Prime Video and Rogers Communications announced a 12-year sublicensing agreement on Tuesday that will see the streamer become the new home of Wednesday night regular-season national NHL games in Canada.
Per the announcement, Prime Video will exclusively broadcast Wednesday night national NHL games in English and French, starting with the 2026-2027 season. The deal includes at least 26 national regular-season NHL games, beginning on Wednesday, September 30.
Amazon's streaming arm will also have exclusive rights to select Stanley Cup Playoff series in Canada, including two First Round playoff series and one Second Round series each season.
Rogers, which operates Sportsnet, has an $11 billion media rights deal with the NHL through the 2037-38 season.
"Our partnership with Prime Video builds on the strong foundation we have established together and reinforces NHL hockey as the most valuable sports content in Canada," said Tony Staffieri, President and CEO, Rogers, in a statement. "As Canada's home of hockey, Rogers is committed to connecting more fans to more NHL hockey and delivering more national games with fewer blackouts on Sportsnet, Canada's #1 sports media brand."

Trying to describe what happened when the St. Louis Cardinals played a baseball game against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night is like trying to explain what it looked like when you see a dumpster on fire. It wasn't pretty, but it happened so let's begin.
The Chicago Cubs made St. Louis Cardinals starter Michael McGreevy look like a batting practice pitcher. It started out promising enough (for the first out, anyway) when Pete Crow-Armstrong struck out gloriously. From there, it was downhill at blazing speed. I'll keep this as brief as possible. Suzuki singled. Two batters later, Bregman hit a ground rule double then Ian Happ hit a double which made it 2-0 Cubs before most of the Busch Stadium crowd had even taken their seat.
The top of the 2nd inning was worse. So much worse. Conforto singled. Kelly walked. Two batters later, PCA hit a sacrifice fly then Suzuki doubled, Busch singled, Bregman singled, Happ walked, then Nico ******* ner singled to right. By the time the carnage was over, it was 7-0 Cubs. Even the all-you-can-eat Busch Stadium food deal isn't enough to redeem this type of experience. Michael McGreevy didn't even finish the 2nd inning. That was Gordon Graceffo's job and, to his credit, he kept the Cubs from piling on any more runs until he was replaced by Justin Bruihl in the top of the 5th inning.
The Cardinals would manage to scrounge around for a run in the bottom of the 4th inning when they loaded the bases with an Alec Burleson walk, a Nootbaar infield single, a Masyn Winn single and a Nathan Church sacrifice fly with the bases loaded slightly reducing the humiliation making it 7-1 Cubs.
The Cubs were determined to squash whatever faint hopes the Cardinals might have managed with that menial 1-run bottom of the 4th by grabbing another run in the top of the 5th inning when Nico ******* ner walked then stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch by Justin Bruihl and then scored on an infield single from Ramirez restoring the 7-run lead making it 8-1 Chicago. The Cubs added another run in the top of the 8th to make it 9-1 and another in the top of the 9th to make it 10-1, but who really cares? Oh, the Cardinals did add a run in the bottom of the 9th inning when Masyn Winn doubled in Lars Nootbaar who had walked to make the final score 10-2, but we still don't care.

Instead, the selloff was driven by the company's own admission that changes in insurance coverage could impact demand.
US da Vinci procedure growth slowed to roughly 12% in the second quarter, down from where Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISRG) expected to be at the beginning of the year, with a focus on surgeries that patients may defer. On the July 16 call, CEO David Rosa told ******* ysts that customer conversations indicated that fluctuating patient coverage and premium dynamics affect "when patients seek care," as opposed to if they seek it at all.
That reaction came at an awkward time, as a highly public disagreement was already taking place in the sector. TORONTO (AP) — Amazon's Prime Video will exclusively broadcast Wednesday night national NHL regular-season games in Canada in English and French beginning next season as part of a new 12-year licensing agreement with Rogers Communications Inc. announced Tuesday.
The streaming service will also carry select Stanley Cup playoff series, including two first-round series and one second-round matchup annually.
The agreement spans the length of Rogers' $11 billion, 12-year deal with the NHL for national media rights on all platforms in Canada through the 2037-38 season. Terms were not disclosed.
"We're thrilled to expand our partnership with the NHL and Rogers in this landmark agreement, which brings even more premium live sports to Prime members in Canada," said Jay Marine, head of global sports at Prime Video.
Prime Video's lineup will include at least 26 national regular-season games, starting Sept. 30, and will be available to Prime subscribers in Canada at no additional cost; Rogers-owned Sportsnet retains the majority of national NHL games. A Rogers spokesperson said the playoff allocation will follow a draft format: Prime Video will receive the fourth and fifth selections among the eight first-round series and the third choice among the four second-round matchups.

