Well, there's not much to say about this lineup. David Peterson throws with his left hand. The Braves don't have Lane Thomas on hand anymore, so it's basically your standard lineup with Sean Murphy and Ha-Seong Kim bringing up the rear.
This is the same lineup the Braves used in what ended up being that 12-2 game against the Phillies. Given that Peterson probably won't last long given his inefficiency, the Braves may be hoping for a similar result.
I guess I'll talk about Ozzie Albies. He's hitting cleanup for the 21st time this season. His season is basically tanking. He started out with a near-.400 wOBA in April while running an average xwOBA, had a poor May, an okay-ish June, and then ran another huge xwOBA overperformance on a bad xwOBA in July. Since then, it's been absolutely grim. In August, he had a .275 wOBA and .283 xwOBA. In September, he's down to a .212 wOBA and .218 xwOBA. As has also been the case for a while, Albies is no longer terrorizing lefties. In his first seven seasons, he had five where he hit lefties super-well, and one of the ones where he didn't was a tiny-sample 2020 where he was hurt. In both 2024 and 2025, his xwOBA against lefties dwindled to an okay .325ish. This year? He's down to .282. He's only posted an xwOBA at or above .300 against lefties this season in April and July. In September so far, it's .171. There's not really that much time for Albies to change the script of his season, but this is a really disappointing follow-up to 2025 and it's going to be the third straight year where Albies turns in an underwhelming season.
Anyway, should we do batter versus pitcher while waiting for the Cubs to post their lineup? Sure, I guess. These guys are very familiar with Peterson, after all. Amazingly, neither Drake Baldwin nor Mauricio Dubon have ever faced Peterson, and Kim only has four PAs against him, but everyone else has somewhere between 12 and 30. Ronald Acuña Jr. and Matt Olson have destroyed Peterson in their careers, and Riley's been fine, but everyone else has struggled a bit. Add this all up, and you get a .318 wOBA and .347 xwOBA in 141 career head-to-head PAs.
As for the Cubs, well…

The Guardians looked rough today in a 6-0 loss to the Tigers. Parker Messick did give up three runs in 6 innings but he also set a career high with 12 strikeouts. He was fantastic tonight. Matt Festa was bad but it wouldn't have mattered considering we couldn't score a single run.
The Guardians lineup managed just three hits and one walk. It is simply impossible to win a game with that type of offensive output. On the bright side, Austin Peterson made his MLB debut and struckout three batters in two scoreless innings of relief. It may have been garbage time but it was still very fun to watch and it's a moment he will never forget.
The Guardians will look to take 3/4 tomorrow. It will be Gavin Williams vs Jackson Jobe at 1:40 pm ET. This is a crucial game for the Guardians.

Sep. 2—BEMIDJI — When looking at the singles side of the Bemidji High School tennis courts, the home fans would be forgiven if they thought Wednesday's match against Staples-Motley took place in 2025.
For much of this season, the Lumberjacks' singles lineup has carried over from last fall. Liz Peterson occupies the top spot, while Lilly Caron and Bailey Rupp typically play Nos. 2 and 3 singles, save for their occasional doubles appearances. Natalie ****** berg rounds out the group at No. 4 singles, just as she did on Wednesday in the Jacks' 6-1 win over the Cardinals.
The real differences so far in the young 2026 season have been on the doubles side of the court. With the departures of Megan Berg, Naomi Johnson and Abby Myhrer, almost every doubles pair had to be retooled for 2026.
Junior Kelli Carlson has been moved up to No. 2, paired with eighth-grader Piper Whiting. Freshmen Norah Friese and Emma Carlson are gaining experience at the No. 3 spot.
Then there are seniors Zoe McNallan and Millie Knott, who have known each other even before they became partners on the tennis court.

