A Michigan retiree couple needs roughly $927,000 invested at a 4% withdrawal rate, versus $1.07 million in Florida.
Florida homeowners pay $8,471 yearly for insurance versus $2,415 in Michigan, a $6,000 gap that requires $151,000 in extra savings.
Michigan exempts Social Security and offers married couples a $128,080 retirement deduction, potentially zeroing state tax on a $37,000 IRA withdrawal.

Retiring to a lake town in Michigan or Wisconsin often raises questions about snow and winter conditions compared with a move to Florida. Winter is one factor in that comparison, but the rest of the picture gets mentioned less often: insurance, taxes, housing, and summers. This piece runs the numbers for a couple at full retirement age.

About 42% of top-10% income families have seven-figure retirement accounts, compared with just 1% of middle-income families.
Married, college-educated homeowners make up about 20% of families but nearly 75% of retirement-account millionaires.
Nearly a third of retirement-account millionaires are families headed by someone ages 55 to 64.
Only about 7% of U.S. families have $1 million or more in retirement accounts. But that milestone is much more common among families that share several key traits.
Among the roughly 9.4 million families with $1 million or more in retirement accounts, about 97% own their homes, 84% are headed by someone with a bachelor's degree, and 61% are in the top 10% by income. That's according to an Investopedia ***** ysis of the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances, released earlier this month. All figures are in 2025 dollars.

Tensions are reportedly rising behind the scenes at Old Trafford as the Glazer family grow increasingly frustrated with Sir Jim Ratcliffe's leadership. Despite the INEOS founder taking control of football operations earlier this year, the club has slumped to its worst start to a league campaign in nearly four decades.
Ratcliffe acquired a minority stake in United in 2024, a deal worth £1.2 billion that handed his INEOS group total control over football operations. The agreement included an additional £245 million injection to upgrade Old Trafford's fading infrastructure, taking his overall financial commitment to approximately £1.5bn. However, two years on, the anticipated revival has failed to materialise.
Instead of progressing, the Red Devils find themselves embroiled in a deepening crisis. They are currently enduring an eight-game winless run across all competitions, managing just a single Premier League victory so far this term. Hovering a perilous two points above the foot of the table, this represents United's poorest start to a campaign in almost 40 years.
Watching from afar, the Glazer family are reportedly astonished by the rapid decline under the new sporting regime. A source close to the American owners told the Daily Mail that the current situation is "a travesty and not what they expected or were promised." The insider added that the Glazers feel "they have never run the club this way."
The frustration runs deep, with the current hierarchy allegedly viewing the INEOS approach as a complete failure. According to ESPN, the Glazers believe Ratcliffe "couldn't have masterminded a worse situation" at Old Trafford.

The iconic skyline of Milan is set for a historic transformation as the city's two footballing heavyweights prepare to move into a state-of-the-art new home. In a move that signals a massive shift in the financial landscape of Serie A, AC Milan and Inter have officially secured a record-breaking naming rights partnership with Italian insurance giant Generali for their future shared arena.
Milan and Inter have agreed a staggering 20-year naming rights contract with Generali, which ESPN reports is worth €650 million (£545m/$725m). The new 71,500-capacity venue will be officially known as the Generali Stadium, effectively replacing the historic San Siro. The clubs purchased the required land from the city last November for €197m, paving the way for the eventual demolition of their legendary current home.
Construction is targeted to begin in 2028, with the first matches scheduled for the 2031-32 campaign, pending necessary approvals. Spearheaded by respective ownership groups RedBird Capital Partners and Oaktree, the stadium project also anchors a wider urban regeneration plan featuring new retail, leisure, and green ******* es.
The massive financial commitment eclipses the $700m agreement struck by Crypto.com in 2021 for the Los Angeles arena shared by the Lakers and Kings. It stands as a monumental boost for the two Serie A giants as they look to modernise and bridge the matchday revenue gap with Europe's elite.
A new symbol for Milano.
A new home for future generations of fans.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones once admitted that Donald Trump's involvement in the NFL's national anthem debate was damaging to the league, describing the president's interest as "problematic".
Jones made the comments in 2018, when the NFL was attempting to resolve the controversy surrounding players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice.
The debate had become a major talking point after Trump publicly criticised players who protested and urged the league to punish those who refused to stand.
Speaking at the Cowboys' training camp in California, Jones acknowledged that Trump's comments were creating difficulties for NFL owners.
"His interest in what we're doing is problematic from my chair, and I would say in general the owners' chair," Jones said.

