DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — The Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda has claimed more than 200 lives in its first month and is the worst known outbreak at this stage, with up to 35,000 suspected potential contacts, Africa’s Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said on Thursday.
With 894 confirmed cases so far, the current outbreak is three times worse than a previous outbreak in Uganda in 2000, which had 281 cases at the same point, said Dr. Wessam Mankoula, a medical epidemiologist at Africa CDC.
The latest number of cases is believed to be higher because the outbreak was confirmed on May 15, weeks after it was suspected to have begun. The number of cases has increased 38% since last week and is now in 32 health zones across eastern Congo, said Mankoula.
The outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus, which has no approved vaccines or treatments and was not tested for in the early days. The more common Zaire virus, for which there is a vaccine, was responsible for most of Congo’s past 16 outbreaks of the disease.
So far 74 patients have recovered from the disease across eastern Congo and Uganda. Experimental treatments like monoclonal antibodies are being developed for Bundibugyo.

For many baseball fans, the Home Run Derby has become just as entertaining as the MLB All-Star Game itself. Every summer, some of the biggest stars in Major League Baseball take center stage and put on a power-hitting spectacle unlike anything else in the sport. Towering home runs, dramatic comebacks, and unforgettable moments have turned the Derby into one of the highlights of All-Star Week.
Now, MLB is making another significant change to the event, and it could make the competition even more exciting. According to a recent post by Underdog MLB, the league is moving away from the timed format that has been used in recent years and returning to a system that focuses entirely on swings.
MORE: Tarik Skubal is back, and 3 teams should be all in on him at the MLB trade deadline
Under the new format, hitters will no longer race against the clock. Instead, participants will be given a set number of swings in each round:
First Round: 20 swings

The Brooklyn Nets have the No. 6 overall pick in next week's 2026 NBA Draft and many around the league have been speculating on how the Nets will approach the event. Most teams in Brooklyn's position would take the best player available and move on from there, but the next question is would they be the best fit for a player like Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr.?
"Acuff would thrive with a featured offensive role, and the star-needy Nets should have no trouble providing that," Zach Buckley wrote for Bleacher Report of the Nets being the best fit for Acuff because of what they could offer him coming into the NBA. Acuff is projected to be the kind of player that could be an offensive engine for his team if he reaches his ceiling and Brooklyn could use a player capable of providing that value.
"In addition, they'd also give him enough **** ers to keep defenses honest, a couple of rim-running centers to pair with in pick-and-rolls and as much scoring help as he'll need but not so much that he'd get lost in the shuffle," Buckley continued on Acuff's fit with the Nets. "They're also supremely flexible going forward, so they could create the ideal roster to emphasize his strengths and mask his weaknesses."
Acuff is coming off a 2025-26 season for the Razorbacks where he averaged 23.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.4 **** ists per game while shooting 48.4% from the field and 44.0% from behind the three-point line. While Acuff's offensive potential is clear, his struggles on the defensive end gives some pause on how effective he'll be at the next level, but the Nets do not have to worry about that too much in the early going.
At this point in the pre-draft cycle, most around the league have the Nets taking Acuff or Illinois guard Keaton Wagler, depending on who the Los Angeles Clippers decide to take with the No. 5 pick. It seems that many agree that Acuff is the better player of the two and if the Nets are able to take him with their pick, it looks like Brooklyn would be the best fit for him as well.

Prime Video’s first season as a NASCAR Cup Series broadcast partner appears to be gaining momentum as the streaming service heads into its final race of the year this weekend at San Diego’s Naval Base Coronado.
According to viewership data released by Prime Video following Sunday’s race at Pocono Raceway, NASCAR on Prime is averaging 2.29 million viewers through its first four Cup Series broadcasts of 2026. That figure represents a 5% increase compared to the comparable four-race average on Prime Video from a year ago.
The numbers are particularly notable given the challenges Prime has faced during its inaugural NASCAR season. Three of Prime Video’s first four NASCAR broadcasts were impacted by weather-related schedule changes, including Sunday’s race at Pocono, which was moved up by two hours because of forecasted thunderstorms.
Even with those disruptions, Prime enters its final race weekend of the season showing growth across several key audience categories.
The biggest takeaway from the latest viewership report is the overall season average.

