The Cleveland Guardians beat the Cincinnati Reds in last night's series finale 6-1 behind a four-run fifth. Joey Cantillo was scoreless, but had a high pitch count and only threw four innings. Erik Sabrowski, having not pitched in nearly a week, earned the win. The team has a much needed off day before they start a two series homestand. Cleveland will host the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend and the New York Mets to start the post trade deadline portion of the baseball season.
Tom Hamilton said, on last night's broadcast, that the team is "actively trying to improve" at the trade deadline but could not elaborate further.
The time to scoreboard watch is now. As the Guardians were defeating the Reds, the New York Yankees gave up a four run lead late in the game against the Chicago White Sox, tying the game at 4-4 going into the ninth. The White Sox ultimately walked it off in the twelfth inning.
The Detroit Tigers were humiliated by the Baltimore Orioles. Behind Tarik Skubal, who threw his 1000th strikeout yesterday, the Tigers gave up a seven run lead to lose 10-9 in extras.

Saudi Arabia government official Turki Alalshikh's investment deal into Derby County could be finalised as early as next week.
Alalshikh, co-founder of boxing promotion company Zuffa, is interested in buying a stake in the Championship club and there has been a deal on the table with English football's independent regulator since May.
With final checks set to take place, his investment is expected to be given the green light in the coming days, BBC Radio Derby reports.
The proposed deal had raised concerns among human rights campaigners, including Amnesty International, which last month said the independent regulator faced a "defining test" over the investment.
Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority - and someone who is close to the Kingdom's de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman - has been criticised by human rights groups for his role in alleged 'sportswashing'.

The Chicago Bears opened training camp today, and with everyone reporting to Halas Hall, they made two more roster moves by placing defensive end Montez Sweat on the Active/Non-Football Illness list and safety Elijah Hicks on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.
Sweat joins linebacker T.J. Edwards on the NFI list, and much like T.J., Sweat's stay isn't expected to be long. Earlier today, general manager Ryan Poles said Edwards injured his calf during offseason training and is expected back soon, calling it "nothing major." Sweat's illness is expected to keep him away for a few days.
Hicks reported some shin discomfort when reporting, so his start to camp will be delayed a bit. He joins nickelback Kyler Gordon, linebackers Keyshaun Elliott and Noah Sewell, offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo, and defensive lineman Shemar Turner on the PUP list.
Poles said Gordon spent the entire offseason at Halas Hall to make sure he was ready, but there has been a "delay" in his recovery. This latest issue is with this calf, and there is no timetable to return.

Whilst Paris Saint-Germain appeared determined not to pursue their efforts to sign RB Leipzig's Yan Diomandé (19), the arrival of new intermediaries – who are said to be much closer to the Rouge et Bleu management – could well shake things up, according to reports in L'Équipe.
And this is particularly due to Real Madrid's apparent difficulty in convincing their German counterparts to sell the Ivorian forward, even though the latter is said to have already reached an agreement to join the Spanish club. However, the expansion of his entourage in recent days is reported to have slowed down negotiations, whilst ever-increasing transfer fees are reportedly being demanded for the player.
This is a situation from which PSG could well benefit, as they are aware of Diomandé's interest in their project and his strong desire to play under Luis Enrique. Whilst nothing is yet certain, the Parisians may nevertheless be tempted by the prospect of launching a final push in the coming hours – provided, that is, that Real Madrid do not manage to finalise the deal first.

A former Husker announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday night. Tight end Travis Vokolek made the announcement on Instagram that he is medically retiring.
Vokolek suffered a neck injury last season while playing for the Arizona Cardinals. He was the third-string tight end for the Cardinals and played a part on special teams. Vokolek spent two seasons with Arizona after initially going undrafted as a free agent to the Baltimore Ravens. He played in five games for the Cardinals and totaled two solo tackles.
"After numerous visits with doctors and neurologists over the past couple of months, I have been advised to medically retire from the NFL due to a serious neck injury that I suffered this past season," he wrote in his post. "I am extremely grateful and blessed to have been able to live out my childhood dream of playing football at the highest level for the past three years. Football has taught me many life lessons and given me unforgettable memories."
Vokolek played three seasons at Nebraska after transferring from Rutgers in 2019. In his final season for the Huskers, he played in 10 games and set career highs with 20 catches, 240 receiving yards and two touchdowns. In his Nebraska career, Vokolek tallied 458 receiving yards and two touchdowns off 40 catches.

