Son Heung-min will make his MLS postseason debut after helping the Los Angeles Football Club clinch a playoff bid.
Los Angeles FC clinched a spot in the MLS playoffs after a 2-2 draw with the LA Galaxy on Sunday, Oct. 25, reaching the postseason for the eighth time in the franchise's nine-year history.
"We still got two more games to play in the regular season," Heung-min said of LAFC's fight for playoff positioning. "We want to finish as high as possible so we can have a home game as many times as possible."
LAFC have 47 points and trail the San Jose Earthquakes and the Houston Dynamo by one point in the standings, and will face Minnesota United on Nov. 1 and the Seattle Sounders on Nov. 7.
Heung-min believes the black and gold missed an opportunity to tie San Jose in the standings after an offside call against teammate Denis Bouanga in the 29th minute of the first half resulted in his apparent goal being called back.

SAKS — Childersburg capped a remarkable turnaround Thursday night, defeating Saks 35-7 at Jack Stewart Field to close the season with a winning record.
After going 0-10 in head coach Matt Zedaker's first season in charge of the program, the Tigers improved to 6-4 this year, narrowly missing the playoffs.
"A great way to go out right here with six wins from zero wins last year," Zedaker said. "We're on an uphill ascend."
The bounce-back season would not have been possible without contributions from seniors like JaMarion Davis. In his final game in a Childersburg uniform, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound quarterback accounted for four of the Tigers' five touchdowns.
Davis scored on runs of 15 and 13 yards and threw touchdown passes of 37 yards to J'Kolby Thomas and 56 yards to Tristan Powell.

WEST GREENWICH – Zakhi Hightower knows he owes Josian Franco a touchdown.
Franco did the dirty work – the defensive pressure, a swatted pass – so Hightower just had to walk in for the game-breaking score. Juanita Sanchez/Providence Country Day cruised the rest of the night.
Hightower's interception return for a touchdown highlighted a breakout second quarter for the Cavaliers. Their season will continue with a clean slate, and a playoff date next week awaits after a 34-22 victory over Exeter-West Greenwich on Thursday night, Oct. 29.
Juanita Sanchez (3-4) currently has the fifth seed in Division IV after the victory on Oct. 29. The fourth spot, in this ever-changing RPI system, is within reach pending the weekend's results. More defensive plays like Hightower's 25-yard pick-six would make this co-op a dangerous team in the knockout stages.

CLEVELAND — Jose Ramirez rescued the Guardians in the American League Division Series with a tremendous three-game run to lift Cleveland to the ALCS, but with their playoff journey coming to an end all the focus turns to an injury that hamstrung him for the second half of the season.
Ramirez underwent hamate bone surgery in mid-June and returned to the lineup July 22, but he was struggling to be as productive while playing through the left wrist/hand issue. It can often be difficult for hitters to fully return to form in the aftermath of a hamate bone surgery.
His season numbers had already been a bit down from his career averages, but after the procedure he hit just .229 with a .598 OPS over the final 53 games, a stretch that included only two home runs, as his power seemed to be sapped.
It was painfully clear Ramirez was playing while hurt and the procedure was having a negative impact. It was also unlikely he'd do further damage, and the Guardians appreciated anything the star third baseman might be able to give them. A one-handed Ramirez is still a better sight in the everyday lineup than calling someone off the bench, especially as he insisted to play every day.
"I mean, obviously, it took a toll on him," said Guardians manager Stephen Vogt, who also reiterated his commitment to Cleveland while some rumors about the Seattle Mariners had stated to run rampant. "He was out there giving us everything he had. He wasn't playing at 100 percent, but that never changed his demeanor or the way he went about his business. And I think that just speaks to who he is as a person and a baseball player.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Defending champion and world No. 4-ranked Miyu Yamashita shot a 6-under 66 Friday to take a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the LPGA Tour's Maybank Classic.
The 2025 Women's British Open winner had a two-round total of 13-under 131 on the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club course. She won last year's Malaysian tournament after a three-way playoff.
Julia Lopez Ramirez birdied three of her final four holes for a 66 and was tied for second with Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, who led by a stroke after the first round.
"Try to keep your mind cool and your body hydrated in these conditions," Lopez Ramirez said of her preparations for the weekend in the usual high humidity in Kuala Lumpur.
A Lim Kim had the round of the day, a 64, and was in fourth place, three strokes behind Yamashita.

