Kalib Perry is officially cleared to play for Louisville football (for now) and will be able to play in Saturday's game against No. 16 SMU.
On Monday, Sept. 14, a Jefferson County judge granted the linebacker's motion to join a lawsuit that granted several other athletes a temporary restraining order on the NCAA's stay request in the Wisne v. NCAA case. The stay request deemed those who entered college in 2022 ineligible of receiving a fifth year under the NCAA's new 5-for-5 ruling. Cardinals cornerback Jabari Mack is also part of the TRO and had two tackles and two pass breakups in the season opener.
Perry missed the first two games but is listed on the Cards' 2026 roster. He and Mack announced plans to come back to Louisville under the new 5-for-5 rule Aug. 15. They were active participants during the latter stages of fall camp until the NCAA's stay request was granted Aug. 21. Mack wasn't affected, having been part of the initial TRO, while Perry was deemed ineligible.
"Pretty much every day, we just call over compliance," Louisville head football coach Jeff Brohm said Aug. 21. "They tell us what we can do and not do, and we roll with it. … If your guys are here, you'd like them to be able to practice and play. So we're hopeful that can happen."
Perry was granted a motion to join the local lawsuit and apply the TRO to his eligibility on Sept. 3 but the NCAA filed an emergency appeal, which was denied, and a regular appeal after. In response to Perry's motion, the NCAA stated Thursday that Perry's inclusion "raises complex legal and factual issues that are not part of the primary dispute before the Court." It cited the football player having entered the NFL draft, though he went undrafted, and participated in NFL minicamps with the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee ******* ans. On Aug. 27, the ACC released a statement that banned players that "previously declared for an NFL, NBA or WNBA Draft, and did not appropriately withdraw consistent with NCAA requirements to retain eligibility."

First-inning runs alone won't get you over the line most of the time. Stopping at a pair of early solo shots—at least until the ninth inning—the Dodgers' offense left a lot to be desired in a 4-3 loss to the Marlins, as Tyler Glasnow went through plenty of issues in his shortest regular start of the season (4+ IP). The hard-throwing right-hander walked four and seldom looked in rhythm.
Beginning with a bang, the Dodgers made a statement against Tyler Phillips in the first, taking a 2-0 lead with back-to-back long ****** from Mookie Betts and Max Muncy—the one from Betts had special value, given it represented the 10,000th home run in Los Angeles Dodgers history. The problem is that this so-called statement was left at that, with the offense failing to record another hit in Phillips' three-plus innings of work, pitching with a short leash.
By the time Phillips was removed from the game in the fourth, the Marlins had already taken the lead courtesy of a three-run second against Glasnow. Josue De Paula came back from down in the count to earn a walk against Phillips in the fourth, enough for the Marlins to make the call to the bullpen and bring in left-hander Cade Gibson to retire Hunter Feduccia.
The Dodgers trailed at this early point because Tyler Glasnow seemed to be swimming against the tide for the better part of this one, meshing small periods of dominance with worrisome rallies. After squeezing his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the first, Glasnow coughed up three runs in the second. The damage started with a two-run shot from Graham Pauley and later on with three straight singles, the last one an RBI knock from Otto Lopez.
It then looked like Glasnow would figure things out with clean innings in the third and fourth, including striking out the side in the latter, but that calmness was short-lived. Walking the first two batters of the fifth, Glasnow was removed, recording just 12 outs and leaving quite a mess for Jack Dreyer, who did himself no favors by loading the bases with an 0-2 HBP. In what felt like a pivotal inning for the Dodgers to remain in this game, they caught all the breaks—an errant throw from Mookie Betts on a routine grounder was snagged by Alex Freeland, preventing multiple runners from scoring, and in the following at-bat, Kyle Tucker flashed the leather with a smooth sliding grab to keep everyone at their stations. With one out, Dreyer induced a timely double play as Agustin Ramírez absolutely smoked a groundball right at Betts. And just like that, the score was at a still manageable 4-2 deficit.

Freiburg were firmly in control at the break against Borussia Mönchengladbach after first-half goals from Yannik Engelhardt and Igor Matanovic.
Matanovic caused Gladbach problems almost immediately, dispossessing Ko Itakura, before having an opportunity to release Yuito Suzuki inside the opening minutes, only to struggle to get the ball out of his feet.
The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 23rd minute, when Derry Scherhant's corner found Engelhardt, whose looping header caught Moritz Nicolas in no man's land and dropped into the net.

Taylor Fritz was unable to explain how he let a two-set lead slip against Francisco Cerundolo as he became one of six top-10 seeds to be eliminated from the men's draw in the first week of the US Open.
The American ninth seed was in complete control and went an early break up in the third set, only for Argentina's Cerundolo to produce a shock 3-6 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4 win to reach the fourth round.
Less than an hour later, fifth seed Flavio Cobolli of Italy fell to a 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 0-6 3-6 defeat by Belgium's Alexander Blockx, opening up the men's draw even further.
"I don't even know what to say," Fritz said. "I don't really want to talk to anybody, see anybody.

