Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is available to return to playing immediately after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) partially upheld his appeal against a four-year ban for doping.
The Ukraine international, 25, has not played a competitive match since November 2024, having been provisionally suspended by the Football ***** ociation the following month after returning an "adverse finding" for banned substance meldonium.
He was subsequently given the maximum four-year ban by the FA but appealed against the decision to Cas, who have ruled Mudryk can return to competition "with immediate effect" after he accepted breaking anti-doping rules and agreed to a suspension equal to the time already served.
Chelsea said they are looking forward to getting Mudryk back to "full fitness, back into the squad and back on to the pitch" and he will join their pre-season tour.

I admit to growing frustrated at what I perceived to be a stagnant team falling behind, due to a manager who stubbornly stook to his system despite its apparent failings. But I still viewed Howe in the same company as King Kev and Sir Bobby, the only three managers in my lifetime that I have truly loved.
The memories of the last five years will remain with me forever. Eddie Howe's black and white army gave something to me and my daughter which brought us back together, my daughter who was being taken from me by teenage, by boyfriend, by growing up. My eternal thanks to the man for that.

NEW DELHI: The decision to name 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as East Zone vice-captain for the upcoming Duleep Trophy has raised eyebrows across the cricketing world, but the selectors believe they are investing in the future of Indian cricket.

With experienced wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan appointed captain, Sooryavanshi's elevation as deputy is not being viewed as an immediate leadership burden but as an opportunity to accelerate his development as a cricketer.

One member of the East Zone selection committee explained the thinking behind the move, saying the teenager was not being handed the captaincy but was being prepared for greater responsibilities in the future.

"He has not been made the captain. He has only been made the vice-captain. The captain is Ishan Kishan. Besides, Ishan is a wicketkeeper, so he will be actively involved throughout the day. It is not as though Vaibhav will be captaining the team all day. As he grows, he is maturing day by day. Giving him more responsibility will help him mature even further," former Odisha Ranji player and selector Pravanjan Mullick told Cricbuzz.
Mullick revealed that the selectors' decision was based on Sooryavanshi's rapid rise and his ability to handle responsibility despite his age.

"This is a great opportunity for him to take on the responsibility of being vice-captain in the Duleep Trophy. He wants to do well for the country, and we believe giving young players responsibility is important. Who knows? We are keeping our fingers crossed that one day he could even become India's captain. That is the thought behind giving him the vice-captaincy," he told Cricbuzz.

The selectors also considered Sooryavanshi's previous leadership experience. The teenage batter has already served as vice-captain of Bihar in first-class cricket and was part of India's leadership group during the Under-19 World Cup triumph.

"He has been doing very well for the country and also had an excellent IPL season with Rajasthan Royals. He is also the vice-captain of Bihar in first-class cricket," Mullick said.

The 15-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the last year. He became one of the youngest players to feature in the IPL and went on to top the batting charts during the tournament, earning widespread praise for his fearless approach. He was also named Player of the Series during India's tour of Zimbabwe.
The East Zone selection committee meeting was held at Eden Gardens, with representatives from the Cricket ***** ociation of Bengal, Jharkhand State Cricket ***** ociation, Tripura Cricket ***** ociation, Bihar Cricket ***** ociation and Odisha Cricket ***** ociation taking part.

Mullick clarified that there was no discussion with Sooryavanshi before the decision was made.

"No, none at all. It was a collective decision taken by all the selectors from the eastern states. He has the ability to handle responsibility and is capable of leading the team when required," he said.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons' quarterback competition will have to wait another day after coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Tua Tagovailoa sustained a minor injury, and he'll be back "sooner rather than later."
The Falcons are left with one active quarterback for 11-on-11s on the team's first day of training camp as Michael Penix Jr. continues to recover from an ACL tear and veteran Trevor Siemian was released Wednesday morning in a series of roster moves.
Penix will be available for 7-on-7s. Jack Strand, Atlanta's sole healthy signal-caller, will see most — if not all — snaps during 11-on-11s.
Stefanski described Tagovailoa's injury as a "flare-up" and said he doesn't anticipate a long absence from the former Dolphins quarterback. He said Tagovailoa will be present but not participating.
The first-year Falcons coach kept the details of Tagovailoa's injury secret, saying that one of the perks of training camp is not having to divulge every detail.

