The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2026 NFL season as one of the league's most interesting teams. They failed to even make the playoffs last season, but after a great offseason, many have the belief that the team can end their 30-year drought to win the Super Bowl this season.
Last season, the Cowboys' offence was exciting and forced many to believe it was among the best in the league.
This was due to Dak Prescott, George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb leading the way on the offense. However, their defence was equally bad, conceding 30.1 points per game.
Owner Jerry Jones promised to revamp the defence, and as part of that, the likes of Quinnen Williams, Rashan Gary, and Von Miller were brought to the team. They also drafted Ohio State player Caleb Downs, and with these additions, many believed the Cowboys could be contenders.
However, Skip Bayless is not one of them, and he has his reason as to why.

In a break from the norm, the Cowboys went out on a limb and played the speculation market. Channeling his inner oilman, owner Jerry Jones has put his money where his mouth is and bet big on breakouts.
In previous years, it was the Cowboys waiting until after a breakout was achieved before extensions were offered. Terence Steele was signed to a five-year, $82,500,000 deal after his breakout season in 2022. Jaylon Smith was regrettably signed to a five-year, $63,750,000 extension after his breakout season in 2018. And even Dak Prescott, Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland got signed after already establishing themselves high among the NFL hierarchy.

It is Week 1, and the last thing I want to do is incite panic among a group of fantasy football managers who have been waiting all offseason for this moment. We drafted these teams, talked ourselves into these players and have been waiting for real football to finally get here. The last thing you want to hear before setting your first lineup is somebody telling you to worry about one of the players you drafted.

But think about it this way. There are some legitimate concerns heading into Week 1, and I would much rather know about those concerns now and set my expectations accordingly than find out when the games start. So these are panics, but they are loose panics. We are not burying anybody before the season starts. This is simply about identifying where there may be a little more risk than we anticipated when we drafted these players.
Let's start with Dak Prescott because this one caught my attention immediately. Tyler Smith is going to have surgery on his thumb and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Smith is one of the best guards in football, and Dallas is going to open the season against the Giants, Commanders, Ravens and Texans without arguably the best player on its offensive line.
Then, you look at the rest of that offensive line and there are reasons to be concerned. Terence Steele allowed 52 pressures last season, which is not good, and now T.J. The Cowboys have two defensive captains this season, and both were acquired by trading Micah Parsons.
Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams are the Cowboys' defensive captains. A year ago, the Cowboys traded Parsons to the Packers for Clark and two first-round picks, and later they traded one of those picks to the Jets for Williams.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer singled out Williams as a leader who has meant a lot to the team.
"From the minute he got here, he's been about one thing, and it's winning," Schottenheimer said of Williams. "He's never won in the NFL and the leadership is real, the talent is incredible, but every decision that guy makes is based on what's best for us winning. I love that about him, and it's infectious. It rubs off. I love hearing him talk to the young linemen, the young defenders."

There's few things more excruciating for a fantasy football manager than watching one of your players waste away on a bad offense. Whether it's poor play-calling, offensive line play or an incompetent quarterback, even the best receivers and running backs can struggle to break through because of their circumstances.
We've already identified the teams to avoid in fantasy for that reason, and now it's the flip side of that coin. Here are five teams worth targeting in 2026 fantasy football drafts, as they could produce enough offensive fireworks to have several players worth rostering.
The Chargers brought in OC Mike McDaniel to revitalize their offense after he did wonders with Tua Tagovailoa in Miami. Tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt are now healthy as well, so it's full speed ahead for Justin Herbert, running back Omarion Hampton and receivers Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston. I'm targeting Johnston late in all my drafts, as he's the Chargers' undisputed deep threat with Herbert one of the NFL's best deep passers. Johnston is a steal at his current ADP.
Dallas has the NFL's most fearsome wide receiver duo in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, plus a surgically accurate quarterback in Dak Prescott. Milton was waived on Aug. 31 so the Cowboys could include running back Emari Demercado to the active roster.
Milton served as the backup behind Dak Prescott last season.
Milton completed 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions during the 2026 preseason.

According to reports, Milton may have requested the release to test the waters of teams needing a QB2.

On Monday, head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Milton has "performed beautifully in both games" and that Howell has "made a lot of plays too" while suggesting things remain too close to call.

Unlike running back and wide receiver ‐ where the pressure to start multiple players creates an entirely different market ‐ quarterbacks and tight ends are "onesie" positions, as they are sometimes known.
Sure, there are only a few elite tight ends and quarterbacks that everyone is chasing, like Brock Bowers and Josh Allen, but there is not the same pressure that builds from scarcity during the auction. Generally, managers feel as though if they lose out on Drake Maye or Jalen Hurts, they can still feel pretty good about pivoting to Dak Prescott or Trevor Lawrence.
The thinking at tight end is similar. To an even greater extent, it lends itself to streaming from the waiver wire during the year. So naturally, managers would rather spend more money to secure that last WR2 than save that money to upgrade from Lawrence to Jayden Daniels or Harold Fannin to Tyler Warren. This depresses prices and provides buying opportunities.
Let us look at the three typical strategies for landing your quarterback and tight end in auctions, and do it through the lens of real pricing from some recent auctions. We have five data points from five auctions spanning June, July, and early August.

Fantasy football managers spent years burning their first two picks on passers because the position dried up by Round 3. That is not the 2026 board. Ten quarterbacks carry legitimate weekly QB1 outcomes, and they are separated by very little from Tier 1 to Tier 2. Fantasy football drafters who recognize that the superflex tiers are flat early, meaning the value differences are minimal, will build deeper rosters than the ones still reaching.

Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow occupy my superflex top tier. After those three, Justin Herbert, Jayden Daniels, Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott and Drake Maye all project close enough that paying a premium for one over another wastes draft capital. Secure one QB to anchor the position within the first two rounds. Then spend Rounds 2 and 3 on running backs and receivers while the rest of the room chases passers.
Target your second quarterback in Round 4. If four or more signal-callers come off the board inside Round 2, or around 11 or more total up to that point, move your second QB pick up to Round 3. You may be passing on RB/WR value, but I prefer strength at QB above all else in this format.

A Fresno father's painting hobby led to an unforgettable encounter when Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott not only accepted one of his custom hats, but later wore it and sought out the artist behind it.
Mario Corona, a stay-at-home dad, licensed EMT and aspiring firefighter, began painting hats about a year ago. He said he never expected one of his designs would end up in the hands of an NFL quarterback.
"A day that I definitely won't forget," Corona said.
Recently, Corona completed a Dallas Cowboys collection that included a tribute to Prescott's brother, Jace. Prescott lost his brother to suicide in 2020 and has spoken publicly about raising awareness since then.
Corona created what he calls an "Angel Hat," featuring a portrait of Jace on the side.

It's almost here. The first Dallas Cowboys preseason game of the 2026 NFL season will take place on Saturday night when the team battles the Seattle Seahawks. Even though it's not real football, it is a very close approximation.
Given that it is not real football, many clubs hold out their stars from playing the game. No Dak Prescott, no CeeDee Lamb, you get the picture. But what about a player who we think is a star, but just hasn't had a chance to show it yet. How much should he play?
