Former Oklahoma Sooners running back Taylor Tatum spent two seasons at OU before transferring to Michigan this offseason. However, according to multiple reports, Tatum has left the Wolverines, and he's no longer on the Michigan football team.
Hailing from Longview (Texas) High School, Tatum was the No. 1 running back in the recruiting class of 2024, and a major recruiting win for the Sooners. He was a part of the running back rotation as a true freshman, but he fell out of the mix due to ball security issues and the emergence of Xavier Robinson. In 2025, Tatum battled injuries and barely played, registering just one carry.
With the Wolverines, Tatum had switched positions to defensive back and was competing for reps in the safety room at Michigan. Now, he's left the team, with the reason still unknown.
Tatum also played baseball for the Sooners and was set to do the same for the Wolverines, though it's unknown at this time if that will happen next baseball season. Oklahoma was set to face off against Tatum in Ann Arbor in Week 2, but he'll now leave the program having never suited up for Michigan.
During his time in Norman, the 5-foot-10, 212-pounder ran 57 times for 277 yards and three touchdowns, also catching five passes for 41 yards and a score. Essentially all of that production came in the 2024 season.

The defensive back seven was decimated by injuries in 2025 so if one thing could change for 2026 better health would be at the top of the list. If there is a silver lining to last season's injury cloud, it is that lots of players had to step up and in the process they gained invaluable experience.
Continuing with the approach of looking at returning talent, portal acquisitions and incoming true freshmen, let's start with the linebackers which should be a position of strength due to all the returning experience and talent.
Luke Mergott started 2025 as a reserve but ended the season as a star with game sealing interceptions in both the ACC Championship Game and the Sun Bowl. Mergott recorded 90 tackles, which was the second most by a Blue Devil during the 2025 season.
Four additional linebackers with significant experience return: Nick Morris, Jr. (785 career snaps), Kendall Johnson (648 career snaps), Bradley Gompers (190 career snaps) and Elliot Schaper (118 career snaps). Those snaps are not just raw numbers but rather represent much production. The linebacker position was hurt by injuries in 2025. Can these experienced and talented players stay healthy? The talent and experience are there if the players can remain on the field.
Defensive end is another position where Duke will be relying on returning talent. Tyshon Reed, Kevin O'Connor, Kobe Smith, Bryce Davis and Semaj Turner have only one start between them but they have combined to play 2,042 snaps over 100 games. These experienced players must step up into the starters role in 2026.

The world is running short on fuels—the warning was first issued by some **** ysts who were watching the physical market rather than futures charts. Now, Big Oil is joining the chorus of warnings, with Shell, Exxon and Chevron all saying that prices at the pump are set to stay higher, regardless of where crude oil prices go.
"The constraint pain point in the energy system is refining," Exxon's chief financial officer Neil Hansen told Bloomberg in an interview last week. This, according to him, is "something that perhaps the market isn't fully focused on."
Indeed, most oil market observers have focused exclusively on futures prices even when the gap between those and physical oil prices has been quite substantial as a result of the export flow disruption in the Middle East that has now spread from the Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea as well. Futures prices are currently down from last week's peak on President Donald Trump's latest declaration of peace talks—but physical markets are in a very different place, and that is especially true of refined products.
Bloomberg reported last week that the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, plus China's caps on fuel exports—and Russia's ban on diesel exports—have effectively slashed global refining capacity by as much as 10%. This may not sound like much at first glance, but it is a significant enough number to have some observers worried.

The NY Rangers have made a significant effort to turn over their roster this offseason. The goal is to retool on the fly, while also giving Mike Sullivan the pieces he needs to take the club back to the postseason.
Despite the moves, the club has a major need, and it's an obvious one. The NY Rangers lack a true superstar that can elevate the team from mediocrity to true playoff contender status.
The Pavel Dorofeyev trade, while a solid move, isn't the solution the organization needs. While Dorofeyev is a great player, he isn't the type of superstar the team needs. Yes, there's a chance that the Russian winger could become the star that Artemi Panarin once was.
But that's not something the NY Rangers should be banking on.
The calculus behind Chris Drury's moves ahead of the 2025-26 season intended to position the team to land a major star free agent. However, none of the massive stars the Blueshirts would have wanted ever hit the market.

