VICTORIA, British Columbia (AP) — Kyle Cottam set a PGA Tour Americas record Saturday when he holed out from 108 yards for eagle on the 16th hole on his way to a 12-under 58 in the Digital Commerce Group Open.
It was the second straight year for a sub-60 round at Uplands Golf Club. A.J. Ewart shot 59 a year ago in the Victoria Open.
Cottam had six birdies in a seven-hole stretch for a 29 on the front nine, and he played the final four holes in 4 under with the eagle on the 16th He got up-and-down for par from just off the green on the 18th hole.
"I was absolutely surprised," Cottam said. "Obviously, you don't wake up in the morning and think you're going to shoot 58."
Cottam had the sixth sub-60 round on the PGA Tour Americas since 2024. There were two sub-60 rounds on the Canadian Tour, including a 58 by Jason Bohn in 2001.

Drama seems to be following Michael La Sasso wherever he goes this summer.
A few weeks after his career breakthrough win at the LIV season finale in Indianapolis where he bested Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, the 22-year-old shot a final round 5-under 67 on Friday at Golf-und Country Club Seddiner See in Michendorf, Germany.

LAS VEGAS — When the Golden Knights traded Pavel Dorofeyev to the New York Rangers back on June 26, general manager Kelly McCrimmon knew he had to find a way to replace the 37 goals Dorofeyev scored for Vegas last season.

In signing Braeden Bowman to a six-year contract extension, McCrimmon is betting that Bowman can fill some of the void.

Bowman's deal, which kicks in for the 2027-28 season and runs through 2033 has an average annual value of $3.4 million. He's scheduled to make $875,000 this coming season in the second year of his recent two-year deal.

It seems like a lot of money for someone with limited NHL experience. But the Knights like what the 6-foot-1, 205-pound 23-year-old winger gives them — a big, physical net presence with a scorer's touch. And if Bowman develops as McCrimmon hopes, that $3.4 million could look like a bargain down the road.

Bowman split time between the Golden Knights and the Henderson Silver Knights last season. His NHL numbers were eight goals and 18 ***** ists in 54 games. In the AHL, he had better than a point a game with 12 goals and 14 ***** ists in 20 games.

More important, Bowman has played under Ryan Craig, who is now the Golden Knights' head coach. Craig knows Bowman from their time together in Henderson and he'll figure out where best to play him. When Bruce Cassidy was the coach, Bowman played up and down the lineup. With John Tortorella, Bowman only got into one game, that being Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against Carolina.

"He's a great coach," Bowman told KTNV when asked about Craig while at the team's annual golf outing earlier this week at TPC Summerlin. "He's a great person, too. He's honest, fair — everything you want in a coach."

Bowman told the television station that he has spent the summer anticipating a larger role in the NHL and he wants to be ready.

"I just focused on getting bigger, stronger," Bowman said. "I want to make the jump and be a full-time guy, so get stronger, work on my speed and get my pace up."

LIV Golf officially filed for bankruptcy this week, hoping to rebuild a self-sustaining world golf tour from the ashes of Saudi Arabia's most infamous sportswashing attempt.
Ever since the Saudis pulled their billions of dollars in funding, the tour has faced an existential crisis. As its 2026 season concluded, it canceled its team championship event and ended the campaign early. LIV then laid off most of its workforce before ultimately filing for bankruptcy.
While LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil has hyped a potential new investor that could save the tour, the reality paints a far different picture.
According to the bankruptcy filing, LIV has until Oct. 13 to meet several criteria for BC Partners to make their investment official. At least half the players with outstanding claims against LIV, including top stars like Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, must sign on to the new agreement in order to make it valid.
Incredibly, LIV doesn't just owe money to players it forked over millions of dollars to in order to join its rebel tour. It also owes money to other people and entities, including YouTube content creator Rick Shiels. LIV still owes him $1.4 million as an ambassador, in one of the clearest signs of the wasteful spending that doomed the league.

This week's Irish Open marks the start of a strong slate of DP World Tour events that will see a large contingent of international LIV Golf players mix with some of their notable PGA Tour peers as the former await clarity on their league's future.
Jon Rahm will tee it up in Ireland alongside fellow LIV members Tyrrell Hatton, Joaquin Niemann, Sergio Garcia, Adrian Meronk, David Puig, Tom McKibbin, and Thomas Detry. PGA Tour players in the field include defending Irish Open champion Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Shane Lowry, Alex Fitzpatrick, and Patrick Reed, who has recently completed his one-year suspension from the PGA Tour for joining LIV in 2022.
Many of those LIV and PGA Tour players will also compete at next week's BMW PGA Championship, which is part of the DP World Tour's elevated Rolex Series and has a $9 million purse. The Irish Open, which begins Thursday, has a $6 million purse but still offers a key opportunity for LIV players to earn Official World Golf Ranking points as they remain banned from the PGA Tour amid LIV's uncertain future heading into 2027. The league laid off most of its staff last week and is still working on finalizing a new funding deal with BC Partners Credit, following the Saudi PIF's exit.
Rahm told BBC Sports on Tuesday that "time will tell" what happens regarding his playing future as he is "more than willing to fulfill" his LIV contract that has multiple years remaining reportedly still worth more than $100 million. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said last month that there are "no current plans" for another Returning Member Program like the one that brought Koepka back to the Tour in January—and was also available to Rahm and fellow LIV stars Bryson Dechambeau and Cam Smith.

Nine LIV players, including Rahm, were granted conditional releases for the 2026 season that allowed them to retain the DP World Tour membership despite competing in some conflicting LIV events.
