"The Matrix" director Lilly Wachowski issued blunt comments about J.K. Rowling in a new interview, accusing the "Harry Potter" writer of funding transgender genocide. Now, the prolific author has responded via a statement from a representative, highlighting the right to free speech.
Jeffrey Mayer/JTMPhotos, Int'l. / MEGA
Following Wachowski accusing Rowling of "funding trans genocide" and lumping her in with ****** s, her agent, Neil Blair, issued a response to the filmmaker via Entertainment Weekly. Blair began, "Freedom of speech is a principle we should all cherish."
The statement continued, "What matters is that J.K. Rowling's views, as with anyone else's, are represented accurately, fairly and respectfully and that individual opinion does not detract from those views."
In addressing the "Matrix" director directly, the agent noted, "To correct Lilly Wachowski, through The J.K. Rowling Women's Fund, J.K Rowling supports women taking legal action in the UK to preserve their existing rights under the Equality Act 2010, which are often overlooked or threatened."

It has been a rough start to the season for the New England Patriots. They dropped the Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks 13-10 and lost their star wide receiver AJ Brown for at least the next four games in the process with a high ankle sprain.
Brown exited the game in the third quarter and did not return. New England scored all their points in the first half and were held without points after Brown exited. Their top receivers are now Romeo Doubs, Demario Douglas and Mack Hollins although quarterback Drake Maye could not seem to get on the same page as Doubs who did not have a single catch.
Douglas finished the opener with five catches but only 20 yards while Hollins was the Patriots' leading receiver with 51 total yards. Rookie tight end Eli Raridon scored New England's only touchdown of the game in the second quarter.
Not only are the Patriots without Brown for the next four weeks at least, but they are also currently without running back TreVeyon Henderson who missed the opener. It is unclear whether or not he will be available for New England's week two matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Perhaps in the only bright spot of the game for them, Rhamondre Stevenson had a good game in relief of Henderson with 95 scrimmage yards - 51 rushing yards and 44 receiving yards on five receptions. Nonetheless, adjusting the offense to Brown being out of the lineup is going to be difficult for the reigning AFC Champions who will face the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills without their top receiver.

Patriots news: Dre'Mont Jones grabs attention with NSFW shot at Seahawks appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Dre'Mont Jones made sure New England Patriots fans had something to talk about. That's even after a brutal opening-night defeat to his former team. Following the Patriots' 13-10 Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Jones took to Instagram. He posted an in-game photograph of himself driving Seattle QB Sam Darnold into the turf. The outside linebacker made the message unmistakable by tagging an account handle reading @f***_the_seahawks in the bottom-right corner of the post. The NSFW jab quickly spread across social media.
Jones spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Seattle after signing a three-year contract. However, his tenure ultimately ended with friction before he landed in New England. Now a key piece of Mike Vrabel's Patriots defense, Jones appears to have plenty of unfinished business with his former team. His latest post made that abundantly clear.
The Patriots' 0–1 start already carries plenty of frustration. New England's defense dominated for much of the opener. They limited Seattle and knocked Darnold from the game. However, the offense collapsed late as Drake Maye threw three second-half interceptions. The Patriots also lost prized wide receiver AJ Brown to an ankle injury. That added another concern to an otherwise highly anticipated campaign. With Christian Gonzalez recently securing a record-setting four-year extension, expectations remain high in Foxborough. New England now gets an extended mini-bye before hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meanwhile, Jones has added another spark to a rivalry that suddenly feels far from settled.

The San Francisco 49ers defense was on the field first, and it didn't take long for Fred Warner and Nick Bosa to make an impact.
Bosa hit Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford on his first dropback. He followed that up with a tackle for loss on the ensuing drive. Warner broke up the intended pass to Puka Nacua.
After Deommodore Lenoir made a tackle, the Rams went three-and-out.
Brock Purdy used his shiny new toy on his first third down of the game. Evans beat Quentin Lake for a seven-yard reception to move the sticks. It came after an inexplicable drop.
Purdy played with fire on the first drive, after a Drake Maye impersonation. Purdy threw off his back foot, and the throw was nearly intercepted just shy of the end zone. Thankfully, Trent McDuffie landed out of bounds.

Stephen A. Smith Calls Out Drake Maye and Romeo Doubs After Patriots Loss originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
With A.J. Brown expected to be out for the next four games, there is going to be a lot of focus on multiple players in New England's offense.
At the top of that list will be Romeo Doubs, who finished Wednesday night's game, his Patriots debut, with zero catches on three targets.
This was about as ugly of a start to the year as anybody could have imagined, though it's also important to recognize that it was just the first game of the season and Doubs will get more comfortable as the year goes on.
Despite that reality, it doesn't sound like Stephen A. Smith of ESPN is giving him much grace or time to figure things out. In fact, Smith had a lot to say about what could happen if Brown is injured, and none of it was very kind to Doubs.