Barcelona's newest signing officially completed his move on Tuesday as Jesse Bisiwu signed a five-year deal at the club's offices along with president Joan Laporta.
The 18-year-old joins from Club Brugge on a deal worth €8.5 million and will begin the season at Barça Atlètic while working regularly with the first team group throughout the campaign.
Bisiwu spoke to the club's media after the signing and once again made it clear he's there to work, learn and earn Hansi Flick's trust.

Someone is collecting signatures that might kill a racetrack by telling people it will save it. That is not a typo. Paid canvassers in Nashville were caught on hidden camera telling residents that signing their petition would protect the Fairgrounds Speedway from being torn down by corporate developers. The petition actually does the exact opposite. It strips racing's legal protections from the city charter and tries to open the land to housing construction. Dale Earnhardt Jr. sat down with Marcus Smith, Jeff Burton, and Matt Weaver to talk about it.
"My question is, if it's true, which there's video evidence of these folks seeking these signatures, stating false information or just incorrect information, how can that not be taken to de-legitimize the 50,000, 60,000 signatures they need?" said Dale Jr. on Wednesday's episode of The Dale Jr. Download.
"They are using actual government letterhead to give this to the residents. That's the moment it becomes a legal matter."
Residents who figured out they were misled are now trying to pull their names off the petition. But the Metro Clerk's office earlier told them they cannot before suggesting that anyone who would like to remove their name can contact Restore Our Fairgrounds. That said, former council members have already filed formal complaints demanding a full investigation.
The petition campaign has been backed by John Ingram, per reports, owner of Nashville SC.

California is asking a federal judge to throw out Tory Lanez's $100 million federal lawsuit over his prison stabbing.
According to newly filed court documents reviewed by Complex, Attorney General Rob Bonta's office submitted a motion on Wednesday (July 29) seeking to dismiss every claim against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, arguing the agency cannot legally be sued under the federal law Lanez is relying on. Specifically, the AG is claiming that the Eleventh Amendment to the Constitution gives the state immunity from being sued in federal court.
The amendment says, "The Judicial power of the United States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted against one of the United States by Citizens of another State, or Citizens or Subjects of any Foreign State." The AG's office makes the argument that this prohibition applies as well to any action against a state by one of its own citizens.
The motion asks the court to dismiss Lanez's claims without giving his attorneys an opportunity to amend the complaint.

Callum Turner is revealing a piece of wisdom George Clooney shared with him as he started to become a Hollywood leading man.
"Every time I get to be in a movie and then being able to celebrate a film with everyone here, I always watch the premiere," he told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the Aug. 3 premiere of his new movie "One Night Only" in New York City.
The "Eternity" actor, 36, explained that after he worked with Clooney, 65, on the 2023 film "The Boys in the Boat," they attended multiple premieres together. By the third, Turner decided he would go home after the red carpet before the "Ocean's Eleven" star convinced him to stay.
"He went, 'Why are you leaving?' And I said, 'Well, because I've seen it already, and twice,' and he said, Yeah, but you'll never get this opportunity again,'" Turner explained. "This is the moment to celebrate, and celebrate the work, and the work of everyone on the crew and beyond. I love these moments. They're always pinch-me moments."
Clooney directed the biographical sports drama portraying the true story of the University of Washington rowing team competing for gold at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin at the height of the Great Depression. Turner played Joe Rantz, a strong rower who was abandoned by his father.

ESPN featured commentator and sports ****** yst Stephen A. Smith stepped into the WNBA's debate surrounding the inclusion of transgender athletes in women's sports Tuesday.
Smith launched an incensed rant against Cheryl Reeve, the head coach of the Minnesota Lynx. Reeve recently wore a shirt that read "Trans Kids Belong" while coaching a WNBA game.
"We gotta stop this. We gotta stop acting like somebody that's speaking up on behalf of girls, like the Sophie Cunninghams, like the Riley Gaineses, are scourges of the earth. You are Cheryl Reeve, the head coach of the Minnesota Lynx. That is an irresponsible thing to do," Smith said.
He continued:
You are a coach for a female basketball team. Do you not think that the females are being screwed over if they have to compete against an individual born as a male? What are you talking about? What are you talking about? Trying to tell me that a college player, a man, at a college program anywhere in the country, or an NBA player, should transition to being a woman and be allowed to compete in the WNBA? On a collegiate level to a women's college program, whether it's UConn, South Carolina, Iowa, Tennessee, or wherever else you want to come up with. What the ****** are you talking about? Big Ten Media Days wrapped up last week and with the annual trek to Chicago came the media projections for each and every team in the conference.
We noted in our rundown last week that Iowa had three pre-season All-Big Ten nominees in offensive linemen Kade Pieper and Trevor Lauck, as well as defensive back Zach Lutmer, who also garnered votes for defensive player of the year in the conference. They were joined by TE DJ Vonnahme, who earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten.
As for the team overall, they were picked to finish 8th in the conference according to the media.
But the media doesn't always know what they're talking about (unless, of course, they're fan media on ablog, then they are always right about everything) and when it comes to perception of the Iowa Hawkeyes, that can be especially true. After one day without an audience, the New England Patriots returned to the fields behind Gillette Stadium on Tuesday for their ninth practice of training camp. The fans were treated to an entertaining session.