The Philadelphia Eagles are back together, and preparations for the 2026 season have officially begun.
Players reported to the Jefferson Health Training Complex on Tuesday for the opening of training camp. The Eagles' social media team released photos and a video offering fans their first look at the team's arrival. Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith were among the offensive stars shown entering the facility. Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata, Tank Bigsby, Will Shipley and Andy Dalton were also included in the team's arrival gallery.
The defensive group featured Jalen Carter, Cooper DeJean, Nolan Smith, Marcus Epps, Moro Ojomo and offseason addition Riq Woolen. Carter reported on the same day Philadelphia announced his four-year extension through the 2031 season, providing another significant development as camp opened.
The arrivals also offered an early glimpse at newcomers preparing for their first training camp with Philadelphia, and were buoyed by Jalen Carter's historic contract extension. Reporting day marks the transition from offseason projection to on-field evaluation. The Detroit Lions open their 2026 training camp on Wednesday, and on Tuesday, their veterans reported to the team's Allen Park training facility. As players rejoin the team, it's common for the team to make a few last-minute transactions in preparation for camp. Earlier in the week, we saw the Lions place three players on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, and on Tuesday, they placed Christian Mahogany on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list, Christian Izien on the Non-Football Illness (NFI) list, and released veteran nose tackle Jay Tufele.
If you're not familiar with the difference between the lists, which list a player lands on is based on where they were injured and the type of injury. If a player was hurt while participating in an activity directly related to the NFL (games, practices, workouts, etc.), they land on the PUP list. If a player was injured in a non-NFL activity (which can include private workouts or in their personal life), they land on the NFI (injury) list. If a player is dealing with an illness (which can range from having the flu or Mononucleosis—like Mahogany had as a rookie—or even more serious illnesses), they land in the NFI (illness) category.
These lists also have some similarities as well. Like with the PUP list, placing a player on either NFI list at this stage does not require them to miss any games. They are restricted from practicing while on the injury lists, but players are also eligible to be removed from any of these lists at any time if a team believes a player is healthy enough to begin practicing. However, if a player remains on any of the lists through roster cutdowns, they will be forced to miss the first four games of the regular season.
Mahogany returns to Detroit this season expecting to work to retain his starting left guard job, so any absence will certainly hinder his ability to compete for that role. While he is out, look for either veteran Ben Bartch, second-year lineman Miles Frazier, or recently traded-for Juice Scruggs to try to seize the opportunity in front of them.
Izien joined the Lions this offseason and was working with the starting safeties in the spring as he was trying to acclimate to the Lions' scheme quickly, as he was also expected to compete for a starting role with Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph on the PUP list. While Izien misses time, Thomas Harper and Avonte Maddox, along with veteran Chuck Clark, should have great opportunities to get into the starting rotation at practice.

FanDuel currently has Florida State's over/under set at 5.5 (betting $10 for over would earn you $6.58, under would be $12.40), having dropped from 6.5 in March. For perspective, last season's over-under was 7.5.
In ESPN's preseason FPI rankings, the Seminoles were placed at No. 28, ranking their strength of schedule at No. 22. FPI projects FSU's record as 6.7-5.4, giving it a 71% chance at finishing over 6 wins, a 3.2% chance to win the ACC and a 9.2% chance to make the playoffs.

CHICAGO – When the House settlement took effect last year, schools could directly share revenue with athletes with a cap in place. That limit doesn't include third-party NIL deals, though, and roster costs continue to increase in college football.
Speaking Tuesday at Big Ten Media Days, USC coach Lincoln Riley spoke in favor of a "true salary cap" in college sports. While he said the landscape is beginning to stabilize a bit, that would make things even better.

