Recent weeks on the NFL media rights beat have marked a changing of the tides.
Last September, the NFL publicly acknowledged for the first time that it would seek to strike early renewals with its broadcast partners several years prior to the 2029-30 season, when it has the contractual option to exit most of its agreements. The goal for the league was simple: negotiate higher rights fees now and, in return, remove the exit option at the end of the decade, allowing its partners to guarantee themselves NFL inventory well into the 2030s.
At first, it looked as if new deals were inevitable. After all, NFL programming is borderline existential to legacy broadcast networks like CBS, Fox, and NBC, all of which still rely on lucrative retransmission fees from distributors and local affiliates to fund their businesses. But then, things began to change. The NFL started facing pressure from all corners of Washington. Congress, the FCC, the DOJ, and others all started scrutinizing the shift of live sports off of linear television and onto streaming services. Those roadblocks seemingly bought league partners enough time to where no new deals were finalized prior to the 2026-27 season, as the NFL reportedly wanted.
Now, any early deals would only grant the NFL three additional seasons at higher rights fees (assuming it would otherwise exercise its opt-out clause at the end of the decade). And it seems like the league's broadcast partners are starting to sense they have a bit of leverage to hold out without risk of losing the NFL following the 2029-30 season.
During a recent earnings call, Fox Corporation CEO Lachlan Murdoch outright said his network won't negotiate early, instead saying Fox will negotiate with the NFL on a normal cadence around the 2029-30 timeline. Further reporting suggested that negotiations between CBS and the NFL were "on hold" amid Paramount's ongoing effort to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. And while CBS Sports president David Berson did not outright rule out early negotiations when speaking with Awful Announcing last week, the undertones of his answers suggested nothing was imminent between the two sides.

The relationship between a quarterback and center is one of the most important connections in football, and for the Chicago Bears, there is even more emphasis on that relationship going into the 2026 season.
Last year, the Bears had veteran Drew Dalman who played a big role in the offense's success, but he opted for retirement this offseason, which led the team to trading for veteran Garrett Bradbury to take his place. Bradbury's spot in the starting lineup was up for conversation when the team drafted Logan Jones in the second round of this year's draft, but it appears in training camp that the veteran has the upper hand.
This week, quarterback Caleb Williams spoke about his relationship with Bradbury, crediting the veteran center for growth between them even though they faced some early adversity.
"The first couple days we were rolling … and then we had a couple off days where communication may have been a little off, or cadence or things like that," Williams said. "These past couple days we've gotten better with it and being more conscious of some of those small mistakes that show up and that happen. And so we have gotten better. And then, yeah, that's my guy."
Given the offense that head coach Ben Johnson runs, there is no relationship more important than the one Williams will have with his center, which appears to be the veteran in the lead through the early stages of training camp. Time will tell if Bradbury keeps the job for the entire season, as he is currently playing on a one-year deal and has a rookie champing at the bit behind him.

One of the greatest defensive players to ever touch the turf and perhaps the greatest defender in NFC South history, former Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly delivered a memorable speech during this year's Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony. A former divisional foe who made a living making life miserable for Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints offense, Kuechly didn't hesitate to take a subtle shot at the Saints while also sharing some genuine praise for his old rival.
As Kuechly paid his respects to the other inductees, he couldn't help but bring up Brees and former Saints head coach Sean Payton. After years of battling the Saints twice a season, Kuechly had a unique memory that had less to do with their on-field battles and more to do with the atmosphere inside the Caesars Superdome.
Kuechly spoke of a specific song that was played after Saints touchdowns that still gives him headaches to this day: "If I hear that song 'Stand Up and Get Crunk,' it ruins my mood. I can't stand it." It was a hilarious reminder of just how much the Caesars Superdome atmosphere could get under the skin of opposing players.
But Kuechly's playful jab at the Saints was quickly followed by some genuine praise for Brees, whom he considers the best player he ever faced: "Drew, you're the best player I've ever played against. Your process, your anticipation. That dang cadence that you have, I can still hear it and it's something that I'll keep with me forever."
Coming from a defender who spent his career lining up against some of the game's most talented offensive players, Kuechly's words were a tremendous compliment to Brees. Despite the rivalry and countless battles between the two, Kuechly made it clear that his respect for No. 9 went far beyond the football field.