The deep passing game: Kayshon Boutte, A.J. Brown and Mack Hollins, the biggest top-level receivers on New England's roster, made several big plays on Tuesday. Their stat lines show how involved they were: Boutte caught a team-leading five passes in team drills, followed by Brown and Hollins hauling in four receptions each.
Boutte did most of his damage against the second-string defense, and remains the factual WR4 behind Brown, Romeo Doubs and DeMario Douglas, but it is clear just how much trust both Drake Maye and Tommy DeVito have in him. He rewarded that trust with multiple downfield receptions on Tuesday — including in both QB's two-minute drill situations.
The same was true for Hollins, whose most notable play was a deep sideline shot from DeVito for what would have been a 40-plus-yard touchdown in a true game setting. Overall, the veteran has been productive the last two days and continues to be a key target in select situations.

On Friday afternoon, a preliminary injunction granted by a Colorado U.S. District Court judge gave athletes from the 2022 high school class a fifth season of eligibility, creating another transfer portal opportunity window in August.
This is something that the Kentucky Basketball staff has been monitoring as an avenue to add the 15th and final player to the roster.
One name that the Wildcats have monitored is Auburn transfer Keyshawn Hall. According to a source, Kentucky conducted a Zoom call with Hall on Monday.
Hall has played for four schools in four seasons. Starting his career at UNLV, he has since played for George Mason, UCF, and Auburn last season.
While at Auburn, Hall averaged 19.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game on 45/38/86 shooting clips, with a 60.6 true shooting percentage. The 6-foot-7 wing could bring versatility and shot creation at the 4 spot. He can even play the 3 in big lineups.

Tom Izzo has a clear idea of who will be starting at power forward for the Spartans this season. But he wouldn't completely commit to that spot being locked down during a recent interview.
Izzo joined national college basketball ****** yst Jon Rothstein on his show on Tuesday to discuss a number of things surrounding the Spartans and college basketball as a whole. During the interview, Izzo stated sophomore Cam Ward "should be" the starting power forward for the Spartans this season. But there's still room for improvement.
"(Ward) still gotta keep improving his shot," Izzo said during the interview. "But he's really improving his ability to put it on the floor, defend people and become a much better rebounder."
Michigan State has an opening at power forward with senior Jaxon Kohler not expected to be with the Spartans this upcoming season. He may end up having a fifth year of eligibility, but he is reportedly being pursued by BYU, Kansas and Kentucky as a transfer addition.
As a true freshman, Ward showed signs of being the next great Spartan at power forward. He ended the season averaging 5.1 points, 4.2 rebound and 0.5 blocks across roughly 15 minutes per game.

Speaking to reporters before training camp practice following the team's first padded session, Pittsburgh Steelers new head coach Mike McCarthy laid out his philosophy on building a dominant offensive line. He stressed that health, continuity, and roster depth are the true backbones of a championship season.
Before Wednesday's practice in Latrobe, in a video shared on X by reporter Chris Adamski, McCarthy highlighted a timeless league truth: cohesive offensive line play directly correlates with winning games.
"A lot of value there, a lot of talent," said McCarthy when asked about the pedigree of his offensive line. "I've always adhered to the statistics of how many consecutive starts that you have with your offensive line, it equates to winning and has for decades in our league. So, trying to establish the starting five is something you're always going through in training camp.
"Most importantly is the depth. I know recently we've played a lot of offensive linemen, that's why you hear me talk about position flexibility so much. It's critical, particularly in a 17-game season. I really like the group, but I think yesterday being the first day in pads is a real starting point of who we are and who we want to be."
Building a starting unit is only half the battle in a grueling schedule. As McCarthy noted, injuries are an inevitable reality of professional football. Success hinges on having reserves who can step in without disrupting the offensive flow.

