The Atlanta Braves made the ultra-aggressive move to promote their star infield prospect Tate Southisene to Double-A at the age of 19 after just 104 professional games, but his run with the Clingstones is going to have an unfortunate interruption. In the second inning of his debut on Tuesday night Southisene was hit in the wrist by an errant sinker up-and-in, and while he initially remained in the game to run the bases he was pulled in between innings. The Columbus Clingstones announced that the Braves 2025 first round pick, who received a $2,622,500 signing bonus last summer, would be placed on the injured list, halting his meteoric rise through Atlanta's ranks.
Southisene has been nothing short of phenomenal in his first full season of professional baseball, with a 139 wRC+ split across Single-A Augusta and High-A Rome. He spent most of the season in Single-A, where he hit .297/.429/.500 with eight home runs and 36 stolen bases in 51 games, before what was seen as an aggressive call up to High-A in early June. Southisene took about a series to adjust to High-A pitching before going on a rampage and hitting .272/.393/.456 over his final 30 games in High-A. The NFL Players ******* ociation has investigated the circumstances surrounding the recent ACL tear suffered by Panthers linebacker Nic Scourton. And the NFLPA has concluded that the Panthers did nothing wrong.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFLPA has reviewed the video of the injury. It confirmed the preliminary conclusion that it was simply an unfortunate injury.
The issue became a proper subject of curiosity given the negotiated limits of the five-day acclimation period. Among other things, it mandates no contact during practice.

Although training camp is back and the New Orleans Saints are finally on the field again, the business side of football always tends to creep in. While most were worried about rookie Jordyn Tyson's availability for drills, which turned out to be full participation, maybe some attention should have been put on Chris Olave's contract.
Yesterday, in Saints General manager Mickey Loomis' press conference with Saints media, he spoke on the contract talks and had nothing negative to say. Olave was good to go for training camp, and his presence was never in question, but on the first day, he did sit out team drills due to the contract situation.
Contract situations like these can often cause issues, but this one may be different. While other players around the NFL are fully sitting out, Olave just chose not to participate in team drills. The western rival of Union Pacific said that the carrier's latest regulatory filing doesn't change the fact that the merger with Norfolk Southern will raise rates for shippers, and prices for consumers.
"We are continuing to review the additional information submitted at the request of the Surface Transportation Board in regard to the proposed UP-NS merger," said BNSF (NYSE: BRK-B) President and Chief Executive Katie Farmer, in a statement Tuesday. "Despite UP (NYSE: UNP) and NS's (NYSE: NSC) fourth attempt to submit a complete application, the bottom line remains the same. UP and NS have not changed the core of their proposal that fails to demonstrate how combining two major railroads into a single carrier would preserve – much less enhance – competition as required by the STB's merger rules.'
The merging railroads on Monday completed the supplemental filing requested by the STB when it conditionally accepted the second merger application in late May.
"UP and NS highlight several so-called new aspects of their application, but they are more of the same – processes with multiple caveats that are difficult to understand, available to very few customers and only available for very short periods of time," Farmer said. "They do nothing meaningful to mitigate the massive anticompetitive impact of 50% market share held by one company."
The combined UP-NS would claim around 37% of North American rail traffic, according to data from Railfax. The partners' just-announced operating agreement with Canadian National (NYSE: CNI) would add another 13% share to the total.

Tom Brady has reportedly been in talks with WWE following a couple of viral confrontations with wrestler/influencer Logan Paul. The interactions have come with mixed receptions, with some finding it entertaining and others seeing it as cringe-worthy.

A pair of hulking figures unfamiliar to him were in his bedroom with a pair of handcuffs. Kropschot tried to fight back, but he was overmatched, cuffed, and dragged out of his house. Kropschot tried to spit on the men, but his shirt was pulled over his head; his own clothing used as a defense mechanism against him.
"Two humongous Samoan dudes show up in my room and they take me out of the house, handcuffed me, because I tried to fight them," Kropschot recently told MMA Junkie.
It wasn't a real abduction in the legal sense. It was a coordinated one, for a kid with anger issues and a real knack for misbehaving and getting into street fights. His parents had orchestrated it.