0929 ET – (Dow Jones) Automaker Ferrari’s results are strongly ahead of consensus in a quarter dominated by pricing and mix improvement underpinned by higher vehicle personalization, Bernstein ***** ysts write. This more than offset the expected drop in shipments, which was due to model changeovers, the bank says. Full-year guidance for revenue, Ebitda and EBIT was slightly raised, while there is no change to the Ebitda and EBIT margin guidance. The good set of results and a small raise in guidance are welcome after concerns were raised about the health of the luxury consumer and about the cadence of Ferrari’s own margin development, it adds. Bernstein sees further mix and personalization potential in the second half and also sees scope for another guidance upgrade at the third quarter results. Shares fall 1.7%. (dominic.choppingwsj.com)

From an unbiased point of view, there really was no reason for Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford to have the best season of his career in 2025. The MVP winner was clearly the NFL's best quarterback and decision-maker, but he entered the season with a schedule that put him against the league's top defenses, while being 37 years old with a back issue that forced him to miss training camp and almost put him on injured reserve to start the season.
Despite those looming hurdles, Stafford was simply brilliant, leading the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns. A primary reason is the players around him. While star receivers Davante Adams and Puka Nacua continue to dominate headlines, the Rams' offensive line has quietly been one of the league's best, which comes as a surprise due to how it was ******* embled.
Recently, Stafford spoke on The Athletic Football Show about a variety of topics, with the quarterback praising his line's ability to pick up pressure, especially on blitzes.
"You can't do anything if you're not protected and you got to find ways to get those protections done," Stafford said. "There was a great play—a great job of communicating from our entire group up front—relaying a call out, getting a back out in Carolina.
"I hit Davante on my left on like an in-cut versus a crazy overload blitz that we did a great job using the cadence. We got it shown, we flipped over the whole [protection], slid the line, did the whole thing, and it takes everybody. You know, that's what you realize. You can't sit there and go, 'Man, Matthew, great throw.' I was like, 'Yeah, well, I was able to stand in there and throw it.'"

For retirees who prefer their paychecks to arrive every 30 days instead of every 90, a small corner of the market delivers just that. With the 10-year Treasury yielding 4.55% as of mid-July, income investors are demanding a real premium from equity risk. The five monthly dividend payers below all clear that bar, and each combines a well-covered payout with a documented multi-year track record of monthly checks. This is a lineup built for cash flow that shows up like clockwork.
Realty Income wears the ticker "O" and the nickname "The Monthly Dividend Company" for a reason. Realty Income (NYSE:O) currently yields 4.76%, backed by a monthly cadence that has now stretched to 670 consecutive monthly dividends declared and 114 consecutive quarterly increases. The most recent monthly payout ticked up to $0.271, with the next payment set for August 14, 2026.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $206M in net inflows on July 21, per data tracked by CoinGlass, completing a six-consecutive-day run that totals more than $900M, the longest unbroken positive streak since May.
This inflow streak comes as the Bitcoin price reclaimed the $66,000 level (which it has since lost) and market sentiment entered neutral territory for the first time in nearly a month.
(SOURCE: CoinGlass)
This is not simply a rebound in ETF flows. It is a structural re-engagement by institutional capital following one of the more damaging periods of outflows the Bitcoin ETF complex has endured since its January 2024 launch.
The **** ytical question is no longer whether June's selling pressure has exhausted itself; it is whether the current inflow cadence is durable enough to shift the medium-term supply-demand balance.

BLAINE, Minn. – Scottie Scheffler is taking a page out of the Bill Belichick playbook. He's moving on to the 3M Open, jet lag be ***** ed.
"I made it to my alarm this morning. Yesterday I was up at like 3:45," he said on Wednesday during his pre-tournament press conference. "Today I woke up for my 4:15 alarm, so that was definitely better."
After finishing T-4 at the British Open at Royal Birkdale, Scheffler isn't wasting any time reflecting on what could've been.
"No, I definitely haven't done that already. During the year, I just get pretty into the competition. So like with the cadence of the schedule, it really is kind of one week to the next. I always do my best to kind of live in the present, so I wouldn't say I reflect a whole lot," he said. "Right now, this week, we're in Minnesota and I spent the last day and a half kind of getting ready for this tournament."
Scheffler said he thinks this is his first trip to the Land of 10,000 Lakes and certainly his first time teeing it up at the 3M Open. It's a big deal for a tournament in its eighth season on the PGA Tour that has struggled to attract the top players in its usual date following the end of the major season but before the FedEx Cup playoffs heat up.

