Minnesota Vikings QB Carson Wentz went 12-for-19 for 133 yards, three touchdowns and no INTs in relief of QB Kyler Murray (concussion) during the Vikings' 39-22 comeback win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, according to ESPN.com.
Why it Matters: Murray left in the first quarter with a concussion and may not make it back in time to face the Chicago Bears Sunday. Wentz took a beating, and he was helped out by several terrible penalties on Green Bay's defense. He still put the ball in the end zone, but it doesn't look sustainable. He's only a QB2 in superflex and two-QB leagues.

The NFL season is less than a week away from kicking off, beginning a new quest for Super Bowl LXI. There will also be a number of players under the microscope as fantasy football managers look to win their leagues.
One of those players some league managers are banking on to bounce back in a major way is Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. After a historic run in 2024, Barkley took a step back in 2025. In the grand scheme of things, the Eagles offense did as well.

Now, with Barkley's average draft position dropping in this year's fantasy outlook, ESPN's Field Yates believes he could be a late first-round steal. The big reason is that Barkley is poised to have a better season than he did in 2025, though perhaps not as dominant as his 2024 campaign.

Dianna Russini stayed quiet for months while an internal review dug through nearly three years of her work. That silence ended Thursday, the same day the results came out.
The Athletic released its inquiry into former NFL insider Dianna Russini's undisclosed relationship with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel on Sept. 3. The review concluded Russini was "noncompliant" with the publication's standards. Mike Semel, The Athletic's editorial director for standards and editorial quality, spent nearly five months examining more than 900 stories and 77 videos tied to Russini.

A week has passed since our last look at the NFC, and while the top order hasn't shifted much, several injury situations and one big contract now look different as the NFL's Week 1 kickoff is on the horizon.
Vita Vea ended his hold-in with a new deal in Tampa Bay. Coby Bryant's timeline got worse in Chicago. Malik Nabers took live reps for the first time since tearing his ACL.
Here is where all 16 NFC teams stand heading into the final week of the preseason.

Running back Jeremiyah Love sat out the entire week of practice as he continues to rehab the high ankle sprain he suffered against the Raiders. He is still on track for Week 1, but the team is being cautious.

In my younger days, I'd always try to 100% a game. For those uninitiated into the time-consuming habits of geek culture, it's when you fully complete a game. Not just the main storyline—all of it. You're earning your PhD as you gain full mastery of the lore, mechanics and tactics.

But I'd stop short when it came to beating the game on its hardest difficulty setting. That was a bridge too far. I could know every level or sequence blindfolded. But add one enemy or alter the location of a supply drop, and my comprehension would crumble.
I felt the same way about my first few Superflex leagues. Single-QB formats were easy to navigate after constant practice. However, the single addition of a roster spot changed everything in my mind. Anyway, after years of experience, here's how I attack building a roster that allows us to start a couple of passers each week.
If you've never drafted in an SF league, try it. Like my video game ******* ogy, on the surface, there's nothing drastically different. All we've done is plus-up our starter slots by one. Which sounds simple in theory until you compare it to our normal setup.

After how quarterback Cam Ward performed as a rookie for the Tennessee **** ans last season, it is difficult to imagine how he could be a viable option in fantasy football this season. However, ESPN fantasy **** yst Eric Moody believes otherwise. Here is what he said:
"Ward is someone I'm targeting as my QB3 in superflex formats. He struggled early as a rookie but improved after Tennessee's Week 10 bye, throwing 10 touchdowns to just one interception. Ward averaged 15.5 fantasy points over his final four full starts and ranked eighth in pass attempts despite taking a league-high 55 sacks. Tennessee upgraded his situation by hiring Brian Daboll as the OC, adding help along the O-line, signing Wan'Dale Robinson and drafting Carnell Tate fourth overall. The pieces are in place for a Year 2 breakout."
As Moody pointed out, Ward has much more to work with at the wide receiver position. Last season, his top receiver was Elic Ayomanor. Now, he has Calvin Ridley, Robinson and Tate who are all ahead of Ayomanor on their first unofficial depth chart. Nonetheless, a breakout year seems like a stretch.
The improvements on the offensive line should help minimize sacks, but Ward had a problem in college trying to make something happen and getting sacked as a result. That problem resurfaced in the NFL, which is part of why it took until mid-December for Ward to go one game without getting sacked.
He improved as the season progressed, so his numbers should be better this season. However, Ward is not someone to consider in standard fantasy leagues and should not be drafted too high in superflex leagues, and would only be a QB3 in those leagues.