Last week, Denver Broncos head coach went scorched earth on FS1's Geoff Schwartz for his Bo Nix take on First Things First. After a few days of reflection, Payton addressed the situation once and for all after the Broncos' final preseason game, a win over the Minnesota Vikings on Friday night.
"That was crazy, wasn't it?" Payton said of the viral exchange. "I can't help myself, though. When I see something like that, I'm sorry. It's just, I have a pause and then it's like, 'What are you watching?' Just watch the tape."
Payton defended Nix once again, something he has found himself doing often since first drafting Nix in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. "Everything was the opposite of what he was saying and the worst part was he played at Oregon," Payton said of Schwartz.
Payton compared Schwartz's take with the first time he ever saw former Vikings stars Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson: It's completely different to see a player in-person than it is to watch a player on tape from the comfort of your home. Payton took one last shot at Schwartz in his post-game remarks. "You've got the basement podcast with the beer logo and I just couldn't help myself with that one," Payton said. "It was silly."

Former Wisconsin Badgers linebacker Darryl Peterson III saved his best performance of the preseason for the biggest moment.
With the Los Angeles Rams clinging to a 20-18 lead over the Los Angeles Chargers, Peterson came up with a game-stealing play that could go a long way toward keeping his NFL dream alive.
Peterson recorded two sacks in the Rams' preseason finale, including an eight-year strip sack of Chargers quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei with just 49 seconds remaining. The play forced a fumble and effectively ended Los Angeles' final attempt at a comeback, allowing the Rams to hold on for the victory and finish the preseason undefeated. It was an impressive conclusion to a preseason that has seen Peterson consistently make his presence felt.
His first sack came earlier in the game when he brought down Trey Lance for a five-yard loss. Peterson then delivered his biggest play of the night when the Rams needed it most.
Peterson entered the preseason fighting for a roster spot after signing with Los Angeles as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin. The Rams signed him and fellow former Badger Nyzier Fourqurean following the 2026 NFL Draft, which marked the first time since 1978 that Wisconsin did not have a player selected.

Ty Simpson got the start and played the entire first half, putting together another quality performance to wrap up his first preseason in the NFL. He led the Rams to a third straight victory, as Los Angeles went a perfect 3-0 this summer ahead of the regular season.
The Rams allowed their first touchdowns of the preseason, giving up two scores to the Chargers, but the defense came through when it needed to most. Darryl Peterson III delivered a game-clinching strip-sack with under a minute to play, sealing the 20-18 win for the Rams.
11: Simpson started the game with 11 completions on his first 12 throws, with the only incompletion being a drop by Tyler Scott.
2: Cam Lampkin had two tackles for a loss, one being a sack and the other a stop on a run play.

Peterson brings 19 seasons of professional and collegiate baseball experience to the position. Before joining the Rumble Ponies, he spent 11 seasons as General Manager of the Worcester Bravehearts, leading the team to four league championships. He joined Binghamton in August of 2025 as ******* istant General Manager of Sales, helping lead the team's sales efforts and build relationships throughout the community.
Peterson succeeds Richard Tylicki, who has been with Binghamton baseball since 1995. Tylicki helped guide the organization through more than three decades of changes and is now moving on to his next chapter.

Today was the much-anticipated debut of Mariners pitching prospect Kade Anderson, but it was a more familiar face who stole the show. Randy Arozarena bookeneded the game with a pair of homers, peppering in a dramatic home run robbery and a clutch infield single, to deliver the Mariners an improbable 5-4 win, meanwhile racking up one of the highest WPAs I've ever seen for a position player in a single game: 1.08. It's not Brandon Crawford's seven-hit game from 2016, but it's gotta be up there. Arozarena, in his free agency year, is having his best season by wRC+ as a big-league regular: 138 before today's game is factored in. He's been the most valuable Mariner in 2026 offensively, and has contributed to more than his fair share of wins while the rest of the team has struggled through injury and doldrums. He's also been the author of more than his fair share of miscues, some outfield defense that at times looks indifferent, and an occasional inattention (like missing the team photo) that makes you wonder what planet Randy is living on.
The answer: Planet Randy. It's Randy's planet. And like Taylor Swift, he makes the rules. Today, Randy decided to orbit himself directly in front of what looked like a surefire Cubs win, repelling Chicago and their hefty dose of fans packed into a sellout crowd at T-Mobile Park and instead delivering the Mariners a series win. It might have been Kade Anderson **** p Day, but it was Randy Arozarena Precession Day (this is a science term that my science friend says means when a planet **** ps how it spins on its axis. I am **** ured the joke works.).
Kade Anderson was as advertised in the first inning, living around the strike zone and challenging hitters. He got his first big-league out on his first big-league pitch, tempting Pete Crow-Armstrong into making weak contact on a well-located heater for an easy pop out. He struggled a little after that with locating the curve, and got into a long battle with Alex Bregman before getting him to chase after a changeup for his first big-league strikeout:

With the warm-up act out of the way, it was time for Planet Randy to take the stage. Arozarena gave his rookie pitcher some run support right away, jumping on the first pitch he saw from lefty David Peterson and driving it into a packed T-Mobile 'Pen: 105.3 mph and 416 feet for Randy's 18th on the season.

PAHOKEE — With the game on the line, Pahokee coach Carlos Lammons put the ball in the hands of a middle schooler.
Quarterback Braylon Peterson, an eighth-grader for all of two weeks, directed a 91-yard drive in the fourth quarter and ended it with a 5-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Sam Harrigan to give the Blue Devils a dramatic 26-21 victory over Dr. Joaquin Garcia on Aug. 21.
Showing the poise of a senior, Peterson was 5-for-6 for 44 yards on the drive, including a crucial fourth-down completion to wide receiver Jacaris Jones.
"Those moments are what young quarterbacks probably dream of," Lammons said. "I'm super proud of him. I think it was a huge thing for his confidence."
The Bulldogs, who rallied from a 20-0 deficit to take a one-point lead after three quarters, appeared to have the game in hand when punter Adrian Labrador fielded a high snap and got off a 48-yard kick that was downed at the Blue Devils' 9-yard line.

The announcements of Tigers finding their way on to watch lists continued on Friday. Princewill Umanmielen, Whit Weeks, and DJ Pickett were each named to the Bednarik Award preseason watch list.
The Chuck Bednarik Award is given annually to college football's best defensive player. The honor is presented by the Maxwell Football Club, the same club that bestows the Maxwell Award to the top overall college football player. Both are two of the most distinguished honors in the sport.
Named after Chuck Bednarik, a former All-American at the University of Pennsylvania and Pro Football Hall of Famer, the award is chosen by a wide variety of voters including NCAA head coaches, sports writers, sports casters, and the members of the Maxwell Football Club. It was established in 1995 and was won most recently by linebacker Jacob Rodriguez from Texas Tech.
Only two players in LSU's program history have earned the honor and they came in back-to-back years. Patrick Peterson won it in 2010, followed by Tyrann Mathieu in 2011.
Princewill Umanmielen came over with Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss and is poised to give Blake Baker a legitimate pass rusher, which they were missing a year ago. The senior defensive end was #3 in the SEC in 2025 with 9.0 sacks. The last time LSU had a player record at least 9.0 sacks was 10 years ago when Arden Key set the program's single-season record with 12.0. Umanmielen is also a force against rushing attacks, finishing #8 in the conference with 13.0 tackles for loss. He was a Third-Team All-SEC selection last year and has already been named to the Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team.

For the majority of Thursday's Region 6 opener, Brighton had an answer for everything Olympus' attack threw its way — especially the unusually high number of hopeful through ****** in behind.
Sometimes, when all else fails, you've just got to test the keeper from distance and hope to get a bit lucky.
It was the perfect recipe for the ****** ans. They forced overtime with a long-range effort in the final minutes of regulation, and then won with an even deeper free kick in double overtime to steal the tense 2-1 rivalry win on their home field under the lights.
"Super excited. Brighton's our rivalry team, and so I feel like coming into the game, that energy was way higher than any game we've played this season," said Olympus senior Emma Peterson.
Annika Speery tied the game in the 77th minute on a shot from about 25 yards out that dipped just under the crossbar. Midway through the second overtime, Peterson won it as she hammered a driven free kick from over 40 yards out that deflected in off the keeper's hands.

