The Arizona Cardinals, after a day off on Monday, were back at practice at State Farm Stadium on Tuesday. The pads went on and quarterback Jacoby Brissett took over first-team reps with the offense.

While Paris Johnson has been activated, there is nothing new with the other three players. Josh Sweat, Garrett Williams and Tip Reiman still haven't been cleared to practice.

When the New York Jets acquired Geno Smith this offseason, the conversation immediately shifted to the quarterback. Would they get the version who revitalized his career in Seattle Seahawks? Through nine years, Garrett has 125.5 career sacks. The record for the most sacks in a player's first 10 seasons is 145, set by Reggie White in his 10th NFL season, in 1994. So if Garrett gets 20 sacks this season, he'll break White's record.
It's worth noting that the record has an asterisk: Official NFL records for a player's sack total have only been recorded since 1982. Deacon Jones has the unofficial record, with 155 sacks in his first 10 seasons.
Garrett set the NFL record for sacks in a season last year, when he had 23. So a 20-sack season is possible for him this year.

The Rams were among the favorites for Super Bowl LXIII before they traded for Myles Garrett in June and acquiring the defensive player of the year has only pushed expectations for the coming season higher in Los Angeles.
Head coach Sean McVay acknowledged those expectations at the start of training camp while noting that "there's a lot of stuff in the midst of the journey that we don't control." McVay wants the Rams to prioritize the things they do control when it comes to preparing for the season and quarterback Matthew Stafford was in a similar frame of mind when he spoke to reporters on Monday.
Stafford said he wants the team to focus on improving their baseline level of play rather than thinking about how high they can climb if everything falls into place.
"We can't help but make each other better, [but] pieces of paper and names on a roster, those don't win football games," Stafford said, via Greg Beacham of the ******* ociated Press. "Teams and players and groups do. . . . Sean said it the other night, we've got potentially a high ceiling, right? We've got great players that have done a lot in this league. What can we do to continue to raise our floor, so if I'm off a little bit, we can still go find a way to win a football game? If our defense is off a little bit, we can still find a way to go win a football game. Continuing to raise that floor is something that's going to be a huge part of our journey this season."
There are a number of ways that a talented team can get thrown off track over the course of an NFL season. Unfortunately, he's not fully healthy, and it sounds like he hasn't been in quite some time.
After sitting out practice on Monday, the Rams' second session of training camp, Young told reporters that he's still nursing a knee injury that's bothered him "for years." Young says he's "feeling real good," but he spent his offseason managing his knee with the Rams' training staff.
"It's been good," Young said of his offseason. "I've just been nursing up my knee. That was a process. They've got a good plan for me in place."
Young was asked about the recovery plan for his knee, and he says he and the Rams are going to take it "day by day." He practiced on Sunday and then sat out Monday's practice, but he plans to be back on the field "in a couple of days."

The road trip for the Brewers started out with the offense mostly silent. They were shut out by the Giants 3-0 on Monday, the fifth time they have been shut out all season. However, it's also the second time it's happened in the last six games.
Scoring chances were very limited tonight. The first came in the second inning. Jake Bauers hit a one-out single, then Andrew Vaughn drew a walk following a challenge. It set up an early scoring chance, but Garrett Mitchell grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Meanwhile, Brandon Sproat worked through the first two innings scoreless, but did have to work around a couple situations. In the first, Heliot Ramos hit a fly ball to right, and Bauers appeared to have an easy catch. However, it bounced out of his glove, and Ramos reached second on the error. Ramos would steal third, but Sproat kept him there with a strikeout and groundout.

Jacksonville's Garrett Scantling captured the decathlon at the USA Track & Field Toyota Outdoor Championships, returning to the top of the grueling 10-event test of all-around athletic prowess for the first time in four years.
Scantling, a graduate of Episcopal High School (now Episcopal School of Jacksonville), recorded 8,526 total points over two days of competition at Icahn Stadium in New York.
He finished 95 clear of runner-up Kyle Garland, the world bronze medalist in 2025. Hakim McMorris came in third, 214 behind Scantling.
Consistency made the difference for Scantling, who placed sixth or higher in the first nine events, including first-place finishes in the long jump, shot put, 110-meter hurdles and javelin throw. Despite losing some ground in the final laps of the deciding 1,500-meter run, traditionally his weakest event, Scantling still found enough in the tank to run a ninth-place 4:43.78 and preserve his overall position atop the standings.
The July 24 triumph for Scantling, now 33, marks a milestone in his comeback to the sport.