The Atlanta Falcons are entering the 2026 season with a new look on the right side of their offensive line for the second consecutive year, hoping the latest changes will provide stability and strengthen the protection in front of their offense.
The transition began after longtime right tackle Kaleb McGary announced his retirement during the offseason. McGary, the 31st overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, started 92 games for Atlanta from 2019 through 2024 before a knee injury sidelined him for the entire 2025 season. His retirement marked the end of a significant chapter for the Falcons' offensive line.
Atlanta temporarily filled the void last season with veteran Elijah Wilkinson, but his departure in free agency left the Falcons searching once again for a dependable starter.
The team's answer came in the form of veteran tackle Jawaan Taylor. Selected four picks after McGary in the 2019 draft, Taylor brings a wealth of experience to Atlanta after spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs. Over seven NFL seasons, he has started 120 regular-season games and appeared in nine playoff contests, giving the Falcons a proven veteran with championship experience.

With the MLB trade deadline under two weeks away, the Chicago Cubs need to figure out who they should pursue to upgrade their rotation and bullpen.
There are some obvious options, like Tarik Skubal and Mason Miller, but both will be expensive. Instead, the Cubs could look elsewhere for more realistic trade targets who would still be huge upgrades.
Former MLB GM Jim Bowden of The Athletic identified San Francisco Giants left-handed Robbie Rays as the team's "perfect" trade target this summer to upgrade the starting rotation.
"The Cubs need to keep trying to upgrade their rotation," Bowden writes. "Ray will be a free agent this offseason and would be a solid get for Chicago."

Former Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest striker Britt ******* ombalonga has joined National League North side Harborough Town on an undisclosed contract.
The 33-year-old, who has spent much of his career playing in the Championship and League One, was released by League Two side Barnet at the end of last season.
Assombalonga, a former DR Congo international, who has also had spells at Watford, Peterborough and Turkish side Antalyaspor, has made 486 senior appearances, scoring 173 goals.
"With Britt moving locally, we had the opportunity to bring him in for pre-season and see whether he still had the bit between his teeth," said Bees boss Mitch Austin.
"I'm going to be on him because I want him to have a high-scoring season with us. We want to get the best out of him while making sure he enjoys his football."

The Arizona Cardinals reported for training camp on Wednesday, and then on Thursday, before their first practice, they made a few procedural moves with injuries. Per the NFL transaction report, four players were placed on the preseason PUP (physically unable to perform) list.
Two were not surprising. Two were.
Cornerback Garrett Williams and tight end Tip Reiman were placed on PUP for injuries that have been known for a while. Reiman is coming back from a serious ankle injury, and Williams tore his Achilles last December. Williams was never going to be able to start training camp. There was hope that Reiman could.
The other two were surprising — left tackle Paris Johnson and outside linebacker Josh Sweat.
Johnson had a knee injury at the end of last season but was healthy enough to practice in the offseason program. Sweat played every game last season and ended the year healthy. He didn't participate in the offseason program, but he wasn't there for the voluntary part, opting to work out on his own.

The Tigers released nine-year veteran Tomás Nido from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, July 21. In his place, the Tigers signed veteran catcher Carlos Pérez to a minor-league deal on Wednesday, July 22, ****** igning him to Toledo.
Nido, who made his MLB debut with the New York Mets in 2017, originally signed a contract with the Tigers on Sept. 17, 2024. Nido appeared in 10 games for the Tigers in 2025, putting up a .704 OPS in 37 plate appearances in April and May.

