Jai Opetaia put on a clinic on Saturday night.
Heading into his second bout under the Zuffa Boxing banner, Opetaia showed out. The undefeated star defended his Ring Magazine **** le and Zuffa Boxing **** les in a dominating display against a tough veteran. Noel Mikaelyan, his opponent, had his moments and made the fight somewhat competitive, but the Australian upped his gear and was strolling to a decisive victory before landing big in the ninth.
A crafty vet of the boxing world, Mikaelyan was using all of the tools at his disposal to frustrate the champion, but it would be his downfall.

It's only Week 1, but a lot is on the line as the Vikings and Packers meet for the 132nd time on Sunday. Both teams will be looking to make a statement to start the 2026-27 regular season. Let's dive into the matchup, scouring every nook and cranny for details that will help decide the latest border battle between the NFC North rivals.
The sense I have is that the Vikings should (and do) feel confident going into this game, even if it's a small Vegas spread and there are a lot of Week 1 unknowns. They're at home, where they've won four of the last five meetings with the Packers. Green Bay is without leading rusher Josh Jacobs and has major questions on the offensive line. The Packers have some talented defenders but may struggle to generate a consistent pass rush without their superstar on that side of the ball, Micah Parsons.
The one area of concern that the Vikings must limit to win the game is Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love. Minnesota is well aware of how talented Love is. He's not going to be as rattled by Brian Flores' complex blitzes as other QBs might be. Love is plenty capable of delivering accurate throws downfield while staring down pressure.
"His growth and development has been outstanding," Flores said on Thursday. "He's just grown and grown. Whether it's cadence, whether it's on the ball, no-huddle, he's got total, total command and understanding of what they're trying to do. Obviously he's got a great coach and they work extremely well together. Great rapport with his receivers. He's always been super talented. Just a naturally gifted, accurate thrower of the ball. It's actually been fun to watch him grow.

The Cleveland Browns were nearly dominant on defense last season, finishing fourth in the NFL in total defense. A major part of their success last season was the record-setting performance by Myles Garrett, who set the all-time sack record with 23.0. Garrett has been moved to the Rams, and replacing him is a formidable pass rusher in his own right: Jared Verse.
With the ESPN top 100 recently released, Verse would come in at number 69, somehow dropping down 14 spots from his 55 ranking in 2025:
The Browns traded a two-time Defensive Player of the Year in Myles Garrett, but Verse was a cornerstone, not a consolation prize, for Cleveland in the blockbuster deal. The college football world is stunned at what unfolded in Ann Arbor.
Michigan struggled mightily against Western Michigan and the Broncos were on the verge of a major upset Saturday night, and it looked like it happened when the clock struck zero and the Broncos secured a 12-7 victory. However, the officials ruled there was still time on the clock, granting the Wolverines one last chance.
It did so, with Bryce Underwood connecting with JJ Buchanan on a 41-yard Hail Mary touchdown in a miracle finish for the Wolverines.

While there was plenty of jubilation for Michigan and no doubt the touchdown counted, many people questioned if the play should have happened in the first place, given it seemed like Michigan ran out of time when it tried a Hail Mary the first time.

A major age-fraud crackdown has hit Bengal cricket, with the BCCI suspending leg-spinner Rohit Yadav from domestic cricket for two years after discrepancies were found in his age-related documents.

The action comes shortly after Rohit was picked for India's Under-19 ******* ignments against Australia. The youngster had also featured in India's U-19 tour of Sri Lanka in July, where he took six wickets and helped the team secure victory in the final Test.

Rohit, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, had recently been part of India's U-19 tour of Sri Lanka in July. He claimed six wickets on the tour and played a key role in India's victory in the final Test. The spinner was subsequently selected for India's U-19 home ******* ignments against Australia, with multi-day and one-day matches scheduled to be played in Rajkot and Ahmedabad later this month. However, his selection came under scrutiny after inconsistencies were found in his age-related documents during the Sri Lanka tour.

According to the PTI report, Rohit has three birth certificates that list different years of birth - 2007, 2009 and 2010. The discrepancies make him ineligible for age-group cricket and prompted further verification of his records.

The 19-year-old, who has represented Bengal in age-group cricket, was found to have an age discrepancy of 27 months, according to the CAB. The ban is effective immediately, with all BCCI-affiliated state ******* ociations notified of the decision.
Rohit's case is part of a much wider crackdown by the CAB on age and documentation irregularities. The ******* ociation has declared 62 players ineligible for registration or transfer for competitions during the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.