A hamstring injury cost Makai Lemon valuable training camp reps, but the Philadelphia Eagles weren't about to let their first-round pick spend the summer standing still. This is fascinating. According to reporting from Ed Kracz of Eagles On SI and Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Philadelphia's coaching staff developed several behind-the-scenes methods to keep Lemon involved. At the same time, he recovered from the injury that sidelined him for much of training camp.
The goal was simple: make sure the rookie receiver didn't fall so far behind that his development stalled before the regular season even began.
The Eagles have consistently spoken about Lemon's work ethic and desire to improve, and the reports from Kracz and Zangaro offer a glimpse into how the organization worked to maximize his learning opportunities even when he couldn't fully participate on the field.
Zangaro reported that wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead described the process as a collaborative effort involving coaches, players, and support staff throughout the organization. Since Lemon was unable to practice, the Eagles looked for creative ways to keep him engaged. Last week, Denver Broncos head coach went scorched earth on FS1's Geoff Schwartz for his Bo Nix take on First Things First. After a few days of reflection, Payton addressed the situation once and for all after the Broncos' final preseason game, a win over the Minnesota Vikings on Friday night.
"That was crazy, wasn't it?" Payton said of the viral exchange. "I can't help myself, though. When I see something like that, I'm sorry. It's just, I have a pause and then it's like, 'What are you watching?' Just watch the tape."
Payton defended Nix once again, something he has found himself doing often since first drafting Nix in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. "Everything was the opposite of what he was saying and the worst part was he played at Oregon," Payton said of Schwartz.
Payton compared Schwartz's take with the first time he ever saw former Vikings stars Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson: It's completely different to see a player in-person than it is to watch a player on tape from the comfort of your home. Earlier this week on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," notable Fox Sports personality Colin Cowherd predicted Detroit to rebound from a 9-8 season last year and crowned the Lions as his 2026 NFC North division winner.
"I think the Lions have a combination of the best roster in division and the easiest schedule in the entire league this year. They upgraded offensive coordinator. That matters. The Brooklyn Nets are about one month away from their training camp that will prepare them for a 2026-27 season that they hope will be better to watch than the previous campaign. ATLANTA – Roger Goodell confirmed that he recently met with select lawmakers in Illinois to help in efforts for the Chicago Bears to finalize plans to build a new stadium.
Yet the NFL Commissioner offered no clues about whether those meetings indicated that the Bears – who have a standing offer to move to a site in Hammond, Indiana – are any closer to closing the door on the chance of building in Arlington Heights, Illinois, where the team also owns land.
Of course, this decision was expected to be finalized weeks ago, but an Illinois bill that could incentivize the Bears to move to Arlington Heights has yet to make it to the floor for a vote that could determine the team's course of action.

Silver & Black Hospitality, the stadium's culinary and hospitality provider, unveiled a collection of new concessions, opponent-themed dishes, specialty ***** tails, desserts and premium offerings Tuesday. The additions follow Allegiant Stadium's second-place finishes in nationwide voting for both the AFC's Best NFL Stadium and Best NFL Stadium Food in the 2026 USA TODAY 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards.

The Barcelona midfielder was forced off in the 44th minute after going down following a collision with Marc Aguado.
Gavi immediately signalled that he could not continue, and the concern was obvious from his reaction as he sat on the grass, removed his shin guards and repeatedly held the affected area.
Notably, the discomfort came in the same right knee in which Gavi suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in November 2023, along with damage to the lateral meniscus.
That history means Gavi's injury will be watched closely until Barcelona receive the results of his medical tests.

Fans were left dazed and confused by a controversial call during Game 2 between the Orioles and Yankees in Baltimore, which ruled Pete Alonso's potential go-ahead home run a foul ball, even after an on-field review. Alonso crushed the ball into the left-field stands, and it clearly appeared to be to the right of the foul pole and should have been called fair.

After a one-year absence, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will return to Pocono Raceway in 2027.
The 2.5-mile triangular track in Long Pond announced its dates for next season Tuesday afternoon. It again will host a tripleheader weekend June 11-13 featuring all three NASCAR national series.
On Friday, June 11, the Truck Series is back to kick off the weekend. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race is Saturday, June 12, with the Cup Series capping the weekend Sunday, June 13, with the Great American Getaway 400 presented by VISIT PA.
"Our renewals end Aug. 31, so we want to give our fans these two weeks to make a decision," Pocono Raceway president Ben May said. "We're pleased with the dates. It's the same weekend as we had last year. The Truck Series is back this year after a year off, as expected. We've sold out our infield the past six years, sold out our grandstands the past four years, so we're looking to plug and play and repeat."
Because of the World Cup soccer tournament, the Truck Series didn't race at Pocono this year and the ARCA Series took its place. But the trucks will be back for a 17th time in 2027. MillerTech Battery, which sponsored this year's O'Reilly Series race, will go back to sponsoring the 200-mile truck race at Pocono next year.