On paper, the Washington Commanders' offensive line should be a team strength in 2026. At left tackle, the Commanders have the NFL's highest-paid offensive lineman, Laremy Tunsil, with 2025 first-round pick Josh Conerly Jr. on the opposite side at right tackle.
The Commanders also have Sam Cosmi at guard, with Brandon Coleman and Chris Paul battling it out at the other guard spot. There's truly only one question on Washington's offensive line in 2026: can Nick Allegretti adequately replace Tyler Biadasz at center?
While the Commanders feel great about their offensive line, numerous ******* ysts have ranked Washington's offensive line among the 10 worst in the league going into 2026. Is that fair? Longtime ESPN NFL ******* yst Ryan Clark was among the many prominent on-air personalities let go by the network this week. And now, we've finally heard from the former Super Bowl champion.
Clark — who joined ESPN in 2015 and won an Emmy in 2023 — had reportedly soured among ESPN brass due to both his on-air and off-air conduct. The tipping point, according to The Athletic, was when he disparaged colleague Peter Schrager on Get Up for not being a former player.
Clark apologized for that altercation, but the damage might have already been done.
On Tuesday, Clark took to social media and wished his former colleagues and those among the layoffs the best of luck.
Clark was not alone to see his time at ESPN end this week.

Polk State freshman guard and former Winter Haven player Eric Dailey had everyone's support all year, which materialized into the All-American JUCO Showcase selection in Atlanta over the weekend.
And it was all because of his coaches and teammates preaching to him he was the best player on the team, which also meant he had to lead by example. Both things can be true, as Dailey went on to average 17.1 points and 3.4 rebounds.
"It feels great to represent Winter Haven. I've been with them since I was in elementary so I'm grateful to have been a part of an amazing program and I will always have love for coach (head boys basketball coach Tyrone) Woodside and Winter Haven," Dailey said.

The Buffalo Bills claimed a player previously on a division rival, and though a roster longshot, he has some traits worth betting on.
Buffalo Bills rookies report to training camp July 21, with veterans following one week later. So it isn’t a surprise the front office is making moves in the final stretch of the offseason’s dead period.

On Tuesday, the Bills claimed a player from the division rival New York Jets to add depth on offense.
Per Tuesday’s NFL wire, the Bills claimed wide receiver Quentin Skinner, who was recently waived by the Jets. The Bills terminated Deven Thompkins to make room for Skinner.

Skinner is an intriguing addition to a Bills wide receiver group dealing with its usual uncertainty. Though Skinner is unlikely to play a big role on offense, a strong training camp could make Buffalo consider using a 53-man roster spot on him. It will be an uphill battle, but he has some noteworthy traits. That starts with his size.

Skinner, 24 years old, is 6-foot-5. He could provide the Bills with some size in the red zone. However, his experience is very limited. As an undrafted rookie, he recorded one catch while playing for the Jets. Ironically, that ten-yard catch happened against the Bills in Week 18 (perhaps it’s an explanation of the Bills’ interest).

Before that, he led the Jets with 114 receiving yards in three preseason games.

At Kansas, Skinner recorded 80 catches for 1,584 yards and 11 touchdowns throughout three seasons. In 2024, his senior year, he even led the Big 12 in yards per reception at 22.3. That and his size will earn him a chance to prove himself with the Bills.

The Tigers traded outfielder Jahmai Jones to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, July 14. They will receive a player to be named later in the exchange.
The Tigers designated Jones for **** ignment on July 9 in a move that brought up catcher Eduardo Valencia. The righty signed with the Tigers as a free agent ahead of the 2025 season as a specialist against left-handed pitching and immediately produced, slashing .287/.387/.550 over 150 plate appearances, mostly as a designated hitter. However, his production fell hard in 2026, with his .440 OPS the fourth-worst in MLB this season among players with at least 100 plate appearances.
Jones made his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Angels on Aug. 31, 2020, and also saw time with the Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees before finding himself in Detroit. He had his breakout season for the Tigers in 2025, recording career highs in home runs (7), RBIs (23), hits (37) and OPS (.937). However, he has followed his most productive season with his least productive, as Jones has been worth minus-1.2 fWAR over 57 games, third worst in MLB.

Over the weekend, the United States named its 20-person roster for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, and two former Terps will be playing for Team USA — with one special distinction.
Leah Crouse, who played her graduate year with Maryland in 2022, is one of the athletes named. Now plying her club trade with Tokyo Hockey, the 26-year-old Crouse has earned 72 caps for the women’s national team and will be counted on at the highest level.
Emma DeBerdine was named one of two captains for the team at this World Cup. The five-year Terp, who had to take a break year from school in order to play on the team that went to the 2024 Paris Olympics, has earned 69 caps for the national team and will earn more this summer.