Fantasy Football QB Rankings 2026: Best PPR draft quarterbacks, top sleepers and breakouts originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The value placed on the quarterback position in fantasy football varies.
In sharper and more competitive leagues, you might see the position fall late in drafts. However, in your average home league, it's extremely common for someone to reach on a Josh Allen- or Lamar Jackson-type player.
The fluctuating value of fantasy football quarterbacks persists in 2026.
Superflex and two-quarterback league formats have increased the value of a position that was once overlooked in fantasy sports because of the many reliable quarterbacks. Even a quarterback ranked 20th often delivers a solid stat line most weeks.

The quarterback panic that once defined fantasy football superflex drafts no longer serves you. And hey, if you want to skip straight to my fantasy football superflex rankings, you can find them at the bottom of the article. Now back to our regularly scheduled NFL article.
Fantasy football managers spent years burning their first two picks on passers because the position dried up by Round 3. That is not the 2026 board. Ten quarterbacks carry legitimate weekly QB1 outcomes, and they are separated by very little from Tier 1 to Tier 2. Fantasy football drafters who recognize that the superflex tiers are flat early, meaning the value differences are minimal, will build deeper rosters than the ones still reaching.
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9) is one of the top quarterbacks to have rostered in a fantasy football superflex league.
Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow occupy my superflex top tier. After those three, Justin Herbert, Jayden Daniels, Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott and Drake Maye all project close enough that paying a premium for one over another wastes draft capital. Secure one QB to anchor the position within the first two rounds. Then spend Rounds 2 and 3 on running backs and receivers while the rest of the room chases passers.
Target your second quarterback in Round 4. If four or more signal-callers come off the board inside Round 2, or around 11 or more total up to that point, move your second QB pick up to Round 3. You may be passing on RB/WR value, but I prefer strength at QB above all else in this format.

In one-quarterback leagues, and even in Superflex formats, the quarterback pool is quite plentiful compared to their NFL counterparts. From a sheer numbers perspective, there are 68 teams comprising the Power Four player pool (with Notre Dame), with just 12 signal-callers starting on any given week (up to 24 in Superflex).
Your eight bench spots thin out quickly, which compels managers to churn through players on bye weeks and in time shares. In the standard 1QB format, rostering two quarterbacks seems to be the sweet spot from a roster construction standpoint in 1QB leagues, so as to not leave yourself short on RB /WR depth. The ability to stream waiver wire pickups who are facing poor defenses make the high-end quarterbacks valuable and the middle-to-lower tier easily replaceable
You will want to roster four QBs in Superflex leagues if possible, so expanding rosters to 20 players with a 10-man bench is advised. Utilizing a two-quarterback rotation in a Superflex format is not going to suffice with bye weeks, schedule quirks and injuries looming. Ideally a 4QB construction will allow you the flexibility to play matchups and still be covered in case an unexpected change of circumstances arises.

Your draft approach will vary depending on whether you play Superflex or 1QB formats. In standard Yahoo 1QB leagues I wouldn't take any signal-caller except Arch in the top-50. For the top-100 and I'd expand that list to Trinidad Chambliss, Devon Dampier and Drew Mestemaker, in that order. Keep in mind the 4-point passing touchdown format greatly depreciates the efficacy of pass-only, pro style quarterbacks. So I wouldn't make the mistake of reaching for Dante Moore within the first 10 rounds when you can take a dual-threat with 25 FPPG potential later on.

Fantasy football draft season is upon us! Whether you're new to fantasy or have been playing for years, ******* yst Joel Smyth brings useful strategies that will help you this season. From No. 1 being the simplest to No. 10 being the most advanced, here are 10 tips to help you win your fantasy drafts.
This may be the simplest tip, but it is also the most important. Fantasy football has blossomed over the years and now comes in all shapes and sizes, and it's extremely important you know what shape and size your draft is. The difference between a Superflex 10-team league and a half-PPR 14-team league is night and day — more on scoring here. Find out every possible detail, how many teams are in the playoffs, how many starting spots per team, even what week your fantasy championship will be, and research from there.

It may be fun to draft a kicker in the 10th round, but it isn't very profitable. Fantasy is already unpredictable, and when it comes to these two positions, not only does that remain true, but there are endless options and the tiniest of edge to work for. Last season, the No. 1 fantasy defense was only a couple points better than the 12th-ranked team, and that 12th-ranked team went on to outscore the top team by a mile in the fantasy playoffs. Don't buy your lottery tickets early if the odds are the same later on.
It's tempting when you see four straight receivers being drafted in front of you to follow suit. For the most part, you shouldn't. If you love a player, or truly believe the tier continues, go for it; otherwise, panic usually leads to loss of value. Rather than getting the lowest of a position to follow the herd, taking the best player available elsewhere naturally leads to more overall value. If quarterbacks are flying early, be patient, and capitalize on the value at other positions while people reach for others.
