Patrick Mahomes was back in the lineup for Week 1. And he showed in the Kansas City Chiefs' first drive that he's all the way back.
Any concern about Mahomes' mobility coming off a torn ACL was quelled right away. After Bo Nix threw an interception to start the Denver Broncos' night, the Chiefs went on a long drive that was mostly Kenneth Walker III rushes. But when Mahomes needed to make a play with his legs he did so. Twice.
Mahomes ran for a touchdown but it was called back due to holding. It was still good to see Mahomes scrambling and getting into the end zone. Then on the next play, he did it again from further out.
Mahomes scrambled and ran up the middle for a 15-yard score. There had to be some worry on the sideline as he took off, but Mahomes made it to give the Chiefs a 7-0 lead. DARIEN - St. Joseph football coach Joe Della Vecchia smiled a bit when he was asked about senior Jake Rios.
"Bugs Bunny?" he said of the guy who can seemingly do it all for the Hogs.
Rios was in that cartoon mode once again, and was part of a shutdown defensive performance when No. 4-ranked St. Joseph defeated Darien 28-7 on opening night Thursday.
Rios caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from senior Jack Mooney, one of three long TD throws from the quarterback, consistently stymied Darien's special teams with kickoffs into the end zone, and even put a punt at the 1-yard line, which helped lead to a touchdown four plays later.
"He does a lot," Della Vecchia said. "He's kicking off into the end zone, he was big for field position, he's a great punter. There are a lot of things he does that you don't see in the stat sheet. He's big for us every week."

Paulo Costa is stirring things up once again, calling out the UFC for refusing to book him in a ***** le fight for UFC 332.
UFC 332 goes down on October 3rd from Salt Lake City and is being headlined by a vacant women's flyweight ***** le fight between Natalia Silva and ***** Cong. Not only is that an extremely underwhelming fight to put atop a major numbered card, the UFC had record breaking women's 125 champ Valentina Shevchenko relinquish her ***** le so Silva vs. Cong would be for a belt.
According to Costa, none of this had to be. He was ready to fight at UFC 332 for an interim light heavyweight ***** le, but the promotion refused to do it.
"UFC could put LHW interim belt in line for this," Costa wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "I told them but they refused to, so *shrug*"

Sep. 2—MOSCOW, Idaho — Losing to fellow Big Sky Conference member Cal Poly, 38-34, on a final-seconds touchdown pass on 4th and 8, in the season-opening game was a rude shock for Idaho, which, based on its 5-0 all-time record against the Mustangs and Cal Poly's recent reputation as a Big Sky speed ***** p had pretty much penciled this in as a win.
The defining game for the Vandals this year was supposed to be the home clash against defending Football Championship Subdivision Montana State Oct 2. But now the Vandals are already in damage control mode, needing to make a good showing against Football Bowl Subdivision Utah on Thursday to convince themselves, more than anyone, that they are a good team, better than their 4-8 record last year and their season-opening stumble, and still harboring hopes of making the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. This is all on Idaho. Utah has nothing to prove other than it can handle an FCS team.
Here are three things to watch when the Vandals and Utes collide.

Beat writer Alec Lewis reports that while the Vikings hoped McCarthy's ankle would heal in time for the game, the young quarterback was "not comfortable enough to go." The injury is considered minor, and the team considers him day-to-day.
It's unclear if the Vikings' training staff had any say in McCarthy's availability.

The future of Arizona Cardinals linebacker Josh Sweat has been discussed a lot this offseason. Trade rumors came up this week with the Cardinals in Green Bay for a joint practice and their preseason finale, and it happened to be the week that Sweat finally came off the PUP list. Reading have been drawn to play Brentford in the Carabao Cup third round and for fans, there are two very different responses to this draw…

We've got some history against them and it should be a really good night out. Let's be grateful the tie's at home, so there won't be too much of a knock on to the following Saturday's league game.

The Philadelphia Eagles will give fans an opportunity to watch the team work at Lincoln Financial Field as preparations continue for Friday's preseason finale against the Cincinnati Bengals. With most of Philadelphia's established starters unlikely to play Friday, the open practice could provide the best remaining look at Jalen Hurts and the first-team units before the regular-season opener against the Washington Commanders.
Here are the biggest storylines Eagles fans should follow.
Philadelphia is trending toward having its top three receivers available for Week 1. DeVonta Smith and rookie Makai Lemon were full participants Monday, while Dontayvion Wicks has continued working with the starting offense.
The open practice should offer another opportunity to evaluate their timing with Hurts. Lemon missed valuable time with a hamstring injury, making every rep important as he adjusts to the offense and builds chemistry with Philadelphia's starting quarterback.
The Eagles continue listing Dalton and McKee together behind Hurts, but their preseason production has been significantly different. McKee completed 16 of 22 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns against New England. Dalton has struggled to generate consistent offense during his preseason opportunities. Philadelphia's coaches have stressed that the decision will be based on the complete body of work. How the repetitions are divided during open practice could offer another clue about the competition.

The 22-year-old spoke about giving back and continuing to improve as a player, but according to a report from the event, he declined to comment when asked about his unresolved contract with Detroit.
The decision to stay quiet comes at an increasingly uncomfortable point in negotiations.
Just one day earlier, the latest report on Duren's contract talks detailed ESPN insider Tim MacMahon's concerns about how contentious the process has become. It's really something to see a true one-of-one. The first time it really stuck, it really happened to me, was Usain Bolt in 2008 in Beijing. With all due respect to what Michael Phelps did in those Olympics, there's something primal about the 100m dash, something we've been doing as a species since Urk bragged to Gru he could get to that rock over there first. It was quite something for 14-year-old Joshua to see the seven fastest men in the world three steps behind this freak — and I say that with the utmost admiration.
Of course Bolt did that two more times in those Games, then broke his own record at the World Championships in Berlin a year later—still the fastest time ever recorded—and then in London, and just for good measure took home the gold in the 100m and 200m in Rio in 2016. The greatest sprinter of all time and a 100th-percentile outcome for what the human body can be. Bolt went out with a whimper though, pulling up lame in the 4x100m relay final at the 2017 World Championships. A hamstring injury mid-race spelled the end of one of sports' great, fiery comets.

Before this series, the Dodgers hadn't scored at least six runs in consecutive games since June 29-30. The Atlanta Dream and the WNBA are in the hot seat after security staff at Sunday night's game in Atlanta had a confrontation with two women wearing XX-XY Athletics shirts.
The much-anticipated game brought the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark to Atlanta to face Angel Reese and the Dream, ending in a close 95-91 Fever overtime win.
But much of the heat appeared to happen off the court as a Georgia mom and her daughter were told by security staff to cover the shirts or be escorted out of the game with two and a half minutes left in overtime, the family told Fox News. They were told the shirts were offensive to other fans.
Sunday's game was marketed as "Wellness & Health Night," complete with shirts for fans. State Farm Arena policy also prohibits "clothing, garments or signs displaying explicit language, profanity or derogatory characterization of any person(s)."
