Slowly but surely the secret is coming out that Michael Penix Jr. has officially arrived as a franchise quarterback. The Atlanta Falcons' starter has been exceptional since returning to the lineup in Week 3, racking up nine touchdown passes to go with just one interception.
Penix is fresh off his best game of the season, totaling three scores and no turnovers against a top-five San Francisco 49ers defense.
That should have gotten Penix a huge ****** p in the weekly NFL.com quarterback rankings, but he only saw a modest gain of one spot, coming in at No. 12. That puts him in-between two former league MVPs, one spot below Patrick Mahomes and one above Matt Stafford.
"Michael Penix Jr. looks very comfortable and decisive in Kevin Stefanski's offense, freely spreading the ball among his many talented targets at a rate I haven't seen from him previously in his NFL career. Penix's contributions were especially important in a game in which Bijan Robinson fell short of breaking things open on the ground, and a reason to take the Falcons seriously going forward."
While the small gain is a little disappointing, keep in mind that Penix wasn't even listed in most quarterback rankings going into the season. Instead, it was Tua Tagovailoa representing the Falcons, usually somewhere between Nos. 30 and 32 among projected starters.

Welcome to Week 8 of the fantasy football season! Below I have some players I think you should start and some I think you should sit. As usual, your mileage may vary depending on your available choices, so don't just blindly bench someone if you don't have a better option!
Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, and San Francisco 49ers
Prescott has been up and down this season, but he's coming off a strong Monday night game against the Eagles and now faces a bad Cardinals pass defense. Arizona has given up the most adjusted yards per attempt, the most receiving touchdowns, the second worst QB rating, and the second most yards per completion. Prescott is poised to pick up where he left off on Monday night.
If the Cardinals had better backup quarterbacks, I would be worried that Brissett might be benched during a game, but they don't. This week, as long as Brissett plays the whole game, it will be difficult for him not to accumulate fantasy points. I expect the Cowboys will be able to score on the Cardinals, while Brissett inefficiently tries to keep up through the air. Dallas, so far, has allowed the third worst completion percentage, the seventh worst average yards per attempt, and the third-worst yards per completion to opposing quarterbacks.
Murray continued to play poorly last week, but the Vikings also continued to win. Not trailing in games hurts Murray, as he doesn't need to run and throw as much to try to make up points. This week they'll face a Lions offense that should have more success against Brian Flores' top defense than any team this year. The Lions defense also remains the absolute worst at giving up fantasy points to quarterbacks. That has a lot to do with the Lions keeping teams throwing the ball from a deficit, but the results are hard to ignore.

La Stampa reports that part of the Juventus dressing room is unhappy with Luciano Spalletti's methods, particularly because the Tuscan coach spends too much time talking, which reduces the intensity of training.
Juventus are preparing for a crucial Serie A match against Napoli, and coach Spalletti has ordered the team into a two-day training retreat.

The Italian tactician is on the brink, having only earned 14 points in nine Serie A games so far this season, losing two of the last three games.
On Thursday, after a 2-0 loss to Genoa, CEO Giovanni Carnevali gave a stern dressing-room speech, asking the players to take responsibility for the poor results so far.

Former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning sees a different version of J.J. McCarthy than the one who struggled in Minnesota.
Speaking on The Colin Cowherd Podcast, Manning pointed to McCarthy's recent play with the Giants as evidence that a fresh start is already paying off.
McCarthy, acquired from the Vikings in late September for a 2027 fifth-round pick, has appeared in three games for New York. He first drew notice in the fourth quarter against the New Orleans Saints, when he entered with little to lose and threw for 243 yards in a near-comeback. He followed that with a strong outing in his first start against the Houston Texans, helping the Giants secure an overtime win.
Through those appearances, McCarthy has posted a 95.2 passer rating while throwing for 495 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Manning credited the early reps, particularly in two-minute situations against the Saints, for helping McCarthy settle into a rhythm.

Portugal and Morocco will host the 2027 Dakar Rally the organisers announced on Friday after it was moved from Saudi Arabia following repeated attacks on the kingdom by Yemen's Houthis.
The drivers, motorcyclists and truck drivers will tackle the prologue and first special stage in Portugal followed by 11 stages of the gruelling rally -- covering almost 8,000 kilometres with 4,341km of specials -- in Morocco.
It is the first time since 2007 that the gruelling multi-stage rally, created in 1978, returns to Africa.
"Although it has been moved, the 49th edition of the Dakar will still meet the sporting standards which has always made the event the most demanding of endurance rallies," said race director David Castera.
"Despite the short amount of time we have had we have put together a real Dakar.

Smriti Mandhana has revealed that former India captain MS Dhoni personally congratulated her after the Indian women's team lifted their maiden ODI World Cup ***** le in November 2025.