Seattle Seahawks RB Jadarian Price (chest) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 29.
SOURCE: Seahawks.com
Why it Matters: Price has a chance to return to action Monday night, but with Zach Charbonnet (knee) potentially making his debut and Emanuel Wilson and George Holani also in the mix, it is going to be hard to know which Seattle back to trust. Fantasy owners with more reliable options should probably shy away from the Seattle backfield until a pecking order becomes better established.

NEW YORK (AP) — When Jake Bauers gloved the final out of the Milwaukee Brewers' first World Series triumph, it might have ended the last Major League Baseball game for a long time.
While just 148 days remain until the scheduled start of the 2027 season on March 24, owners have proposed a salary cap for the first time since their 1994 plan led to a 7 1/2-month strike and the first cancellation of the World Series in 90 years.
"Obviously, you'd love to see the game be in a good spot and continue to be played," Milwaukee captain Christian Yelich said Wednesday a few hours before his team finished a five-game victory over Tampa Bay. "I think the game's in a great spot right now with a lot of people tuned in, a lot of popularity, a lot of great players out there. It would obviously be a shame if we miss time, but we'll have plenty of time this offseason to talk about it."
Baseball's five-year labor contract, agreed to in March 2022 on the 99th day of a management lockout, expires on Dec. 1. MLB is likely to lock out players again as soon as the deal expires.
That could create another free-agent frenzy ahead of the expiration. On Dec. 1, 2021, clubs committed to $1.4 billion in salaries that included nine-figure contracts for Javier Báez, Byron Buxton, Kevin Gausman, Max Scherzer, Corey Seager and Marcus Semien.

In a housing market where affordability is increasingly out of reach for many buyers, Vic Bulbon is looking at a type of property that's becoming less expensive: condominiums.
With national home prices near record highs and mortgage rates topping 7% in recent weeks, buying a home remains out of reach for many Americans. Condos appear to offer a rare bright spot, with prices falling across the country.
But even with cheaper sales prices, rising homeowners' **** ociation (HOA) fees and one-time special **** sments are driving up ownership costs.
Now, guidelines released this year by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored agencies that back nearly half of all US home purchases, aim to reduce the financial and structural risks of condo buildings. Real estate agents told CNN that the changes could add pressure to the condo market by further driving up HOA fees, increasing the total monthly bill for condo owners, and potentially eroding the savings of a lower purchase price.
As of mid-October, condo sales prices lagged behind single-family home prices in 99 of the 100 largest markets in the United States, according to data from financial services company Intercontinental Exchange provided to CNN. Nationally, single-family home prices rose 1.5% from a year earlier, while condo prices fell 1.1%.

Green Bay Packers TE Tucker Kraft caught five passes for 37 yards against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6. Kraft was targeted eight times in the win.
SOURCE: USA TODAY
Why It Matters: Unquestionably the most important thing that happened for Kraft on Sunday night was that he avoided another knee injury as he headed to the blue medical tent after taking a low hit. He was able to return, however, which is big news for the Packers and Kraft owners. While the talented tight end still hasn't gotten fully back to form, he's one of the three pillars of the passing game with Christian Watson and Matthew Golden, and as those two continue to command attention, it should open things up for Kraft. He's a low-end TE1 right now, but he could push toward top-five status if he can recapture his pre-injury form.

Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb had nine receptions for 70 yards in a Week 6 matchup with the Green Bay Packers. Lamb was targeted a game-high 18 times.
SOURCE: USA TODAY
Why It Matters: Lamb was given no shortage of opportunities to make plays against the Packers with his 18 targets dwarfing second-place George Pickens, who had 11. He did almost nothing in terms of explosiveness, however, averaging 7.8 yards per catch with his longest reception covering just 17 yards. It's a disappointing trend for Lamb, who has averaged fewer than 10 yards per reception in half of his six games thus far in 2026. Despite that, fantasy owners know how high Lamb's ceiling is, so he should remain locked in your lineup as a solid WR1.

James Attwood: I don't really see how. Sure, the Brewers are a smaller market than the Dodgers. They have a much smaller payroll. But, if anything, the Brewers advancing is only going to fuel the MLBPA to get even stickier about trying to control salaries in any way, shape, or form. Also, even though plenty of fans and pundits like to give MLB front offices a hard time about making stupid decisions, those offices are by and large, stacked with incredibly intelligent people. Those people are going to be able to take a step back and recognize that one season's playoff picture is hardly a sample size large enough to be called indicative of the sport moving forward. There were questions after Arizona went to the World Series in 2023 about whether or not MLB had done enough to create obstacles for Wild Card teams in the playoffs, all because Arizona steamrolled the Brewers and Dodgers. This year, pundits are calling for the entire seeding system to be blown up because there was a team with a .500 record that not only made the playoffs, but won their division outright. Single seasons may bring some oddities, but they are usually not indicative of the reality of the game's overall health.
I suspect, both the ownership side of things and the MLBPA have already drawn their battle lines and have already started crafting their arguments. This outcome in the playoffs will do more to feed the online debates between fans and pundits than it will do for or against the CBA negotiations.
C. Wesley Baier: I think it will impact the CBA negotiations, but how much is the real question. I would be shocked if the MLBPA didn't use this as evidence against a salary cal, but I cant say if it wil be all that successful of a tactic.
Spencer: Nope. Anything can happen in a small sample size. Owners are greedy and want to abuse their employees/customers for profit still. Players are greedy and only care about the uppermost tiers of earning power. Fans will quiet down a little, but fan opinion and outrage has never been a driving force for either side.

The OKC Thunder agreed to a five-year, $139 million rookie-scale contract extension with Cason Wallace on Sunday. ESPN's Shams Charania first reported the news.
Wallace averaged career highs of 8.6 points and 2.6 **** ists last season on 43.2% shooting from the field (35.1% from deep). He also recorded a league-leading 150 steals and earned an All-Defensive second team selection.
More: Lu Dort reflects on OKC Thunder legacy as 'new chapter' with Atlanta Hawks begins
OKC had until Monday to sign Wallace to a new deal and avoid him hitting restricted free agency next summer. It's a sign of confidence in the 22-year-old guard, who'll serve as the Thunder's top point-of-attack defender now that Lu Dort is gone.
It's also a sign of commitment from OKC's ownership group after the team made cost-cutting moves this summer. The Thunder traded Dort, Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe in three separate deals for a combined seven second-round picks and didn't get any players in return. That helped it position itself $6.9 million underneath the second apron with one standard roster spot still open.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's plans for a more private Ohio retreat have run into some very public objections. Neighbors of the $5.35 million Lake Erie estate are challenging proposed landscaping and fencing, raising concerns about a shared sewer line, wildlife, and how the changes could affect their longtime homes.
A six-foot fence has already received approval, but parts of the landscaping remain unresolved. The property's representatives, meanwhile, say they have adjusted the plans, paid for sewer repairs and added gates to accommodate residents.
ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGA
According to the Daily Mail, the dispute centers on an estate in Bratenahl, a village outside Cleveland. Property records cited by the outlet show that an LLC linked to Kelce purchased the mansion in March. The 21,000-square-foot property features eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and a two-bedroom guest cottage. Built in 1895, it also has a former ballroom converted into a game room and home theater.
But proposed changes to the grounds have become a sticking point with nearby residents. Katherine Bolton, who has lived next door for 35 years, described news of the new owners as a "tremendous blow" to "the peace and quiet in Bratenahl."

