Over the weekend, images went viral on social media showing a mostly empty stadium for the USC Trojans' home opener against the San Jose State Spartans. The attendance was so poor that USC's athletic department even felt the need to issue a statement. Now, Fox Sports' Joel Klatt is explaining the issue with the attendance the best way he can.
On Monday's episode of The Joel Klatt Show, Klatt explained that the attendance at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday afternoon was so sparse for one simple reason: people in Los Angeles are "soft."
While there are likely a lot of factors that went into the low attendance for Saturday's game – the week 0 schedule, an inferior opponent, and a noon local kickoff – Klatt blames one thing for the lackluster crowd: the weather.
While there were sunny skies throughout Saturday's contest, Klatt claims it was simply too hot for the Southern California residents, who have grown accustomed to "perfect" weather throughout the year.
"We in the Los Angeles area, in Southern California, are soft," Klatt said simply. "I am as soft as they come. And I have now been here since 2013. And guess what – over 90 [degrees] is too hot, below 56 [degrees] is too cold."

Twenty-nine years after the Paris crash that killed Princess Diana, Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul, Trevor Rees-Jones remains the only person who was inside their Mercedes and survived.
Rees-Jones left the Ritz Paris in the front passenger seat shortly after midnight on Aug. 31, 1997. The Mercedes crashed into a pillar in the Pont de l'Alma underpass. Paul and Fayed died at the scene, while Diana was taken to Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, where she died several hours later.
Rees-Jones was not Diana's personal bodyguard. The former British Army paratrooper worked for the Fayed family and had been ******* igned to protect Dodi, which also placed Diana within his security responsibilities while the couple traveled together, as PEOPLE reported on the crash's 29th anniversary.
He survived with severe head, chest and facial injuries. For the investigations that followed, however, one consequence proved especially significant, Rees-Jones could remember leaving the Ritz, but almost nothing reliable about what happened afterward.
French investigators questioned Rees-Jones within weeks of the crash, hoping the sole surviving occupant could explain the Mercedes' final journey. His head injury had left major gaps in his memory, and those early interviews produced little that investigators considered useful.

After being awarded no players off the NFL's waiver wire on Monday, the Denver Broncos have reached agreements with 17 players to join their practice squad.
Two notable players not on the list are Justin Joly (a fifth-round draft pick) and cornerback Reese Taylor. Both players were claimed off the waiver wire by the Miami Dolphins after being cut by Denver on Sunday. Also not on the list is linebacker Taurean York, who was among the team's notable undrafted free agent signings this spring.

And you also don't need to play it short from a goal kick either just to invite all the pressure; you can simply bypass all that and boot it up to your complete striker to knock it down or create for himself. Football doesn't have to be complicated: if you can be faster and stronger than the other guy, you already have an advantage.

With its latest $1.1 billion fund, Andreessen Horowitz is getting physical (with AI).
The firm announced that the Machine Age Fund will invest "into all of the computer infrastructure on which AI runs, including chips, memory, networking, and storage," and that this includes "full systems for running AI: from data centers to robotics to home AI appliances."
General partners Martin Casado and Raghu Raghuram will lead the new strategy, which will target both early- and growth-stage companies. Partners from a16z's Infrastructure, American Dynamism and Growth funds will also invest from the new vehicle.
The fund represents a doubling down on its expansion into hardware investments, especially the AI infrastructure bets it has made in defense.
"Dedicated hardware and robotics funds have existed for years, but when one of the largest firms in venture stands up a fund specifically for that, you pay attention," said PitchBook fund strategies ****** yst Nick Rescigno. "Advances in physical AI are making hardware capable of things that weren't achievable a few years ago."

NOVI SAD, Serbia (AP) — Small boats stand idle on cracked ground in a shriveled side channel of the Danube River in northern Serbia, where the water has receded into a couple of shrinking ponds under pressure from extreme drought and heat. Fish circle in the shallow waters.
"This is all we have, these two little ponds that are full of juvenile fish," fisherman Dusan Jovanovic said. He said the fish are in danger because there is too little water and its temperature is over 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit).
"If they start to die, they will all die at once," Jovanovic said.
Persistent drought and scorching heat this summer have ravaged ecosystems and businesses across the region, from a lake in Slovenia and the side channel of the Danube in Serbia, to fish farms in Bosnia, the Czech Republic, Romania and Hungary.
The fish industry has been hit especially hard, with damage estimated in the millions of euros (dollars). This is adding to the already high toll caused by problems with energy and water supplies, devastated crops, losses in river traffic and trade.

Angel Reese will be available for the Atlanta Dream's next game after the WNBA reversed a call that initially carried an automatic suspension. Reese was **** sed her eighth technical foul of the season during the fourth quarter of Atlanta's 101-83 loss to the Portland Fire on Friday. Under WNBA rules, that total would have resulted in a one-game suspension for Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Lynx.
The league reviewed the play after the game and rescinded the technical foul, ESPN's Alexa Philippou reported on X. Reese was returned to seven technical fouls and avoided the suspension. The play occurred after Reese and Portland guard Carla Leite became tangled while battling for rebounding position. Reese appeared to push Leite as the two separated, prompting officials to issue the technical.
That decision did not survive the league's review.
Although Reese escaped an immediate punishment, she has little room for error over the remainder of the regular season. Her next technical foul would again be her eighth, automatically triggering a one-game suspension. Additional technicals later in the season could lead to further suspensions under the WNBA's escalating disciplinary system.

The Atlanta Dream had a rough go of things on Friday night. The Dream entered the action against the Portland Fire looking to stave off the Indiana Fever and hold onto the fourth spot in the standings. Unfortunately for Angel Reese and company, Portland, which plays hard every night despite its record, pulled off a 101-83 upset, while the Fever defeated the Connecticut Sun 111-91. As a result, Indiana overtook the fourth spot in the standings and would have home-court advantage over Atlanta if the season ended today.
It was an uncharacteristically off night for Angel Reese. Even though she finished with another impressive double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds, Reese was just 5-for-14 from the field and let her frustrations boil over several times during the game.
One such occurrence came at the end of the first quarter, when she missed a shot at the rim, felt she deserved a foul called on her defender, and made her feelings very clear to the referee.
Reese's actions during the game earned her some heavy criticism from fans online.
"My favorite clip from last night was when she hit them with the "too small" celebration while losing by 13 and shooting like 30%," one fan posted on X.