Gracie is currently dating Irish actor Paul Mescal. She says before they got together, she had "far less experience sitting down to write when I was filled with security and joy and love and safety."
"And I was like, 'Oh, s***, how am I going to approach this?' Or, you know, 'How's it going to impact the quantity of songs I write?'" she continues. "And it's had the most amazing effect on my writing. It has given me the most amount of **** e to reflect on everything in my life."
She continues, "It has held a mirror to me in ways that I didn't know a relationship with another person of any kind could. It has given me all the perspective that I could have ever hoped for, on previous relationships, on my relationship with my family, on my friendships. It is the greatest gift, period."
The couple's relationship has put them under public scrutiny, even more than they were before. And while you'd think Gracie would be used to that, as the daughter of famed director JJ Abrams, that's not the case. She tells Rolling Stone that any time she spent in the public eye as a child was "very contained." She adds that she didn't even know what her father did for a living until her elementary school classmates asked her for insights on Lost, one of his shows.

George R.R. Martin's first piece of published writing in some time will not please fans hungry for a new volume in the author's A Song of Ice and Fire series — but it will somewhat explain the latest stumbling block in the 15 years since A Dance With Dragons came out. In a new blog, the author, 77, acknowledged that he had not published himself since February and went on to describe a year beset by challenges.
"This year has been… stressful, to say the least," he wrote. While he experienced great and even "exciting" things, including "dreams coming true," he wrote that proverbial nightmares had also haunted him. "I have lost friends," he wrote. "Battled sadness and depression. The worst may be yet to come. I turned 77 last September, and I tell you, getting old is no fun. But there have been amazing times as well.

Social media has recently been flooded with clips of pro athletes lamenting that their multimillion-dollar contracts don't go as far as people think. While such complaints can be easy to dunk on, the underlying point is important. The problem is the messenger.
The recent wave may have started with resurfaced clips of JJ Redick, one from February 2024 and another from March 2024, explaining how taxes and other costs can dramatically reduce a player's take-home pay.
"I think people should listen, because they're telling the truth," Chris Bosh recently told Front Office Sports. "And it's really interesting how people don't want to listen to that, but if I told you that player X is signing a three-year, $150 million deal, you'll believe it. It's not $150 million. That's what they're trying to get people to understand."
Financial advisors who work with athletes say the public often overestimates how wealthy professional athletes actually are, especially given taxes, short careers, and, in some cases, financial mismanagement.
"The general public ******* umption—which is that if you make it to the pros you are set for life—is far from true," says Perigon Wealth Management's head of sports and entertainment Marc Specht.

The Atlanta Braves came into this year's trade deadline needing to upgrade their starting rotation. It's been a banged-up unit, and they cannot rely on Chris Sale and the current options for a World Series run.
They wound up adding Tyler Mahle, but a true bona fide ace would've been a major upgrade for this club. Unfortunately, no such trade happened. But it wasn't for a lack of effort. In fact, it might not even be the Braves' fault that they missed on an ace.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Braves made a serious push to acquire Jacob deGrom from the Texas Rangers. With the Rangers willing to make such a trade, the only reason it fell through was thanks to deGrom and his no-trade clause.
"The Braves informed the Rangers of their desire to land deGrom, according to people briefed on the discussions who were offered anonymity for their candor," Rosenthal reports. "The Rangers told deGrom if he wanted to waive his no-trade clause for Atlanta, they would make a deal happen, source said, but deGrom said no, explaining that he wanted to win in Texas."

With Falcons running back Bijan Robinson getting a new contract that pushes the new-money APY at the position from $20.6 million to $22.25 million, Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs has acquired an important data point for his own talks.
Will Gibbs try to match Robinson's number? Will Gibbs try to beat it? Will Gibbs try to blow it away?
It's no coincidence that the initial reporting on the Robinson deal spoke not in terms of the new-money APY of $22.25 million but the maximum value of $25 million per year. Given the overall skillsets and impacts of Robinson and Gibbs, both should have been trying to get to at least $25 million per year in new-money APY.
Robinson will get there only if he hits the targets for the various incentives and/or escalators. Gibbs still has a chance to get there with his base APY.
And when it comes to the new-money APY — a sort-of fugazi way to value contracts but the accepted norm used throughout the league (except when it leads to ridiculous results) — the old money becomes a factor. Remember, there are no true extensions. Robinson's new three-year deal wonn't get stapled onto the end of his two remaining years. He'll have a brand-new five-year deal, which folds the existing cash from 2026 and 2027 into 2028, 2029, and 2030.