For the Los Angeles Rams, the biggest surprise coming into the season was their rapid improvement within the outside linebacker room. Already entering with two-time Pro Bowler Jared Verse, the team used picks and the player to acquire Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett in a blockbuster trade.
In the meantime, Pro Bowler Byron Young has looked great, while Josaiah Stewart took massive strides in the offseason with his development. After their first preseason game, it's becoming apparent that they have tremendous depth within the room, with overlooked players such as Keir Thomas and Desjuan Johnson pushing for more playing time.
Head coach Sean McVay spoke about the depth and progression of the room on Monday.
"I thought they did a good job," said McVay. "I thought Keir and 'Des' made their presence felt. I thought 'D.P.' [Darryl Peterson III] and also Wes Bailey did a good job. Joe Coniglio does a great job with that group as a whole and they got some great guys to be able to learn from with 'B.Y.', obviously Myles and his mentorship here, and I think Josaiah Stewart's taking tremendous strides."
"It'd be great to be able to get him back out there once he's feeling good. I was pleased with those four guys. They did a really nice job the other day and we'll look forward to getting Tomon Fox; he had a little situation he had to deal with with his family. Brooklyn Nets rookie guard Mikel Brown Jr. had some hype around his name after being selected by the Nets with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Brooklyn was able to see Brown in action during the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League and while he had some nice moments, he doesn't appear to be in the running for the Rookie of the Year award.
In the most recent odds posted by BetMGM, Chicago Bulls forward Caleb Wilson and Memphis Grizzlies forward Cameron Boozer are tied for the lead to win the Rookie of the Year award. As this relates to the Nets, Brown has the sixth-best odds of winning the award which could put him in a position to be a darkhorse for the award, but he has some tough competition to beat out.
In addition to the aforementioned Wilson and Boozer, Brown also has to compete with Washington Wizards forward AJ Dybantsa and Utah Jazz guard Darryn Peterson, all players that were drafted ahead of the former Louisville Cardinal. Brown, like most of the rookies in contention for the award, is in a position to get plenty of reps as the starting point guard if he's able to win the job coming out of training camp.
Brown, 20, is coming off a solid summer circuit in which he averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 ****** ists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 38.8% from the field and 34.6% from behind the three-point line. Brown has had some interesting moments over the course of the summer, but next season will show how ready he is to be an NBA-level point guard for head coach Jordi Fernandez.
Brown will be playing alongside forwards Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle so he will be at least third in the offensive pecking order, depending on where guard Egor Demin fits into that equation. If Brown is able to play better than expected, then he could find himself in the running for Rookie of the Year and that's something that Nets fans could be excited about moving forward.

The Chicago Bulls' fourth overall pick in this year's NBA Draft, Wilson quickly impressed amongst the pro ranks earlier this summer, setting a new record for most points in a Summer League debut. Part of a historic Draft class with fellow top-4 picks AJ Dybantsa (first overall), Darryn Peterson (second) and Cameron Boozer (third), Wilson will treat fans to a plethora of exciting matchups in his rookie season.
One of Wilson's first matchups you should be paying attention to is the Bulls' home opener on Saturday, October 24, when they'll be facing Dybantsa and the Washington Wizards.
Wilson's first regular season game will be Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m., when Chicago travels to face the Toronto Raptors. Dybantsa's rookie year begins that same day at 7 p.m., when Washington hosts the new-look Milwaukee Bucks.
Wilson played against the Wizards in Summer League, leading all scorers with 19 points in a 99-87 win, but Dybantsa sat out that game. Later in a postgame interview, Wilson said he'll play any chance he gets, as opposed to resting like his fellow Top-4 picks.