QDTE's weekly distributions have dropped from a $0.35 per-share average in 2024 to $0.19 in 2026 as VIX compression steadily shrinks option premiums.

With a trailing 12-month yield near 48%, the question every QDTE holder needs answered is not whether the checks will keep arriving, but whether they will keep arriving at anything close to today's size.
QDTE does not own the NASDAQ-100 outright. Its March 2026 NPORT filing shows roughly 90% of the fund's $798.9 million in net ****** ets tied up in four derivative positions that synthetically replicate the index, while the remaining collateral sits in the First American Government Obligations fund and the Roundhill Weekly T-Bill ETF (WEEK). When former Michigan forward Yaxel Lendeborg was growing up, the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers were one of the biggest rivalries in the NBA. And like most sports-watching fans at his age, he had to pick a side.
So when it came time to argue with his friends, Lendeborg defended Kyrie Irving and the Cavaliers, per ESPN. It reached a point where Lendeborg said he "used to hate" Warriors star Stephen Curry.
Now, he's going to have to adjust to being Curry's teammate. The Warriors used the No. 11 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft on Tuesday to select Lendeborg out of Michigan. During his post-draft presser with media, Lendeborg admitted he "used to hate" Curry.
Lendeborg called it a "full-circle moment."
That's quite the revelation to make hours after you were drafted by the team that employs Curry. But if you listened along with the cadence of Lendeborg's answer — and saw him smile through it — it's clear he has no malice toward Curry now.

Every year, FTSE Russell rebuilds its family of U.S. equity indexes from the ground up, ranking every eligible U.S. company by market cap, setting new cutoffs between large-cap and small-cap, and adding or removing hundreds of companies from the Russell 1000, Russell 2000, and Russell 3000 indexes. With roughly $12.2 trillion in investor ****** ets benchmarked to Russell indexes, the reconstitution's final day generates one of the largest coordinated waves of forced buying and selling in markets all year.
In 2026, this event is bigger than usual for two reasons. First, this is the inaugural semi-annual reconstitution: FTSE Russell moved from an annual schedule to a June-and-December cadence starting this year, meaning index membership will now be reviewed twice annually instead of once. Second, ****** eX is entering the Russell 1000 on Friday under a new fast-track rule, and the mechanical buying that forces is estimated at $22 to $27 billion.
The reconstitution takes effect after U.S. equity markets close on Friday, June 26, 2026. Changes become live for trading on Monday, June 29. Friday afternoon is when all the action happens, with every ETF and index fund benchmarked to a Russell index rebalancing its portfolio to match the new membership list by end of day. That means selling every stock being removed and buying every stock being added, simultaneously, in proportion to their index weights. The result is a surge in trading volume at the 4:00 p.m. close — the 2025 reconstitution saw $217 billion trade in the final minutes of the session.
SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX) is the marquee addition to the June 2026 reconstitution. The company went public in June with a pre-IPO private valuation of approximately $1.75 trillion, and under FTSE Russell's newly adopted fast-track entry rule, companies with investable market caps above the Russell Top 500 breakpoint can enter Russell indexes after just five trading days of listing rather than waiting for the next scheduled reconstitution.
SpaceX's entry into the Russell 1000 (and Russell Top 200, given its scale) means every ETF and fund tracking those indexes must purchase SPCX shares proportional to its index weight. Combined with MSCI's parallel fast-track inclusion, near-term estimates put mechanical buying at $22 to $27 billion — a concentrated demand shock for a stock that only began trading weeks ago.

The World Cup is expensive. The World Cup is snarled roadways. The World Cup is $98 NJ Transit tickets, and bickering with our New York neighbors, and five weeks with our regularly scheduled lives thrown into a blender. Or, at least, that’s how I felt at 6:01 p.m. on Monday when a man from Norway grabbed me in the MetLife Stadium parking lot and unofficially changed my citizenship.
“You are one of US now!” he announced.
We had just watched a few hundred of his — er, our — fellow countrymen sit near the muddy backstretch of the Meadowlands Racetrack to row an imaginary boat in the pouring rain. This is something Norway fans have done on escalators, in Times Square, even on one of our unglamorous commuter trains from Secaucus. As cool as the social media videos look, the vibe is much, much wilder in person.
“RO!” they yelled in unison after the bang of a drum, with the cadence quickening after a few pulls of their invisible oars.
“RO! ...... RO! ...... RO!”