Sports Illustrated ranked Garrett as the NFL's best edge rusher entering 2026.

The Los Angeles Rams revealed their new alternate uniforms on Thursday, displaying two looks that are throwbacks to the past. One pays homage to the 1950s teams in Los Angeles, and the other is a nod to the "Fearsome Foursome."
Inspiring a new generation with a look back to the past, here are three observations of the uniforms.
When I first saw the all-white uniform, it conjured images of snowy Chicago and how the Rams' white road uniforms blended in so nicely with the snow. It's a sleek look that would look amazing, should the Rams once again be forced to go on the road in the postseason.
What really takes it over the top is the white horns. An homage to the past, the way the white pops off the blue really shows off the entire look.
As the all-white jersey pays respect to the Rams before the NFL-AFL merger, the current defensive line took a picture honoring the original foursome that defined the look in the 60s and 70s. The current crop of fans may not have been able to enjoy watching the likes of Merlin Olsen, Deacon Jones, Lamar Lundy, and Rosey Grier dominate in their time, but Myles Garrett, Kobie Turner, Braden Fiske, Byron Young, and potentially Aaron Donald should be able to emulate that feeling this season.

But it wasn't long before a group known for its lack of braggadocio – and perhaps star power – became somewhat of an afterthought.

The Los Angeles Rams would welcome defensive tackle Aaron Donald back "with open arms" if he decides to return to the field in 2026.
The Rams put themselves right back in the Super Bowl mix after trading for pass rusher Myles Garrett. That move immediately sparked a conversation about a possible return for Donald.
Donald, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl 56 champion, continues to spend time in Los Angeles, including with USC football, since stepping away from the Rams after the 2023 season.

The Arizona Cardinals reported for training camp on Wednesday, and then on Thursday, before their first practice, they made a few procedural moves with injuries. Per the NFL transaction report, four players were placed on the preseason PUP (physically unable to perform) list.
Two were not surprising. Two were.
Cornerback Garrett Williams and tight end Tip Reiman were placed on PUP for injuries that have been known for a while. Reiman is coming back from a serious ankle injury, and Williams tore his Achilles last December. Williams was never going to be able to start training camp. There was hope that Reiman could.
The other two were surprising — left tackle Paris Johnson and outside linebacker Josh Sweat.
Johnson had a knee injury at the end of last season but was healthy enough to practice in the offseason program. Sweat played every game last season and ended the year healthy. He didn't participate in the offseason program, but he wasn't there for the voluntary part, opting to work out on his own.

Mike Evans gives the San Francisco 49ers a legitimate No. 1 receiver for the first time in years, but Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr believes the move addresses two problems that go beyond the receiver room.
The first is Christian McCaffrey's rushing efficiency. San Francisco finished 30th in yards per carry last season — the first time a Kyle Shanahan-called offense has finished outside the top 10 in that stat since 2021. Orr connects that decline directly to how defenses have treated McCaffrey, who saw nearly 30% of his carries against eight-man boxes last year, one of the highest rates in the league.
Evans, Orr argues, should change that math. The 30-year-old drew double coverage on 35% of his routes last season, sixth-most among receivers league-wide. That kind of attention typically pulls a safety out of the box — and Orr believes teams have instead been shifting that extra defender toward stopping McCaffrey.
The idea is straightforward: if Evans forces a safety into coverage, the box in front of McCaffrey gets lighter, and the 49ers' rushing attack — long a staple of Shanahan's offense — gets back to functioning the way it has for most of his tenure.