Aug. 10—PULLMAN — Jeremiah Bernard left his feet and dove like he was Superman about to snuff out a local crime. The ball had just left the hands of Owen Eshelman, one of three Washington State quarterbacks vying for starting duties, and it was headed for a receiver toward the sideline of Rogers Practice Field.
It never made it there. Bernard made sure of that, roving over from the safety position and laying out to break up the pass, a feat of athleticism and football savvy. He leapt to his feet in a second, in a heartbeat, the moment's adrenaline propping him back up as quickly as he had soared through the air.
"The guys that we brought in, we're hoping they're gonna be what they are," WSU safeties coach Greg Burns said, "and they're working their **** s off."
A transfer from FCS Cal Poly, Bernard certainly fits that bill, a junior safety who is well on his way to earning a starting role in the Cougs' secondary this fall. Bernard, 6-foot and 196 pounds, doesn't just look the part. He plays like it too, making plays like that seem routine, like they're just in his bag.
How does Bernard fit into WSU's defense? For one, he's a face in a crowded WSU safety room, which also includes San Jose State transfer Jaylen Thomas, Arizona transfer Jshawn Frausto-Ramos and Arizona State transfer Jack Bal. That's without mention ing returners like Kyle Peterson and Kayo Patu, both of whom could also secure roles on this year's defense.

It was reported last week that former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson would be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor this season. The former Oklahoma Sooner is among the best players to ever wear a Vikings uniform and while he is honored by the team that drafted him in 2026, could there be a bigger honor on the horizon for him?
Following the induction of the Hall of Fame class of 2026, all eyes are now on 2027. Within that class are several prominent players, some of whom will be first ballot selections, and among them is Adrian Peterson.
The Vikings have 23 players **** ociated with them in the Hall of Fame. The last player to enter the halls of Canton, Ohio, was Jared Allen in 2025. The Wisconsin Badgers saw a ton of overhaul this offseason with their roster, adding several starters on both sides of the ball as they look to improve on a rough 4-8 campaign in 2025.
While Wisconsin should have new starters on the defensive line, at cornerback, and at safety, there are some key returning pieces that will play important roles for the Badgers as well. The most notable names are returning linebackers Mason Posa and Cooper Catalano, who broke out during the second half of the season as true freshmen and are now full-time starters.
But another crucial piece to the puzzle is returning outside linebacker Sebastian Cheeks, who was a starter in 2025 and is now returning in an even bigger role with Mason Reiger and Darryl Peterson gone in 2026.
Cheeks had his best campaign yet in 2025, recording 25 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 3.0 sacks. He was also second on the team in pressures (27), while posting a very respectable 14.4 percent pass rush win rate, according to PFF.
Now, as he rises up another year into his redshirt senior season, Cheeks is set to lead the outside linebacker room. Ahead of the year, head coach Luke Fickell has seen some real growth from the fifth-year senior.

"It's one of a kind," said the late model driver from Hickson, N.D. "I've got my own line I can run. It always seems to be there. It doesn't matter what the track conditions are, it's always racy. That place is always good. You're never going to catch me (complaining) about Grand Forks."
That's especially the case this summer.
Peterson has raced nine features at The Bullring this year — six with his late model and three in his modified.

Former Vikings running back Adrian Peterson spoke to Kyle Odegard of Rotogrinders recently about a plethora of topics related to the team's quarterback battle. One of them was the idea of Kyler Murray getting a fresh start with Minnesota and what it could do for him.
He said, "A lot of people give Kyler Murray a hard time for not being able to perform at a high level all the time and consistently, but he just needed a fresh start, something new to revive him. A different outlook on things and give them a boost they needed. When they picked him up, I thought this was an opportunity to change his mindset and say, 'You know what? I've been blessed to go to an incredible team that's very talented offensively and defensively, and now I can be that piece.' I feel like if he comes in with that mindset, he can be the one that gets us over the hump."
We have seen quarterbacks get fresh starts with Minnesota before, and the results spoke for themselves. The team has to be rooting for another Sam Darnold-ish type of season, with something more than a Wild Card game being the final game they play.

