You know, the Rutgers team that lost to UMass, which is 1-3 in Mid-American Conference play. Oh, Rutgahs. Its availability report suggests some key starters will not play. Its starting QB is hurt, its star receiver is doubtful. A one-read quarterback could probably pick its defense apart at full strength. That's a good opponent for a true freshman in Tommy Carr to face in his second career start, after the **** er of the unknown wore off last week and showed you that maybe, just maybe, it isn't the guy under center who's the problem but rather the guy calling his plays. If Beck takes some inspiration from the Michigan Stadium videoboard and runs the ball between the tackles from time to time, Michigan should roll to an easy win. If it's another stinker, it will make for an interesting crowd in next week's rivalry game. Pick: Michigan, 34-7
▶ John Niyo: If Rutgers can't cure Michigan's offensive woes, nothing will. Greg Schiano's days appear numbered in Piscataway, and the statistical numbers make it obvious why: Rutgers ranks 128th nationally in scoring defense and has given up 161 points in four Big Ten games thus far. Of course, that's more points than the Wolverines have scored in seven games this season. But this defense should be the cure Michigan's inefficient run game needs, and no matter who's playing quarterback, there'll be opportunities to create explosive plays in the pass game. Ferrari had a perfectly good explanation for Austin qualifying ready before the cars were back in the garage: the straights. Lewis Hamilton said rivals keep accelerating where the Ferrari lifts, and he put the Red Bull Ford power unit's advantage at roughly three to four tenths a lap, while admitting he hadn't seen the data that weekend. It is a tidy story. It is also only half of what the official timing sheet says.
Here is the awkward detail: Charles Leclerc's quickest lap of the weekend came in Q2, not Q3. He went 1:34.198 to top the second session, then 1:34.267 in the shootout. Had he simply repeated the Q2 lap, it would have been quicker than every Q3 time except Kimi Antonelli's pole lap of 1:34.035. A straight-line deficit doesn't switch on between sessions, so something else changed in Q3.
Lining up each driver's Q2 and Q3 laps is revealing. Hamilton found 0.522s between sessions and still ended up fifth, 0.276s off pole. Isack Hadjar found 0.637s. Max Verstappen found 0.257s and Antonelli 0.243s. Leclerc found nothing; he went backwards by 0.069s and finished fourth, 0.232s adrift.
Leclerc's own explanation was the track cooling down and the tyres not coming up to temperature cleanly in Q3. Fred Vasseur said Ferrari was in the pole fight until the final corner. Those aren't the words of a team that was out-powered by half a second down the straights. They describe a team that left time in the final sector on a one-lap run where the window for the tyres is narrow.
To be clear, Hamilton's straight-line complaint can be true at the same time. A car that gives away a few tenths in a straight line needs everything else to be perfect on a qualifying lap, and Ferrari's margin for a slightly cold tyre is thinner than it looks. That is my read, not something either driver said, but it fits the numbers: Ferrari looked like pole contenders in Q2 and a fraction short in Q3 because the margin vanished the moment the tyres weren't ideal.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a true star in the making on offense, none other than third-year center Zach Frazier, and he's not afraid to acknowledge how great he's playing this season.
Speaking with reporters ahead of the Week 8 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, Frazier said what fans were already thinking about his level of play in 2026: it's the best season he's had so far.
"I feel like, so far, this is the best season I've played," Frazier said via Chris Harlan of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I don't really focus on myself. I just want to keep building on it and just keep being consistent for the team."

When Dan Le Batard left ESPN in early 2021 and founded Meadowlark Media with former ESPN president John Skipper, many expected the company would scoop up many of the exiled former ESPNers Le Batard and Skipper had championed during their time at the network.
That proved partially true, as talent like Amin El-Hassan, Kate **** an and Tom Haberstroh came aboard. But Meadowlark couldn't lure some of the bigger fish from that cohort, even as some left ESPN for other companies.
One such host is Bomani Jones, who hosted Highly Questionable with Le Batard for several years and, before that, was a regular voice on Le Batard's radio show. In an interview this week on The Awful Announcing Podcast, Jones revealed that he actually came quite close to signing with Meadowlark. If not for getting his own HBO show, Jones said may have reunited with Le Batard.
"Yeah, I talked to them about going there in 2022," he revealed.
"If you would have asked in 2021 when Dan left ESPN and they went to start that, if you would have asked me where I would have thought I would have ended up at the end of that contract, I would have said that was the place that I thought I was going to end up. In large part because the place I worked at the time didn't seem like they were going to want to keep me.