Riley noted the discussions around the state of college sports as the NIL era continues to evolve. He doesn't see the craziness being as much of an issue as others on the outside, though. Instead, he argued things are getting better, though he said a salary cap would further help.
"I've always been one, like, I don't want to have less than somebody has," Riley told reporters at the Hilton Chicago. "But I don't necessarily have to have more. I just don't want to be at some massive, massive disadvantage, if you're trying to win a championship. I will say this, despite the perception outside, it has normalized a lot in the last few years.

The Ravens infamously backed out of their trade for Maxx Crosby due to concerns about a degenerative issue in the edge rusher's knee.
Crosby, who underwent surgery to repair his torn meniscus in January, did not participate much during Las Vegas' offseason.
But after saying he felt he was "almost there" during minicamp, he is all set to practice as the Raiders begin training camp.
"He's going to get all the reps tomorrow with the ones," head coach Klint Kubiak said in his Tuesday press conference. "He's ready to go. He's ready to practice.

NFL rosters constantly evolve as general managers juggle injuries, try to improve position groups and add depth.
Teams enter training camp with a maximum of 90 players, who try to prove they belong on the 53-man active roster for the regular season.
But there are other roster designations that fill the NFL's transactions wire daily. What do they all mean?
Players are put on the reserve/injured list — commonly referred to as IR — when they have a football-related injury and need to miss at least a few weeks. Players on IR don't count against the active roster, but their salaries count against the cap.
If a player is placed on this list before the regular season begins, he could miss the entire season unless they are designated to return during the roster cutdown to 53 players after training camp. Teams can designate up to two such players to return.

As announced by the program, Alabama baseball's Bryce Fowler and Hagan Banks have signed with the Minnesota Twins.
A pair of redshirt seniors on Alabama's CWS team this past spring, both of Fowler and Banks were not selected in the 2026 MLB draft, and will now begin their professional career's in the minor leagues of Minnesota's organization.
Fowler joined the Crimson Tide prior to the 2025 season from Pearl River Community College, and went on to start during both seasons in Tuscaloosa as one of Alabama's top defensive players. Across his 121 games played, Fowler slashed a combined .294/.397/.442 with 13 home runs, 83 RBI, and 27 stolen bases, while also leading the Crimson Tide with a .320 batting average this past spring.
Banks spent all five seasons of his collegiate career in Tuscaloosa from 2022-26, emerging as Alabama's closer this past spring. The right-hander made 63 career appearances for Alabama over that span with seven starts, posting a combined 3-4 record with a 3.59 ERA, a 105:33 K:BB ratio, and six saves across 95.1 innings pitched.
Other former Alabama players currently in the Twins' organization include pitchers Connor Prielipp, Riley Quick, Hunter Hoopes, and Jonathan Stevens.

An estimated 21.5 million additional adults in the United States may now be eligible for statins under updated cholesterol treatment guidelines, according to a new study.
The researchers aimed to estimate how many adults in the US would be considered eligible for statin therapy under the new 2026 blood cholesterol guidelines issued by the American Heart **** ociation, the American College of Cardiology and nine partnering medical societies, compared with the previous 2018 guidelines.
The **** ysis, published July 20 in the journal JAMA, found that the changes could bring the total number of Americans eligible for statins, medications that lower cholesterol, to about 87.5 million people, or more than half of adults ages 30 to 79.
What prompted this major expansion, and does being eligible mean that someone should immediately begin taking medication? The Detroit Tigers made a significant roster change Tuesday, activating Javier Báez from the injured list and designating catcher Jake Rogers for ******* ignment.
Báez will immediately return to the lineup and start in center field, according to MLB.com's Jason Beck.
The move brings Báez back after a lengthy absence and ends Rogers' run on Detroit's active roster, at least for now.

Construction of a city's new film studio could start in the autumn.
The final details of Studio One at Crown Works in Sunderland have been set out in a planning application submitted to the city's planning authority.
The facility, on the banks of the Wear, will have three sound stages, production accommodation, backlot ***** e and a car park. The WH Foster Printworks building will also be refurbished as part of the plans.
Officials behind the scheme said the site had already been prepared and building work was expected to begin in the autumn if planning permission was secured.
Sunderland City Council leader Councillor Chris Eynon said it was an "exciting step forward".

The Dallas Cowboys held their annual press conference to start training camp on Tuesday, and the idea of the offseason being free of drama came up a lot at the beginning.

