The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield have yet to finalize a contract extension, but ESPN insider Adam Schefter believes it's only a matter of time before an agreement is reached.
Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Schefter said he expects the two sides to work out a new contract despite negotiations extending into training camp.

What that is exactly New England's star defender would rather keep private, even after owner Robert Kraft's public proclamations that the deal the team has put on the table is larger than any offered in Patriots history.

A year ago, the Bears signed cornerback Kyler Gordon to a three-year, $40 million contract extension. They didn't get much for their investment.
Gordon played in just three games last season as he struggled with groin, hamstring and calf injuries. Now he's on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp, and Bears General Manager Ryan Poles says everyone in Chicago is getting frustrated.
"Kyler Gordon on PUP, with his calf, he was here all offseason training, getting right. We had a delay in that. All hands on deck to get him back," Poles said. "He's frustrated, we're frustrated. We just want him back. He helps our football team. But we have to move forward with the guys we have, and when he's ready to go he'll be ready to go. Everybody here is putting all their time and effort to get him back right."
Asked how much time Gordon will miss, Poles said there's no word on that.
"I really don't know. He's got to get right and the important thing we've all talked about is when he gets back he's got to stay back," Poles said. "When he gets back he's got to earn that trust back."

Just before the Chicago Bears opened training camp this week, big news came out that could grab the attention of the front office with a position player they could use having requested a trade. According to several NFL insiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea, a former first-round pick in 2018, has requested a trade due to stalled contract negotiations.
While it could just be a ploy to get the franchise to bite into his favor during contract talks, Vea's trade request should immediately perk the ears of Bears general manager Ryan Poles. Coming into this season, the Bears really only have Gervon Dexter Sr. and Grady Jarrett as their production leaders at the defensive tackle but severely lack depth behind him, and Jarrett underperformed in his first season with Chicago last year.
The question now becomes if the Bears should entertain a trade for Vea, and if they do, what would that look like to acquire him, as there's no doubt he'd be a big upgrade to the defensive line as a whole. The Bears were one of the worst run defenses in the NFL last year, allowing 134.5 yards per game to opponents, as well as a 5.0 yard per carry average to opposing running backs. Over the last several seasons, Vea has been among the best run stoppers in the league, and in 2024 he had the best season of his career with 7.0 sacks and 10 tackles for loss on the year. If Chicago believes that Vea could lead the defensive tackle position, and improve their run defense, they should swing big if they can make it work from a financial fit, because he would most certainly be a big upgrade on the field.

Manchester City have confirmed that Josko Gvardiol has signed a new long-term contract, keeping the Croatia international at the Etihad until at least 2031.
The 24-year-old has agreed a five-year extension, with the club holding the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months. Gvardiol becomes the second City defender to commit his future this week, following Abdukodir Khusanov's new deal.
Since joining from RB Leipzig in 2023, Gvardiol has developed into one of City's most important players. Comfortable at both centre-back and left-back, he has made 122 appearances, scored 13 goals and helped the club win six major trophies, including the Premier League and FIFA Club World Cup.