Speaking at an event featuring Dhoni, Mandhana recalled receiving a WhatsApp message from the legendary cricketer following India's historic triumph. She admitted that the gesture made her particularly happy, knowing that Dhoni is not someone who uses his phone frequently.

"He actually did send me a message after the World Cup win. I know he does not use his phone a lot. I was very happy that he used WhatsApp to congratulate all of us," Mandhana said.

Host Harsha Bhogle then asked Mandhana whether she had saved Dhoni's number.

"I did have his number," she replied.

Dhoni, meanwhile, offered an interesting explanation for choosing Mandhana as the recipient of his message. He revealed that she was the only member of the Indian women's team whose contact number he had saved.

"I did not know anyone else's (number) from the team. I wanted the message to go through. We had just shot (a commercial) before that. I thought, 'Let me send a message to Smriti' and I mentioned, 'Please wish everyone who is part of the team," Dhoni said.

India created history on November 2, 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in Navi Mumbai to win their first-ever Women's ODI World Cup. The triumph ended the team's long wait for an ICC ***** le.

Batting first in the final, India posted 298/7, with Shafali Verma leading the charge with 87 runs and Deepti Sharma contributing 58. Deepti then delivered with the ball, taking five wickets as South Africa were dismissed for 246 despite a century from Laura Wolvaardt.

Average Women's Super League attendances surged by 192% in the season after the Lionesses' Euro 2022 triumph, but the speed of the boom has stalled.
Median crowds have risen by just 166 fans, from 3,070 in 2023-24 to 3,236 in 2025-2026, according to a 2026 report from YouGov and architecture firm Populous.
Some of the biggest fixtures are now attracting significantly smaller attendances.
Arsenal against Manchester United at Emirates Stadium fell from 46,603 in 2024-25 to 29,853 this season, while Chelsea v ******* nal dropped from 34,302 to 19,349 over the same period.
The Gunners, who averaged 34,000 at the Emirates last season - almost four times the next-highest club, Chelsea, and higher than eight Premier League sides - had just 19,546 for their October match against Birmingham City.

Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard is expected to be out for a few weeks after suffering a knee injury.
The 35-year-old is a phenomenal basketball player, but injuries have regularly affected him over the course of his career.
That has led to some criticism recently, but Charles Barkley has noticed a trend with Leonard that actually deserves some praise.
Leonard was recently branded as the 'worst superstar in the history of sports' by Stephen A. Smith after news emerged about his injury.
The ESPN host accused him of getting paid without working because of the number of games he has missed throughout his career.

Anthony Edwards is expected to be out for around two months, and that is a huge blow for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Ant-Man had a phenomenal start to the new NBA season, and he formed an instant connection with LaMelo Ball. The duo looked incredible together.
However, Edwards has undergone surgery and will be on the sidelines for a while. The Timberwolves need a solution in his absence, and DeMarcus Cousins has shared an interesting suggestion.
Anthony Davis only joined the Washington Wizards in February this year and made his regular-season debut in the opening game of this season.
The former Mavs star has missed several games due to injury in recent years, but on his day, he is up there with the best forwards in the NBA.

UFC 324 kicked off the promotion's Paramount era with an absolute thriller, as Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett went to war for five rounds. Gaethje eventually came out on top, securing the interim lightweight ****** le, but the fight wasn't without its controversies.
Several eye pokes and a low blow suffered by Pimblett had fans questioning the referee's decision not to take a point away, especially after two judges scored the contest 49-46. Beyond the officiating debate, another talking point was Pimblett's decision to trade strikes with one of the division's most dangerous punchers instead of making better use of his grappling.
Given his Brazilian jiu-jitsu credentials, many felt he left a major weapon unused. The Liverpudlian has since admitted that he could have approached things differently. Now, with Gaethje having become the undisputed 155lbs champion after beating Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250, Pimblett has opened up about what he would change if the two ever crossed paths inside the Octagon again.
In a recent interview with How U Livin J Piven, Pimblett admitted that he would take a completely different approach if he ever got another shot at Gaethje. "Yeah, if I fought him again, I'd shoot in within 10 seconds. I'd love to get that rematch. If I fought him again, I'd shoot in the first 10 seconds, put him on his back, and choke his ****** out."
That would arguably be a much smarter game plan for the Liverpudlian, who reminded everyone of his grappling prowess with a spectacular comeback at UFC 329.

The Denver Broncos had a great week from their entire team against the Arizona Cardinals with multiple standout performers, but none better than inside linebacker Alex Singleton.
Singleton finished the game with an unreal 19 total tackles, including a sack, and was all over the field making plays for the Broncos defense.
That's the most tackles in a game by any player this season and most tackles by a player in a non-overtime game since 2023. Singleton continues to dominate and not only is he the leader in tackles this season, but he has 15 more than the next highest player, All-Pro Fred Warner.