Exemplifying their success is their status in CBS Sports' rankings of the best first-round picks since 2020. Despite only having one first-round pick from 2020 to 2025, their selection of Jared Verse was ranked 11th. Verse, a 2024 selection, won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He was the 19th selection in his class and the third-highest member (Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels) of his class in the rankings.
"The Rams' ******* ysis is easily the funniest of any in the NFL," wrote CBS Sports' Mike Renner. "They had only one first-round pick from 2020-25, and it was one of the best picks over that span, with Jared Verse checking in at No. 11 out of 191. CBS Sports recently released its annual rankings of every NFL team's offensive "triplets" (quarterback, running back, and primary pass catcher). It didn't take long for the disrespect to flow.
The Jets landed 29th overall. Only the Tennessee **** ans, the Miami Dolphins, and the Cleveland Browns were ranked lower, placing New York firmly in the bottom tier despite an offseason that brought meaningful changes to the offense.
The ranking featured discussion about Geno Smith at quarterback, Breece Hall at running back, and Garrett Wilson as the Jets' featured receiver. According to CBS Sports, much of the skepticism stems from Smith's disappointing 2025 campaign with the Las Vegas Raiders.
"The Jets fell six spots here despite replacing Justin Fields with Geno Smith. It feels like they're being punished for Smith's awful season in Las Vegas, which unfolded under horrendous circumstances in arguably the NFL's worst offensive environment. Before players report for training camp on Saturday, the Los Angeles Rams are treating season ticket members to a special event at SoFi Stadium on Thursday night. It’s a “Rams Revealed Live” show at the YouTube Theater within SoFi, where Matthew Stafford, Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie will all be in attendance, as will team executives.
At this event, the Rams will reveal not one new uniform, but two. They’ll unveil the two alternate uniforms they’ve been teasing, which will join their three other jerseys in the wardrobe to give them five total for 2026.
The team hasn’t shared any details about what the uniforms will look like, but players sure seem excited about them – and it appears at least one uniform will be getting a new helmet.

Garrett Crochet didn’t choose to come to Boston, but he did choose to stay here. After making just one start as a member of the Red Sox (on the road in Texas), Crochet signed a six-year contract extension to remain with the organization through at least 2030. He was a standout on the field in his first season with the team, and while he hasn’t been able to replicate that this season, he’s working to endear himself to the community by partnering with Sam Adams for the release of Crochet’s Pale Ale, which is on tap at bars, taprooms and restaurants in the New England area and available as part of the “Our City. Our Beer” variety pack.
“A big thing for me was ingraining myself in the Boston culture, and Sam Adams is really that to a T,” Crochet said.
He isn’t wrong. When the Scots descended upon Boston for the World Cup, they drank the Sam Adams Downtown Taproom out of Boston Lager. He’s also made a habit of dominating the Yankees. In four regular season starts, he’s posted a 3.29 ERA and a 36.8% strikeout rate, as well as 7.2 innings of one-run baseball in the postseason. I conducted the interview from a hotel room in Milwaukee while on a bachelor party, and joked that the bachelor was upset with Crochet for hurting his family team. Crochet apologized but quickly rescinded it upon learning that the bachelor is a Yankees fan.
Crochet hasn’t pitched since April, but the rotation has picked up the slack in his absence. That rotation is comprised largely of huge, left-handed pitchers. Each arm is different, but Payton Tolle, Connelly Early, Ranger Suarez, and Jake Bennett all come armed with a four-seam fastball, cutter/slider, and some kind of breaking ball. Crochet’s best utilized standing on the mound, but because of the similarities with his teammates, he’s able to contribute from the bench.
“There’s much more benefit to the eye test that goes on during a series,” Crochet said. “We’re playing three or four game series and it’s all lefties that we’re rolling out there, so it’s fun to watch … When a guy is in the middle of his start I’m not passing any information, you know, he went into today prepared ready to make the start and has all the information that he feels he needs to have success … if I think someone is really looking not good on the changeup, I think me and Tolle have a little bit more room to exploit [the changeup] given that other teams aren’t planning for it at all against us.”

Guernsey bowlers Rose Ogier and Alison Merrien got Guernsey's 2026 Commonwealth Games off to a good start as they won their opening match 2-0.
The duo beat the Isle of Man's Caroline Whitehead and Paula Garrett 5-1, 3-2 in their first women's pair's game in Glasgow.
"It's always nice to get one under your belt, it gives you confidence for the next one and we'll see what happens next," Merrien told BBC Radio Guernsey.
"We weren't sure what to expect, obviously they're good players in their own right.
"You've just got to go out and play your own game and we managed to play quite well today and come away with the win."

Aaron Donald continues to work out as he contemplates coming out of retirement, training both privately at the Los Angeles Rams' facility and at home in videos that he's been posting on Instagram.
Drew Brees has seen some of the workouts Donald has posted and it leaves no doubt in his mind that the All-Pro pass rusher could realistically return to the Rams. In an interview with USA TODAY Sports, Brees said he "absolutely" thinks there's a real chance Donald comes back because of the favorable situation he'd be put in.
"I do. I absolutely do," Brees said. "I absolutely do because first off, I've watched the guy on Instagram and he looks like he's staying in pretty good shape. I mean, I'm still pretty scared of him," Brees said. "For him to sit there and go, 'Wait a minute, you mean I can come back, I don't have to play a full game, I can play between 20, 25 snaps a game, it's always going to be a pass rush, I'm always going to be matched up against the worst offensive lineman and all the attention is going to Myles Garrett and some of these other monsters up there? Like, yeah, why not?' And truly make a Super Bowl run, I think that temptation might be too much for him to pass up."
The Rams' acquisition of Garrett is what got the ball rolling and the wheels spinning in Donald's mind. He's never thought about returning before, but with the chance to pair with another multi-time Defensive Player of the Year, Donald is seriously thinking about it.