The Los Angeles Kings found a way to win a game they shouldn't have needed to find a way to win on Thursday night. They might have a change in coaching strategy to thank for that.
After blowing a 5-1 third-period lead, the Kings defeated the Ottawa Senators 6-5 in overtime behind Quinton Byfield's game-winner. But almost as interesting as the wild swings of the game was something Drew Doughty revealed after it ended.
"It's the first year in my whole career that we've ever actually worked on three-on-three," the Kings' captain said. "A lot of credit to the coaches in that area. We worked on it in camp. We worked on it before the season started, and they had a bit of a game plan, which we didn't really have before either. So a lot of credit to them for making us work on it."
If the Kings ever had an offseason where they needed to improve that aspect of their game, it was this past one. They lost an NHL-record 20 overtime and shootout games in 2025-26, a huge part of the reason they finished with the Western Conference's second wild-card spot and were swept out of the playoffs in the first round. First-year head coach Peter Laviolette came in and wanted to make sure the Kings didn't post those numbers again.
"There's definitely a method to the madness, and there's got to be a buy-in to that, and I think the players bought in," Laviolette said. "There's a lot of review that went through it, and there's things that we talk about prior to games and then after games — the overtime games — and reviewing that. And I think the players have done a really good job of executing them."

Rockets predicted to trade for $112M defensive menace, reliable shooter to pair with Kevin Durant originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Houston Rockets disappointed themselves and their fans last season after getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers. This season, the Rockets have come in with a goal in mind: to be the best team possible.
Houston has started the season 5-0, exceeding expectations. In fact, the Rockets have done this while Kevin Durant is still trying to get going.
"The Houston Rockets are 5-0, and the vibes are about as high as they've ever been during Kevin Durant's time with the franchise. The Rockets have outscored their opponents by 71 points through the first five games of the season, and during their dominant start, Durant has been Houston's No. 1 hype man on the bench, Fred VanVleet had his best game in two years," The Athletic's William Guillory wrote.
The biggest thing the Rockets needed heading into the offseason was shooting.

LSU's Lane Kiffin staunchly defends 24-team CFP while taking dig at other conferences appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Lane Kiffin can play coy sometimes, as many trolls choose to do, but the LSU head coach is making it perfectly clear where he stands on the proposed 24-team College Football Playoff.
Kiffin is not just in favor of this expected format change. He believes it is essential, particularly for an SEC that is brimming with parity and deeply passionate fan bases.
"I think it had to happen," Kiffin said, per On3's Jonathan Wagner. "You could say 12 is better, but not when you take into account the way college football is set up now. The conferences are so different, the four conferences. They are. They're different stadiums, they're different environments, they're different middle to bottom of them. So you're not playing equal schedules, they're not even close."

TOMARATA, New Zealand (AP) — Defending champion Fifa Laopakdee of Thailand salvaged a 1-over 71 in strong wind Friday in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship to take a two-stroke lead into the weekend at Te Arai Links.
A day after opening with an 8-under 63, Laopakdee began his morning round on the seaside layout bogey-bogey-birdie-bogey-bogey in 35 mph wind. The Arizona State senior also bogeyed the 10th, then birdied Nos. 12, 13 and 17.
"I had a 5‑footer two holes in a row and the ball just snapped 90 degrees," Laopakdee said. "I aimed a foot left from 5 feet and it went like 3 feet right. It's pretty tricky. Overall, it was a grind out there and I would take 7 under for the first two rounds."
The winner will receive spots in the Masters and British Open. Last year in Dubai, Laopakdee won the third hole of a playoff to become the first Thai champion in event history.
Three players from New Zealand followed on the leaderboard. Cooper Moore (70) was second at 5 under, Ryan Xie (71) was 4 under, and Zack Swanwic (67) 3 under. Kaito Sato of ****** an was 2 under after a 72.

FORT WALTON BEACH — There was no grandiose celebration of a four-peat, nor was there even acknowledgement of it by Frank Beasley in the postgame huddle.
Instead, after Choctaw (6-2, 4-0) won its sixth straight game and locked up District 1-4A again with a 49-7 win over Booker T. Washington (6-2, 3-1), the Big Green put their head down because they know what's on the horizon.
Region 1-4A is a gauntlet with unbeaten Columbia ranked No. 1, undefeated St. Augustine No. 2, unbeaten Mosley at No. 3 and Ed White 7-2 narrowly ahead of the Big Green at No. 4. That'll likely change between now and the next weekend before the region brackets are revealed, but for now the Big Green can only control what they can control.
Vote now: FPL Athlete of the Week for Oct. 19-24
"We're not affected by who we have to play in the playoffs, and we'll get the job done," senior Carter Marracco said.

