Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables had good things to say about Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood after a 17-10 victory for Michigan over his Oklahoma Sooners. Underwood gashed Oklahoma for 87 yards on the ground, including a rushing score from 38 yards out.
"He's actually exactly who we thought he was," Venables said. "A really talented guy. He's big. He's strong. He's hard to get down one-on-one. He fell forward too often on the quarterback run game. He's got a great future in front of him."
This isn't the first time Venables has been highly complimentary of Underwood. Last year, he compared Underwood to Jacksonville Jaguars QB and former Clemson star Trevor Lawrence. And earlier this week, he said great things about Michigan's young QB even after he struggled against Western Michigan in the season opener.
"One of the most talented players at any position in all of college football. All of his best days are still in front of him," Venables said.
Saturday was certainly a good day for Underwood. Michigan was an underdog, and they weren't expected to win by virtually anyone, yet they did, albeit in a close game and one that Underwood threw for just 111 yards while completing 53% of his passes. Venables is as good a defensive game planner as there is in college football; therefore, his compliments of Underwood should hold some weight. While Rogers was at South Dakota State before his one year stint at Washington State, he was not leading the Jackrabbits for the 7-3 game back in 2022.

It's a battle of two surprise division winners from a year ago, with each team hoping to get a jump start to the season.

Yuto Nagatomo, the last ******* anese player in the history of the Nerazzurri, and also the first, turns 40 today.
He arrived through one of those winding transfer routes, in a loan swap with Cesena in January 2011. Davide Santon went to Emilia-Romagna, while Inter welcomed a ******* anese full-back who was barely 1.70 metres tall, and powered by seemingly endless batteries that always left him with more energy than everyone else. Seven of his first nine goals for Inter came in the final half-hour, when he was still charging forward. The secret? Umeboshi. ******* anese salted plums, a great remedy for fatigue. Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is beloved by his players. Whether it was during his time as a position coach, defensive coordinator, or now in his second tenure as an NFL head coach, Quinn is loved and respected across the NFL.
There's a reason why you hear other prominent players on rival teams express their love and respect for Quinn, such as Micah Parsons. Jose Mourinho's side are aiming to bounce back after their narrow defeat at the hands of Real Betis last weekend, and three points would take them level with arch rivals Barcelona, who are not in action until Sunday.

"We're going to have opportunities, guaranteed opportunities," he said when asked about his Week 1 opponents. "I mean, they want to get their season started off right. Throughout the offseason, Chiefs players and coaches have spoken with a lot of excitement about running back Kenneth Walker and what he can bring to the offense.
That trend continued on Thursday with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who noted the versatility Walker has displayed in practice through training camp.
"You've got to use that guy," Mahomes said of Walker in his Thursday press conference. "I mean, he's a talented football player. He runs tough. He has speed. He can break a touchdown at any moment. He can catch the ball. He does kind of it all.
"And so, when you have those guys on your team, you find ways to get them the football. If that's either just handing the ball off to them or throwing it to them, you've got to and so we got him for a reason. He came in with the right mindset and mentality, and he's really attacked this offseason. It's only Week 1, but a lot is on the line as the Vikings and Packers meet for the 132nd time on Sunday. Both teams will be looking to make a statement to start the 2026-27 regular season. The sense I have is that the Vikings should (and do) feel confident going into this game, even if it's a small Vegas spread and there are a lot of Week 1 unknowns. They're at home, where they've won four of the last five meetings with the Packers. Green Bay is without leading rusher Josh Jacobs and has major questions on the offensive line. The Packers have some talented defenders but may struggle to generate a consistent pass rush without their superstar on that side of the ball, Micah Parsons.

There is a monster of a defensive lineman growing up about an hour and a half down the road in Louisville, and Kentucky is doing everything it can to keep him home.
Kellan Hall, a 2028 defensive lineman out of Christian Academy of Louisville, is one of the most talented young players in the entire country. 247 Sports has him as the No. 1 defensive lineman in the nation and a top-10 overall prospect in his class. Rivals actually lists him second overall in the class of 2028.
At a listed 6-foot-4 and right around 275 pounds, with the frame to keep growing well past 300, he is exactly the kind of trench player programs build their defenses around.
Recently, Hall trimmed his list to 12 schools, and the Cats made the cut. Kentucky is in there alongside Oklahoma, Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon and Tennessee. Liverpool are reportedly set to lose a talented prospect from their academy to one of their biggest rivals.
The Reds have made a happy habit of acquiring prodigious gems from the underage setups of other clubs across the UK, with Harvey Elliott (Fulham), Rio Ngumoha (Chelsea) and Trey Nyoni (Leicester) among the standout examples in recent years.
However, the shoe is now on the other foot as a certain club from along the M62 put the final touches on the signing of an up-and-coming talent from Merseyside.
On Monday evening, Fabrizio Romano took to X to report that Manchester United have completed a deal to sign Liverpool academy midfielder Isaac Konde, with the Italian including his trademark 'here we go'.
The 16-year-old is 'all set' to join the Red Devils after 'formal steps' were completed over the past couple of days.

Now, at the grand old age of 22, she is the Grand Slam champion and leading WTA Tour star who drew on her experience to deal with talented 18-year-old Iva Jovic at Flushing Meadows.