The CAB has also barred 62 other players over similar age discrepancies. Among them is former India Under-19 World Cup-winning pacer Ravi ******* ar, who played a key role in India's ******* le-winning campaign in the 2022 edition in the Caribbean.

Ravi, a left-arm pacer, made his senior debut for Bengal in 2022 but last featured for the state in 2023. His age-group records from his debut through the 2025-26 season will now be considered invalid. His age discrepancy is understood to be more than 40 months.

Mainland offensive lineman Chevin Davis' suspension appeal was denied by the Florida High School Athletic ***** ociation on Sept. 2, head coach Jerrime Bell confirmed in a text message to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
Davis was ejected from the Buccaneers' opener against Carol City on Aug. 21 when Chiefs defensive tackle Michael Williams Jr. suplexed Mainland quarterback PJ Miller well after the ball had left his hands for a third-quarter incompletion. Davis came to Miller's aid and ***** ped Williams to the ground. He did so a second time when he saw Miller still down a few seconds later.
According to Bell, he was told on the field Davis was ejected for shoving Williams to the ground and standing over him. That was changed to "an open-hand slap or blow" in the official report, per Bell.
Section 30.2.1.1 of the FHSAA handbook states an ejected athlete is ineligible to compete for the remainder of that contest and a minimum of the next game. It can be appealed, as the Bucs did in Davis' case, and the FHSAA can reverse, modify or uphold the suspension.

The verdict is in regarding the Kawhi Leonard saga, and the results are not good for the All-Star forward or his soon-to-be former team.
A months-long independent investigation found the Los Angeles Clippers illegally circumvented the NBA salary cap when they facilitated outside endorsement deals with a collection of team-friendly sponsors, the league announced Wednesday.
Those sponsors were Aspiration Partners, Boingo Wireless, Daktronics and Lockton Insurance.
The resulting penalties are staggeringly stiff.
Due to what the league called a pattern of misconduct uncovered in the investigation, headed by the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, the NBA has suspended team owner Steve Ballmer from all league and team activities for a year. He has also been fined $30 million.

Fitzgerald twice took lighthearted jabs at lightning rod LSU coach Lane Kiffin during his debut radio show on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
The first came when offensive lineman Conner Moore joined the broadcast with Fitzgerald, host Dalton Shetler and former MSU running back Jehuu Caulcrick. Shetler listed a bunch of superlatives for Moore, a senior who played a team-high 765 snaps last season for the Spartans and was fifth in the Big Ten with an 80.4 run blocking grade after arriving from Montana State.

When you think of College GameDay, you think of a festive, joyous atmosphere that celebrates college football and campuses around the country. But it wasn't always that way, especially if Lee Corso dared to pick the visiting team.
Before his retirement at the beginning of last season, Corso's mascot headgear pick was the climax of the program and one of the highlights of televised sports every week across the fall. Thankfully, ESPN has decided to retire the tradition along with him as it hasn't been picked up since. But the hype and anticipation for who he would pick and whether he would ride with the home team or dare to go against the grain was a huge deal.
And it was apparently too huge for some.
Longtime College GameDay ******* yst Kirk Herbstreit appeared on The Press Box podcast with Bryan Curtis at The Ringer and detailed a couple of scary incidents where fans were so upset over Corso's headgear picks that they actually threw projectiles at the set in the early years of the road show. Once it was a golf ball, and another time it was a full beer can. Herbstreit said that after the second occasion, the show put up a protective net behind the stage to ensure the safety of the on-air personalities.
"I remember two different occasions. We were at LSU doing an LSU-Alabama game and Corso picked Alabama. And he put on an elephant hat. This is before he did the helmets. And he had a massive Alabama red or crimson flag with an "A" on it and he's picking Alabama right in the heart of Baton Rouge. And here comes a golf ball flying from I don't know, 30 yards out, and it just happened to hit the flag that he was waving and it landed right on the desk," Herbstreit said.

