has built a life in Germany. He's preparing to enter his eighth professional season overseas. Still, the invisible string occasionally reels him back to the First City on the Mississippi.

The Detroit Tigers have released a veteran catcher.
The Tigers released nine-year veteran Tomás Nido from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, July 21. In his place, the Tigers signed veteran catcher Carlos Pérez to a minor-league deal on Wednesday, July 22, ******* igning him to Toledo.
Nido, who made his MLB debut with the New York Mets in 2017, originally signed a contract with the Tigers on Sept. 17, 2024. Nido appeared in 10 games for the Tigers in 2025, putting up a .704 OPS in 37 plate appearances in April and May.

The Trotters are preparing for their return to the Championship after beating Stockport County in the League One play-off final in May.

The New York Jets will be wearing a new alternate helmet when they host the Green Bay Packers during Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season. The Jets debuted a new "White Out" helmet, featuring a white shell and white facemask, that will be worn during the team's home opener at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 20 with the Packers in town.
Here's the new look awaiting the Packers in Week 2:
The helmet also includes a green stripe down the middle and a green "Jets" logo on each side. New York will match the helmet with their "Legacy White" uniforms to create the new look.
The Jets are one of many teams, including the Packers, who have debuted an all-white helmet to go with all-white uniforms in recent years. The Jets have a "White Out" set, while the Packers call their all-whites "Winter Warning."
The Jets wearing all white at home in Week 2 will almost certainly force the Packers to wear their traditional home uniform on the road. Aldrich Potgieter came in third in the Last Chance Qualifier on Monday morning, but later in the afternoon he found his way into the field of the 154th Open Championship anyway. That's because South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen announced he was withdrawing from the championship at Royal Birkdale, opening a spot for Potgieter, the first alternate and a fellow South African.
No reason was listed for Oosthuizen's WD. The 2010 Open champion has played every year since his victory at St. Andrews except for a WD in 2013. But in three of the last four years he has missed the cut.
Since joining the LIV Golf League in 2022, Oosthuizen, 43, has played in five majors but made the cut only once (T-60, 2022 PGA).
Despite missing out on qualifying at the Last Chance Qualifier, there seemed a reasonable chance Potgieter might have still gotten into the field. Sam Burns had said previously that he wasn't going to play in the Open because his wife is due to have their second child soon, potentially setting himself up for a WD before the event. Matti Schmid now is listed as first alternate, with Andrew Wilson, runner-up in the Last Chances qualifier, the second alternate.

Another Oregon Duck has been selected in the 2026 MLB Draft. Center fielder Jack Brooks was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 19th round, raising an intriguing question for the Oregon star.
Brooks has bounced around the field during his three seasons in Eugene, but excelled as a center fielder for the Ducks last season. He also set the table from the bottom of the lineup, routinely finding a way on base (.370 on-base percentage) to line up RBI opportunities for the sluggers. Brooks also led the Ducks with 16 stolen bases.
As a late-round selection, there is no slot money for Brooks, meaning the Nationals would have to negotiate with the speedy Duck using bonus pool money if both sides want to agree to begin Brooks' pro career. Otherwise, Brooks does have another year of eligibility remaining at the collegiate level, and the Ducks would surely like to have him back.
Given the amount of production the Ducks have lost this offseason, Brooks' veteran leadership and at-bats would be welcome in Oregon's dugout next season. However, Brooks could be ready to start his pro career and leave Oregon behind.
Brooks will have until July 27 to decide whether or not he will return to school. He hit .236 last season with six home runs and 27 RBIs.

Brendon McCullum has left his role as England's Test head coach but will remain in charge of the national white-ball set-up, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced Sunday.
England have lost seven of their last nine Tests under the former New Zealand captain.
This includes a woeful 4-1 Ashes defeat in Australia in 2025/26 and last month's 2-1 loss at home to New Zealand, with both series overshadowed by allegations of a team drinking culture.
"I've absolutely loved coaching the Test side and I'm incredibly proud of what we've achieved together," said McCullum in an ECB statement, adding: "Of course I'm gutted not to be continuing, but I respect the decision."
Former England captain Ben Stokes announced his international retirement midway through what turned out to a crushing defeat in the third and final Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge -- the final match of McCullum's red-ball reign.