The "American Dream" costs about $5.3 million over a lifetime, up 4.1% from last year's updated total and faster than wages grew.
The costs of owning a house, paying for new cars and retirement expenses make up nearly 70% of the overall total.
Healthcare and car ownership prices were little changed from last year, but up substantially from five years ago.
The cost of the American Dream is rising faster than our paychecks can cover it.
That's according to an Investopedia ***** ysis of eight classic milestones: owning a home, buying new cars, raising two children and sending them to college, retiring, paying for healthcare, having a wedding, owning pets, and taking a yearly vacation. The lifetime tab, $5.3 million, is up 4.1% from a year ago. By comparison, private-sector wages and salaries in the 12 months through June rose 3.1%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Employment Cost Index.

The move aimed to lower costs for farmers weeks before the midterm elections.
President Donald Trump has issued an executive order that makes a specific kind of tax-exempt diesel fuel reserved for farm and construction equipment available to a broad set of road vehicles in an effort to reduce overall diesel costs.
The type of diesel, known as dyed diesel, is exempt from a 24.4-cent per gallon federal tax, making it a lower-priced option than regular diesel. Some states expanded access to dyed diesel in a similar fashion over recent weeks, providing relief from state diesel taxes.
Dyed diesel is nearly identical to regular diesel, besides a small amount of dye used by law enforcement officers and inspectors to ensure only permitted vehicle owners avail themselves of the fuel.
The executive order on Monday came weeks ahead of the midterm elections, targeting costs ****** ociated with a fuel vital to the supply chain for everything from groceries to clothing to electronics.

U.S. homeowners paid about $633 more on average in property taxes in 2024 compared to 2019, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data. Here's what's driving the increase and which states are hit the hardest.
Property taxes are largely determined by a home's ***** sed value and the local tax rate.
The ***** sed value is a dollar amount ***** igned to your home by your local county ***** sor to help determine the property tax. It's not the same as the market value, but it incorporates it.
A higher home market value can mean a higher ***** sed value, which would directly increase its property taxes. And the average market value for a single-family home in the U.S. is $362,210 according to February Zillow estimates — a nearly 55% increase since 2019.
Higher property tax rates may also be behind an increase in real estate taxes. Local governments can raise the rate to cover increases in operational and service costs.

Jordyn Woods has spent much of her life in the spotlight, first as Kylie Jenner's longtime best friend and later as a model, entrepreneur and celebrity in her own right. From her Hollywood connections and family background to her relationship with NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns, Woods has built a life that extends far beyond her former ties to the Kardashian-Jenner family.
But how much do we really know about the life Woods has created for herself? From whether she grew up wealthy and where she lives today to the eye-catching engagement ring she received from Towns and her estimated net worth, here's everything to know about Jordyn Woods' life, career and finances.
Despite her close ties to the Kardashian-Jenner and Smith families, Jordyn Woods did not grow up in a wealthy celebrity household. Her father, John Woods, was a television sound engineer who worked on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", while her mother, Elizabeth Woods, worked as a talent and brand manager. Her parents' careers gave Jordyn an early connection to Hollywood, and her family became particularly close with Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith through her father's work, according to People.
Jordyn has acknowledged that she had certain privileges growing up in California and being surrounded by successful people, but she has also pushed back against the idea that her family was wealthy. In a 2025 interview with Crystal Renee Hayslett, she explained that her father worked extremely hard to provide for their family and said that they "definitely struggled," emphasizing that being around wealthy people did not mean her family had the same financial resources.
Jordyn Woods currently lives in Los Angeles, California, with her husband, NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns. TMZ reports the couple purchased a $14 million home in the Los Angeles area, putting them among the city's many celebrity homeowners. Their move into the luxury property came as Woods continued to expand her career beyond social media, while Towns built his fortune through his NBA career.