Kamaru Usman thinks there are still plenty of matchups for Anthony Hernandez at middleweight after UFC Fight Night 285.
After winning eight fights in a row, Hernandez (15-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) has now lost two straight to current UFC 185-pound champion Sean Strickland and Gregory Rodrigues, the latter of which came this past Saturday at Golden1 Center in Sacramento, Calif., in front of his home fans.
Henry Cejudo floated the idea of Hernandez dropping down to welterweight, but Usman says that's unnecessary.
"Welterweight? Why do people always do this thing?" Usman said on his "Pound 4 Pound" podcast with Henry Cejudo. "OK, just because someone loses, like, yeah, got to switch weight classes. No, there's a lot of guys there in that division for him to fight. … Looking at the rankings, there's so many guys in that division, (like) Israel Adesanya. Man, there's a lot of guys in that division for him to potentially fight. So it's not just, 'Oh yeah, he lost to him, he's gone.' We've got Caio Borralho, we've got Christian Leroy Duncan. You've got so many guys here."
Usman sees Hernandez as a perfect ticket to the top 10 for Bo Nickal (9-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC), while also giving Hernandez the opportunity to kill a highly touted contender's hype.

ATLANTA (AP) — Chris Sale struck out 11 in a five-hit shutout, Drake Baldwin launched a leadoff homer against Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and the Atlanta Braves edged the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 on Thursday night to complete a three-game sweep.
Sale (13-9) did not walk a batter. The left-hander posted his fourth double-digit strikeout game this season and the 95th of his career, which ranks seventh all-time.

The Golden State Valkyries responded to back-to-back losses with consecutive wins, their latest coming Wednesday night against the Connecticut Sun, 89-64.
The Valkyries' losses to the Chicago Sky and Minnesota Lynx really tested the team – one a loss to a marquee team in Minnesota, which boasts the best-record in the league, then losing on a game-winning, step-back 3-pointer at the buzzer to the Sky.
Golden State responded to those tough losses with some get back against the Lynx, returning the "L" back to them and getting its first win against Minnesota in the franchise's short, two-year history.
The Valkyries capitalized on that momentum with Wednesday night's rout against the Sun, with the Valkyries (27-11) scoring a franchise-record 54 bench points.
"We have had some slow starts in the past few games, and given the team energy, so we wanted to make sure that we punch first today, and then continue punching all four quarters, so that was an emphasis, to really set the tone and dictate and not react," Kaila Charles told reporters after the game.

It really seemed like Ashton Jeanty avoided a devastating injury over the weekend. The Las Vegas Raiders running back reportedly couldn't put weight on his leg on Sunday, but reports said it was a sprained ankle.
ESPN's Ian Rapoport provided more details as Mike Washington Jr. could be the RB1 for the Raiders for a bit: The ankle injury is "more low than high" (there would be bigger concern if it was a high ankle sprain) and it's not major.
On top of that, as he said on NFL Network Tuesday morning, "The reality is, there is a chance that Ashton Jeanty may not be on the field for Week 1. They are hopeful that he will be, there's a chance that he won't be."

LSU men's basketball made an addition to its roster on Friday. According to a report from On3, Donovan Dent committed to the Tigers. The former UCLA guard was one of 73 players in California granted a temporary restraining order against the NCAA, allowing him to play for a fifth year.
The addition is arguably the biggest since head coach Will Wade came to Baton Rouge. Dent fills an immediate need at the starting point guard spot for the upcoming season. He averaged 13.3 points and 7.6 ******* ists last year, his only one with the Bruins.
Dent played his first three seasons of college basketball at New Mexico. He filled a critical reserve role as a true freshman before becoming a full-time starter. Over his four seasons, he averages 13.4 points per game on 48% shooting from the field and 33% from three-point range.
Should Dent's signing go through, LSU would have five players on its roster. Divine Ugochukwu, Abdi Bashir, Austin Nunez, and Mouhamed Dioubate are the only players listed on the team website. Wade landed other commitments, but they're awaiting eligibility decisions.

A 19-year-old sprinter said reaching the semi-finals of the European Athletics Championships was "a dream come true".
Ebuka Nwokeji, from Northampton, competed in the men's 200m race during his first tournament as a senior British international in August.
He was the youngest male athlete selected for Great Britain's team in Birmingham and clocked 20.83 seconds, finishing sixth in his semi-final heat.
"I feel blessed to have even been able to compete; To make a senior team and to make the semi-finals is a dream come true," Nwokeji told BBC Radio Northampton presenter Jake Sharpe.
Italy beat Great Britain by one gold to finish top of the medal table during August's tournament.

