Ahead of the release of Zach Cregger's reboot today, there were already seven Resident Evil movies — six of them in a more action-oriented series starring Milla Jovovich, four of which were directed by her husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, plus an unrelated "reboot" in 2021 called Welcome to Raccoon City that went for more of a John Carpenter vibe and was an attempt to truly "adapt" the games. There's also a Netflix TV show version that ran for a single season in 2022. Countless other works in the horror genre have unofficially cribbed from the Resident Evil games over the years. It's an incredibly influential series.
And yet, Zach Cregger, hot off his Oscar-winning original horror film Weapons, is the first filmmaker to truly feel like he's adapting the experience of playing the games, arguably the scariest survival-horror ones ever made, rather than simply incorporating story and plot elements to explain the outbreak of infected people. In Cregger's hands, Resident Evil is pure crowd-pleasing popcorn cinema, best experienced in a packed movie theater with dozens of other people reacting loudly to the madness.
The premise couldn't be simpler — and the runtime a brisk 90ish minutes — as we follow a medical courier named Bryan (Austin Abrams, proving himself to be the Bruce Campbell for a new generation) who unwittingly finds himself fighting for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in a swirl of chaos. Fans of the video games will recognize various easter eggs and nods to game mechanics, including the importance of conserving ammo and checking every last drawer for more of it.
But you don't need to be familiar with the games at all to enjoy the movie, which is an efficient horror set-piece machine that just keeps putting Abrams in increasingly concerning situations. I can't stress enough how much this is a one-man show anchored by Abrams, and he crushes it. He's in every scene, earning tons of laughs simply by reacting as a normal person would in this situation; he's a true audience-surrogate character, ushering us through the chaos. His comedic timing, paired with Cregger's ****** ured camerawork and editing, is a match made in genre-movie heaven.
I didn't expect it to be so heavily inspired by genre classics like The Thing and Evil Dead. In fact, it's a better Evil Dead movie than the last several movies with "Evil Dead" in the ****** le, nailing the horror-comedy tone that only Sam Raimi and a few others can pull off with aplomb. Cregger has a ton of fun with the various monstrous forms that the infected take here, from fusing multiple humans together to crafting his own horror take on a big, scary guy like Dune's Baron Harkonnen. Resident Evil movies have thus far treated the zombies as pretty traditional movie zombies; Cregger's version gets at the attempt to create the next stage of human evolution.

Warren Buffett propelled Berkshire Hathaway to six decades of market-beating returns, so it's no surprise that retail investors around the world look to him for advice. The billionaire aims to select quality companies when they're undervalued, then benefit over time as their earnings grow and the stock prices take off. Buffett has invested throughout market environments, from bull markets to bear markets, and has experienced market crashes -- and over time, he's scored a clear win by sticking to his investing principles.
Buffett no longer leads the investing decisions at Berkshire Hathaway -- he handed that role over to his hand-picked successor, Greg Abel, at the start of the year and just this week turned the chairman position over to his son, Howard Buffett. However, Warren Buffett, now chairman emeritus, has continued to speak publicly about investing. And we also may refer to his past words of advice, which continue to ring true today.
Missed AI's "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our ****** ysts, we're only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »
In fact, one comment from Buffett looks particularly interesting right now, given certain elements of uncertainty that have weighed on the market recently, from higher inflation to worries about spending on artificial intelligence (AI). Buffett says many investors make this one mistake. Let's find out what it is and consider how to avoid this common -- and costly -- error.

If you're trying to choose between the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: VOO) and the State Street SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: SPY), it might seem they're essentially interchangeable. They're both huge and track the same index.
At a high level, that's probably true. But if you want to dive deep and get picky, a few factors set them apart.
Missed AI's "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our **** ysts, we're only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »
The State Street SPDR S&P 500 ETF has an expense ratio of 0.0945%. The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF charges just 0.03%. Given that the index has historically returned about 10% per year, this fee difference may seem immaterial. But I will take any advantage I can get.
Because of their sizes, trading spreads (the difference between the buying (ask) price and the selling (bid) price of a stock) are virtually nothing, so spreads aren't really a consideration here. But if you can own the exact same index for a third of the cost, why not?