Commanders WR Treylon Burks downgraded on injury report before Eagles game appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Washington Commanders just put star wide receiver Terry McLaurin on season-ending injured reserve after his knee injury against the San Francisco 49ers. The Commanders could now find themselves down another wideout when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8 following their bye week.
Treylon Burks has been downgraded in the team's latest injury report, per ESPN's John Keim. After being limited on Wednesday, Burks did not participate on Thursday due to a foot injury.
In his fifth year in the league, the 26-year-old Burks is on course to surpass his debut season with the Commanders last year. In just five games, he is one catch away from matching his 10 receptions last year. His 152 receiving yards and two touchdowns are already more than his total last season.

FORT WALTON BEACH — There was no grandiose celebration of a four-peat, nor was there even acknowledgement of it by Frank Beasley in the postgame huddle.
Instead, after Choctaw (6-2, 4-0) won its sixth straight game and locked up District 1-4A again with a 49-7 win over Booker T. Washington (6-2, 3-1), the Big Green put their head down because they know what's on the horizon.
Region 1-4A is a gauntlet with unbeaten Columbia ranked No. 1, undefeated St. Augustine No. 2, unbeaten Mosley at No. 3 and Ed White 7-2 narrowly ahead of the Big Green at No. 4. That'll likely change between now and the next weekend before the region brackets are revealed, but for now the Big Green can only control what they can control.
Vote now: FPL Athlete of the Week for Oct. 19-24

The NFL, the most parity-driven major sports league, feels even more wide open this year. Even the perceived powerhouses entering the season and teams with the best records have flaws that are already being picked at by opponents.
Betting markets and bettors are keeping plenty of teams alive. As of Thursday evening, FanDuel had 11 NFC teams with +164 or shorter odds to make the playoffs, and seven teams with +1100 odds or shorter to win the Super Bowl. Thirteen teams were at +2500 or shorter to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in February.
This open competition leads to opportunity. And opportunity leads to action. Even when the Nov. 10 trade deadline was still a ways away, teams started to address their weaknesses. The Dallas Cowboys added Joey Porter Jr., the Baltimore Ravens nabbed Cam Jurgens. Now with the deadline growing closer, NFL teams have decided to strike. First, Quenton Nelson was shipped off to the Seattle Seahawks from the sinking ship known as the Indianapolis Colts. Soon after, DeForest Buckner returned to the San Francisco 49ers to bolster their defensive front.
Then, on Thursday, the Chicago Bears fired a shot across the bow to the rest of the NFC and NFL, trading two future first-round draft picks and a fourth-rounder to the Tennessee ****** ans for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round selection.
Now that's some real action for a trade deadline!

After a challenging season with a young roster, the Red Knights went out on a high note.
Facing rival Fort Myers, North pounded the rock and came up with some key defensive scores for a running clock victory at Sam Sirianni Field on Thursday night.
"I feel great," North head coach Ira Riggins said. "This team has been through so much this year. It's just fun to see these guys come out and put it all together for the first time versus a very well-known team. Hat's off to Fort Myers – they've always been top notch in this area, and it's always good to get a win versus them."
The Greenies got on the board first, converting a successful onside kick into points on a 33-yard field goal by senior Brayden Russell.

DENTON, Texas (AP) — Tayven Jackson passed for 404 yards and four touchdowns, Jahiem White rushed for 193 yards and two scores and North Texas held off Florida Atlantic 48-41 on Thursday night.
Jackson completed 33 of 46 passes as North Texas (6-2, 4-0 American Conference) extended its win streak to five. White did his damage on 26 carries.
Caden Veltkamp finished with a season-high 452 yards and five touchdowns — matching his career high — on 37-for-56 passing for Florida Atlantic (5-3, 2-2). Easton Messer totaled a school-record 16 receptions for 189 yards and three scores.
Veltkamp's 18-yard touchdown pass to Branden Hoch helped the Owls lead 10-3 after one quarter.
Jackson connected with Baron Tipton for an 8-yard touchdown to tie it 10-all early in the second quarter, but Veltkamp and Messer teamed up for a 27-yard score and a 17-10 lead on the ensuing drive.

The Arizona Cardinals have made one trade already. As the trade deadline approaches, many believe they could make at least one other deal.
Outside linebacker Josh Sweat has been the subject of rumors since the offseason. Those rumors are heating up, although it is no more than people speculating fit.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler is hearing that rivals see the Cardinals moving Sweat. One source considers the Dallas Cowboys, whom the Cardinals play this weekend, a good fit.
Fowler gives a Sweat trade about 40% odds and notes the Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears as teams to watch.
With the Bears acquiring defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee ******* ans, they likely aren't a possibility now. It seems unlikely the Cardinals would send their best edge rusher to a division rival like the 49ers, so the Cowboys make the most sense.