LSU is coming in hot for the 2026 college football season, with new head coach Lane Kiffin also beginning the season with a ton of hype. He comes with an extensive resume, as shown by his winning record at Ole Miss, as he has turned the program around. The question is, are they worth the hype?
During an episode of the Bussin' With The Boys podcast, Josh Pate discussed LSU and admitted that they are certainly a strong contender to win that national **** le. However, he also pointed out that there may still be a few concerns that remain to be addressed.
"They could be a nasty team. So, the only team worse than Alabama at rushing the ball in the SEC last year was LSU" he said. "But LSU went out and took proactive measures to fix that. As for the major concerns, Pate noted that LSU has a very portal-heavy team. This could lead to some chemistry issues, as well as questions about how the team might perform in the long run.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Virginia university missed opportunities to learn of a student's terrorism-related conviction before the man opened fire in an ROTC class in March, injuring two students and killing an Army veteran who fought back with "extraordinary heroism," an investigative report released Tuesday found.
The federal probation officer working with Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, who spent eight years in prison for attempting to aid the Islamic State, did not share Jalloh's criminal background with Old Dominion University, despite the serious nature of the offense, according to the report, which was produced by the law firm Cooley on behalf of the university.
Jalloh, who also died in the March attack, had attended the public university in Norfolk beginning in 2007, was suspended in 2010 and reenrolled after his early release from prison in December 2024. He was readmitted to the school in May last year.
No federal or state law enforcement agency reported his prior conviction either, the report said.
State law prohibits the university from inquiring about student criminal history before admission or readmission, according to the report. The university could have asked readmitted students to voluntarily disclose their criminal history but did not at the time, the report said.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are down two starting corners as training camp opened on Tuesday.
Jalen Ramsey and Joey Porter Jr. have both been added to the Physically Unable to Perform list to begin camp. Ramsey was added after suffering a knee injury during mini-camp.
Porter Jr. was a late add to the PUP list, getting added Tuesday morning after he "aggravated his back during the team's mobility workout this morning," per ESPN's Brooke Pryor.
Injuries at the start of training camp aren't cause for concern as teams tend to be more cautious with so much time still remaining before the start of the season. Steelers GM Omar Khan spoke on this aspect of adding Ramsey to the PUP list.
"We're just going to be smart about it. He's a pro. It's going to be a couple weeks. This isn't something where we anticipate him not being ready for the season."

President Trump's campaign for lower interest rates in the U.S. faces another setback this week at the meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). Wall Street ***** ysts have generally come to the conclusion that the FOMC will hold rates steady, if not hike them—and Trump's own foreign policy is an underlying factor.

The FOMC, led by central bank chairman Kevin Warsh, will meet Tuesday and Wednesday of this week to discuss progress toward its targets of maximum employment and inflation at 2%.

It is the latter task that has caused the Fed some difficulty over the past few years. At the time of writing, inflation stands at 3.5%—a drop from May to June, but still elevated compared with the start of the year and the Fed's target.
Part of that reading has come from higher fuel prices, up 15.7% from a year ago. While pressure in this category is beginning to fade (down 4.9% May to June), prices remain elevated as a result of conflict in the Middle East, choking global oil supply as a result.
There is little sign of a resolution between Washington and Tehran in sight. While the two sides are not currently engaged in active military conflict, as they have been over the past fortnight, no official ceasefire has been announced. While the fragile pause of fire allows ***** e for diplomacy to proceed, neither side has indicated they will capitulate over control of the Strait of Hormuz—the key shipping lane in the movement of oil around the planet.
Trump's foreign policy is therefore standing in the way of Warsh's path to a cut—Wall Street ***** ysts highlighted at the start of the week.
Bank of America's base case is for a hold this month, wrote chief U.S. economist Aditya Bhave and his team: "With markets now pricing nearly 10 [basis points] of hikes in July, Chair Warsh faces a difficult choice. Not hiking could challenge the Fed's credibility on inflation. But raising rates would go against his framework of looking through supply shocks.

Liverpool's planning at centre-back has taken an uncomfortable turn after Joe Gomez suffered an injury in the pre-season friendly against Sunderland, a development that further narrows Andoni Iraola's options before the new season begins.
