The outfielder had a short rehab stint at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as he recovered from a Grade 2 left hamstring strain that's kept him off the field since late July. "I've been wanting to get back for a while," Bellinger said. "You always want to be realistic, and for me, I want to come back and stay. You don't want to make anything worse. I'm itching to get back, but I've got to continue to play it safe and make sure I'm 100 percent ready." It's really something to see a true one-of-one. The first time it really stuck, it really happened to me, was Usain Bolt in 2008 in Beijing. With all due respect to what Michael Phelps did in those Olympics, there's something primal about the 100m dash, something we've been doing as a species since Urk bragged to Gru he could get to that rock over there first. It was quite something for 14-year-old Joshua to see the seven fastest men in the world three steps behind this freak — and I say that with the utmost admiration.
Of course Bolt did that two more times in those Games, then broke his own record at the World Championships in Berlin a year later—still the fastest time ever recorded—and then in London, and just for good measure took home the gold in the 100m and 200m in Rio in 2016. The greatest sprinter of all time and a 100th-percentile outcome for what the human body can be. Bolt went out with a whimper though, pulling up lame in the 4x100m relay final at the 2017 World Championships. A hamstring injury mid-race spelled the end of one of sports' great, fiery comets.
You almost never get to go out on your own terms, especially in athletics. Eventually, your body—the thing that earned you a living, the thing that elevated you over pretty much the entire global population—lets you down. Giancarlo Stanton is also a true one-of-one. The announcement added that the veteran southpaw would be undergoing imaging to determine the severity of the injury.
Weathers made it through only 3 1/3 innings. He threw 72 pitches and allowed two earned runs on eight hits. Weathers didn't issue any walks and struck out three.
The 26-year-old is in his first season with the Yankees. He has made 25 starts this year and has tallied a 5-7 record with a 3.60 ERA. The southpaw has struck out 143 batters in 137 1/3 innings of work.

Aaron Judge has been out for the New York Yankees since May 31 as he recovers from a rib fracture.
The postseason is getting closer, and if the Yankees want to make a World Series run, they need Judge back in the lineup. He has been playing catch and running as part of his buildup, but on Thursday, Aaron Boone revealed he has started hitting off a tee, per MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

Judge has plenty more hurdles to clear before he is back in right field, but if he can start hitting, then the Yankees could at least get him in the lineup as a designated hitter. Giancarlo Stanton is in his ninth season with the New York Yankees. The 36-year-old designated hitter has admittedly struggled with injuries for a sizable portion of his tenure. He is in year 12 of a 13-year, $325 million megadeal that he originally signed with the Miami Marlins.
In 2026, Stanton has missed a majority of the season. His first injury was a right calf strain suffered on April 24. When the DH was just on the verge of returning in mid-June, he hurt a different area of that calf and has been out since.
On Saturday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reported that Stanton jogged in the outfield Friday. Manager Aaron Boone said that he expects the slugger to be back at some point this season: "He'll be in there when the time's right."
In 24 games, all in March/April he slashed .256/.302/.422 for a .724 OPS, three home runs and 14 RBIs. Before these recent calf injuries, Stanton was hitting mostly in the fourth and fifth spot in the order.
The 36-year-old has put together a 6.3% walk rate and 30.2% strikeout rate this season. The walks are a bit down, albeit this short sample size is difficult to draw conclusions on. This less patient approach is perhaps what led to his lower slugging numbers than usual.

On Saturday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reported that Stanton jogged in the outfield Friday. Manager Aaron Boone said that he expects the slugger to be back at some point this season: "He'll be in there when the time's right."
In 24 games, all in March/April he slashed .256/.302/.422 for a .724 OPS, three home runs and 14 RBIs. Before these recent calf injuries, Stanton was hitting mostly in the fourth and fifth spot in the order.
The 36-year-old has put together a 6.3% walk rate and 30.2% strikeout rate this season. The walks are a bit down, albeit this short sample size is difficult to draw conclusions on. This less patient approach is perhaps what led to his lower slugging numbers than usual.

The 2026 Trade Deadline has officially come and gone, and it's time for the immediate breakdown of the state of the Yankees following it. It's fair to say that most weren't projecting a flashy deadline for New York with a big-name blockbuster or anything of that sort, but it still comes as a surprise that at the end of the day they made only three moves: they traded Camilo Doval away to Pittsburgh, and then added Luis García Jr. alongside Heliot Ramos to bolster their lineup and provide some depth to the outfield while two of their stars are on the shelf.
Let's start with what they did accomplish before we get into what they failed to get. García is a legit A-plus addition offensively, leading the National League in slugging and coming in just behind Ben Rice for third overall across MLB. They also managed to pry him away from Washington for a basket of arms that they likely didn't have plans for this season and possibly even next, sending off their 14th-rated prospect Jack Cebert and their 25th-ranked prospect Ben Grable by MLB Pipeline's scouting, alongside Yovanny Cruz and Jake Bird. Cruz impressed in Triple-A this season and got a couple brief stints with the major league team but never seemed to be in the plans for a postseason bullpen, while Bird actively worked his way off the roster two years in a row after getting acquired at the deadline last season. Overall, that's a more than acceptable package to surrender in exchange for a bat that can mash against righties and bring some protection to Rice's spot in the order.