UCF has been fined $100,000 by the Big 12 League for a viral vulgar chant some students made during last week's football game against Brigham Young University.
Students could be heard yelling "F the Mormons" loudly just before kickoff and well into the third quarter, according to one student who attended the game.
"I wasn't in the student section," said Trevor Lawson, a senior at UCF. "I was kind of in the middle section away from it, but you could hear it."
Campus security removed several students from the stadium after the chants continued despite multiple announcements asking them to stop. "There were like six announcements, so maybe they should have reeled it back a little bit after that," said Lawson.
The clip was posted on X and went viral almost immediately, racking up more than 200,000 views since Saturday.

WESTERVILLE – Volleyball is a game of momentum, and winning the first set is crucial to a match.
Lancaster had all the momentum on its side in the first set against Dublin Coffman during the Central District Division I district championship game on Thursday, Oct. 29. However, the Lady Gales let the advantage slip away and never recovered in a hard-fought 26-24, 25-17, 25-19 loss at Westerville Central High School.
In the first set, the Gales had overcome a 20-19 deficit to take a 23-20 lead and looked like they were about to finish things off, but an unforced error gave the Shamrocks a little life they needed, and they outscored the Gales 6-1 to take the all-important first set.
From there, Lancaster seemed to be playing on its heels and never got into the rhythm during the next two sets.

Jake Garcia experienced a disappointing ending to Friday's Love's RV Stop 225 at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing 26th after being involved in a major accident during the final stage. The ThorSport Racing driver started 11th and led three laps before his afternoon ended prematurely.
Garcia initially showed competitive speed, remaining among the leading trucks as drivers battled through multiple drafting lanes. His No. 98 Ford eventually moved into the lead for three laps, providing an opportunity to establish himself among the contenders.
However, maintaining track position proved difficult as competitors changed drafting lanes and employed different pit strategies. Garcia remained in competition through the opening stages but encountered serious trouble on Lap 57.
An accident sent his Ford hard into the outside wall, triggering a caution and collecting multiple competitors, including Chandler Smith and Conner Jones. The damage prevented Garcia from continuing, ending his afternoon after 56 completed laps. He ultimately finished 26th and earned 11 points.
Garcia remains 11th in the overall NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series standings with 559 points, the highest-ranked driver who missed the championship Chase. With Martinsville and Homestead-Miami remaining, Garcia will attempt to preserve that position and finish his season strongly.

Ford has now announced the cars, the colors, the concert, the cable channel and the charity fund for its Veterans Day Classic at Daytona. What it hasn't announced, at least in the material it has published so far, is how long the race runs or how a winner gets picked. That gap is the story, and it's why the lineup tells you more than the poster does.
The event is set for Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Daytona International Speedway, three days after the Cup Series finale at Homestead (here's how that November calendar stacks up). Ford is running it in collaboration with NASCAR, Blue Star Families, IMSA and HSR, according to Ford's own announcement. Twelve Ford Racing drivers will split into six teams, one for each branch of the U.S. military, all in Mustang Dark Horse R race cars.
Think about what that means. In a normal NASCAR weekend, Ford's pitch to its fans is simple: beat Chevrolet and Toyota. Here there is **** ody to beat. Every driver, every car and every logo on the grid is Ford, so the manufacturer has to build the stakes from scratch. Its answer is the military branch as team identity, and Ford says the teams are racing for bragging rights.
That is a smart device and a fragile one. A one-make race can't borrow rivalry from the paddock. It has to earn it in two hours of television, which is why the details Ford hasn't filled in matter more than usual.
Ford's lineup pairs the drivers like this: Army gets Joey Hand and Brad Keselowski, the Marine Corps gets Ryan Blaney and Ben Hobson, the Navy gets Logan Sargeant and Ryan Preece, the Air Force gets Frankie Muniz and Austin Cindric, the **** e Force gets Noah Gragson and Layne Riggs, and the Coast Guard gets Joey Logano and Ty Majeski.

Buccaneers' Emeka Egbuka among players included in latest injury report before Falcons game appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka is showing signs of progress in his recovery, although his status for Sunday's Week 8 clash with the Atlanta Falcons remains up in the air.
Egbuka was a limited participant in Thursday's practice as he continued to work through the NFL's concussion protocol. One encouraging sign was his return to a regular practice jersey after previously wearing a non-contact one. The development suggests he is making progress, though he still needs medical clearance before returning to game action.
The rookie has been out since sustaining a concussion and a foot injury in the Buccaneers' Week 6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. During the fourth quarter, Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen delivered a hit that brought his shoulder into Egbuka's helmet as the receiver tried to make a play on an incomplete pass. The injuries forced him to sit out Tampa Bay's Week 7 win over the Carolina Panthers.