Sir Lynton Crosby has spent four decades reading public opinion for people who couldn't afford to get it wrong — prime ministers, presidents, and the boards of some of the world's largest companies. As Executive Chairman of CT Group, the research and strategy firm he co-founded, Crosby has built one of the most quietly influential shops in political and corporate consulting, with offices across eight countries and a client roster that spans government, industry, and advocacy. In recent years, CT Group has turned its research apparatus toward a subject closer to home for the business community it serves: capitalism itself, and why the system's public standing hasn't kept pace with its performance. We spoke with Crosby about what the firm's research found, and what it means for how business leaders talk about the system they operate in.
Exec Edge: CT Group ran a large-scale study on public attitudes toward capitalism. What prompted that?
We had seen a number of signals that some of the trending narratives on how the public felt about the predominant economic system were misleading. But we don't operate on feelings, but instead we respond to data, so we tested it. There's a narrative that's taken hold since the financial crisis — that the public has simply given up on capitalism, that a decade of scandals and populist politics has turned the average voter against the system outright. We fielded a nationally representative survey of 3,000 people, backed by focus groups, to find out if that was actually true or if something more specific was going on. It turned out to be the latter.
Exec Edge: What did the research actually find?

When developers hand governance to residents at build-out, HOA fees spike as homeowners absorb true amenity costs and cover reserve underfunding through special ****** sments.
HOA fee increases in post-transition communities routinely outpace the 2027 Social Security COLA of roughly 3%, squeezing retirees on fixed incomes.

Two retirees, same $1 million, same 4% rule, buy one finished with $1.4 million, the other hit $0 in 12 years. Our free reader guide explains the flaw that separated them, and the income-first method built to avoid it.
Readers in their late fifties and early sixties ask weekly: Can I retire to a Margaritaville community, and what will it cost over twenty or thirty years? The brochure sells one version, while the sales center sells another. The real question a retiree should ask is what happens once marketing wears off and the structural issue the sales presentation almost never covers emerges.

With a dividend yield of 4.3%, Ford (F) is among the highest-yielding constituents of the S&P 500 Index ($SPX). That number would look even more compelling considering Ford's dividend yield is over four times what an average S&P 500 Index constituent pays.
However, a bit of number-crunching tells a different picture. Dividend yield is basically a function of the per-share dividend, which is the numerator in the equation, and the stock price, which is the denominator. Dividend yield rises when the company raises its dividends or the share price falls. More often than not, the latter is true for companies that have a very high dividend yield.
Get exclusive insights with the FREE Barchart Brief newsletter. Subscribe now for quick, incisive midday market ****** ysis you won't find anywhere else.
The S&P 500's dividend yield is near its historical lows. Two factors can be blamed for the dip in the world's most popular index's dividend yield. First, tech companies' share in the market-cap-weighted index has soared amid the artificial intelligence (AI) driven rally. Mega-cap tech companies are known to be frugal with dividends, and their rising weightage in the index pulls down its dividend yield. Second, while the annualized dividend per share of the S&P 500 has continued to rise over the years, the increase has been much lower compared to the surge in stock prices.
In contrast, Ford's quarterly dividend has been static since July 2022, when the company raised the payout by 50% to $0.15. Notably, while Ford paid special dividends in the preceding three years to reach its payout targets, it hasn't raised its payout for over four years. Its dividend yield is still high because of its underperforming stock, which has essentially gone nowhere in the last five years and trades 46% below its October 2022 highs.

Autodesk (ADSK) stock has 23.6% of room above it before it meets a ceiling that has turned it back three times, and 5% below it before the reason to be there stops being true. In dollars: $272.34 overhead, $220.31 Wednesday, $209.29 underneath. The stock has lost about 31% over the past twelve months, so the easy read is that the business broke. Its own numbers say it did not.
Would You Have Made Money Buying Autodesk Here Before?
Buyers have stepped in at this price zone eight times before. Three of those eight produced a completed advance, averaging a 34.3% gain to the peak that followed, with a median of 459 days from the defense to that peak. The other five have not yet risen above their own starting price, so they are not in that average at all. The ceiling overhead asks for less than that average of the three that paid.
The last two years are the problem. Autodesk entered this price band on five separate occasions over the last twenty-four months, and counting only a 20% gain before any 5% fall as a defense, one held and four broke 5% lower first. The path up is not clear either: the stock has to get through $248.16 and $261.04, both pauses rather than proven ceilings.
Is Autodesk In Better Shape Than The Last Time It Sat Here?

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A shooting at a high school in the southern Philippines on Friday left two 14-year-old students and the teenage gunman dead and wounded at least eight people, local government and police officials said.
The shooting at Banga National High School in the South Cotabato town of Banga is under investigation, the Philippine National Police said in a statement. Police officers secured the campus and coordinated with school officials and medical responders, the statement said.
South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo said the two students killed were a boy and a girl, both 14. He said the gunman also shot himself and died.
Banga Mayor Albert Palencia told DZBB radio that the gunman hit 10 students in the classroom next to his, two of whom died while eight were wounded. A person who was hyperventilating was also brought to a hospital, according to the governor.
Tamayo said the gunman's best friend told officials that the teenager was a member of an online "true crimes community." Authorities were investigating the account and whether it had any connection to the shooting, he said.