The T20 skill scale used at the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup is a metric used to rate players' playing styles based on certain aspects of their game.
Designed by cricket data experts CricViz and in collaboration with the International Cricket Council, the skill scale ratings are regularly shown by the ICC in television coverage of major tournaments.
In essence, it is designed to show viewers how a player performs and what their strengths and weaknesses are based on previous performances.
A new version of the skill scale was designed specifically for this World Cup in England and Wales.
All metrics are rated between 0 and 100, with the higher the number equating to how much of that metric is incorporated into that player's game.

There won't be much news around the NFL for the next month between OTAs and training camp, but one of the biggest storylines to monitor is the potential return of Aaron Donald. Who knows when we'll get news about his decision for the 2026 season, but he's certainly keeping everyone on their toes.
Michael Brockers, Quentin Lake and other players have teased Donald's return but no one can say for sure whether he's coming back or not.
Recently, Cayden's Corner on TikTok asked former NFL stars whether they think Donald will be back in 2026, and they all believe he will. LeSean McCoy previously hinted at Donald returning and he teased that possibility again in this video.
Cam Newton, Chad Johnson and Robert Griffin III all think Donald will play this season, too.
LeSean McCoy: “You know Aaron Donald’s one of my best friends. I can’t tell you everything, but I’ll tell you this much: He’s thinking about it. That’s all I can give you.”

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — New Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel wanted to change Justin Herbert’s footwork, so he has taken the football out of his star quarterback’s hands for parts of the offseason program.
While it might seem counterintuitive, McDaniel believes Herbert can better focus on learning those adjustments when not throwing.
“To change it, and in one offseason, make it something that’s in the unconscious that you’re not thinking about where you have to think about a lot of other things, you really have to take an intentional attack on it. So I think he understood the extreme measures,” McDaniel said.
McDaniel is teaching Herbert to lead with his non-dominant left foot, with the right-handed passer having put his right foot forward when first handling the football in each of his previous six seasons in the NFL.
McDaniel initially took notice of the off-foot technique as an ******* istant to Kyle Shanahan with Houston in 2007. Brett Favre had been using it throughout his Hall of Fame career, and Tom Brady adopted it for the 2007 season when he threw 50 touchdowns passes, setting a then single-season league record that has since been broken.

MOSCOW, June 18 (Reuters) - The head of Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom on Thursday accused Ukraine of killing a key worker in a drone attack near the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine.
There was no immediate response from Ukraine and Reuters could not independently verify the statement.
Russia took control of the plant, the largest nuclear power station in Europe, soon after its forces entered Ukraine in 2022 and both sides regularly accuse each other of endangering its safety with military action.
Alexei Likhachev, head of Rosatom, said in a statement that Ukrainian drones had attacked the nearby city of Enerhodar on Wednesday, where most of the station's employees live.
He said one power plant employee working at a repair workshop had been killed and that doctors were fighting for the life of a second employee injured in the same attack.

MCKINNEY, Texas – As convicted killer Karmelo Anthony seeks a taxpayer-funded attorney for his appeal after claiming he is "penniless," newly reviewed public records show his parents activated a Texas business entity less than a month after the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf.
The records do not establish that any fundraiser proceeds were routed through the company. Anthony's parents have not been accused of any wrongdoing or charged with a crime.
Anthony, 19, was sentenced earlier this month to 35 years in prison after a Collin County jury convicted him of murder in the April 2, 2025, stabbing death of Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco.
Days after sentencing, Anthony filed paperwork seeking court-appointed counsel for his appeal. In the filing, Anthony described himself as a "penniless, destitute, and indigent person, too poor to employ counsel to represent me on the appeal."