Not only did it send the Three Lions into the semi-finals for just the fourth time in their history, it also saw Jordan Pickford and Harry Kane climb to the top of England's all-time World Cup appearance rankings.
Pickford completed the full 120 minutes to help England keep Norway at bay, making his 18th World Cup appearance and overtaking Peter Shilton, who previously held the record with 17. If, as expected, the Everton goalkeeper starts the semi-final against Argentina, he will extend his lead at the top of the list.
The quarter-final also marked Pickford's 90th England cap. During his international career, he has recorded 58 wins, 18 draws and 14 defeats, moving level with Bryan Robson as England's 14th most-capped player.

The Green Bay Packers recently extended the contract of veteran linebacker and special teamer Isaiah McDuffie, per reporting from Over the Cap.
The extension is worth $4.85 million over one additional year, keeping McDuffie under contract in Green Bay through the 2027 season. His previous contract, a two-year deal, was set to expire following the 2026 season. His new extension includes a $1.5 million signing bonus and a $750,000 roster bonus due if he's on the roster on the third day of the new league year in 2027.
McDuffie's cap number increased to $4,725,000 in 2026, while his cap number in 2027 will be $5,100,000. The only fully guaranteed money in 2027 is the prorated $750,000 from his new signing bonus.
McDuffie may not be a projected starter in Jonathan Gannon's base 3-4 defense, but he's a quality backup and full-time special teamer. Considering newcomer Zaire Franklin is coming off a poor final season in Indianapolis and just turned 30 years old, McDuffie is a strong insurance plan for both 2026 and 2027.
The extension gives McDuffie a pay ******* p in 2026 while providing the Packers an additional year of contractual stability without massive guaranteed money at risk in 2027.

Team sports franchises around the globe have skyrocketed in value over the past several years, and the ceiling just keeps on getting lifted.
This week, the Seattle Seahawks were sold for $9.612 billion, an NFL record and the second-highest price paid for an American sports franchise (the Los Angeles Lakers were sold for $10 billion last year).
The Seahawks are the first NFL team to be sold since the Washington Commanders were purchased for $6.05 billion in 2023. Before that, the Denver Broncos went for $4.65 billion in 2022.
Prices are rising. In 2025, Forbes valued the Seahawks at $6.7 billion, which ranked them 14th out of the 32 NFL franchises. That was a 23 percent rise from their 2024 valuation of $5.59 billion.
The top-three valued NFL teams in 2025 were the Dallas Cowboys ($13 billion), the Los Angeles Rams ($10.5 billion), and the New York Giants ($10.1 billion).

Quarterback consistency is a big factor in a team maintaining success, which is extremely hard to do in the current college football landscape. However, the Oregon Ducks have been a great example of getting it right at quarterback year after year.
In a recent article, Blake Brockermeyer lists the Ducks' quarterback room as the best in college football. Here is what he had to say about the Ducks' signal callers:
"Dante Moore is my top-ranked QB entering the season season and it is still baffling that he turned down life-changing money to return to Oregon. More power to him.
The Ducks have also done a strong job over the last few seasons of adding capable backup quarterbacks with starting experience as insurance. Dylan Raiola is now the next man up after starting the last few seasons for Nebraska, giving Oregon one of the rare quarterback rooms with both high-end talent and real experience behind the starter. Moore resurrected his career by transferring to Oregon and learning behind Dillon Gabriel for a year, and Raiola is going to replicate that come 2027.
Oregon's quarterbacks enter the season with 42 combined starts on a loaded roster that looks like my favorite to win the national ***** le. In today's college football, that kind of quarterback depth is almost impossible to find."

The 47-year-old ended his involvement with the Boston-based firm on Friday, adding to the sense of top-level instability at Liverpool, with his decision reportedly owing to frustration at the company abandoning plans to establish a multi-club model.

FIFA's store says each segment of turf is 17.5 by 17.5 by 17.5, although it doesn't specify whether that figure is inches, centimeters or millimeters. Soccer's governing body did not immediately respond to an email requesting detail of the dimensions.