Cadence Design Systems (CDNS) trades at 54.5 times trailing earnings. A multiple that high is a requirement rather than an opinion. The price only works if the business grows into it, and you can work out exactly how much growth it takes. The harder question is whether that calculation deserves your trust here.
What Is Cadence's Price Already ***** uming?
Three things have to be true, and none is a forecast. Each is an ***** umption the price has already made, and each one is worth testing.
First, the market gives Cadence four years to grow into the multiple. Second, the multiple then settles at 28.8 times, where a mature, scaled software franchise usually lands. Third, net margin holds near 24.3%, roughly where Cadence's net margin has run over the past twelve months.
So How Fast Would Cadence Have To Grow?

Teck Resources Ltd (NYSE:TECK) stock's pullback from its Sept. 8 record high of $72.56 has found support at the 60-, 80-, and 100-day moving averages. The 100-day trendline in particular is a historically bullish signal that presents an intriguing 'buy the dip' angle.
Per Schaeffer's Senior Quantitative ******* yst Rocky White, TECK has traded within 0.75 times the 100-day moving average's 20-day average true range (ATR) after spending at least 80% of the previous two weeks and 80% of the prior 42 trading sessions above the trendline. This setup has occurred eight other times over the last decade, after which the stock was higher one month later 75% of the time, averaging a large 13.8% gain.
Short interest accounts for a healthy 7.5% of the stock's available float, leaving ample sideline buying power should some of these bearish bets begin to unwind. TECK's 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) of 28.4 also sits in "oversold" territory, which often precedes a short-term bounce.
Plus, TECK's Schaeffer's Volatility Scorecard (SVS) sits at 81 out of 100, suggesting the shares have tended to outperform options traders' volatility expectations during the past year.

If you need your spouse's financial contributions to live out your dreams for your later years, but you don't agree on what preparing for retirement looks like, this can create conflict. That's especially true if one spouse feels like the other may be putting their plans at risk.

Shares of Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA) stock are inching 0.4% higher to trade at $211.72 this afternoon, taking a breather after five-straight losing sessions, including yesterday's AI-induced selloff of 3.4%. The equity is still up 13.3% in 2026, however, and a rebound could soon be on the way, per a historically bullish trendline.
According to Schaeffer's Senior Quantitative ***** yst Rocky White, NVDA is trading within 0.75 times the 126-day moving average's 20-day average true range (ATR), after spending at least 80% of the previous two weeks and 80% of the prior 42 trading sessions above that trendline.
This setup has appeared 11 times over the last decade, after which the stock was higher one month later 82% of the time, averaging a 6.2% gain. From its current perch, a move of this caliber would put the equity just shy of $225.
NVDA sports a 50-day put/call volume ratio at the International Securities Exchange (ISE), Cboe Options Exchange (CBOE), and NASDAQ OMX PHLX (PHLX) that stands higher than 83% of readings from the past year. Should this bearish sentiment begin to unwind, it could trigger a new round of tailwinds for the shares.
Options are looking affordable as well. The stock's Schaeffer's Volatility Index (SVI) of 34% stands higher than just 2% of all other readings from the past year. In other words, near-term option traders are pricing in low volatility expectations at the moment.

On September 10, a caller outlined a detailed financial thesis showing Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) reaching $1,400 and asked whether the **** ysis held water. In response, Mad Money host Jim Cramer said:
I mean, that's a remarkable **** ysis. It's spot on in every single number. Every single thing you said is true, which is why my Charitable Trust owns it, and why we are buying it aggressively. And by the way, can I just say if you listen to what… [the caller] said, he put some money away. He was fortunate enough to have money, which I know not everybody can have, but he had money. He put it in an individual stock. Now, if he put it in an index fund, he'd make some money, but he got really rich. And part of my job is not just to get you rich, but to hopefully get you really rich.
Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) stands as one of three primary global manufacturers of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) and NAND flash memory, positioning it at the center of the ongoing expansion in artificial intelligence infrastructure. Because advanced AI workloads require significantly higher memory bandwidth, demand has surged for Micron's High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM3E) architecture, which is integrated directly into top-tier AI graphics processors and data center accelerators. With memory production capacity for advanced AI chips remaining constrained industry-wide, Micron has secured long-term purchase agreements that cover its HBM output through 2026 and into 2027, providing visibility into top-line revenue growth.
Driven by accelerated AI server adoption and broader pricing recovery across traditional DRAM and NAND markets, it reported extraordinary growth in fiscal Q3. Revenue surged to $41.46 billion, more than quadrupling the $9.30 billion generated in the same period last year and stepping up sharply from $23.86 billion in the prior quarter. The company demonstrated exceptional operating leverage during the period, posting GAAP net income of $28.24 billion ($24.67 per diluted share) and non-GAAP net income of $28.86 billion ($25.11 per diluted share). Operating cash flow also scaled quickly, reaching $25.39 billion compared to $11.90 billion in the prior quarter and $4.61 billion in the prior-year period.
Despite its strong position in the AI supply chain, Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) operates in a historically cyclical memory industry with some operational and market risks. Memory chip pricing remains sensitive to industry-wide supply-and-demand imbalances, where oversupply can rapidly compress profit margins during broader downturns in consumer electronics demand or corporate IT spending.