Charlotte Knights 7, Norfolk Tides 6
Charlotte (51-46) had to battle from behind, but a pair of rehabbing big leaguers helped spark the comeback. The Tides grabbed an early 1-0 lead after the dreaded leadoff walk surrendered by David Sandlin came around to score in the first. However, the Knights’ cavalry broke through in the fourth with a three-run frame. Rikuu Nishida worked a free pass before Everson Pereira roped an RBI double. Austin Hays followed by launching a two-run homer to put Charlotte in front for good.
Norfolk tried to creep back in with a pair in the fifth, but Charlotte had a four-run answer. Andy Weber mashed a homer, Nolan Jones drove in another run, and suddenly it was 7-3. The Tides did their best to make it interesting late, nicking Tanner McDougal for one and then squeezing two more out of Garrett Schoenle in the ninth, but the comeback fell a run short. Sandlin, for his part, was stingy with hits but generous with walks, serving up three in four innings and missing out on the win. He fanned two.

Charlotte (51-46) had to battle from behind, but a pair of rehabbing big leaguers helped spark the comeback. The Tides grabbed an early 1-0 lead after the dreaded leadoff walk surrendered by David Sandlin came around to score in the first. However, the Knights’ cavalry broke through in the fourth with a three-run frame. Rikuu Nishida worked a free pass before Everson Pereira roped an RBI double. Austin Hays followed by launching a two-run homer to put Charlotte in front for good.
Norfolk tried to creep back in with a pair in the fifth, but Charlotte had a four-run answer. Andy Weber mashed a homer, Nolan Jones drove in another run, and suddenly it was 7-3. The Tides did their best to make it interesting late, nicking Tanner McDougal for one and then squeezing two more out of Garrett Schoenle in the ninth, but the comeback fell a run short. Sandlin, for his part, was stingy with hits but generous with walks, serving up three in four innings and missing out on the win. He fanned two.

As the offseason wears on, it's become apparent that the list of people who don't believe Aaron Donald can make an NFL comeback is smaller than the list of people who do.
In a one-on-one interview with USA TODAY Sports, Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees said he 'absolutely' believes Donald could return to NFL action in 2026.
"First off, I've watched the guy on Instagram, and it looks like he's staying in pretty good shape," Brees said. "I mean, I'm still pretty scared of him."
In the two years since his retirement, Donald has consistently posted videos of his workouts to social media – videos that seem to indicate he is still in playing shape if he were to decide to return to the Los Angeles Rams. The 35-year-old defensive tackle has not played an NFL snap since January 2024, but Brees said he's not doubting the possibility of a comeback.

Entering the 2026 NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams are already regarded as having one of the best teams in football. But if they achieve their lofty goal of winning a championship, they could go down as one of the greatest teams of all time.
Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr added the Rams to a list of 14 teams that could win the Super Bowl this season. While that's not surprising, given the strength of the team's roster and their recent runs of success, it is worth noting that Orr believes the Rams have one of the best on-paper teams he's ever seen.
The Rams are the obvious, heavy-hitting front-runners on this list. The additions of Myles Garrett, Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie to a team that was a few plays away from going to the Super Bowl is the clearest example of Les Snead and Sean McVay appropriately reading their roster and honing in on the right time to triple down. The Rams' schedule is relentless, and managing rest for both Garrett and Matthew Stafford will be a major storyline this coming season, especially after beginning the season in Australia.
Still, it would be fair to say the Rams were on equal footing from a talent perspective with the Seahawks last year and made premium upgrades in every area where they were deficient, whereas Seattle had a post–Legion of Boom redux where it had to confront the difficulty of paying certain Super Bowl–winning stars versus opting to save elsewhere. Anyone who does not rank the Rams as one of the two or three top Super Bowl contenders is simply overthinking it. This is one of the best preseason, on-paper teams I have ever seen.
The Seahawks had to lose some players in free agency as the champagne costs ****** ociated with players who win the Super Bowl forced the team to make tough financial decisions. Despite that, the Seahawks were able to maintain the entire core of their operation, so their losses likely won't hurt in the long run.
