The lightweight showdown between Renato Moicano and Brian Ortega has been scrapped from Saturday's UFC 331 card in Los Angeles.
Ortega suffered an undisclosed injury and as a result, his fight has been cancelled and Moicano is no longer competing on the card. Instead, Moicano now faces riding lightweight contender Tom Nolan in the main event for the upcoming UFC Fight Night card scheduled on Oct. 31 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
UFC officials announced the news on Monday.
With Moicano vs. Ortega no longer happening, UFC 331, the card is down to 12 total fights with the heavyweight matchup between Gable Steveson and Sean Sharaf now opening the main card on Saturday night.
UFC 331 is headlined by a flyweight ******* le fight as Joshua Van puts his belt up for grabs against former champion Alexandre Pantoja.

WARSAW — Westview faced a few challenges Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Warsaw Tiger Soccer Complex.
Not only was the heat index at or above 90 degrees for the afternoon match, but the Class 1A No. 1 Warriors were facing a strong Class 3A Tigers team who was coming off a 2-1 loss at 3A No. 2 Homestead. Westview battled for the entire match but ultimately fell, 3-2, dropping its record to 6-2 on the season.
"We knew Warsaw was going to play possession with us in the middle," Westview head coach Drew Ryall said. "(Senior) Olivia (Bontrager), (junior) Makenna (Bender) and (junior) Josie (Ryall) tend to dominate the middle, but we knew Warsaw was going to have their way a little bit more today than other teams we've played.
"We were really pleased with our defensive shape and communication and making it really hard on (the Tigers)."
The Warriors scored first when sophomore goalkeeper Breanna Garrett — making her first career varsity start — sent a long punt that freshman Kierra Roose ended up putting in the net in the 5th minute.

Clemson's season opener could not have gone much worse, and social media had plenty to say about it.
The Tigers were blasted 51-10 by LSU on Saturday night, handing Dabo Swinney the largest loss of his Clemson coaching career. As the score continued to get away from Clemson, fans, ***** ysts and college football accounts quickly turned the performance into one of the biggest talking points of the night.
Much of the criticism centered on just how one-sided the matchup became. LSU finished with 644 total yards while Clemson managed only 145, and the Tigers were beaten 38-8 in first downs.
Those numbers gave Clemson fans very little to defend, while rival fan bases wasted no time piling on.
The reaction was especially harsh considering the expectations surrounding the program entering the season. Instead of making an early statement, Clemson left Baton Rouge with an 0-1 record and plenty of questions.

Added Tony ***** , sports management professor at Baldwin Wallace University and former Cleveland Browns ***** istant head groundskeeper: "[N]atural turf is safer in a perfect setting. But if you have the situation like you have in Buffalo — and I went back and watched the film — you cannot tell me that field was safer than the artificial turf they just left. . . . All-American outside hitter Kenna Wollard was on the sideline with her team, dressed in street clothes.
Wollard, who last season was a second-team All-American and Midwest Region Player of the Year who entered 2026 on the preseason National Player of the Year watch list, announced on social media last week she would be taking a hiatus "with an unexpected health issue that will keep me away for a little while."

The Tennessee **** ans have started to churn their practice squad, one day after signing 16 players to the unit.
On Tuesday, Tennessee made multiple changes to the practice squad, including bringing back wide receiver Xavier Restrepo after he cleared waivers.
The **** ans also signed cornerback Shemar Bartholomew, who was released by the Green Bay Packers. Originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the New York Jets in 2024, Bartholomew has appeared in 6 career games with the Carolina Panthers and the Packers, making seven total tackles.
To make room for these additions, Tennessee only had to make one move, and waived cornerback Mario Goodrich III.
There was also a report by Justin Melo that the **** ans intended to bring back safety Jerrick Reed, but they did not follow through with that on Tuesday.