In some markets, it costs less to rent than to buy — by a lot. And it could be a great way to save a ton of money during your retirement years.
Mortgage and financial consultant Cody Schuiteboer of Best Interest Financial said many retirees never even consider renting as a serious option.
"There is an unshakeable mentality that buying is always the right choice, but the opposite is often true in retirement," he said. "If renting is actually cheaper in that market, renting lets retirees stretch their nest egg further."
MoneyLion ran the rent-versus-ownership numbers in the top retirement destinations along the East Coast and found the cities offering the greatest savings to renters. The homeownership numbers ****** umed a 10% down payment and a 6.53% interest rate, using average home price and rent numbers from Zillow.
Best of all, the following retirement hubs all have a total monthly expenditure cost under $4,000 according to BLS data, and adults over 65 make up at least 20% of the population.

Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa spent the summer keeping Republican Gov. Greg Abbott within arm's reach — never letting him lead by more than a few points.
However, two new polls disagree on whether that's still true, and the answer may decide how competitive the race really is.
A Sept. 15 poll from Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. showed that Republican Gov. Greg Abbott is leading his Democratic challenger, Gina Hinojosa, by 7 points, 48% to 41%, with 8% of voters undecided.
The Mason-Dixon had a 4-point margin of error, with Libertarian Pat Dixon at 1% and Independent Jenn Mack Raphoon at 2%. It surveyed 625 registered Texas voters Sept. 8-10 who said they are likely to vote in the November 2026 election.
The poll follows a Sept. 13 poll from SoCal Strategies that showed Abbott still in a strong position in his bid for a fourth term, leading Hinojosa 52% to 44%.

Soft, white feather-like appliqués line the entire neckline and shoulders, adding rich texture and movement to the structured bodice. A tight, sculpted waist hugging her figure gives way to a sleek ankle-length skirt with a sharp thigh-high side slit that reveals her legs as she moves.
She contrasted the light cream gown with classic black pointed-toe pumps that grounded the soft color palette. The heavyweight division will have to move on without Tom Aspinall for now. The Englishman recently announced that he is vacating the 265lbs **** le after another incident caused further damage to his right eye. Aspinall has been sidelined for nearly a year after suffering a double eye poke at the hands of Ciryl Gane at UFC 321.
He was diagnosed with the rare bilateral traumatic Brown's syndrome and has since undergone triple eye surgery. Eddie Hearn recently revealed that Aspinall needed more time for additional tests before he could be considered 100% healthy. However, the prolonged recovery timeline became increasingly frustrating.
The former champion took to Instagram and penned a lengthy post explaining the circumstances behind his decision. Shortly after, Josh Hokit seized the opportunity to stake his claim to the now-vacant **** le.
The 10-0 heavyweight had recently rejected Alex Pereira's call for a rematch with Gane, who currently holds the interim **** le. Instead, Hokit pitched two blockbuster headliners for UFC 334 later this year, with himself facing Gane for the heavyweight gold and Pereira taking on Sergei Pavlovich.
Now that Aspinall has vacated the belt, Gane is seemingly expected to be upgraded to undisputed champion. However, staying true to his original plan, Hokit has doubled down on facing the Frenchman for the championship next.

Brian Ortega has pulled out of his scheduled UFC 331 bout against Renato Moicano with an injury.
'T-City' has endured harship in recent years. The 35-year-old has only managed five fights in the last five years, averaging one per year. But it isn't just his activity that has been slacking. Oil prices (BZ=F, CL=F) are solidly back over the $100 per barrel mark. The August payrolls report showed the US economy added three times as many jobs as expected. Consumer pricing data showed "core" pricing ticking up faster than expected.
In other words, the case has grown increasingly strong for the Federal Reserve to issue its first rate hike in three years on Wednesday, as markets price in roughly a 90% probability of a quarter-point hike.
If equity market performance remains true to historical precedent, that could spell an upcoming trough for stocks, Goldman Sachs **** ysts led by Ben Snider wrote over the weekend.
Looking at history, the benchmark S&P 500 (^GSPC) index has seen an average three-month return of negative 2% at the start of a Fed hiking cycle throughout the past few decades, Goldman noted over the weekend.
That's primarily for three reasons.