Former start running back Adrian Peterson, who was drafted seventh overall in 2007 and had a 15-year career that will likely put him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, believes Love can be as good as he was as a rookie.
Peterson was Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2007, rushing for 1,341 yards and 12 touchdowns on 238 carries, and with 19 receptions for 268 yards and a score, he had a total of 1,609 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns.

If Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer had one goal ahead of this year's trade deadline, it was to add the type of starting pitcher that a team in win-now mode needs and deserves. And on the eve of the trade deadline, we can now say that he has done just that. The Chicago Cubs landed one of the best rentals on the market Sunday, acquiring right-hander Kevin Gausman from the Toronto Blue Jays for prospects Brett Bateman and Ty Southisene.
Gausman, 35, checks a lot of boxes for the Cubs, who have also acquired pitchers David Peterson and Aaron Civale in recent weeks. Not only is Gausman the type of frontline starting pitcher that Chicago's rotation has been missing, but what's more, for a team looking to go deep into October, he has the postseason pedigree that is sought after by every contender.
Chicago's newly acquired right-hander is 5-10 with a 4.38 ERA in 23 starts this season, but his 3.51 FIP would suggest that he has been a bit unlucky thus far in 2026. In his postseason career, Gausman has a 3.83 ERA with 56 strikeouts across 56 ⅓ innings.
There might not be a team in baseball that has been hit as hard by injury as the Chicago Cubs this year. And most of that has come in their starting rotation. After right-hander Cade Horton was lost to season-ending elbow surgery, left-hander Justin Steele hit a setback in his rehab and has yet to pitch this season. Right-handers Ben Brown and Edward Cabrera are also currently on the 15-day IL.
Nonetheless, the Cubs have shown they aren't messing around in their quest to make noise the rest of this season as they try to get back to the playoffs. They designated right-hander Jameson Taillon for ****** ignment on Monday after his struggles continued. He has since been traded to the Blue Jays for a player to be named later or cash.

CHICAGO — As the wind swirled and the flags flapped at Wrigley Field, Spencer Jones drilled a ball that could not be swayed by the breeze on Friday.
With a 108.7 mph, 418 foot rocket to right center, the left-handed hitter cleared the ivy with ease for the fourth home run of his young career. The solo shot, hit off Chicago Cubs southpaw Shota Imanaga, who has neutral splits, was also Jones' first longball against a left-handed pitcher.
"It was awesome to get a pitch to handle, and then obviously the result was cool," Jones, who hasn't gotten too many opportunities against lefties, said after the New York Yankees' 2-0 win. "I feel like there's been pick-your-spots and limited opportunities [vs. lefties], but just like any other pitcher, you gotta go up there and do what you do. I felt comfortable in the box today."
The rookie outfielder must have felt cozy at the plate in Saturday's 5-2 loss as well, because he hit his second homer off a lefty in as many days in the seventh inning. This time, Jones made the Cubs' David Peterson the victim of an opposite field, bases-empty blast that cut through the twisting Chicago air at 106 mph.
Jones has actually looked comfortable most days since his second major league call-up on June 5.

The New York Mets are going to sell at the 2026 MLB trade deadline. They've already begun this sell-off, shipping David Peterson to the Chicago Cubs and A.J. Minter to the Minnesota Twins.
Brooks Raley, Freddy Peralta, and Clay Holmes are sure to follow. But, when it comes to Luke Weaver, there is one big difference: control. All those other players are free agents at season's end. Weaver is under contract for 2027.
However, ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel revealed the updated odds for Weaver to be traded. Those odds are unexpectedly high, sitting at 70% chance for Weaver to be traded by the Mets this summer.
"18. Luke Weaver, RHP, New York Mets. Chance of being traded: 70%," Passan and McDaniel projected. "... He's exactly what teams are seeking this time of year."