Well, that was a bit of a damp squib of a "match one", wasn't it?
It was always going to be a bit "meh" for me, to be honest – I erroneously made arrangements to have lunch with some old friends on Saturday (family pals, not footy mates), which I was really looking forward to and enjoyed a lot, but I knew would probably overrun. Before a ball was kicked, I'd settled for maybe seeing some of the second half, and hopefully seeing us do well.
As it transpired, I failed as a so-called "fan" to greater depths than the lads did – I couldn't get any visibility of the match until about ten minutes from the end, when a family member shared a rather dodgy internet link. By the time that got working, I watched Jack Clarke bend it into the bottom corner (as we have seen him do so many times), and that was that.
After only seeing the tail end and watching us lose to an "ex", the whole weekend took a bit of a nosedive in terms of football feelings for me. I still haven't watched the highlights even now (Tuesday morning as I draft this), such has been the underlying indifference around the fixture and my disappointment.
But when I woke up yesterday morning, I thought I'd take a look at what this may mean based on last season's first matches… and while it's a bit of a mixed bag, it's far from the Armageddon some online bed-wetters have already made it out to be.

Coming off a breakthrough 11-3 season, Virginia finds itself in the rather unusual position of returning an offensive line basically intact and having to replace just about everything around it. There are worse places to start when it comes to rebuilding an offense, though.
The o-line returns a couple of guys who were third-team All-ACC honorees last season, including left tackle McKale Boley and also adds in a couple of veterans who were supposed to be impact transfers last season before getting hurt. The starting five listed on UVA's depth chart for this week includes two seventh-year players, two sixth-year players, and one young fifth-year guy. Sign of the times, huh.
This should be the clear strength of Virginia's offense, which is good given that it is going to need time for new quarterback Beau Pribula to acclimate to his new surroundings. Pribula wasn't very good at Missouri last season (11-9 TD-INT, 7.2 YPA), as evidenced by the fact that he is no longer at Missouri, and he along with a largely new receiving corps leaves plenty of uncertainty for the Cavaliers to sort through. UVA hedged a bit in bringing ex-Pitt starter Eli Holstein in as well—which could end up looking like a shrewd move, depending.
UVA hit on several big running plays in Raleigh last season and averaged over 8.0 yards per carry for the game as a result, but gone is 1,000-yard rusher J'Mari Taylor (he ran for 150 against State), and in his place to begin 2026 is Jekail Middlebrook, who ran for 752 yards at Middle Tennessee last season.
I'm sure Virginia would love to dictate terms up front and take as much pressure off of its passing game as possible. It's tough to guess at the ceiling of that passing game or how cohesive it will look in the first game of the season, but if the Cavs end up pushing NC State's defensive front around, they can work around a lot of issues.

Memphis football is officially in game week.
The Tigers will face UNLV in Las Vegas on Aug. 29 (9 p.m., FOX). And it's a game that could have College Football Playoff implications.
"There's so many different storylines," UNLV coach Dan Mullen said at his press conference on Aug. 24.
For one, the Tigers and Rebels will play on national television as one of the marquee games during the opening weekend of the season. Both teams are expected to compete near the top of their respective conferences, so it could be a game that gets talked about later in the season when potential playoff resumes are being compared.
"You won't feel it maybe after this game, but there's going to be a lot of discussion about this game as the season goes on," Mullen said. "Especially late into November. It can have a lot of implications on who's where for the playoff race."

USC football enters a pivotal and defining season in the Lincoln Riley era. The 2026 campaign can be reduced to a simple question: "If not now, when?" When will Riley get over the hump, if he ever does? This might be his last chance. The man who likely holds the biggest key to Riley's fate is Gary Patterson, but a very close second - arguably just as important as Patterson if you want to argue the case - is strength coach Trumain Carroll.
We can all appreciate the importance of Trumain Carroll on a general level. Bennie Wylie wasn't good enough as strength coach. USC needed an upgrade at that position on staff. Carroll was Lincoln Riley's answer. Carroll was hired late in the 2025 offseason cycle, so last season could never have been used as a real gauge of how good he really is. The 2026 season will give us a much better answer - maybe not a complete one, but surely a fuller one.
The more specific and urgent way to express how significant this season is for Trumain Carroll is as follows: He gets a chance to implement a strength program so good, so airtight, so successful that it can overturn Lincoln Riley's deserved reputation for coaching and cultivating soft teams which get beaten up by elite opponents. Riley's early success at Oklahoma came from the work of a previous strength coach who served under Bob Stoops, the head coach who hired Riley as offensive coordinator before stepping down and handing Riley the keys to the Sooner program. Riley eventually hired Bennie Wylie to replace that other strength coach. Oklahoma steadily got weaker as Riley's OU tenure continued. Wylie them came to USC and didn't deliver the goods.
Trumain Carroll has a chance to wipe away the Bennie Wylie years and give Riley - and USC - a tough identity it hasn't had for quite some time. That's where Trumain Carroll can make a lasting difference for the Trojans.