Michael Chandler says he's no stranger to adversity.
Chandler (23-11 MMA, 2-6 UFC) was knocked out by Mauricio Ruffy on Sunday at UFC Freedom 250 from the White House in Washington DC. The former Bellator champion and UFC ***** le challenger, who was a big underdog going into the fight, hasn't gotten his hand raised since knocking out Tony Ferguson in May 2022.
Chandler released a long video statement on his social media addressing the loss.
"Obviously the fight did not go my way, but I'm in good spirits," Chandler said on his Instagram. "I'm happy, I am healthy, I'm hard to kill. I'm impossible to kill. I'm impossible to defeat because I'm so truly blessed. ... Physically I'm good, a little banged up. I got punched in the ear. I'm banged up in the ear, got punched right in the ear and ripped it open.
"Hats off to Mauricio Ruffy. He was a tough puzzle to solve, to get going in there. He's long, he's fast, he's accurate, he's a good striker, and he landed the shots that ended the fight. Massive thank you to the UFC for the opportunity. Massive thank you to Dana for being a visionary who does one-of-one, crazy, never-to-be-seen again type of events. But, as I said, we're happy, we're healthy, we're hard to kill."

Decades after their football careers ended, former players still are following the lessons from “Mr. Waianae.”
Larry Ginoza, one of the most successful coaches in Hawaii high school football history, died this past Saturday. He was 89.
As Waianae High School’s head coach for 20 seasons through 1984, Ginoza won 189 games, third most on Oahu behind Cal Lee and Wendell Look. The Seariders won four Oahu Prep Bowls, including the inaugural championship in 1973, and nine OIA ******* les.
“Everyone knew how good he was as a coach,” said Kurt Gouveia, who had a dual role as quarterback and free safety for the Seasiders. “But he also was a great man. The man’s going to be missed a lot. He was stern but fair. He understood we were teenagers and we were going to make mistakes. But he taught us how to work hard and learn from our mistakes. And he was important to our community. He was Mr. Waianae.”
Ginoza relied on a wishbone offense, attacking defense, and a code of conduct and style.

KYIV, June 18 (Reuters) - Four years after Ukraine's Azov Regiment surrendered the last corner of the devastated city of Mariupol to Russian forces, the rebuilt unit is setting its sights on making Moscow pay for its occupation.
That bitter defeat in May 2022 — when hundreds of its fighters were killed or captured — turned Azov into a symbol of endurance in Ukraine and paved the way for its return as a bigger and more powerful force. Now, it is once again focusing on its home city on the Azov Sea.
Drones belonging to First Corps Azov streaked across the sky above the city's strategic seaport last week in an operation that targeted electrical substations, repair facilities and a sanctioned ship and plunged the port into a blackout, according to Kyiv's military.
Reuters was able to confirm the location of parts of a video of the attack posted by the corps.

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente is reportedly pondering starting Barcelona star Lamine Yamal against Saudi Arabia on Sunday at World Cup 2026.
Yamal came off the bench for 17 minutes in Spain’s disappointing 0-0 draw against Cape Verde in their opener but did look lively on his return from injury.
According to Cope, the chances of Yamal starting against Saudi Arabia are “increasing” as Spain’s medical staff believe he is able to play 45 minutes. However, there is a risk of relapse which means Spain must be very careful with the teenager.
Spain are also thinking about starting Yamal because De la Fuente is expected to make changes to his team after an underwhelming start to the tournament.
Dani Olmo and Alex Baena are also options to come into the starting XI, with Gavi potentially dropping out.

Red Sox have 'open-minded' trade deadline objective originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Red Sox have been one of the worst offensive teams in the Majors this season, sporting a .695 OPS as of Thursday morning.
That ranks 25th in baseball and is a significant reason for their struggles in 2026. Willson Contreras leads the club with 16 home runs, and Jarren Duran is the only other hitter with more than 10.
The Athletic's Jim Bowden wrote Thursday that the Red Sox will look for offensive upgrades at the trade deadline, but there's a catch.

The accolades keep coming for Caroline Harvey, with the U.S. national team and Wisconsin defender named the International Ice Hockey Federation’s female player of the year.
The honor caps a year in which the 23-year-old Harvey cemented her claim in being her generation’s most accomplished player.
Harvey was the overwhelming favorite in receiving more than 77% of the votes, the IIHF said. She finished ahead of Switzerland forward Alina Muller (9.1%), who scored her second career bronze medal-clinching goal at the Milan Cortina Games in February. Harvey’s U.S. and Badgers teammate Laila Edwards and Canadian captain Marie-Philip Poulin finished third with 4.5% of the votes.
To top it off, the IIHF honor comes the same day Harvey is expected to be selected with the first pick in the PWHL draft being held in Detroit.
From Pelham, New Hampshire, Harvey is the first defender and second American to earn the IIHF honor, joining Hilary Knight, who won the inaugural award in 2023.