The cost to view the fourth-ever WNBA matchup between Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark from the upper deck — less than a week after the scintillating third meeting in Indianapolis — was not overly prohibitive.
The show had different stars and a different result this time. The Dallas Wings notched maybe their most-needed win of the season with a 91-85 victory over the Indiana Fever, at last finding some equilibrium after losing Azzi Fudd to season-ending knee surgery and sliding into eighth place in the WNBA standings. It also ended the Fever's five-game winning streak and prevented them from clinching a playoff spot on their first try.

This NBA offseason has been an unforgettable one. Both Jaylen Brown and Giannis Antetokounmpo have been traded. LeBron James is on a new team. So much has happened. While there can only be one NBA champion each season, there are a handful of teams that believe they are best suited for the job. Each season, rosters around the NBA change drastically. Players get traded, they sign to a new team, or get drafted. Some teams make good moves, some make bad. Some make a lot, some make none. The Chicago Bulls have finally begun trending in the right direction, and it all started at the draft lottery. While the Bulls were projected to have around the 9th pick in the 2026 draft, they jumped all the way to the fourth spot and selected Caleb Wilson. A very fortunate beginning to new General Manager Bryson Graham's career. Wilson is exactly what the Bulls needed and what most teams search for. A young player who has star potential that they can build around. In summer league, Wilson looked extremely polished. He is super athletic, proved he can stretch the floor, and truthfully did everything you could ask for in a 20-year-old.

After the Minnesota Vikings beat the New York Giants in their first preseason game, we have some more tangible play on which to base early evaluations of players on the Vikings' roster. So which players helped their cause on Saturday- and which ones hurt it? Here is a stock market report for the Vikings as they head into joint practices with the Baltimore Ravens later this week. I focused on the quarterbacks, rookies, and those further down the depth chart.
Kyler Murray. Nothing spectacular here, but he was able to run the offense without any big hiccups and at least managed a scoring drive on the one drive he played. A good first trial run.
Carson Wentz. Also showed he can run the offense well after he was given a half-game of snaps. Looking more like QB2 at this point.
Jacob Thomas. Not to be confused with third-round pick Jakobe Thomas. Jacob Thomas is a safety and a UDFA rookie out of James Madison. He had the most reps of any player on both defense and special teams and had the highest PFF grade of any special teamer (82.3) and was tied for the most special teams tackles (2) and was also the second-highest PFF graded defender (92.5) with one tackle for a stop, 2 ******* ists, and an interception. He has impressed in training camp as well and all that is how an unheralded UDFA makes the roster. He was taking some first-team reps in Monday's practice.
Max Bredeson. He only had seven snaps on offense, but he showed he can be an effective role player at fullback in the Vikings' evolving offensive scheme. He also did well as a core special teamer. He looks like he'll be an upgrade over C.J. Ham.

The home side began the game in control, pinning the opposition deep in their half. Nunes had the first chance curling a shot just wide of the post.
The Bees continued to push for the opener and Michel Boni's clever cross caused pinball action in the box and the eventual deflection off Mohamed Keita almost found his own net.
Carvalho went close, beating his opponent and then striking firmly at goal but his effort went wide.
Balcombe was called into action with the final shot of the first period and the goalkeeper made a tremendous stop to keep the scores level.
It was more of the same dominance as the young Bees continued to put pressure on the Blues in the second period. Neat combination from Dasilva and Carvalho saw the latter fizz a shot goalwards which Samuel Keller saved well.

The undefeated Russian fighter is set to challenge champion Alexander Volkanovski in the main event of UFC 333 – which is set to go down on Oct. 24 in Abu Dhabi. MMA Junkie confirmed the news with multiple sources following a report from Вестник ММА, and the UFC made it official during Saturday's UFC 330 broadcast.
This bout marks the second ******* le defense of Volkanovski's (28-4 MMA, 15-3 UFC) second reign as UFC featherweight champion. Volkanovski initially held the belt from 2019 to 2023, becoming one of the greatest featherweights of all time. He lost the belt by KO to Ilia Topuria in 2024, and then recovered it when Topuria moved up to lightweight in a vacant ******* le fight against Diego Lopes in April 2025. Volkanovski went on to defend the belt this past February in a rematch against Lopes.
Evloev (20-0 MMA, 10-0 UFC) has been pursuing the UFC ******* le for well over seven years. Despite being considered by many the No. 1 contender in the featherweight division for a couple of years now, Evloev has yet to get a crack at the ******* le. He's gone 20-0 in his professional MMA career, with half of those wins being under the UFC banner. In his last outing back in March, Evloev defeated Lerone Murphy in a majrity decision.
