One of the greatest defensive players to ever touch the turf and perhaps the greatest defender in NFC South history, former Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly delivered a memorable speech during this year's Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony. A former divisional foe who made a living making life miserable for Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints offense, Kuechly didn't hesitate to take a subtle shot at the Saints while also sharing some genuine praise for his old rival.
As Kuechly paid his respects to the other inductees, he couldn't help but bring up Brees and former Saints head coach Sean Payton. After years of battling the Saints twice a season, Kuechly had a unique memory that had less to do with their on-field battles and more to do with the atmosphere inside the Caesars Superdome.
Kuechly spoke of a specific song that was played after Saints touchdowns that still gives him headaches to this day: "If I hear that song 'Stand Up and Get Crunk,' it ruins my mood. I can't stand it." It was a hilarious reminder of just how much the Caesars Superdome atmosphere could get under the skin of opposing players.
But Kuechly's playful jab at the Saints was quickly followed by some genuine praise for Brees, whom he considers the best player he ever faced: "Drew, you're the best player I've ever played against. Michigan basketball is set to add another blueblood to its schedule.
The Wolverines are in the process of finalizing a two-year deal with Louisville, a program source with knowledge of the plans confirmed to the Free Press. The plan is to play in Detroit at Little Caesars Arena this season, with a "return" trip to be played next season in Indianapolis.
This season's game could potentially be played Dec. 5, though the teams are still finalizing the dates.
This appears to be an ACC replacement for a matchup with Duke in December. That game against the Blue Devils was nixed after being originally scheduled for New York then Miami.
It's yet another big-time name Michigan will play in a schedule that already includes an exhibition against Houston, and nonconference games against UConn (in a rematch of April's national championship game), Villanova and Marquette. Detroit — Day 2 of USA Hockey's Summer Showcase practice camp saw a pair of Red Wings draft picks flank a top 2027 draft prospect, and the trio turned some heads.
Detroit draftees J.P. Hurlbert and Victor Plante played with 2027 draft-eligible Sammy Nelson and looked like a strong group as Team USA evaluates a 48-player group contending for December's 25-man World Junior roster.
Hurlbert and Plante, drafted by the Red Wings in the first and second rounds, respectively, last month in Buffalo, bring strong offensive toolkits to the grouping. Nelson dominated drills at both ends of the ice at Little Caesars Arena's Belfor training center. The group played with an attacking mindset, and that meshed well with the identity Team USA is preaching at this early camp.
"There's a lot of good players out there, and it's going to be competitive to make the team for sure," said USA coach Adam Nightingale, the head coach at Michigan State.
"But definitely, some guys you can tell are starting to step off the page a little bit."

The American Idol alum announced in February that The Kelly Clarkson Show would end in the fall.
Clarkson joked that, for example, she wanted to compliment someone when they'd lost weight.

I asked what his remaining goals were besides being the third three-time winner, along with former NFL quarterback Tony Romo and former MLB ace Mark Mulder.
Wagner simply wants to be part of the 85-plus celebrity field for NBC's annual celebrity golf tournament moving forward. He also wants to continue proving he has plenty left in the tank at 66 years old.
"So every year, I'm really, really grateful to get the invite," Wagner said. "If I can be competitive, I'm 66 years old…That's my goal. As you get older, you lose that grind part; you think you have it, but you don't. That's my goal, to keep my grind up this year."

Earlier reports from this offseason were confirmed on Wednesday when Michigan State formally announced an upcoming Thanksgiving Day matchup with Arkansas this season. The game will be played at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich., with tipoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET on November 26.
The game will be televised on CBS and follow the Detroit Lions' annual Thanksgiving matchup that kicks off earlier in the day.

If this makes anyone think I’m unpatriotic, so be it. I prefer to look at it as being a fan of the story: the underdog, the team that had to overcome the unexpected, far from home in front of a loud, packed house.
If this was the U.S. playing Great Britain in London, with England having its red-carded best player restored at the last minute at the king’s suggestion, of course I’d cheer for America’s team … even if the U.S. coach were from Argentina and its best player a citizen of three countries, including the opponent.

Now it's time to begin showing them what professional hockey is all about.
The Wings will host their annual development camp Monday through Thursday at the BELFOR Training Center inside Little Caesars Arena. The camp features on-ice skill development and NHL-level off-ice workouts each day from Wings development team coaches.
Former Wings players Daniel Cleary and Niklas Kronwall, now both part of the development staff, handle most of the on-ice instruction.
There is no evaluation of any sort. This is about young players, in many cases 18- to 20-year-olds, learning about the next step in their hockey careers and what they have to do to reach their goals.

One of the NFL's most puzzling offseason moves, or lack thereof, involves the New Orleans Saints and Alvin Kamara. The expectation has been that he will eventually be traded, yet the Saints have shown little urgency in making a move.
At this point, Kamara could understandably be frustrated, as it appears increasingly clear he is not part of the team's long-term plans.

Reports suggest that Saints insiders currently project Kamara as the backup running back behind newly signed Travis Etienne Jr. While the expectation is still that he will eventually be moved, that outlook only adds insult to injury at this stage. PWHL Detroit won’t have to worry if their second pick of the 2026 PWHL Draft knows her way to Little Caesars Arena, where the team will take the ice this winter for its inaugural season.
Detroit stayed close to home in taking Port Huron native Casey Borgiel, a defender from Colgate, with the No. 22 overall pick in the draft at the Fox Theater on Wednesday, June 17.
Borgiel demonstrated her knowledge of metro Detroit when asked on the PWHL YouTube channel about her route to LCA.