Lazio have secured a new sleeve sponsor in Kaiyunsports.news, giving the club an important financial boost.
Earlier this month, the Aquile parted ways with their main shirt sponsor, Polymarket, as the company was blacklisted in Italy for allegedly offering its clients unauthorised betting activities. Nevertheless, Polymarket still paid Lazio the entire sum allocated for the 2026/27 campaign as per their original agreement. The club therefore picked up an estimated €9.5 million as remuneration.
The Italian capital club has yet to find a new main shirt sponsor, but on Saturday, they announced an agreement with digital platform Kaiyunsports.news, whose logo will be placed on the club's jersey in Serie A games for the next two seasons. Lazio made the announcement via a note published on the club's official website.

The Chicago Cubs are going all in on this season, and they made that abundantly clear at this year's trade deadline, acquiring multiple pieces to give themselves the best chance to win. That included landing right-hander Kevin Gausman in a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.

That's cool. But the nostalgia is over. Now, Beckham's comeback after a year away from football is only about whether he can make the Giants' season-opening 53-man roster.
It's a good question without an obvious answer.
Beckham entered Saturday's game with less than six minutes left in the first half. He played 16 snaps. He caught two passes for a measly 6 yards on Saturday. Some will point out there was a play on which Beckham was open but did not get the ball. I have heard and read the same all summer from some of my media cohorts. To me, "open, but …" doesn't matter. The tape will tell the decision-makers what they need to know.

Gabriel Martinelli is the subject of transfer interest from Galatasaray after they failed to sign Rafa Leao, but the ****** nal man does not want to leave and certainly does not want to move to Turkiye.
In recent seasons, Martinelli's form has not been the best, and there is a good chance that he will remain on the bench for Christos Tzolis to start games at ****** nal. Martinelli appears determined to continue his career elsewhere rather than in Turkiye if he eventually leaves ****** nal. Despite the potential financial benefits of a move, the Brazilian winger has no desire to join Galatasaray at this stage of his career.

The Detroit Tigers pulled All-Star left fielder Riley Greene after he was hit by a pitch in the second inning of the series-opener against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
In his first and only at-bat against Guardians starter Tanner Bibee, a 3-2 fastball came too far inside and hit Greene in the lower right leg. Greene continued his running with a trip from first base to home on an RBI double from first baseman Spencer Torkelson, giving the Tigers the game's first run. Greene sprinted around the bases seemingly without issue.
But he remained in the third-base dugout for the top of the third inning. Ben Malgeri took Greene's place in left field for the top of the third. Cleveland evened the game at 1-1 with a no-doubt Chase DeLauter solo home run off Tigers starter Drew Anderson in the third.
Greene has been an iron man for the Tigers. The three-time All-Star corner outfielder had appeared in 116 of the Tigers' 118 games so far this season, either in left field or as a designated hitter. Greene is hitting .273 with 16 home runs and 54 RBIs on the season.

As the football season quickly approaches, high school teams across Arkansas are ramping up their practices in preparation for the upcoming games. In a scary turn of events, one Maumelle High School player discovered he had been unknowingly sharing his helmet with a dangerous reptile for more than an hour during an August practice session.
The player from Maumelle High School had been practicing with a cottonmouth, one of the most venomous snakes native to Arkansas, nestled in the padding of his helmet.
The snake went undetected throughout drills until the player noticed persistent discomfort and alerted the coaching staff. Upon closer inspection, the coaches were stunned to find the two-foot-long Cottonmouth coiled inside the helmet lining.
Cottonmouth snakes possess potent venom that, if bitten, can cause intense pain, swelling, and tissue damage. Although deaths are uncommon, prompt medical treatment is essential to prevent lasting tissue loss or scarring.
Maumelle Animal Services responded to the scene and carefully extracted the cottonmouth from the helmet without incident. The snake was safely relocated to a wooded area far from the school grounds.