Weeks before the Freedom 250 Grand Prix hits the streets of Washington DC, organizers announced a major change to help celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States.
Spectators going to the Aug. 23 race in DC will now get 18% more action, as 22 laps were added to the race.
Why did they make the change — and what can spectators expect for what's being called a "once-in-a-lifetime" race? Here's what to know.
The grand prix is going from 125 laps to 147 laps, meaning the race will now be 250 miles.
"With America celebrating 250 years of freedom and innovation in 2026, it is only fitting that the Freedom 250 Grand Prix will be a true 250-mile race," Bud Denker, Chairman of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, said in a press release. "The additional laps will create even more opportunities for strategy, on-track action and late-race drama while giving our fans extra value and even more opportunities to enjoy this historic event."

Bill O'Reilly revealed that he is tormented by a conversation with President Donald Trump before the Iran War in which he warned the commander in chief that the conflict would be the "biggest gamble" he would ever take.

At least someone recognizes the Denver Broncos' true place in the NFL power rankings.
In a 1-32 NFL pre-training camp power ranking list compiled by Josh Kendall of The Atlantic, the Broncos are ranked as the second-best team in the league, behind only the Los Angeles Rams. Denver ranked two spots ahead of the 2025 AFC champion New England Patriots, and three spots higher than the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. The Buffalo Bills rounded out the top five, coming in at No. 3.
Denver will face the Rams and Seahawks within the first six weeks of the season, as well as facing the Bills and Patriots consecutively at the end of the year in Weeks 16 and 17. Three of those games are primetime, nationwide matchups.
In his rankings, Kendall also listed one "new thing" about each team. For the Broncos, it was the switch from Payton to offensive coordinator Davis Webb on the offensive headset.
"Head coach Sean Payton turned over play-calling duties to 31-year-old offensive coordinator Davis Webb in the offseason, either as a guard against Webb taking another job or because of a legitimate belief that it will improve the offense," Kendall wrote. "It's going to be hard to improve on Payton in that area, though. The good news is they added wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and have a defense full of pit bulls."

Now that the Major League Baseball trade deadline has come and gone, the focus shifts from speculation to evaluation.
And from where I sit, it's hard not to view the Astros' deadline as a massive disappointment.
If the reports are true that Dana Brown could be on his way out at the end of the season regardless of how this year ends, then this deadline felt less like a calculated baseball strategy and more like a last-ditch attempt to save his job.
The Astros' biggest move was sending Spencer Arrighetti, a young starting pitcher with three years of team control, in exchange for outfielder Daulton Varsho, a player who can walk away after the season. Houston also took a chance on a veteran who enjoyed an outstanding campaign a year ago but has been a shell of that player for much of this season.
That's not the type of aggressive move a first-place team should be making.

To end the 2025-26 season, Luka Doncic was on a high, performing at an unreal level. Unfortunately, that all came down after he suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out for the end of the regular season and both rounds of the Los Angeles Lakers' postseason run.
It was a huge blow for the Lakers because with the way he was playing, no one could stop him. Now that he has taken some time to fully rest, it seems Doncic has no more problems with his hamstring or any other part of his body. He is ready to take on the challenge of being the true superstar in LA.
As one of the most talented players in the league, it is fair for Doncic to be in the headlines all the time. He is on the same level as the MVP-level players like Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and he is doing it in the Purple and Gold.
When he was healthy, Doncic was playing arguably the best basketball of his career. He was dominant on offense with his scoring and playmaking, which helped the Lakers reach a level where they could compete with the best teams in the league.

That is, not the fame of the event or its winner or the venue, but the tingly excellence of the event itself.

After completing his move from Manchester City earlier this summer, the Portuguese international took part in his first training session under José Mourinho on Monday before sitting down with Real Madrid TV to reflect on joining the Spanish giants, his excitement about working with Mourinho, and the opportunity to represent the club he considers the biggest in world football.
Silva admitted that wearing the Real Madrid crest is something special, describing his arrival as a dream come true.
