ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons' opening loss at Pittsburgh only added more uncertainty to the quarterback question that has persisted since the start of training camp.
Cooper Rush's performance in the Falcons' 20-13 loss to the Steelers on Sunday had some fans wondering why undrafted rookie Jack Strand wasn't given an opportunity and more fans asking when Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa will be ready to play. Rush threw two interceptions, including T.J. Watt's pick-6 in the fourth quarter. He completed 12 of 22 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown.
Rush was named the starter on Friday after Tagovailoa was ruled out with an oblique injury. Rush started despite having back spasms on Saturday. On September 9, reports emerged that the company is prepared to spend as much as $2 billion to acquire Listen Labs, an AI-powered customer research platform.
The potential deal would extend Salesforce's aggressive M&A strategy as the company seeks to expand its generative and agentic AI capabilities. Salesforce recently completed its approximately $3.6 billion acquisition of customer service AI agent provider Fin, formerly Intercom, underscoring management's willingness to use acquisitions to accelerate its AI roadmap.
Listen Labs could add a new layer of customer intelligence to Salesforce's platform. The company uses artificial intelligence to conduct customer interviews through audio and video and ******* yze the resulting responses.

The potential acquisition could be particularly valuable for Salesforce Agentforce, the company's platform for building and deploying AI agents. Listen Labs could end up providing crucial insights into why customers behave the way they do. Customer interviews and conversations can reveal motivations, preferences, frustrations, and other qualitative information that may not be captured in traditional CRM databases.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are elevating defensive back Doneiko Slaughter to the active roster, the team announced on Saturday. Slaughter had a tremendous training camp and preseason with Pittsburgh and was one of the final cuts before being placed on the practice squad.
The only player to appear on the Steelers' injury report this week has been cornerback Joey Porter Jr, who continues to work his way back after missing all of training camp and preseason play. Porter was placed on the PUP list at the start of camp due to what the team said was a back injury, but the speculation is that it was a hold-in under the guise of an injury.
The Steelers will begin their season at 1:00 EST against the Atlanta Falcons.

Nippert Stadium has hosted night football games dating back to 1923's 17-0 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan.
The tradition continues as the Cincinnati Bearcats host the Western Carolina Catamounts, an FCS team that last played here in 2005. Since 2000, UC is 20-0 vs. FCS competition. Dating back to 2006, when UC knocked off then-No. 7 Rutgers under the lights 30-11, the Bearcats are 39-16 in "Nipp at Night" games.
This is the second of four straight games in Cincinnati for the 1-0 Bearcats. Next week, they're at TQL Stadium for "The Battle for the Victory Bell" vs. the Miami RedHawks. UC finishes the stretch Sept. 26 with their opening Big 12 game against Kansas State.

Justin Verlander already knows when the Detroit Tigers will celebrate his career.
What he still does not know is whether he will get to finish it where he wants to finish it: standing on a Major League mound.
Verlander is expected to throw off a mound Saturday as he continues working back from left hip inflammation and a left hamstring strain, according to MLB's latest Tigers injury update. If his body responds, the 43-year-old could advance to a rehab ***** ignment and potentially pitch for Detroit before his retirement becomes official at the end of the season.
That makes Saturday considerably more important than a routine September bullpen session.
Verlander has already announced that 2026 will be his final season. Detroit has already planned the goodbye.

Brooke Hogan has spent the past year insisting there is more to the Hogan family story than what has played out publicly. Now, she says she has screenshots that could explain part of it.
The 38-year-old issued a "final warning" to her family after another public clash with her mother, Linda Hogan, threatening to release private communications if her name continues to be brought into their ongoing family dispute.
"This 👌 close to breaking out some screenshots—which are ONE of the many reasons WHY," Brooke wrote on Instagram Stories. "I don't take CONSTANTLY dragging my name through the mud lightly."

High school football is in full swing across the country. The Gophers' 29 commits in the class of 2027 were busy, and here are the most notable performances from the Week of Sep. 7-12. Last week's top performers.
The star-studded Spuds had another impressive 42-26 win over Woodbury in their second game of the season. Quarterback Jett Feeney went 15 of 20 for 206 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. Wide receiver David Mack had five receptions for 76 yards and DB/WR Zak Walker had an 88-yard kick return. Running back Taye Reich had the best game of the four with 12 carries for 177 rushing yards and 3 total touchdowns.

Las Vegas, Nevada native Jayden Thomas continues to have a red-hot start to his senior season. He had three receptions for 87 yards this week, and his season-long total is now up to 28 catches for 591 yards and 6 touchdowns through five games.
Maryland native Carlos Ferguson probably had the best performance from the wide receivers this week with 7 receptions for 92 yards and 2 TDs. He now has 18 catches for 257 yards and 3 touchdowns through three games. Texas native Kevin Ferrygood also had a 20-yard touchdown. First-year wide receivers coach Isaac Fruechte's class looks promising.

R&B singer Bilal is facing allegations from Jamila Raegan, the mother of his adult son Bashir, who claims the artist has left her to handle their son's care alone. In an emotional Instagram post, Raegan also accused Bilal, whose full name is Bilal Oliver, of abuse and said she had protected him for more than half her life. "I'm not okay because I've spent over half of my life protecting an abuser," she wrote before identifying the singer by name.
Raegan said Bashir has multiple disabilities, including autism and bipolar disorder, and claimed Bilal has shown "complete disregard" while she manages their son's needs. "I am caring for him alone while his father continues to live his life," she wrote.
Raegan did not detail what **** istance she believes Bilal has withheld or provide specific information about her abuse allegation in the post.