On top of that, they seem to have no actual solution for third base and shortstop, where Anthony Volpe and Ryan McMahon continue to struggle. Knowing Judge, Bellinger and Stanton could return soon, the Yankees are unlikely to add a superstar outfielder or designated hitter. However, adding an infielder could do wonders for the offense if that infielder were Luis Arraez.
Luckily for the Yankees, the San Francisco Giants will be sellers at the deadline, and Arraez is a rental they could look to deal away. He is hitting .326 with an .811 OPS on the year. He has improved his slugging while maintaining a high average. Not to mention, he is having an elite year defensively at second base. Defense was always seen as a downside for Arraez, but that is not the case this year.
How would Arraez fit in on the Yankees? Well, for starters, he would slot in at second base. However, Boone later appeared on "Talkin Yanks" to say that he did not mean for people to think Stanton would not be back just because there is no timeline.
On Wednesday, Boone was asked to clarify once again where things stand with Stanton.
"He's in his running progression now," Boone told reporters on Wednesday. "I don't have a timeline. I don't know when he gets to the end of that and what we do to get him back, but feel like he's moving in a good direction. I just don't know if that's a couple weeks from now, a few weeks from now, whatever it is, but he's getting much closer."

The 2026 All-Star Game festivities have come and gone. The dust has settled, and for the first time since 2024, the American League came away victorious by shutting out the National League 4-0 at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday.
Scoring was scarce on Tuesday, as the four runs the AL scored came in only two innings. Former Dodgers MVP Cody Bellinger had the deciding hit in his first All-Star Game since 2019, driving in two against Cristopher Sánchez. As a result of him driving in half of Tuesday's final score, Bellinger was awarded with the All-Star Game MVP honors, becoming the first Yankee to do so since his teammate Giancarlo Stanton in 2022.
From being atop the baseball summit, to the pitfalls he experienced with the Dodgers in 2021-22, to reviving his career with the same organization his father played for, Tuesday marked a full-circle moment for Bellinger, as he envisioned being in the All-Star game regularly following his first three big league seasons, writes Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
"I was like, 'Oh, I'll be here every year,'" Bellinger said. "It took a long time to get back. It's such a competitive league. It's hard to be an All-Star. Health, performance, it all has to come together."
Another former Dodger, though lacking the hardware Bellinger earned in Los Angeles, added the exclamation mark for this year's Midsummer Classic. Miguel Vargas tattooed a 433 foot home run into the second deck of the left field bleachers against Justin Wrobleski, bringing the score to its final mark. With his home run, Vargas now joins Frank Thomas and Magglio Ordoñez as the only White Sox with a home run in the All-Star Game.

Instead, it was seemingly harmless two-run, first-inning single by a former MVP participating in his first All-Star Game in seven years whose hit proved to be worthy of the All-Star MVP award.

This week’s All-Star Week festivities got off to a bombastic start on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park, with outstanding performances from established sluggers and burgeoning stars alike in the Home Run Derby. The spectacle of Jordan Walker silencing a partisan Philadelphia crowd with six consecutive bombs to ****** the ****** le from Kyle Schwarber will be hard to top in terms of pure theatre, but let’s see what the Midsummer Classic itself has to offer!
Tonight, the Yankees will have both Ben Rice and Cody Bellinger representing them in the American League’s starting lineup; they’ll take on Philadelphia ace Cristopher Sánchez on his home mound as the Senior Circuit seeks to claim their second straight victory in the main event. The AL had mounted a late-inning comeback to erase a 6-0 lead, but Schwarber ultimately led the NL to victory by winning a Derby-esque swing-off challenge which replaced extra innings.
Of course, two other Yankees were named All-Stars this season: Aaron Judge and Cam Schlittler. Judge is still working his way back from the rib fracture he sustained in the first week of June. Schlittler was about as deserving as any pitcher to get the starting nod for the AL, but owing to his start this past Saturday, opted not to participate. Strangely, Blue Jays manager John Schneider, who will be leading the American League on the field tonight, said he was always planning to tap the Blue Jays’ Dylan Cease as the starter—even if Schlittler was available to pitch. Weird move, but all right.
Bellinger and Rice will hit consecutively in Schneider’s lineup, at the sixth and seventh spot respectively. (Everybody get those jokes out of the way now.) They were not voted into starting spots, but they will each get the nod regardless due to injuries to Judge and Byron Buxton in Bellinger’s case and the combination of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.‘s withdrawal from the event and replacement Nick Kurtz’s recent addition to the IL.
Rice participated in last night’s Home Run Derby, but failed to advance to the next round. He’ll still get a chance to show off the impressive game power which has brought him to the precipice of 30 home runs at the season’s intermission. Bellinger was slumping mightily ahead of the season’s final week, but finished strong with five hits in the last four games ahead of the break. He gets a chance to keep that momentum going against…well, somebody in the NL’s pitching staff. Since it tends to be a new face pitching every inning, and all. Just one big hit from either of them however, and they could join Derek Jeter (2000), Mariano Rivera (2013), and Giancarlo Stanton (2022) as the only All-Star Game MVPs in Yankees history.
