The Cincinnati Bengals walked away from Week 1 with a 33-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but quarterback Joe Burrow knows the exact play he wants back.
Burrow threw a third-quarter interception that rookie linebacker Josiah Trotter returned for a touchdown, cutting Cincinnati's lead to seven.
After the game, Burrow took responsibility for the mistake.
"If I didn't have that interception, I'm feeling great walking out of here," Burrow said, via CLNS Media's Mike Petraglia. "You can't make plays like that, so I got to get that fixed."
Burrow completed 25 of 35 passes for 254 yards, one touchdown and the interception in the victory.

The 2026 regular season is just a few days away from beginning for the Chicago Bears as they make their final preparations before heading to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers. It's a battle of two surprise division winners from a year ago, with each team hoping to get a jump start to the season.
For the Bears, they officially turned a corner last year during Ben Johnson's first season as head coach, becoming a dangerous team loaded on offense with talented pass catchers and a punishing rushing attack. And they were spearheaded by quarterback Caleb Williams, who broke out as the prolific playmaker he was billed as during his collegiate days to lead them to an 11-6 record atop the NFC North. The Bears advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs last year and are hoping to take another step in 2026 as contenders.
The Panthers, meanwhile, are coming off a successful season of their own under head coach Dave Canales. Carolina was able to hang around .500 all year long with some big wins against playoff contenders and eventually overtook the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win the NFC South at 8-9. Quarterback Bryce Young took steps towards showing he can be a competent NFL quarterback, in part thanks to weapons such as Tetairoa McMillan, but he's entering a critical year in 2026.
Week 1 can feel like an outlier at times considering how much things can change between now and December. Look at what happened last year with Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy. But we're sure to see some big moments on Sunday that turn the tide one way or another. Here are our bold predictions for Bears vs. Panthers.
For all of the talk of the Bears starting slow last season, they got off to hot starts early in the season. The game script was working for Ben Johnson and the offense, even when things still weren't totally clicking yet. In Weeks 1 and 2, they opened the game scoring on their first possession. Johnson has had time to game plan for the Panthers and will be ready with a systematic drive to score six early on.

Afghanistan are about to make history as they are for the first time, a team will technically host India on Indian soil, with all three matches scheduled at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Afghanistan have been playing their home international fixtures in India for several years, using venues in Lucknow, Dehradun and Greater Noida to host matches against various opponents. But they've never done it against India itself until now.
The series wraps up just ahead of the Asian Games, which kick off on September 24, giving the squad a final chance to settle combinations before heading to **** an.
India arrive with mixed white-ball form that doesn't quite match their status as reigning T20 World Cup champions. The problems began in late June with back-to-back T20I defeats to Ireland in Belfast.
England then handed India a 4-0 T20I series loss, and the ODIs followed with another setback, as India went down 2-1. The team was in Zimbabwe for another white-ball **** ignment, and they recovered some lost pride at Harare.

Why Patriots' Schedule Could Complicate A.J. Brown's Timeline For Return From Injury originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The A.J. Brown era for the Patriots hasn't gotten a good start, with the wide receiver catching just three passes in a Week 1 loss before going down with a high ankle sprain.
Brown is set to miss a minimum of four games for New England, placed on IR on Friday, per ESPN. With Brown's injury expected to sideline him for around four weeks regardless, the Patriots decided to put him on IR, officially locking in that timeline.
Based on the four-week timeline, the earliest Brown could return is in Week 6 against the Jets, a Sunday afternoon game on Oct. 18. That will primarily depend on how his ankle heals — but New England's schedule could also make his return complicated.
Here's why the Patriots' schedule could throw off Brown's return, making it even longer before the star receiver is back on the field.

The next major decision facing the Carolina Panthers' front office will be what to do with their starting quarterback Bryce Young.
Going into his fourth season in the NFL, it's not an easy call. Young has shown flashes of elite ability, but he's still producing at a well below-average level too often.
There are three paths ahead for the organization.
If Young makes his big breakthrough this season, they could give him the lucrative long-term extension that would cement him in as their franchise guy. If he bombs, then they could start looking for another starter, beginning with the loaded draft class of 2027. The Panthers could also decide to wait—if Young's performance falls somewhere in the middle, they still have him under contract for another season thanks to his fifth-year option.
As for Young, he continues to say all the right things. When asked about his contract situation going into Week 1, Young replied that it's out of his hands and he's all about football.

BOSTON — Last week, the Red Sox struggled mightily, losing two consecutive series as their starting rotation stumbled. At one point, the Sox allowed eight or more runs in five consecutive games.
Since then, they've done a nice reversal, winning their last five games in a row.
The difference? The starting pitching.
Monday marked the third time in that five-game stretch in which the starting pitcher did not allow a single run. In Baltimore, that group included Sonny Gray and Ranger Suarez.
On Monday, Brayan Bello, of all people, joined the club.