The NFL, the most parity-driven major sports league, feels even more wide open this year. Even the perceived powerhouses entering the season and teams with the best records have flaws that are already being picked at by opponents.
Betting markets and bettors are keeping plenty of teams alive. As of Thursday evening, FanDuel had 11 NFC teams with +164 or shorter odds to make the playoffs, and seven teams with +1100 odds or shorter to win the Super Bowl. Thirteen teams were at +2500 or shorter to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in February.
This open competition leads to opportunity. And opportunity leads to action. Even when the Nov. 10 trade deadline was still a ways away, teams started to address their weaknesses. The Dallas Cowboys added Joey Porter Jr., the Baltimore Ravens nabbed Cam Jurgens. Now with the deadline growing closer, NFL teams have decided to strike. First, Quenton Nelson was shipped off to the Seattle Seahawks from the sinking ship known as the Indianapolis Colts. Soon after, DeForest Buckner returned to the San Francisco 49ers to bolster their defensive front.
Then, on Thursday, the Chicago Bears fired a shot across the bow to the rest of the NFC and NFL, trading two future first-round draft picks and a fourth-rounder to the Tennessee ****** ans for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round selection.
Now that's some real action for a trade deadline!

SATELLITE BEACH — Satellite kicked off the SSAA Atlantic state playoffs hosting Lemon Bay in the first round on Oct. 29.
The four-seeded Scorpions played their brand of football with efficient offensive play and stingy defense in a 31-7 win over the fifth-seeded Manta Rays.
"I'm proud of the effort. I thought we played hard," Satellite head coach Dan Burke said. "I thought we did what we practiced to do. Looking forward to next week."
Satellite nearly pitched another shutout as Lemon Bay scored its lone touchdown with 1:45 remaining in regulation. The Manta Rays turned the ball over on downs four times, turned the ball over twice and punted once.
It was a new challenge for the Scorpions defense as the Manta Rays operated a triple-option offense. Lemon Bay ended the game averaging 3.2 yards per carry as it totaled 144 yards on 45 attempts.

Brian Kelly came into Baton Rouge with one objective in mind: win a national championship. He never managed to achieve the objective, not even reaching the College Football Playoff once during his four seasons with the LSU Tigers.
Kelly had told the press that he left Notre Dame for LSU because he believed he couldn't win a national ***** le with the Fighting Irish. On Thursday, he admitted that he was never able to play up to the standard set for him in Baton Rouge.
Speaking with Front Office Sports, the former LSU coach said:
"I didn't live up to the standards that are set there at LSU. They brought me in to win a national championship, and there was a lot of work that needed to be done to get there, more so than many thought, but at the end of the day I didn't get to that level of expectation that they had," Kelly said.
He also said that he expects Lane Kiffin to be held to the same standard he was under when he was LSU's coach. So far, 2026 has looked similar to the years under Kelly, with highlights and low points for the No. 15 Tigers (6-2) as their CFP hopes have only a thin margin for error.

The Carolina Panthers have fallen into a tie atop the NFC South with their Thursday night loss to the Green Bay Packers. At 3-4, they still sit in first in the division after tiebreakers with the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta plays the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday and would take the division lead with a win.
The Wild Card race isn't too far off. The Packers are now in the final playoff spot at 5-3, so Carolina is the equivalent of two games back with the head-to-head tiebreaker.
1. Carolina Panthers (3-4, win over ATL)
2. Atlanta Falcons (3-4, loss to CAR)
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-5, 1-0 NFCS)

Count Jake LaCava among the New Mexico United players who figures to have less of a strenuous weekend.
And it has little to do with what could happen on the pitch in the club's Western Conference quarterfinal playoff match against rival Phoenix Rising FC at 4 p.m. Sunday. It's more so about what New Mexico will — or won't, rather — be doing beforehand to get there.
No traveling to the airport. No getting on a plane. Just a short drive to Isotopes Park.
"I'm personally afraid of flying," the defender said Thursday. "... I sit there and grip on for dear life, and pray for a landing. … So it takes a lot of stress off me."
Such is the benefit of being the No. 1 seed in the West and the home-field advantage that comes with it, something United secured with last Saturday's 1-0 win at El Paso Locomotive FC in the regular-season finale on midfielder Valentin Noël's fourth-minute stoppage-time goal.