Why Patriots' Josh McDaniels, TreVeyon Henderson injury deserve some blame for Drake Maye's putrid night appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots did a lot of things correctly in their season opener against the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. They went across the country and played an excellent game for three quarters in front of the crazed and full-throated 12s at Lumen Field in Seattle. However, their 10-3 lead disappeared in the fourth quarter as quarterback Drake Maye was careless with the football and that turned potential victory into a 13-10 defeat. Maye threw two of his three interceptions in the final quarter.
The final interception by Seahawk defensive back Josh Jobe came in the end zone came with 26 seconds remaining. Maye threw up a high-arching balloon to wide out Mack Hollins from the Seattle 16-yard line and Jobe was able to outfight the Patriots receiver for the ball. That play prevented New England from sending out PK Andy Borregales to attempt a 33-yard field goal that would have tied the game.
There is little doubt that Maye's pass was a poor effort and should not have been thrown. However, the play call made by offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was reckless. The Seattle pass defense had come to life in the fourth quarter and had shown the ability to blanket Patriots receivers. The pass into the end zone was a risky proposition when it was called by McDaniels and it put Maye at risk of throwing the costly interception.

One of the best play-by-play broadcasters in American professional sports is the incredible Kevin Harlan. No matter what you are watching, the entertainment is raised exponentially if Kevin Harlan is on the call. Wednesday night's season opening game between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots was a defensive thriller, coming down to an interception in the end zone to preserve the Seattle victory.
Already, the situation was dramatic enough. The Seahawks survived losing their starting quarterback, and despite being without two starting safeties (three, if you want to count Bud Clark who was lost in the preseason) the Seattle defense was just as suffocating as ever. Seattle successfully defended home turf against the team they crushed in the Super Bowl on the night they were celebrating their championship.
Little did I know the ending was actually more exciting than it was, and I give all the credit to Kevin Harlan who was calling the game for a radio audience. Harlan's final call of Jobe's interception was actually caught on film, and the video of his epic broadcast is one that needs to be seen.
What makes this video extra entertaining is seeing members of the Patriots coaching staff in the next booth over, looking incredibly dejected.
Seattle's defense was sublime on Wednesday. They intercepted Drake Maye on all three final possessions the Patriots had. Two led directly to Seahawk points, and the third ended the rematch. Drake Maye only had one multi-interception game all last season: Super Bowl LX. Now, he begins the 2026 campaign having thrown three in the first game.

Third quarter, down 10-0: "Well, it's not like 2025 started that great, either."
Fourth quarter, as Drake Maye lofts the illest-advised pass of his career to your new favorite player, Joshua Jobe, Esq.: "Knew it. They had it all the way."
With a season-opening 13-10 rope-a-doping of Maye and his New England Patriots, the Seattle Seahawks began their Super Bowl defense the right way. The confounding questions surrounding the secondary were answered with three picks in the final frame, and the thorniest question about depth was answered when Drew Lock essentially saved the day in relief of Sam Darnold.
Yes, it took Seattle three nigh-unwatchable quarters to get the bugs out. But once that fumigation was done, we were treated to an evening of fun-igation, punctuated with everything a championship team does when it's not quite ready to relinquish its **** le. Including having a kicker who knocks 'em through the uprights. Did I mention they answered just about all the preseason questions we had?
But first, as is their modus operandi, the Hawks had to torture us like 53 grown versions of Sid Phillips, or maybe the pigeons from that old Bud Light commercial, you know, the ones who see **** targets on every car. Yes that's it, felt like **** targets. Every time something cool happened, something stinky hit the fan and made you guano tear your hair out.

Though Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's poor fourth quarter downed the Patriots in Wednesday's season-opener against the Seahawks, head coach Mike Vrabel expressed confidence that the young signal-caller will be better going forward.
While Maye's decision-making, timing, and accuracy may have been issues for his first two picks in the fourth quarter, his third was the most troubling given the game situation. Vrabel noted that before the fateful interception, the situation had been detailed to Maye by the coaching staff.
"If it's there, obviously we want to try to be aggressive," Vrabel said. "But if not, we're not losing any yards. And certainly don't want to give them a chance to make a play. So, that was the conversation that went in."
"Everything in the passing game is built on timing, built on protection," Vrabel added "And so, again, if it's not where you want it, in the timing of that particular play, and protection — just have to throw it away and say, 'Can't win it on this throw.' Drake will learn from it. We'll all learn from it. And, hopefully, we'll be better for it in the end."
Vrabel noted that the Patriots have seen Maye make good decisions with the football and feel like that will continue in the future.