A 4-year-old filly died earlier this week after competing in a stakes race at Saratoga Race Course, after the horse was found to have suffered a fracture that left her unable to put her full weight on her left hind leg.
According to the state Gaming Commission's Equine Death and Breakdown Database, Marvelous Madison, who was trained by Jorge Abreu, was returned to her barn after finishing fifth in the Yaddo Stakes over Saratoga's Mellon turf course on Aug. 30. In the barn, Marvelous Madison became "toe touching lame in the left hind leg," meaning the filly was hesitant to put her full weight on the affected leg.
According to the Gaming Commission database, further evaluation of Marvelous Madison "revealed a displaced fracture." Because of the "poor prognosis," the database states, Marvelous Madison was euthanized.
The 4-year-old Marvelous Madison ran seven times in her career, with four of those races - including both of her career victories - coming at Saratoga. Earlier this summer at Saratoga, she won an allowance race on July 26 in her first race since August 2025.
On the state database, Marvelous Madison's injury and death were listed as "other" in the description of the incident, rather than being specifically racing- or training-related.

New-look Manchester City overcame a spirited challenge from Coventry on Saturday courtesy of an Erling Haaland goal to stay perfect in the Premier League, as blunt Tottenham were held to a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest.
Enzo Maresca is now the man in the Etihad hotseat after the emotional departure of long-serving Pep Guardiola, while there has been significant churn among the playing staff.
One of the new arrivals, Enzo Fernandez, played a major part in City's first-half goal, feeding Antoine ******* yo, who crossed for Haaland to head home his third of the season.
Table-topping City have won all three of their Premier League matches ahead of next week's Manchester derby at Old Trafford.
Former Chelsea boss Maresca said teams needed "ugly moments" as well as free-flowing football after the stodgy win, in which newly promoted Coventry squandered chances.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen admits he is "a long way" from the level that he expects. The maverick Norwegian made a dramatic return to racing at the European Championships in Birmingham, storming to 5,000m gold to banish skepticism surrounding his condition and his nerve to compete on the big stage following a 323-day absence after a debilitating Achilles injury.
Athletics is a star-driven sport and the 1,500m, among its most compelling events, alongside the women's 800m, depends on head-to-head duels when records, such as Josh Kerr's captivating tilt at the one mile mark in London, are not at stake.
The two great rivals, who were famously caught snoozing in Paris two years ago as Cole Hocker slipped up the inside of the rail to ***** gold, continue to bristle at each other's journeys away from the track.
Ingebrigtsen's command and control across 5,000m is mesmerising, but even if Kerr was merely provocative in his claim that "no one cares" about that event, the pure chaos of the 1,500m reigns and its former Nordic king knows all too well.
"I think a lot of people should be [disappointed in Kerr's absence from some championships]," Ingebrigtsen had remarked. "Because that is what championships are all about. It's not for us as athletes to choose almost where to participate. We have these championships for a reason, and that is for the best athletes to compete - that is the whole point.

The Detroit Pistons keep having trouble with the Jalen Duren contract situation, which has dragged on much longer than I initially expected once no other team could throw him a deal in restricted free agency.
ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported that the gap is still pretty clear: Detroit has been offering Duren a five-year contract around $35.0 million per season, while Duren wants an average salary above $40.0 million. Training camp opens later this month, and Duren can still take his $9.6 million qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent next summer, so this isn't something Detroit can simply wait and see what happens.
I still think Duren stays with the Pistons; there is too much sense for both sides to keep the partnership going, especially after he averaged 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.0 ******* ists on 65.0% from the field, became an All-Star and made All-NBA Third Team for a 60-22 team. But Detroit also traded Isaiah Stewart to the Grizzlies this summer, and that left them without the type of proven backup center they had last season.
That is why I would call the Dallas Mavericks about Daniel Gafford. Of course, he wouldn't replace Duren immediately, because that shouldn't be Detroit's plan, but he could give the Pistons one of the best backup centers in basketball right now, and if this Duren situation somehow becomes a sign-and-trade later, Detroit wouldn't suddenly enter the season without a starting center.
More importantly, his game fits Cade Cunningham in probably the easiest way possible: screen, roll, catch the lob, finish, protect the rim, repeat.

The NFL's roster cutdown has put a new group of players on the open market, giving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a chance to make late additions before Week 1.
Tampa Bay has already made its own difficult decisions to reach the 53-man limit, but that doesn't mean the roster is set in stone. Players who clear waivers can begin signing with practice squads, while released veterans are free to negotiate with any team. As practice squads take shape, the Bucs should keep an eye on players who could strengthen the roster or add depth.

EAST RUTHERFORD - The New York Giants believe their roster for the 2026 season is better and deeper than each of the past four years. Still, there are spots to upgrade and avenues to do so.
The NFL's mandated cut down of initial rosters to 53 players came and went Sunday at 6 p.m., so the next step in the march toward the Giants' season opener Sept. 13 in prime time at home against the Dallas Cowboys.
The evaluation is not just of the Giants' roster, which tends to be challenging enough. There is a framework general manager Joe Schoen established since his arrival in putting together his personnel and scouting departments.
The Giants aren't going to change the process; obviously, coach John Harbaugh carries tremendous influence. The targets may be fewer - and with different needs.
Players with three years of experience or fewer that were released Sunday are subject to waivers. All waiver claims must be put in and will be processed beginning at 1 p.m. Monday. The Giants have fifth priority behind the Raiders, the Jets, the Cardinals and the **** ans.