FSU baseball commit Kaden Waechter has been drafted by the San Francisco Giants with the 55th overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft.
He was FSU's highest-ranked commit in its 2026 recruiting class. The Tampa native has been committed to the Seminoles since December of 2024, but it now seems unlikely that he will make it to Tallahassee. While he still has to sign with the Giants, it is extremely rare for players taken this early to make it to college.
Waechter is ranked as the No. 57 overall player and No. 11 right-handed pitcher in the 2026 MLB Draft by MLB. He attended Jesuit High School, which has produced former FSU pitchers Wes Mendes and Jamie Arnold.
He had another excellent season at Jesuit, going 6-3 with a 1.15 ERA in 61 innings. He allowed 16 runs on 34 hits and 15 walks, holding opponents to a .159 batting average and striking out 82 batters.
Waechter finished his prep career 13-5 with a 1.01 ERA in 104 1/3 innings, striking out 135 batters and walking 28. Opponents hit .154 off him and had just two home runs in 370 at-bats.

The Philadelphia 76ers have become one of the frontrunners to acquire LeBron James in free agency, especially after they landed five-time All-Star and 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics just days ago. With Brown, two-time scoring champion Joel Embiid and young star guard Tyrese Maxey, they have a ready-made contender that James could potentially walk into and claim his fifth world ***** le with.
One man who knows about coming to the City of Brotherly Love and winning it all is Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. After spending his first six seasons with the New York Giants, Barkley joined the Eagles prior to the 2024 season and then had a campaign for the ages. He became just one of a handful of NFL players to ever record 2,000 rushing yards in a single season before leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl championship at the end of the season.

If James were to head to Philly, he would have to accept a much-reduced offensive role, and it is questionable whether he would be content doing so. As the Los Angeles Lakers' third scoring option this past season, he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 ***** ists a game despite turning 41 years of age in late December.

Ben Johnson took the Chicago Bears to the next level during the 2025-26 season, and that's something to celebrate. But, they didn't go all the way.
Sure, it would have been crazy for the Bears to make it to the Super Bowl in Johnson's first season with the team, but don't tell him that, because you know he wanted it.
So, Johnson has stepped up during the NFL offseason and is reshaping this lineup. However, there's a piece of the puzzle missing. He doesn't have a superstar edge rusher, and in a league that's become almost all about edge rushers, that's a problem.
The edge rusher is the heart of the defense. He applies pressure to the quarterback and can stop great plays before they start. Teams who have the best edge rushers usually have the best defenses, too.

With LIV Golf's future in serious doubt, its players must be considering a return to the PGA Tour.
The Saudi Public Investment Fund withdrew their support for the tour this year, leaving them scrambling for investors. If they cannot find new investment for next season and beyond, then they risk folding entirely.
As it stands, players face a one-year suspension from the PGA Tour following their most recent LIV event, so the likes of Jon Rahm would have to wait 12 months to return if LIV were to fold.
But one former LIV player has laid out the blueprint after leaving the tour early, and he eyes a PGA Tour return.
Eugenio Chacarra joined LIV Golf in 2022, but after three seasons, he decided to leave the tour and earned membership on the DP World Tour instead. He's won three times on the tour since joining, and looks dead set to earn a PGA Tour membership.

When Brazil and Egypt were knocked out of the World Cup, Liverpool lost their most recognizable remaining representatives in current star Alisson Becker and recently departed Mohamed Salah. However, the Reds do still have one player at the tournament in Spain’s Victor Muñoz.
Liverpool fans haven’t yet seen him play for the club given he only signed at the start of the World Cup, and as he was just working back from an injury at the time he hasn’t actually played for Spain yet at the Word Cup, but for those keeping track at home he’s Liverpool’s last player at the tournament.
He was also asked this week about his decision to leave Osasuna and head to the Premier League. It’s a question he’s been asked before, crediting new head coach Andoni Iraola as a big part of his choice, and he reiterated that when asked about where he’ll be playing net season.
“I think the Premier League is the right place for me with my abilities and style of play,” Munoz said. “I think this next step was the right one. [Iraloa] gave me a glimpse into how his teams play, how it can suit me, how he likes his wingers to stay wide, be able to get to the byline, be hard-working.
“I think I made the right choice with that next step because those are characteristics that I strongly identify with. His style of play, his pressing, how he wants to manage teams—I think I’m a player, because of my characteristics, who could fit in well so that’s also why I took that step.”

The 2026 NFL offseason has slowed to a crawl now that the players have gone on break for the summer. For a team like the Atlanta Falcons, training camp can't come soon enough. With a new head coach, a new offensive coordinator and possibly a new starting quarterback, it makes every rep that much more important.
