SOUTH BEND — Forty-two weeks since suffering the second left ACL tear of his career, Notre Dame football linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa could return this week against Rice in the home opener.
"Kyngstonn's done a great job," Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman said Thursday, Sept. 10 on his Zoom update. "He's practiced well. He'd been working to the point where he can play. An auction of the retail empire formerly owned by the Barclay family is set to be shelved after bidders failed to meet the £2bn asking price.
Very Group, the online retailer that also owns the Littlewoods brand, was bought by US private equity firm Carlyle for a nominal £1 sum last year and subsequently put up for sale.
But plans to sell the company now appear to be in jeopardy after none of the potential suitors, which included Chinese online giant JD.com, came up with offers large enough to meet Carlyle's demands, Sky News reported.
Carlyle, which had been Very's main creditor, seized control of Very in November following the collapse of the Barclay empire amid a dispute with Lloyds Banking Group about unpaid debts.
In addition to JD.com, possible bidders are said to have included investment firm Elliott, which owns Waterstones, and plus-size online retailer N Brown, which owns the Jacamo and Simply Be brands.

A federal judge on Wednesday ordered Google to retool the system powering its monopoly in digital advertising, sparing the company from a wrenching breakup sought by the U.S. government.
The initial two-page decision by U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema in Virginia marks the second time in a year that Google has received a reprieve from a Justice Department proposal to dismantle its internet empire. Meanwhile, what courts have described as the company's anti-competitive practices have enriched Google's corporate parent, Alphabet Inc., which has a market value of $4.11 trillion.
The judge's full opinion, which includes the specific remedies, will remain under seal for 14 days to allow the parties to review it and propose any necessary redactions.
"We're very pleased the Court rejected the DOJ's proposal to break apart tools that help small businesses reach new customers and grow," said Lee-Anne Mulholland, Google's vice president for regulatory affairs.
After a judge declared Google's ubiquitous search engine as an illegal monopoly in 2024, the Justice Department pushed for a penalty that would have required the company to sell its popular Chrome web browser. But it was rebuffed last September by another federal judge overseeing that case.

Jada Star, the niece of late country legend Dolly Parton, reflected on her aunt's cancer battle, sharing why the singer chose to keep her health struggles private.

Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) has steadily delivered one thing in particular to investors quarter after quarter: Mind-blowing earnings growth that's reached record levels well into the billions of dollars. This is thanks to the company's dominance in the high-growth market of artificial intelligence (AI) chips and its expansion into related products and services. In fact, Nvidia has built an AI empire, and in the latest three-month period, this translated into $96 billion in revenue and $59 billion in profit.

As crude inventories in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve drain toward their operational limits, America is left, armed with just 300 million barrels. This dwindling buffer forces the nation into a high-stakes standoff against the uncompromising laws of fluid dynamics, immense geological forces, strict federal statutes, and relentless geopolitical pressure.
The SPR is a subsurface engineering marvel. Spanning 60 massive underground salt caverns across four storage sites in Texas and Louisiana, the system holds a combined authorized capacity of 714 million barrels. These solution-mined cavities are gigantic, often 300 feet wide and 2,000 feet tall, large enough to stack the Empire State Building inside.
Because these caverns operate entirely on a liquid displacement system, they can never be left empty. If the fluids were removed without replacement, the immense geological weight of the overlying earth would cause the salt domes to collapse inward like a crushed shield. Consequently, the total volume of fluid inside the reserve must be permanently maintained at 714 million barrels. However, the actual crude oil inventory tells a sobering story. The crude oil volume currently stands at approximately 293 million barrels. The remainder is entirely heavy salt brine used to push the oil out. Operating below this 300-million-barrel threshold pushes the aging infrastructure into uncharted and hazardous territory.
According to the Department of Energy, the absolute physical minimum crude oil inventory is approximately 70 million barrels. This cushion is required at the very top of the caverns to keep the extraction pipes safely submerged in oil rather than the underlying water. But while 70 million barrels is the structural floor where the salt rock might physically hold together, the practical operational floor is much higher, around 250 million barrels.

Martha Stewart is expanding her relationship with Netflix with two familiar projects from her lifestyle empire. The move arrives months after Meghan Markle's own lifestyle chapter with the streamer changed direction. Stewart's latest deal brings both cooking and conversation to the platform.
Entertainment Weekly exclusively announced that The Martha Stewart Podcast and Martha Cooks are joining Netflix this week. Martha Cooks begins streaming Tuesday, Aug. 25. Full video episodes of Stewart's podcast arrive Wednesday, Aug. 26.
"I'm delighted to bring my podcast to Netflix," Stewart said in a statement. She also called Netflix "the perfect partner" to help the show reach a wider audience.
The Martha Stewart Podcast will continue as an audio series through iHeartPodcasts. However, Netflix will carry the full video version. The first streaming episode features Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. Future guests include author Harlan Coben and producer Benny Blanco.
Meanwhile, Martha Cooks gives Netflix another established lifestyle ******* le. The series originally launched on The Roku Channel and features Stewart cooking with chefs, friends and other guests.

Serayah McNeill, known mononymously by her first name, has announced her split from rapper and actor Joey Bada$$.
The singer, songwriter, model and Empire star was engaged to be married. The couple share a one-year-old son, Joey.
"After much thought, I have made the difficult decision to end my engagement and relationship with the father of my child," she wrote in an Instagram post.
"I loved deeply, believed wholeheartedly in the life we were building, and wanted nothing more than to protect our family. Unfortunately, I also had to face a painful truth: there had been repeated infidelity throughout our relationship, including during some of the most vulnerable and meaningful moments of my life."
Serayah concluded, "This chapter did not end the way I prayed it would," and noted that she would not share more details publicly, citing her son's privacy.
The former couple met through friends and got together in early 2022, going public with their romance during a holiday to St Lucia in January 2024.