While everyone has been wondering all summer whether or not Arizona Cardinals left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. and wide receiver Michael Wilson would receive contract extensions before the start of the regular season, it turned out center Hjalte Froholdt was the first of the team's core to have that happen.
And that occurred a mere two years after his first contract with the team was restructured and extended in the summer of 2024.
That deal was set to expire following this season in which he was scheduled to receive $4.77 million in salary along with a $500,000 roster bonus that was paid in March as well as a maximum total of $255,000 in per-game active roster bonuses ($15,000 for each game) and a $100,000 offseason workout bonus. That would be total compensation of $5.625 million with nothing guaranteed in advance.
Prior to the current restructuring he signed earlier this week and that now has him under contract through 2028, the salary-cap charge was set to be $6.958 million.
It turns out the reported two-year extension being worth $20 million is accurate because the total cash value of all three years is $25.625 million. That includes $13.5 million fully guaranteed at signing and another $1.25 million that is currently guaranteed for injury only but becomes fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the 2027 league year.

We asked for your views after 10-man Motherwell lost 4-1 in Germany to bow out of Europe 7-2 on aggregate to Freiburg in the Conference League play-off.
Here's what some of you said:
Robert: It's absolutely no disgrace to lose to a team like Freiburg. The boys gave everything and to score home and away shows the team that they're capable of good things in the future. If they can start defending swinging free-kicks and corners, major bonus! All in all well done boys, let's get stuck into this league now.
James: We are a team in progress and they are making it with every game. I look forward to the future, we are a very good team and will get better. My only problem is we lack height in defence, four goals in these two games all from corners.
Frazer: Held our own against a very good Freiburg team and hoping this will put us in good stead for the season. The only frustration was five of the seven goals we conceded were from pens or set-plays.

This time last year we were facing a daunting, and gruelling trip to Kazakhstan with our Champions League aspirations very much on the line.
Having flopped at home against minnows Kairat Almaty, we made the long journey, and were ultimately made to pay as the Kazakh side beat us on spot kicks to kill off our Champions League aspirations, and confine us to the Europa League.
The only 'new' additions to Brendan Rodgers pool of players for those two games were the returning Kieran Tierney (who had signed a pre-contract months earlier) with Shin Yamada, loan signing Jahmai Simpson Pusey, and Callum Osmand the other new recruits, but were very much seen as bench players at the most.

That failure to add any real quality to our side was the biggest factor for our failure not just in Europe, but the following few months to follow. Something that resulted in Brendan Rodgers deciding enough was enough, which culminated in the Irishman handing in his notice.

Indianapolis Colts left guard Quenton Nelson has some leverage as he approaches a payday.
Pro Football Focus ranked Nelson No. 6 among the 10 highest-graded NFL players going into contract years in 2026, giving the eight-time Pro Bowler an 85.5 grade for his work last season.
"He is a beacon of quality and consistency along the offensive interior," PFF's Daire Carragher wrote.
PFF noted that Nelson's play dipped from 2021 through 2023 before he returned to elite play over the past two seasons.
He posted grades of 84.7 and 85.5 during that span and has logged 8,643 interior offensive line snaps since entering the league in 2018. Only Joel Bitonio and Joe Thuney have played more over that stretch, according to PFF.

The Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Brent Venables have agreed to a contract extension, the university announced on Thursday. OU Vice President and Director of Athletics Roger Denny announced that Venables has agreed to a new contract that spans six total years. The contract, which is pending approval from the OU Board of Regents, adds two seasons to Venables' current deal, and will run through the 2031 season.
Venables was hired as OU's 23rd full-time head coach in December of 2021. He replaced Lincoln Riley, who left to be the head coach at USC a week earlier. In his four seasons at the helm in Norman, Venables has compiled a 32-20 overall record.
In his first season in 2022, the Sooners went 6-7, but Oklahoma rebounded to a 10-3 mark in 2023, which was their final season in the Big 12 Conference. After Venables signed a contract extension ahead of the 2024 season, that year brought the program's first campaign in the Southeastern Conference, and with it, another 6-7 season.
In Year 4 in 2025, Venables posted his best season yet as a head coach. Oklahoma went 10-3 and made the College Football Playoff, losing in the first round. The Sooners won four big SEC games in the month of November that they absolutely had to have, making the CFP after going just 6-2 through the month of October.
Now, Venables is entering his fifth year as Oklahoma's head coach in 2026, and he's tied to the Sooners long-term. The new deal gives him more stability at OU, after the rocky 2024 season, when some questioned how long he'd be the head coach of the Sooners. His 2025 performance quieted many of his doubters, and now he has inked another extension. The board will meet in mid-September, with Venables' new deal on the agenda.