Scooter Braun praised the "true partnership" he shares with Sydney Sweeney on her 29th birthday.
On Saturday, September 12, the music executive took to Instagram with a birthday tribute to his girlfriend. Alongside a video of the two dancing and kissing in front of a castle, he wrote, "Happy birthday to the woman who is the exception to every rule. The person who surprised me and showed me how life with true partnership can be lived.
"You make me smile harder, laugh louder, adventure more, and dream bigger. You've made the ordinary feel exciting and the future feel like something I can't wait to get to," he continued.
Scooter mentioned how her giggle can "change an entire day.
"I love how corny we can be together, because nothing else matters," he added. "There are a million things I could say, but the ones that matter most are just for you. Happy birthday Syd. Many more celebrations ahead. I love you."

If you turn to Gordon Ramsay for cooking advice, the legendary chef is probably going to have some useful info, but if it's frozen food you're curious about, the man has sent some mixed signals over the years. As a famous TV yeller/chef, Ramsay is known for speaking his mind on foods he won't touch, and one thing he's been keen to attack in the past is frozen food meals. While many of us might turn to a frozen pizza or burrito for a cheap, quick meal when we don't have the energy to cook, Ramsay once told Bon Appétit it's the one type of food he refuses to eat.
As for why we won't touch frozen food, Ramsay's reasons are understandable, but they're also a little tone-deaf. "It's so easy to prepare a quick meal using fresh produce, such as a simple stir-fry, but people still resort to ready meals that all taste exactly the same," he told the outlet. It's certainly true that there are plenty of quick and easy recipes if you're in a rush and that plenty of frozen foods are of less-than-ideal quality.
But in the life of most non-celebrity chefs, there are times when you simply don't have the ingredients, time, or energy to cook. Additionally, it appears that Ramsay doesn't think every frozen meal tastes the same, or else he wouldn't have launched his own line of frozen meals called "By Chef Ramsay" in 2023. Maybe his frozen chicken pot pie really is that much better?

Hope season for the New York Giants lasted longer than most teams this year, and so too did the questions that hung over their offseason.
With the second-to-last kick-off of opening weekend, Giants fans had to wait, and wait… and wait to find out what their team would look like in 2026. Likewise, they also had to wait until the last minute to find out whether star receiver Malik Nabers would even play against the Dallas Cowboys.
Nabers' status remained unclear even into Sunday afternoon, and reports eventually emerged that Nabers would be a true game-time decision.
Even Nabers himself wasn't sure if he'd be ready to go against the Cowboys. He even told his family to not come to the game, in case he wouldn't be able to play.
"I really didn't know; my family didn't even come to this game because it's a one-on-one battle that you have go through. You have to do it for yourself," he said after the game. "I didn't want everybody here, I didn't want my family here and I feel like I let them down by not playing, so I had to do it for myself first. I had to go out there, feel it out, feel like I was doing it and I felt good."

Sydney Sweeney has been busy. A lot of it you get to see; HBO ended Euphoria with a third and final stranglehold on the timeline, and word recently hit that Netflix's live-action Gundam, which Sweeney stars in alongside Noah Centineo and an ensemble cast, wrapped filming in Australia. And while we have no doubt that you've seen her the new "Just Sports" campaign she has launched with Novig—the first campaign from the 21+ sports prediction market—what you don't see is the work that Sweeney puts into projects like this, where she isn't just the face on the brand; she's an equity partner, putting together pieces of this campaign while away in Australia filming Gundam.
"Because I've been a part of the creative conversations from the very beginning," Sweeney shared with Complex via phone, "I had built an amazing relationship with everyone involved, and I was really excited to get to set."
"It can be kind of isolating when you're away for that long," Sweeney continued, "so being able to have my entire glam team come down, and my team who I've been with for almost a decade—they're like my family—it was really exciting to be able to see them again."

Sweeney calls the "Just Sports" campaign "a very simple and playful idea," aimed to "really bring the concept of 'just sports' to life," and the spot really does get to the heart of what Novig is all about. Novig's vision is truly just sports, with "a marketplace designed around transparency and efficiency" that is built by sports traders, for sports traders. Sweeney says that this was a true collaboration.