Crowther in the end zone to hand the Golden Flashes their first lead against a non-conference FBS opponent since Sept. 9, 2023, when they led Arkansas 3-0.
It appeared as if Kent State would build on that early advantage. After the safety, the Golden Flashes drove down to the USF 1-yard line. Kent State lined up in a tush push formation, attempting a quarterback sneak to extend the lead. However, an unclean center-quarterback change left the ball on the floor, and former 5-star defensive end recruit C.J. Hicks scooped it up and ran 99 yards for his first career touchdown.

Notre Dame's 2026 college football schedule has been called many thing over the last eight months, but "tough" or anywhere near the word "hard" was certainly not among them. Still, some have mentioned that this Irish schedule could look a lot trickier as the season progresses. While they may eventually be true, it may not matter all that much (except for message boards and social media).
Notre Dame took a minute or two to get going against the Wisconsin Badgers in the season opener, but eventually the Irish whooped them 42-13. Notre Dame welcomed the Rice Owls to South Bend for the home opener, and sent them back to Texas with a 52-0 loss. Although the Irish were big favorites against Michigan State, they got their best shot — and still beat the Spartans 27-10. The Irish were once again massive favorites over a Big 10 team, and they more than covered against Purdue with a 49-10 win that was never that close. Notre Dame was better than a three touchdown favorite against North Carolina, but ran into a bit of a clunker (and rain) and beat the Tar Heels 37-26. After two weeks on the road, Notre Dame returned to South Bend and the homecooking did them well as the Irish destroyed the Stanford Cardinal 58-7. Disaster hit the Irish against BYU in a 28-24 loss, and no matter what part of the game you want to complain about (because there was quite a bit) the simplest thing to say is that Notre Dame flat out got outplayed by the Cougars. Notre Dame will now be able to chomp down some cheeseburgers during their bye week.
Notre Dame is still likely to be favored in every game this season, and they are still a popular pick to win the national championship. Their strength of schedule probably isn't going to matter much, but let's keep track of it anyway.

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday flatly refused to comment on a new report alleging that U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle engaged in improper and possibly illegal conduct before taking up her post.
Rubio told reporters that he would not discuss the allegations contained in a Wall Street Journal story that said Guilfoyle had asked a donor and supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump to pay a $100,000 credit card bill just before her confirmation hearing, promising him access to administration officials if he did.
He spoke before leaving Greece, where he delivered a speech calling for European countries to return to what he described as their civilizational roots.
Rubio said he was aware of The Wall Street Journal's report, which was published late Wednesday, but had no idea if it was true and he would not address it.
"You guys walk around thinking that because some source told you something and you reported it, it's the gospel. It's not the gospel. It's not the gospel for me. That's not the way we do things," he said at the foot of his plane as Guilfoyle, who was there to see him depart Greece, looked on.

A new report suggests that Prince Harry's UK return is complicated by a single issue involving Meghan Markle. The news comes as the **** ss reportedly misses her old life and loved ones in California. After six years in California, the Sussexes moved back to the UK in August 2026 with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Since returning to Britain, Prince Harry is reportedly carrying the major burden of making sure Meghan Markle feels at home. Per the Daily Express, sources are claiming that ensuring his wife settles in comfortably has become the Duke's biggest concern.
The "Suits" actress has previously spoken openly about her difficult time living in the UK. The couple even went on to make claims about the royal family in interviews and in Harry's memoir, "Spare."
Weighing in on her current situation, royal expert Duncan Larcombe suggests that Markle may now be going through what her husband experienced after relocating to the U.S. In conversation with New Magazine, he said, "Meghan's bound to feel homesick and be missing California and her friends, especially her mum Doria, because she has been the one constant in Meghan's life over the past few years. She'll feel the same way that Harry felt when he was out there."
Larcombe further explained that Prince Harry is under considerable pressure to help his wife settle in this time around. He reportedly wants her to genuinely connect with the UK, which did not happen during their previous stay. The royal commentator noted that the Duke will be keen for her to see Britain as a true home, which will be a significant undertaking.

When True Food Kitchen filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Oct. 4, the chain's CEO Jeff Chandler tried to make it clear that the company planned to continue operating.
"This process is the best path forward to simplify the business and focus on what we do best: delivering craveable, health-forward food and genuine hospitality. We are confident this step will help us build a stronger True Food Kitchen for the future," he said in a press release.
True Food Kitchen serves an upscale clientele looking for healthy food. Most of its stores are located in higher-end shopping or lifestyle plazas. That contributed to its financial problems, Chad Van Horn, founder and managing partner of Van Horn Law Group in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., shared with TheStreet.
"True Food Kitchen did not file because people stopped eating there. Sales were essentially flat, about $312 million last year against $314 million the year before, and the reported debt is around $42 million. That is a cost and footprint problem, not a demand problem," he said.
As part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, True Food Kitchen shared that it had already closed 12 restaurants. Those locations completed their final service on Oct. 4, but the initial release did not share which locations were closing.
