As expected, Micah Parsons is starting training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as he continues to recover from an ACL tear.
The Green Bay Packers placed him on the PUP list Tuesday. But there was reporting Tuesday that should get Packers fans and football fans in general excited.
Per The Athletic's Packers beat writer, Matt Schneidman, the timeline points to a good chance that Parsons returns for a Week 6 showdown against his former Dallas Cowboys on "Sunday Night Football." ***** uming that both teams are playing competitive football by then, that would add up to a must-watch game for NFL fans.
Parsons tore his ACL in Week 15 on Dec. 12 last season against the Denver Broncos. He had surgery on Dec. 30. Per Schneidman, the Packers have a strict "nine-month no-football rule" after an ACL tear, which would place him back on the practice field at the earliest on Sept. 30, four days before a Week 4 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
That timeline would give Parsons roughly 2 ½ weeks to ramp up for Green Bay's Oct. 18 home game against the Cowboys. And that's what Schneidman expects to happen.

According to them, he has done everything he has needed to do this off-season to prepare and get healthy, but when asked about what his message has been to Kyler Gordon, Ben Johnson succinctly said: "Get healthy."
A healthy Kyler goes a long way for this team. But your best ability is availability, so it remains to be seen if he sees out his recently inked contract just a year ago.
Joining Kyler on PUP are TJ Edwards, Elijah Hicks, Keyshaun Elliott, and Montez Sweat, but none of them are expected to be long-term.

WR Kayshon Boutte: Boutte continues to make big plays on a daily basis. On Tuesday, his biggest moment came when he caught a deep touchdown from Drake Maye during 11-on-11s. Lining up in his typical spot as an X-receiver, the fourth-year man was able to get a step on safety Kevin Byard on a go route and showed some tremendous ball tracking and concentration skills to complete the over-the-shoulder catch for a score of 40-plus yards.
It was not Boutte's only reception on the day. He also caught a throw from Maye over the middle during 7-on-7s and added pair of catches when backup Tommy DeVito targeted him on out routes. It was an active day for a player who, through four practices, has been New England's most impactful wide receiver.
QB Drake Maye: The Patriots' quarterback started a bit slowly and his connection with A.J. Brown remains a work in progress, but he overall had a good day — an encouraging development after struggling with accuracy during the last full-speed practice on Sunday. Maye got into a rhythm during 11-on-11s, finding Boutte on his long touchdowns and also connecting with Hunter Henry and Rhamondre Stevenson for long completions.

CHICAGO – When the House settlement took effect last year, schools could directly share revenue with athletes with a cap in place. That limit doesn't include third-party NIL deals, though, and roster costs continue to increase in college football.
Speaking Tuesday at Big Ten Media Days, USC coach Lincoln Riley spoke in favor of a "true salary cap" in college sports. While he said the landscape is beginning to stabilize a bit, that would make things even better.

Riley noted the discussions around the state of college sports as the NIL era continues to evolve. He doesn't see the craziness being as much of an issue as others on the outside, though. Instead, he argued things are getting better, though he said a salary cap would further help.
"I've always been one, like, I don't want to have less than somebody has," Riley told reporters at the Hilton Chicago. "But I don't necessarily have to have more. I just don't want to be at some massive, massive disadvantage, if you're trying to win a championship. I will say this, despite the perception outside, it has normalized a lot in the last few years.

Ryder System is seeing more opportunities surface for its dedicated transportation solutions segment as capacity continues to exit the market, executives shared during the company's Q2 earnings call held July 23.
Operating revenue for the segment fell 3% year over year in Q2, but Ryder expects its fleet count to turn positive in Q4 or early 2027 as sales activity strengthens.
"Our pipelines are at record levels for us right now," CEO John Diez said during the call. "We've seen a number of opportunities come back where customers have been running their transportation with for-hire carriers, and they're looking for dedicated capacity and coming back to us."
Ryder's dedicated transportation solutions business — which provides customers with dedicated fleets, drivers and transportation services under longer-term contracts — is seeing demand improve although the recovery has yet to translate into fleet growth.

NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas has thrown his weight behind Indian batting icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, insisting that both veterans still have plenty left in the tank and should be part of India's squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The legendary Pakistan batter, popularly known as the 'Asian Bradman', dismissed concerns surrounding the duo's age and said their skill, experience and continued ability to score runs make them automatic contenders for the marquee tournament, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

"Both are very, very good in terms of skill and, given their experience, I don't see any reason why they should not play the World Cup. Age should not be a factor as long as they are fit and continue scoring runs," news agency PTI quoted Zaheer as saying on a Pakistani television channel.
Zaheer, regarded as one of Pakistan's finest batters after scoring more than 100 first-class centuries during his illustrious career, believes Kohli and Rohit possess qualities that only grow stronger with time.