Patriots news: Drake Maye's rough opener has Will Campbell silver lining appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
On Wednesday evening, the New England Patriots choked a double-digit second-half lead and dropped their first game of the season to the Seattle Seahawks in a rematch of last year's Super Bowl. Quarterback Drake Maye tossed three interceptions in the fourth quarter alone, including a brutal decision on a late third down when New England was in position to at least tie the game with a field goal.
However, it wasn't all bad news on the offensive side of the ball for New England.
"Will Campbell allowed just 1 pressure on 44 pass block snaps last night, a major improvement over the 8 pressures he allowed in the Super Bowl. He's on pace for a leap forward in year 2 now that he's fully healthy," reported NFL Draft Files on X, formerly Twitter.

The 2026 NFL season will be Jared Goff's sixth season in a Detroit Lions uniform. Goff played in all 17 games last season for Detroit. He completed 68.0% of his passes for 4,564 yards, 34 touchdowns and eight interceptions, finishing second in the NFL in both passing yards and passing touchdowns.
That production still was not enough to put him inside the top 10 at his position entering this season.
Nick Shook of NFL.com sorted all 32 starting quarterbacks into tiers ahead of Week 1. Tier 1 held only four names: Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, Patrick Mahomes and Drake Maye. Goff landed in Tier 2 at No. 11 overall, one spot outside the top 10.
Shook wrote, "Jared Goff and the Lions have plenty to prove after missing the playoffs last season, although their offensive line concerns me and could be an issue if it doesn't collectively elevate its play in 2026."
Detroit finished 9-8 last season, fourth in the NFC North, and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2022. The Lions will look to get back for the third time in four seasons when they open the season against the New Orleans Saints at Ford Field on Sunday.

Drake Maye walked into Lumen Field on Wednesday night looking to open his season with a statement win over the defending Super Bowl champions. Instead, the young Patriots quarterback endured one of the toughest nights of his career.
Maye completed 23 of 33 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown, but three interceptions and three sacks piled up as New England fell 13-10 to the Seattle Seahawks. Still, Maye showed his toughness on the ground, carrying the ball seven times for 47 yards.
One of those runs turned into a scary moment. In the first quarter, as Maye stepped out of bounds, Seahawks linebacker Derick Hall shoved him well after the play had ended.

The NFL is kicking off again with an absolutely loaded first week of games. The biggest face-offs launching the 2026 season include a Super Bowl rematch and a battle in Oz, with plenty of roster additions and subtractions that will transform your favorite teams. But for better or worse?
Read on to find out, in our top five most anticipated Week 1 matchups.
When: 8:20 p.m. ET
Where: NBC, Peacock
Week 1's opening game is also its most anticipated, as the Patriots take on the team that wiped the floor with them in a Super Bowl rematch. Will the Seahawks' dominant defense hold after the loss of key pieces like Riq Woolen and Coby Bryant? Or will New England QB Drake Maye achieve redemption (he had six sacks and two interceptions in Super Bowl LX) now that he's got protection from guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, and receivers A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs catching passes instead of the other team?

NFL Expert Predicts Patriots Regression After Super Bowl Run originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots transformed themselves from a rebuilding team into the AFC champion during Mike Vrabel's first season as head coach.
One national NFL expert does not expect them to reproduce that success in 2026.
Sporting News' Vinnie Iyer predicted New England will finish 10-7, surrender the AFC East to the Buffalo Bills and exit the playoffs in the divisional round.
That outcome would still represent a strong season for a team led by 24-year-old quarterback Drake Maye. It also would feel disappointing after the Patriots came within one victory of winning another Super Bowl.

From Travis Scott and David Harbour to Tory Burch, stars gathered at the 2026 US Open game dressed to their nines. Among them was New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's wife, whose outfit grabbed fans' attention and is receiving tons of praise.
"Okay, outfit of the day going to the U.S. Open," Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's wife, Ann Michael Maye, said on her TikTok account. "My dress is this little white mini dress from Abercrombie. The sweater is J Crew. These little cute flats are from Marshalls, and then my bag is Distry. So, yeah, let's go. Okay."
This isn't the first time Ann Michael Maye turned heads with her outfit. She came to Santa Clara in 2026 to cheer for her husband, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, as he prepared to face the Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium.
For the big day, Ann Michael stole the show in a custom cropped navy Patriots jacket made by Kristin Juszczyk, the wife of 49ers star Kyle Juszczyk. The jacket had the Patriots logo, and she matched it with studded white jeans, a slicked-back bun, gold earrings, and oversized sunglasses.
Drake Maye's Patriots are worth following, especially with all the storylines brewing in New England. Subscribe for more interesting stories.