The Ravens’ offensive snap distribution should look different in 2026, not because the foundation has changed, but because Baltimore has rebuilt the supporting cast around Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, Mark Andrews, and an offensive line undergoing one of its most important transitions in years. With Tyler Linderbaum, Patrick Ricard, Isaiah Likely, Charlie Kolar, Keaton Mitchell, and DeAndre Hopkins no longer part of the equation, the Ravens have to redistribute meaningful snaps at center, tight end, wide receiver, and in the backfield while offensive coordinator Declan Doyle installs a detail-driven system built around explosive plays, formation flexibility, and the continued stress Jackson creates on defenses.
Jackson played 702 offensive snaps last season, or 69.2%, as injuries and game circumstances reduced his total. If healthy, he should push back toward the 90% range in 2026. Tyler Huntley returns as the clear backup after playing 197 snaps last season, but his workload should shrink if Jackson stays available. Skylar Thompson gives Baltimore experienced depth, while Diego Pavia and Joe ******* nano enter camp as developmental quarterbacks competing for a path to the practice squad.
Henry remains the lead back after logging 556 snaps last season, or 54.8%, but Baltimore has to reshape the rotation behind him. Justice Hill played 219 offensive snaps and should again be the top change-of-pace and passing-down option if healthy. Rasheen Ali’s offensive role could grow after he played 119 snaps last season, while rookie Adam Randall is the wild card because his versatility gives Doyle a runner, receiver, and gadget option who can be used in motion, backfield packages, and specialty looks. Dontae McMillan and Elijah Tau-Tolliver are likely fighting for depth and special teams value. Lucas Scott is the lone fullback, but his roster path is complicated by Doyle’s preference for using tight ends and H-backs instead of a traditional fullback role.
Wide receiver should remain centered on Zay Flowers, who played 879 snaps last season, or 86.6%, and now enters 2026 as the unquestioned No. 1 option after back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons. Rashod Bateman played 551 snaps and still has a path to a major role, but he must hold off a deeper group after an injury-filled 2025 and trade speculation. Rookie Ja’Kobi Lane should push for immediate snaps because of his size, catch radius, and red-zone value, while Elijah Sarratt has already made a strong case as a polished possession target who can work from the slot and become trusted on third down. Devontez Walker played 163 snaps last season and remains a touchdown threat entering a critical third year. LaJohntay Wester’s return value gives him a realistic game-day role, while Dayton Wade, Cornelius Johnson, Xavier Guillory, Cortez Braham, and Octavian Smith face a crowded competition for the final receiver spots.

After a tremendous season ending with the program’s second NCAA Tournament appearance, UConn women’s hockey had three players selected in this year’s PWHL Draft, a new school record. All three of this year’s picks originally hail from Canada, landed in the third or fourth rounds, and are heading to expansion franchises.
Tia Chan was the first Husky off the board, at 28th overall, to San Jose with the fourth pick in the 3rd round. The All-American goalie and back-to-back Hockey East Goaltender of the Year is UConn’s all-time leader in wins (70), save percentage (.946), and shutouts (25). This past season, the Hamilton, Ontario native was named National Women’s Goalie of the Year, setting or tying single-season program records for wins (27), saves (1,122), and save percentage (.951).
Kyla Josifovic went 39th overall to Detroit with the third pick in the fourth round, while Megan Woodworth was selected three picks later at 42nd overall to Hamilton.
A team captain this past season, Josifovic notched career highs in goals (16) and ******* ists (24) as she played all 39 games and became the first Husky with a 40-point season since 2008. The Burlington, Ontario native served as a reliable forward from the moment she stepped on campus, playing 144 games in four years at UConn.
Woodworth also played in all 39 games last year and 144 in her career, recording career highs this past season in goals (16), ******* ists (11), and points (27). The Berwick, Nova Scotia native also led UConn’s forwards with 41 blocked shots.