Combined, the Yuba City and River Valley High girls volleyball teams had not won a Sac-Joaquin playoff match in nearly 20 years – a negative trend that changed Tuesday all across town.
– YC (20-9) held serve at home to win its first playoff match since 2015 with a four-set win over Buhach Colony to advance into the SJS Division III quarterfinals where it will face a familiar foe in Roseville (19-17) of the Foothill Valley League, at 6 p.m. today (Thursday) in Placer County. It is a four-five matchup, with Roseville the No. 4 seed in the bracket. Roseville has won eight straight over YC dating back the last four seasons. The Honkers' last win was 2022 when the current senior corps was still in eighth grade, according to records.
– RV (15-15) avenged last year's five-set playoff loss to Oakdale with a sweep at home Tuesday to advance into a quarterfinal date with No. 1 Ripon (25-4) at 6 p.m. in San Joaquin County. RV last faced Ripon in 2018 – the same year of its last postseason victory in the SJS playoffs when current head coach Samee Taylor was a senior setter/opposite attacker on the squad that finished 25-5 and won the Capital Valley Conference in the regular season. In the playoffs, Taylor and RV got to the 2018 quarterfinals where it was derailed by Del Oro in four sets.
Taylor was an everyday athlete, appearing in 55 sets for the Falcons that year. She collected 60 kills, 13 blocks and had 45 ******* ists.
– The top-seed in D-V won its 32nd match with a straight-set victory over Westlake Charter Tuesday in Sutter. The Huskies (32-5) host Linden, once the home of Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, at 6 p.m. today in the quarterfinals. Sutter has won 15 straight and only dropped one set since the High Sierra Tournament in Reno the first weekend in September.

DOVER — Senior Jules Stowell said the St. Thomas Aquinas volleyball team has talked all season about its mentality and ability to respond after digging themselves a hole.
They had to put that mentality to use Thursday night.
Fourth-seeded St. Thomas fell behind 7-2 in the opening set and later found itself tied at 20 before closing strong. The Saints carried that momentum through the next two sets to earn a 3-0 sweep of No. 13 Prospect Mountain in a Division III preliminary-round match.
St. Thomas (14-3) will host No. 5 Trinity (14-3) in a Division III quarterfinal Saturday at 6 p.m. Trinity advanced with a 3-0 win over No. 12 Sunapee.
"We came out struggling a little bit, but we definitely fought back," St. Thomas freshman Hadley DeStefano said. "I mean, in the playoffs, teams come to fight and teams come to win. So, no matter who the team is, we know they're going to come fight as hard as they can and I think just as a team, it's really symbolic that we fought back."

We have hit the last week of the Tennessee high school football regular season. And like recent years, the TSSAA has split high school games to Thursday and Friday. So about half the state will play their Week 11 games on Thursday. The rest will play on Friday.
It's a chance to give teams better officials each day. But it also gives us a chance to see the TSSAA football playoff picture become clearer before the brackets are released Friday, Oct. 30.
Note: Games with asterisks are region games. Most games this week will be region games. And almost all games play at least a small part in determining playoff order.
Here are the TSSAA football scores for Week 11.

I reached out to the folks at Black Shoe Diaries to talk about this weekend's game between their Nittany Lions and our Purdue Boilermakers. They were kind enough to respond with some informative answers to my questions. Make sure to go check them out.
Penn State has not won a Big Ten game yet this year. The schedule to start the year has turned out to be a lot tougher than most people probably thought going in. Given the turnover at the top, what was expected of Penn State by fans coming into this season?
I predicted a 9-3 season. Some others on our site were at least mentioning the word playoff in the offseason. Personally, I thought Penn State would have enough experience with Matt Campbell's system considering that there would be so much continuity with so many players making the move from Iowa State. A lot of that optimism was tied to the schedule. Unlike 2025 where Penn State jumped right into the deep end with a showdown against Oregon in conference play, this year seemed like it would give some runway for the Lions to work things out before a Whiteout matchup against USC. That seemed to be the plan until halftime of the Wisconsin game. From that 17-0 lead against the Badgers, the Lions have struggled mightily.
Three of the four Big Ten losses have come by 8 or fewer points. Is this a situation where Penn State may be 0-4 but they could very easily be 3-1? I guess the crux of my question is, is Penn State better than their record reflects?
I think it should be at least 1-3. The Wisconsin loss was egregious. Penn State led from the start. They could never quite put away the Badgers, had to settle for field goals, committed a brutal turnover, and then allowed a couple of long conversions in the loss. This team isn't as talented as last year's Penn State team, but there are some similarities. They've had second half leads in three of the four losses, just as last year's Penn State team lost fourth quarter/overtime leads to Oregon, Indiana, Iowa, and Northwestern.