According to the former Pakistan skipper, scoring runs becomes second nature for players of their calibre after spending years at the highest level, while their experience remains invaluable in major ICC tournaments.

He also ******* sed the fitness of the two Indian greats, saying Kohli continues to maintain exceptional physical standards.

"Kohli is still supremely fit, while Rohit just needs to pay a little more attention to his fitness," Zaheer observed.

The Chicago Bears are back at Halas Hall for the start of training camp, with the first practice set to take place on Wednesday. Before the players hit the field, though, general manager Ryan Poles met with the media on Tuesday to discuss a number of topics, including injuries, position battles, and more.
One notable topic is the possibility of extending right tackle Darnell Wright, who became eligible for a new deal this offseason. Wright has been the entrenched starter since coming into the league as the No. 10 overall pick in 2023 and is coming off his best season as a pro.
Poles acknowledged the Bears want Wright to be with the team long-term but stated it takes two sides to get a deal done and the window is limited. "There's a window to get a deal done. At some point, we have to go play football. So we will figure that out. Darnell is a guy we want here for the long term," Poles said via Bear Report's Zack Pearson. He also maintained that Wright needs to play with more consistency going into 2026. "We see the flashes and stacks of plays he puts together. He needs to be consistent day-in, day-out," he said via Shaw Media's Michal Dwojak.
Wright played in 16 games last season and allowed just three sacks, three QB hits, and 19 pressures. His main issue continues to be penalties, which he had 12 of in 2025. Still, Wright earned Second-Team All-Pro for his play on the offensive line and, at 24 years old, is just hitting his prime. The Bears did pick up Wright's fifth-year option, ensuring he remains with the Bears through the 2027 season. Hopefully the two sides come to an agreement sooner rather than later to keep him around longer than that.

Former Florida baseball pitcher Franco Aleman is just starting his professional career. He is proving himself to be a solid option as a rookie in the Guardians' bullpen so far in the 2026 campaign.
Aleman's rise through the minor leagues has showcased his potential as a reliever, with his ball velocity and strikeout ability making him a valuable **** et for Cleveland. UNC is entering the first year of the Michael Malone era as he replaces Hubert Davis. Now, Malone has the task of turning this program around and getting it to where it needs to be. Malone and his staff have built the roster using returning players, the 2026 recruiting class, and a good transfer portal class.
UNC's backcourt should be strong, but there are some concerns regarding their height. The Tar Heels were able to add some frontcourt players, but it likely won't be a strength for them. CBS Sports **** yst Isaac Trotter wrote on the Tar Heels, and he has some concerns about their post depth:
I'm getting nervous about UNC's big man situation. 7-footer Sayon Keita is still not on campus as he wades through all the eligibility red tape. I'm in on Matt Able and freshman Maximo Adams, but UNC could have some hairy moments with this frontcourt. I think UNC is more of a top-30ish team than a top-15 unit nationally.

Global equities ended last week little changed in local currency and up 0.6% in sterling terms. This continued the choppy pattern of recent weeks with markets currently down 1.5-2% from their peak in early June. The US underperformed with a gain of 0.3% in sterling terms while the UK and emerging markets were both up around 1.3%.
Meanwhile, government bonds in the US and UK both lost 0.5% with yields re-testing their highs in early May. 10-year UK gilt yields tested 5.1% while US yields reached 4.7%, before retreating a bit.
The war with Iran was centre stage with renewed attacks by both sides and Trump once again upping his threats. The new ingredient this time was that concerns were not limited to the Strait of Hormuz but extended to the Bab El Mandeb Strait with the Houthis exchanging blows with Saudi Arabia and threatening to close the waterway.
The importance of this new chokepoint is two-fold. First, it threatens Saudi's ability to divert via its pipeline a good part of its oil production to the Red Sea rather than the Strait of Hormuz. But it is back down to $88pb this morning as negotiations between the US and Iran started up once again over the weekend, easing fears of a major escalation. However, this morning, Iran said it is not seeking new peace talks, so the confusion continues.
Even so, the fact remains that Trump appears to have chickened out yet again – be it because the hike in oil prices has pushed US gasoline prices back above $4 per gallon, the rise in US Treasury yields has caused concerns or because, as has been reported, the US lacks the necessary munitions.

"Outside the pool I dream of a future where brain cancer isn't the biggest killer of those under 40, where the UK government establishes a brain cancer lead to make that change," he said. "I'd much prefer that change is made, and that dream is completed, than any of my personal goals in the pool because what families and young people are going through out there is really beyond the comprehension of many people out there and certainly harder than anything I've had to do as a world-class sportsman."