Police are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman after their bodies were found in Renfrewshire.
The man, who was 43, and the 36-year-old woman were discovered in the Houston area on Monday morning.
Officers said their deaths were being treated as "unexplained" and post-mortem examinations would be carried out.

The Chicago Bears opened training camp today, and with everyone reporting to Halas Hall, they made two more roster moves by placing defensive end Montez Sweat on the Active/Non-Football Illness list and safety Elijah Hicks on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.
Sweat joins linebacker T.J. Edwards on the NFI list, and much like T.J., Sweat's stay isn't expected to be long. Earlier today, general manager Ryan Poles said Edwards injured his calf during offseason training and is expected back soon, calling it "nothing major." Sweat's illness is expected to keep him away for a few days.

There is really nothing like the trade deadline in MLB. Yes, other leagues have an in-season deadline, and it can be a season defining moment for those leagues as well, but in Major League Baseball the ripple effect of a deadline deal could last for a decade or more. Teams at the deadline are basically debating between their ability to win a championship in the next two years vs. five years down the road.
Those are the stakes for every trade involving an All-Star level talent. But this year has at least the possibility of a trade that would hit the league like a tornado. The Detroit Tigers are currently 50-57, six games back in the A.L. Central and four games out of the Wild Card. Far from insurmountable, but with the amount of teams in their way it would be a heavy lift. It's been a letdown season for the Tigers who had World Series aspirations. Now they are faced with an organization defining decision. Should they trade arguably the best pitcher in baseball?
Tarik Skubal is a two-time Cy Young winner who is still four months away from turning 30-years old. He could, if healthy, be in his prime for at least another five seasons. Young players matter to fans in a way they don't to the club itself. For fans, every 17-year-old who dribbles a 3rd-tier defender in preseason becomes a future star. That's not just luxurious thinking. We need that fantasy—the academy contains untold riches—because it reinforces two narratives that sustain us, especially through the lean years. First, we get to believe that we know ball and can identify buried talent because that allows us to think of ourselves as knowledgeable, superior, and in control of something over which we actually exert no control. Second, we get to think that Fiorentina is doing something better than other clubs, allowing us to enjoy vicarious success and prove to ourselves that there's a reason to support an organization that constantly falls short.

All or nothing. Nothing else matters. Super Bowl or bust. Bold statements like these are as expected from pro athletes as they are cliché. It's a mindset NFL fans demand to hear from their favorite players and it's a mindset that some fans even take on themselves. Some fans might say it out loud so many times they actually believe it.
When Dak Prescott recently said the Dallas Cowboys had Super Bowl expectations, no one batted an eye. Throughout his career, Prescott has led some of the best offenses in the NFL. 2026 is shaping up to be more of the same with Prescott operating at the top of his game and his **** nal of weapons having never looked better.
Yet the Cowboys defense provides some unavoidable cause for concern. They are coming off a season where they were at or near the bottom of the NFL in almost all major categories and they enter 2026 with more than a few major questions left to answer. But coming off a 7-9-1 campaign and having missed the postseason for two consecutive years, how realistic are Super Bowl expectations in 2026?

It's possible Prescott actually believes this but it's far more likely he's saying what he feels he's supposed to say. The regional administrative authority in Madrid has withdrawn Spanish top-flight club Rayo Vallecano's right to use the Vallecas stadium in order to begin urgent renovation work. This comes just under two weeks before the start of the season, even though the inadequate conditions have long been known.
"There is no way to guarantee that nothing can happen," explained the Regional Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Mariano de Paco.
The immediate consequence is that Rayo will not be able to start the season in its own stadium. The authority gives no exact details, but ***** umes that the renovation work will take "months" and plans to begin "as early as tomorrow."
The regional government is making this decision to "ensure people's safety" and says the work will address possible problems related to fire safety or sanitation. "We will act with the utmost urgency and try to make it happen in the shortest possible time," the minister announced.
Rayo Vallecano uses the municipal stadium under a right-of-use agreement; it is not owned by this year's Conference League finalist.