Nate Bargatze had barely four hours of sleep when he took the stage at the Ford Accelerate conference at Michigan Central Station in Detroit.
It was about 9 a.m. on Sept. 30 and the comedian was there to co-host the second-year of the event with Ford Motor Co. CEO Jim Farley. Bargatze is the new face in a Ford ad campaign touting the advantages that Ford vehicle owners get by using Ford's dealership service lanes rather than third-party service centers. Ford Accelerate is a gathering of hundreds of business and community leaders who discuss ways to get more people interested in skilled trades jobs, such as auto service technicians.
"I don't even know what time it is," Bargatze told the Detroit Free Press a couple of hours after he welcomed the crowd. His handler remarked that it wasn't yet noon. "It's not noon?! It could be four, five ... I don't know. We got in late last night because I had a show in Mississippi and then ... it was four hours sleep. But I feel great. It's been fun."
The ride for Bargatze, 47, has indeed been fun — and a lot of hard work.
He rose from humble roots in Old Hickory, Tennessee, a factory town about 15 miles northeast of Nashville known for its DuPont plant. He is the son of a professional magician and Bargatze worked as an appliance mover, a pizza delivery driver, a parking valet at Nashville International Airport and a water-meter reader before a buddy pushed him to try his dream of stand-up comedy.

Angelina Jolie put her storied Los Feliz estate on the market in May, marking the latest chapter in a house that has already had more than a few famous owners. Now it has a new one: Madonna, who has reportedly bought the former Cecil B. DeMille estate for $24.75 million.
Jolie bought the property for $24.5 million in 2017 and listed it this spring for $29.85 million. It ultimately sold for just $250,000 more than she paid nearly a decade ago. Madonna apparently didn't need to spend much time getting acquainted with the place. According to the New York Post, her team arranged a private tour after she expressed interest in the property, even though she wasn't in Los Angeles at the time.

US bond yields have surged upward over the past month, as yields on both the 10-year Treasury (^TNX) and 30-year Treasury (^TYX) have reached levels not seen since 2002, surpassing 2007 high-water marks in the lead-up to the financial crisis.
Investors have attributed the run-up in yields to a variety of concerns, from the artificial intelligence build-out and the competition for capital to changing foreign ownership of gold versus fixed income.

One overlooked source of upward pressure, argued Macquarie's Thierry Wizman, is not just the impact of the Iran war on the energy market but uncertainty about when the war will end or what the conflict will look like going forward.
"The perception that global conflict is endemic may also be causing long-term inflation expectation[s] to stay elevated," Wizman wrote to clients.

Jamie Oliver has stepped in to save the airfield and flying school where he trained to be a pilot.
The owners at Andrewsfield Aviation, near Braintree in Essex, said they were preparing to close operations because there was no successor lined up after they retired.
But the TV chef, who achieved his pilot licence in July, helped arrange new ownership to ensure the hangar doors remained open.
"Andrewsfield is a special place with so much potential," said Oliver, who is from Essex.
"It has an extraordinary history and is full of wonderful people with an exemplary training environment that has changed my life for the better."

Striking a blow to Mayor Mamdani’s rollout of his signature pied-à-terre tax, a New York City judge on Tuesday ruled in favor of owners of pricey second homes and ordered the city to restart the process.
Staten Island Supreme Court Justice Wayne Ozzi found that notices the city mailed to homeowners informing them that they may be subject to the surcharge were unlawful and had to be canceled and re-sent. He also ruled that a supplemental property tax roll posted online must be taken down.
“No crime is involved here, but homeowners are being substantially harmed and penalized needlessly,” Ozzi wrote in his 22-page decision, referring to the city’s controversial rollout of the tax on high-value second homes.