Ohio State will travel to Southern California to take on USC for the first time since the Trojans joined the Big Ten on Saturday. It's a pivotal game for both teams, with USC needing a win to stay within arm's reach of the conference ****** le and stay in the running for a College Football Playoff spot. The Buckeyes have those goals also in mind but more in the driver's seat, a place they'd rather not relinquish.
USC head coach Lincoln Riley knows the challenge ahead of him and his team with the No. 2-ranked squad coming to the Coliseum, and he met with his local media on Thursday to preview what he saw from the Scarlet and Gray. We like to watch and listen to the opposing head coaches before and after each matchup with the Buckeyes, and Riley had plenty of compliments for OSU.
Riley discussed the great player receiver Jeremiah Smith is, the skill of the personnel, defensive coordinator Matt Patricia's fingerprints on the defense, and more. You can catch the entire press conference below thanks to the USCAthletics YouTube Channel.
It'll be a night game Saturday when the Buckeyes and Trojans kick things off at 7:30 p.m. ET, and we will be there before, during, and after.

After a big road win against Indiana and a bye week to rest, get healthy, and figure out a game plan to install a new quarterback following Julian Sayin's injury, the Ohio State football team heads to L.A. to take on the USC Trojans on Saturday.
Buckeye fans will love that this is a night game in the Coliseum, at least for folks in Ohio, and they might even love that Ohio State is a modest road favorite. USC is coming off a disappointing loss at Wisconsin and now has two losses on the season, so winning against the No. 2-ranked team in the country is almost a must. The Buckeyes also need to win to stay on track for the Big Ten **** le and a potential spot in the College Football Playoff.
The stage is set, and each Thursday, we get a look at what the Ohio State football creative team releases on social media as that week's game trailer, and we have it for you again. This one is set against the story of The Odyssey, which, of course, has Trojans, Troy, and all of that, with the Buckeyes playing the part as the conquerors.
Have a look at the trailer for Game 8, **** led "Warriors."
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be telecast on NBC. We'll be there before, during, and after the game, so be sure to come back for more coverage.

It has been a while since Penn State celebrated a win on the football field. If you have lost track, Penn State's last win was over a month ago, with a Week 3 rout of Buffalo. The 2026 season, the first under head coach Matt Campbell, has certainly not gone according to plan in Happy Valley, and any threat of making a push for the College Football Playoff has long been put to rest. But the Nittany Lions are coming off a bye week with five games remaining in the season. There is still time to finish this transitionary season with some momentum for the future. First up after the bye week is a home game against Purdue, a team that has taken some steps forward this season under head coach Barry Odom.
Here are our final score and player of the game predictions for Penn State's Week 9 game against Purdue, along with some brief thoughts on the matchup.
Maybe it is hopeless optimism, but I think Penn State's offense looks a bit more consistent an formiudable this week. The bye week may have come at a good time for Penn State, as Rocco Bcht could potentially be getting his top playmaker back on the field with the reported return of wide receiver Koby Howard trending toward reality. Penn State will need the offense to be in rhythm, because Purdue is loaded with offensive firepower through the air and on the ground. The Nittany Lions will have a big test in slowing down Purdue's Fame Ijeboi, who has had his ups and downs this season. Will it be pretty? Not likely. Will it go down to the wire? Perhaps. Will Penn State's losing streak come to an end? Sure. Why not?
Final score prediction: Penn State 30, Purdue 27
Player of the game pick: Koby Howard, Penn State wide receiver

It's the final week of the regular season, as Alabama high school football has reached Week 10.
The 2026 AHSAA football playoffs, for the most part, are set with a lingering regional game left to be played here and there due to rescheduling issues in the wake of Hurricane Isaias.
Teams that play in Week 10 are mainly using the games as tune-up opportunities against competitive teams before postseason play begins. Others will enjoy playing their last game of the 2026 season.
Below are live scoring updates of Week 10 AHSAA football scores across the state.