It was North Coast Paddling Club vs North Coast Paddling Club at the 3rd Annual Dragon Boat Festival in Budd Inlet in Olympia, Washington Saturday, July 11. And not surprisingly, North Coast Paddling Club came out the winner.
Forty-four members of Clatsop County’s North Coast Paddling Club dragon boat team competed on two different teams, one named Coastal Reign and the other, Coastal Lightning. After three qualifying heats for each boat team, the Reign and Lightning teams found themselves racing side by side in the finals heat for Division E, along with teams from Portland and Seattle. When the storm cleared, Coastal Reign took first and Coastal Lightning took second, with a time difference of .04 seconds.
Maria Fasching, paddling in the lead stroke position for Lightning, said that racing next to Reign was the highlight of her day. “Feeling our crews push each other stroke for stroke was incredibly motivating and showed me I could compete with some of the most experienced paddlers on my team,” said Fasching.
The weather was perfect for the race and the water conditions on the racecourse at Puget Sound’s Budd Inlet were much better than the team experienced in Seattle in June. Colleen Holdar, tiller for Lightning, said that it was the first time she had steered in full saltwater so she had to adjust for the difference in buoyancy. Added Holdar: “And, I was surprised to see a harbor seal at the finish line!”
Coach Amy Spunaugle described the team’s performance as amazing and said it was great to have both teams finish so well. She added her team’s second race was when it all came together. “It reminded me why I love the sport of dragon boating.”

Argentina fly half Tomas Albornoz has been charged with misconduct and faces a disciplinary hearing after "remonstrating with match officials" follow his side's defeat to England in Santiago del Estero.
Albornoz was denied a chance to kick for a potential draw after a last-minute try was ruled out by referee Angus Gardner in consultation with television match official (TMO) Brett Cronan.
The officials ruled that Bautista Delguy had grounded the ball simultaneously on the try-line and corner flag, and thus not scored, as England held on for a 31-24 victory.
Albornoz appeared to approach Gardner and his ******* istants aggressively thereafter, and has now been charged by World Rugby under its Match Official Abuse Sanction Process,
The details of his disciplinary hearing will be released in due course.

Middlesbrough have won the race to sign England youth international striker Will Lankshear.
The 21-year-old had plenty of interest from clubs this summer but is Boro who have completed the signing of the player from Tottenham Hotspur with Lankshear penning a five-year deal with the club.
Reports suggest that the Championship side have paid an initial £10 million for the player which could rise by a further £10 million depending on add-ons.
"Middlesbrough is such a massive club over the years; I deem it to be a Premier League club," former Sheffield United youth product Lankshear said on his arrival.
"The project here really excites me. I can’t wait to get started and be part of the journey, and get this club back where it belongs."

Chelsea have completed the signing of England midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a British record transfer fee of £117m.
On Monday, Rogers returned from the United States, having featured for England at the World Cup, to undergo a medical in London and sign a six-year contract with an option for a further year.
"I'm joining the biggest club in London," he said in his announcement video.

Schwarber was wearing a microphone for FOX during his second at-bat of the game in the third inning, with the National League trailing 3-0.

The first mentions of Wagler came via summer buzz out of Ubben Basketball Complex a year ago and then grew exponentially as he put together the best single season by an Illinois freshman in program history. There was a lot to document, including a 46-point game during the Illini's win at Purdue, his slew of individual awards and honors and, ultimately, the end of his one-and-done Illinois career as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft.
How Illinois built its roster ahead of the 2025-26 season became a national story. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has not taken any decision on reducing One-Day Internationals from 50 overs to 40 overs, putting to rest speculation that a major format change was imminent following its Annual Conference in Edinburgh.

Despite media reports suggesting that the governing body was considering shortening the format, no proposal was approved during the meeting. While the ICC Board discussed its long-term strategy for the game and heard presentations on restructuring cricket in the next commercial cycle, there was no formal decision regarding the future of the ODI format.
The conference also failed to produce any breakthrough on expanding the World Test Championship (WTC) from nine to 12 teams. Afghanistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe remain outside the competition, with the ICC Board making no announcement on their inclusion in future editions.

The annual gathering featured presentations on the ICC's strategic roadmap for the next cycle, while official media rights partner JioStar also addressed the Board. However, the details of those discussions have not been made public.
Another major outcome of the conference was the decision to continue the suspension of USA Cricket (USAC) and Cricket Canada. USAC has been under suspension since September 2025, and although the ICC acknowledged the importance of restoring its membership ahead of cricket's return at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, the Board decided to maintain the status quo.

Cricket Canada, suspended in June, will also remain under suspension until it resolves its internal governance issues. The ICC is also monitoring the possibility of a Canadian franchise joining Major League Cricket (MLC) before taking any further decision.

Meanwhile, France Cricket has been placed on notice by the ICC, while the Mauritius Cricket Federation (MCF) was officially admitted as an ****** ociate Member. The addition takes the ICC's global membership to 111 nations, comprising 12 Full Members and 99 ****** ociate Members.

The ICC Annual Conference was held in Edinburgh from July 8 to July 11.