FC Barcelona are increasingly convinced they made the right decision by securing Hamza Abdelkarim’s permanent transfer before the start of the 2026 World Cup.
The Egyptian striker has quickly become one of the tournament’s most intriguing stories after making history as the youngest Arab footballer ever to appear at a World Cup.
At just 18 years old, Abdelkarim’s inclusion in Egypt’s squad raised eyebrows, particularly given that he has yet to feature for either Barcelona’s first team or Barça Atletic.
However, those inside the club have long believed in his potential, according to AS, with Flick and Barcelona delighted by the progress he has shown.

It was early March, the kind of Houston morning where the heat hasn't fully committed yet but you can feel it coming, and the deep-ball line at the Rivals Combine was already backed up by the time class of 2029 prospect Ryder Flugence got his rep. He's hard to miss in that line—6 foot 5 with a frame that still has room to grow into itself, but it wasn't the height that got attention. It was the throw. Easy lower half, no wasted motion, and a ball that left his hand on a line and just kept carrying, the way the good ones do, until it dropped into a receiver's hands forty-some yards downfield like it had been on rails the whole way. I wrote his name down that morning and underlined it. I knew right then this was a name to remember.
Three months later, it isn't just me remembering it. It's half the SEC. The Kentucky Wildcats are the latest to get in line, and Will Stein didn't waste time once he saw what I saw: a developmental frame with the loose, easy actions that are nearly impossible to teach, attached to a player who's barely played a full season yet. That's the part of this story that should grab Big Blue Nation by the collar: the SEC staffs chasing Flugence right now are chasing the same throw I watched live in Houston, not a finished product. They're betting on the trajectory.
That trajectory starts with the frame. At 205 pounds with three years of high school left to add to it, Flugence has the kind of length you can't manufacture in a weight room you either have it or you're projecting someone into it, and evaluators always prefer the former. What stood out watching him live, the same thing that shows up on tape, is that he already plays smaller than his size. His feet reset under pressure instead of bailing outside the structure, which is the harder trait to find in a quarterback this tall—most long-framed passers take years to learn how to stay compact in the pocket instead of getting stiff and panicked when the first read disappears.
Flugence has clearly been coached, or simply wired, to avoid that trap already. It doesn't just stop at QB, his experience on both sides of the ball has already set a separator that is shaping his solid foundation. That two-way background tends to show up as instinctive ball skills and spatial awareness—the kind of feel pure pocket passers without a defensive or receiving background often have to be taught from nothing.
None of this comes with a deep résumé yet, and it's worth saying plainly. Flugence spent 2025 as Boerne Champion's backup, finishing the season with 570 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions on 61.4 percent passing in spot duty—production that came in flashes, not as a full-time starter, highlighted by a fourth-and-1 touchdown plunge that helped clinch a playoff berth in November. This is a traits evaluation more than a production-based one right now, and there isn't enough tape yet to know how he'll handle a full season of high-level competition. But the same was true of plenty

Patriots Called Best Fit For Former No. 1 Overall Pick Who Is Still A Free Agent originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots made moves in the offseason to address their pass rush, but they could still use some more help.
The Patriots signed Dre'Mont Jones and drafted Gabe Jacas in the second round. Mike Vrabel has noted that he likes the group of edge rushers the team has, but Jacas has yet to sign his contract and underwent a small knee procedure this offseason. Adding another pass rusher would not be the worst idea, and there are still a few cheap options available in free agency.
Joey Bosa and Jadeveon Clowney are both still available. Both were very high draft picks and may be a bit past their prime. However, they can still get after the quarterback, and Bleacher Report's Alex Kay called the Patriots the best fit for Clowney.
"Clowney tallied at least 5.5 sacks in four of the last five years, including in 2025 when he contributed 8.5 sacks in just 13 games with the Dallas Cowboys," wrote Kay on Wednesday. "He's proven he can set an edge, disrupt in the backfield and play run defense at a high level regardless of the system, making him one of the best possible defensive free-agent pickups at this point of the offseason. The New England Patriots are a fantastic fit for Clowney. The team needs to bolster the edge after coming up just short of a Super Bowl last season, adding some firepower to combat the top-tier opposing signal-callers the squad is set to come up against during the 2026 campaign."