A clip from the latest Forged in Foxborough episode has gone viral.
It's a video from the New England Patriots' joint training camp practice against the Philadelphia Eagles. A.J. Brown being traded to New England back in June instantly made it one of the most anticipated joint training camp practices of the year.
The Patriots came out firing on Day 1 with the offense consistently getting the better of the Eagles' defense. Most notably, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's connection with Brown seemed unstoppable at times. There was one sequence where Brown separated from a defender on a route and caught an easy touchdown pass from Maye.
Williams could be seen standing on the sidelines trolling his former Eagles teammates, who had to watch Brown score for the Patriots.
"Guess who? Guess who?" Williams said.

Mike Vrabel Reveals Most Important Drake Maye Change Since Super Bowl originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Drake Maye's physical talent has never been difficult to identify.
The New England Patriots quarterback can attack every part of the field, create outside the pocket and turn a collapsing play into a significant gain. Those traits helped Maye develop into an MVP candidate and carry New England to the Super Bowl last season. Mike Vrabel, however, believes Maye's most important growth has occurred in areas that are much harder to see.
The Patriots head coach was asked Thursday to identify the biggest difference between the quarterback who walked off the field following New England's Super Bowl loss and the one preparing to face the Seattle Seahawks again.
Vrabel's answer focused on three qualities.

The Las Vegas Raiders aren't quite ready to give Fernando Mendoza the key to their franchise. However, the number one pick in the 2026 NFL Draft is expected to get to that point this season.
NFL teams have very different philosophies when it comes to starting rookie quarterbacks. Many franchises hand over the reigns to their highly-coveted players immediately, including Drake Maye and Caleb Williams.
Meanwhile, the Raiders do have precedent when it comes to taking things slow with their new QB. Klint Kubiak recently announced that Kirk Cousins will start Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.
That puts Mendoza in the same category as Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Baker Mayfield when he was drafted first overall. The Cleveland Browns opted to keep Mayfield on the sidelines for the first week in 2018.

The New England Patriots were quite busy over the weekend, making 42 combined transactions to go from previously 91 to 53 players on their active roster. A majority of those moves were expected to happen, but the team of head coach Mike Vrabel nonetheless managed to pull off some minor surprises.
With that in mind, let's take a look at the moves that can be qualified as surprises through the lens of our established winners and losers format. It would be easy to label the 53 men on the active roster as winners and the rest as losers, but every situation is different and the reality much more nuanced than simply asking who is in or out.
QB Behren Morton: With Drake Maye a franchise-caliber player and Tommy DeVito an able and experienced backup, the top of the Patriots' quarterback depth chart was set in stone throughout the summer. The question was whether or not Morton had done enough to warrant being kept as one of the 53 players on the roster. Turns out he had. Despite some shortcomings elsewhere on the team, he made it through cutdown day as QB3 and the projected emergency option on game day.
OT Dametrious Crownover: Shortly before the cutdown deadline at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, the Patriots made a trade with the Vikings to bring in versatile offensive lineman Walter Rouse, a player capable of lining up at both tackle and guard. And yet, despite his presence, the team decided to keep four pure tackles on the initial 53. Three of those — Will Campbell, Morgan Moses, Caleb Lomu — were set in stone to begin with, but Crownover's position seemed less secure with Rouse in the mix. However, he seemingly had nothing to worry about and done enough over the summer to secure a roster spot in lieu of nominal OT4 Marcus Bryant.
ED Quintayvious Hutchins: The defensive edge had been in the spotlight going back to the offseason, and it remains a question at this point as well. Through the cutdown deadline, however, the Patriots opted to go with four players, Hutchins among them. His inclusion over fellow edges Bradyn Swinson and Jesse Luketa might have come surprisingly, but the seventh-round draft pick has developed nicely over the summer to make the pair expendable.

Christie Brinkley and her 28-year-old daughter, Sailor Brinkley Cook, sported coordinating outfits during a recent concert.
The pair attended John Mayer's live performance for Sirius XM at Stephen Talkhouse on Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the Hamptons.
The 72-year-old model wore a low-cut blue lace top, flared jeans, and cowboy boots. She paired it with a Western-inspired belt and fringe brown purse. Her daughter matched, wearing blue jeans and a brown belt. She also wore a cropped black top, denim jacket, and black boots.
At the private event, Mayer paid tribute to Dolly Parton, who passed away earlier this week. According to People, Mayer played "I Will Always Love You."
"Dolly would be really happy to see that … the world came together in a way that it hadn't in a very long time to celebrate someone," Mayer reportedly said before the show. "While the world is paying tribute to one person and one soul, which feels good on its own, we're all connected while that's happening. I haven't felt connected like that for a long time."