The San Francisco 49ers have their 2026 team captains. The same list as 2025. During his Sunday press conference in preparation for the 49ers' Thursday game against the Los Angeles Rams, Kyle Shanahan gave the list of team captains:

As said above, if that list seems familiar, that's because it's the same list as last season. The 49ers vote on who makes it as a captain, so this means the leadership pecking order in the locker room remains unchanged.
The 49ers are a very talented roster, but the fact that the list remains the same as a year ago, with no new faces, probably won't help the criticisms that the team is too "old." The 'newest' name on this list is Lenoir, whose ascension last year essentially filled the vacancy left by Deebo Samuel.
While we can debate the roster's age all we want, established veterans doing the heavy lifting means they have capable leadership. Hopefully Bosa can stay on the field to help the defensive line turn a corner. The same goes for Brock Purdy and George Kittle. With a rookie De'Zhaun Stribling impressing in the preseason, having Purdy and Kittle to look up to will be invaluable.

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz posted his most convincing win so far, downing Tommy Paul in straight sets Sunday to reach the US Open quarter-finals, where two-time women's champion Aryna Sabalenka will meet Wimbledon winner Linda Noskova.
Second-seeded Alcaraz, playing his first tournament since he was sidelined by a right wrist injury in April, looked closer to his brilliant best in a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Paul.
The 20th-seeded American posted the sternest test yet for Alcaraz, and he passed it with flying colors.
"I played my game," said Alcaraz, who unleashed 33 winners as he moved fluidly around the court in the two-hour 20-minute match.
"I tried to play my style," he said. "Tommy is such a talented player. His shots are pretty dangerous and sometimes it's really difficult to control the ball when it comes to you.

The Michigan Wolverines pulled off one of the most stunning wins in recent memory Saturday night. While there was some controversy surrounding the end-of-game scenario that added an extra second to the game clock and allowed them score a walk-off touchdown, the bigger story is that it happened against Western Michigan.
The Wolverines entered this year with one of the more talented rosters in college football, including five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood and four-star wide receiver Andrew Marsh. They began the season ranked No. 16 – two spots ahead of Penn State — but now that position will be reevaluated.
Michigan struggled mightily throughout the game, going scoreless for more than 50 minutes of game time before connecting on the Hail Mary. They ultimately pulled out the win, but that isn't the type of performance you want to put on the field against a far inferior opponent.
There is a chance the Nittany Lions will be ranked ahead of Michigan in the next AP Poll, and more importantly, that mid-October battle at The Big House could become the biggest game of the season. With the Wolverines being one of only three ranked teams that Penn State is slated to play this season, a win in that game could have significant implications on their College Football Playoff odds.
Obviously, we are only one game into the season, and a lot can change in the six weeks until that game. But with no clear powerhouses on the schedule, the Nittany Lions need to begin recalibrating what this season can look like if they take care of business.

A little bit of personal story-time to start this week's Sinners & Saints. Yesterday was the first Roma match that my girlfriend watched all the way through in a serious way. She's a fan of football in general, but follows the NWSL most closely. Thanks to my work with Chiesa di Totti, she knows what's going on in a general way with Roma most of the time, and we've both been thinking for a while that it would be great for us to watch Roma together this season. Her main experience with seeing me follow Roma has been witnessing my frustration: she knows Roma is generally a club with talented players that fail to meet expectations, a club always just on the outside looking in.
Because of some scheduling issues for the first two matches, yesterday was her first time watching a match this season in full (whereas previous seasons, she didn't want to watch because it was "kind of depressing." Fair enough.). 45 minutes in, she was impressed albeit deeply frustrated with Roma's inability to get the ball past Marco Carnesecchi. 85 minutes in, I thought I was introducing her to the apotheosis of what happens when Roma Happens; when no amount of combined talent, no amount of good form, no amount of opportunities on goal seems to be capable of defeating the destiny of Roma to be just one tier below the best of Italian and European football, for eternity.
Then, of course, came the six minutes where Roma turned a 0-1 loss into a 2-1 win. I was on the edge of my seat (literally, my Uber nearly got into an accident) when Matías Soulé scored his stoppage time goal to preserve Roma's perfect record and keep the hopes of something greater for this season alive. I'm still feeling shocked and thrilled that the Giallorossi pulled this one off, and what a game to use to truly introduce my girlfriend to Roma. Roma did concede, and Roma did look as if they were going to lose this one for most of the second half; given that, I had to anoint at least one player a sinner. But make no mistake: this match felt more exciting to me than either of the multi-goal clean sheets that started the season, and in my book is a far better signal for just how high this Roma can go than either the win against Lecce or Fiorentina.
One quick aside before diving into the sinners and saints: my love for Mile Svilar knows no bounds, but if yesterday's match taught me just about anything regarding a non-Roma player, it's that I want Marco Carnesecchi to be Italy's goalkeeper moving forward. What an incredible performance; this one could have and should have been a 5-1 rout, if not for his 9 saves.
He got the game-winner in stoppage time, so he has to be the first saint on the list. MatìGol (can we start calling him that?) put in an excellent shift as a substitute, garnering himself an 8.7 rating from SofaScore after coming on for Rodrigo Mora in the 54th minute and practically willing the Giallorossi to the win. The Argentine attacker had seven total shots, three of which were on target; while

Florida's 66-21 victory over Florida Atlantic was an offensive showcase for the Gators, but the same couldn't necessarily be said for the defense.
Despite the lopsided final score, Florida's defense had its share of struggles throughout the night. FAU quarterback Caden Veltkamp threw for 276 yards, while the Owls added another 120 yards on the ground.
The Gators also had trouble containing Kelby Vasin, who finished with 10 receptions for 92 yards and was a consistent, reliable target for Veltkamp.
There is plenty for Florida to clean up defensively before it faces more talented competition, but one player who consistently made his presence felt was linebacker Myles Graham. Throughout all of the defensive deficiencies, he still showed up and caused havoc against FAU, earning him defensive player of the game.