Jets urged to sign former Browns, Bills 27.5 sack defensive lineman originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Jets might not be entering the 2026 season as Super Bowl or playoff contenders, but Aaron Glenn is coaching for his job, and needs the team to play better.
To keep his job, the Jets' defense needs to be a lot better than it was last year. While there was plenty of focus on the zero-interception statistic, this Jets defense also needed better production from the defensive line.
While they've added a few players this offseason, ESPN's Aaron Schatz is urging the Jets to sign a former Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills defensive lineman who has 27.5 sacks in his career, Larry Ogunjobi, to bolster the DL depth at a reasonable price tag.
"Sign defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi," Schatz writes. "Ogunjobi would make a good addition to help David Onyemata and Harrison Phillips. The 32-year-old Ogunjobi will come much cheaper than the $8.3 million the Bills paid for half a season of him last year, and he has experience as a 3-4 end."

There will be blood, sweat and tears on players’ soccer jerseys at the World Cup — and plenty of deeper cultural and historical meaning, too.
Here, The ******* ociated Press runs you through some of the more compelling — and controversial — backstories from the kit designs on show in soccer’s biggest event, currently taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
For its World Cup debut, the smallest nation by population at the tournament is paying homage to the roughly 525,000 inhabitants who live on 10 volcanic islands off the coast of Africa. A geometric, triangular print across its blue (home) and white (away) jerseys represents the network of flight paths that connect the islands. The idea is that the people of Cape Verde are united behind the players at the World Cup — and that togetherness showed as the team held firm to seal an unlikely 0-0 draw with heavily favored Spain in their first match.
“This is not a jersey,” reads a message on the collar of Belgium's multicolor away shirt. No, the Belgians aren't losing their minds. It's just a nod to the European nation's surrealist heritage — and notably the work of its master in this artistic movement from the early 20th century. Throughout his career, Belgian artist René Magritte questioned the enigmatic relationship of mind and eye, reality and language, writing under “The Treachery of Images” — his iconic painting of a pipe — the words: “Ceci n’est pas une pipe (This is not a pipe).” The light-blue jersey features pink patterns and black detailing, incorporating soccer-inspired motifs such as pitch lines and a ball. “True to the surrealism theme, the kit sparks the imagination and invites conversation,” the Belgian federation says.
The original jersey submitted by this Caribbean nation — another World Cup debutant — included a depiction of the final battle of the Haitian War of Independence in 1803 on its front. In the words of Colombian sportswear manufacturer Saeta, it was a “tribute to the men and women who contribute every day to Haiti’s future.” It didn't go down too well with FIFA, which rejected the image during its approval process, deeming it too political. So an updated blue soccer kit was needed, one that no longer includes the battle artwork.

June 18 (UPI) -- Forward Elye Wahi, who is under investigation for suspected match fixing, was denied entry into Canada for the 2026 World Cup, the Ivorian Football Federation announced Thursday
Wahi started during Ivory Coast's 1-0 win over Ecuador on Sunday in Philadelphia. The Ivorians will take on Germany in their second Group E match Saturday in Toronto.
"In this particularly delicate period, the FIF extends all its support to the player and reaffirms its confidence in him," the federation said. "Elye Wahi remains an important element of the Ivory Coast national team.
"The federation also informs that the player will not be able to join the delegation's trip to Canada. Indeed, the necessary administrative authorizations for his entry into Canadian territory could not be obtained at this stage. Elye Wahi will therefore remain in the United States pending the team's return. The Ivorian Football Federation will continue to follow the situation closely and will communicate any useful official information."
France's Ligue 1 announced Wednesday that an "unusual" amount of bets were placed regarding Wahi receiving a yellow card during Nice's 0-0 draw with Metz on May 17. Wahi received a yellow card in the 35th minute of the draw.
