The transition toward renewable energy is creating massive opportunities for infrastructure providers. Eos Energy Enterprises (NASDAQ:EOSE) and GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV) represent two distinct ways to play this trend in 2026.
Eos focuses on specialized zinc-based batteries for long-duration energy storage. GE Vernova is a diversified giant that services a massive portion of the world's electricity grid. Comparing these two helps clarify whether you prefer a high-growth disruptor or an established power leader.
Eos Energy Enterprises produces aqueous zinc batteries designed as a safer, scalable alternative to lithium-ion. It operates primarily within the industrial stocks **** e, targeting utilities and commercial developers. Customer concentration like this adds a layer of risk to the business, as two clients accounted for approximately 70% of total revenue in 2025.
In FY 2025, revenue reached approximately $114.2 million. This represents growth of nearly 631.8% compared to the prior fiscal year. The company reported a pre-tax net loss of roughly $969.6 million, resulting in a negative net margin of approximately 849.1%.
As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the company had a debt-to-equity ratio of -1.0x. This value indicates that total liabilities exceed shareholder equity. The current ratio, which measures the ability to cover short term obligations with short term **** ets, was approximately 4.9x, while free cash flow was nearly negative $265.0 million.

On September 9, 2026, Reuters reported that U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sent a letter to Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) CEO Jim Farley criticizing the automaker's business relationships with Chinese battery maker CATL and Chinese automakers Geely and BYD as raising "profound concern."
It specifically flagged Ford's licensed CATL battery technology at its Marshall, Michigan plant, its joint venture with Geely in Spain, and its decision not to move Lincoln Nautilus production out of China until 2030. Ford responded that Duffy's letter was "a wrongheaded attempt to capture headlines," noting that it owns the Marshall plant, controls its operations, and employs the workforce there, unlike companies that simply import Chinese-made batteries.
Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) can argue that its CATL partnership still solidifies U.S. battery manufacturing rather than becoming more dependent on Chinese imports. Ford owns and operates its Marshall, Michigan battery plant. It allows the company to manufacture batteries domestically while licensing CATL technology. That structure could help Ford expand its U.S. EV production capacity and reduce the need to import finished Chinese battery packs.
Ford's improving financial performance gives the firm more flexibility to manage the political pressure. The automaker raised its full-year adjusted EBIT guidance to $10 billion-$11 billion after second-quarter results exceeded expectations, with record Bronco sales and a stronger product mix supporting the improvement. Stronger operating earnings could give Ford more resources to adjust its battery strategy if policymakers impose more restrictions on Chinese technology.
The company's existing U.S. manufacturing footprint could become a competitive advantage if Washington tightens restrictions on Chinese automotive technology. Ford has already invested in domestic battery production instead of relying entirely on imported battery packs. Model e losses have narrowed for three consecutive quarters. If policymakers force automakers to cut Chinese supply-chain reliance, Ford can use its existing U.S. factories to adapt faster than rivals that depend heavily on Chinese parts.

On September 14, American Battery Technology Company (NASDAQ:ABAT) held its fiscal year 2026 earnings call, and for once the numbers matched the ambition. Revenue at its flagship recycling facility jumped more than 400% to $21.7 million, and the company posted its first-ever adjusted gross profit. But on the same call, CEO Ryan Melsert disclosed a federal directive that could choke off exports of one of the plant's key products, black mass, a reminder that ABAT's fortunes are still tied tightly to Washington.
Revenue jumped over 400% year over year to $21.7 million, fueled by higher throughput at the company's first recycling facility and increased sales of byproducts. Cost of goods sold rose only 67% over the same stretch, evidence that fixed costs are spreading across a much bigger volume of material. Even more telling, operating cash spend actually fell 16% even as throughput at the plant more than quadrupled. That combination pushed American Battery Technology to an adjusted gross profit of $1.7 million, a sharp turnaround from the $6.2 million loss it posted a year earlier.
The balance sheet tells a similar story. Cash climbed to $49.5 million as of June 30, 2026, and total ***** ets reached $133 million, up sharply from the prior year. The company also erased all of its long-term debt during the year, leaving it with a clean balance sheet heading into a period of heavy capital spending.
Growth plans are already in motion. A second recycling facility planned for the Southeast U.S., designed to process 100,000 tons of batteries a year, is backed by a $150 million grant from the Department of Energy, and a separate $10 million DOE grant is funding three next-generation recycling technologies. On the mining side, the Bureau of Land Management certified the company's plan of operations for its Tonopah lithium project in Nevada, home to an identified 21.3 million tons of lithium hydroxide, including 2.7 million tons of proven and probable reserves. The project also won a FAST-41 priority designation, intended to speed up federal permitting.
The clearest risk surfaced on the call itself. The US Department of Commerce issued a directive that effectively bans the export of black mass, the concentrated metal byproduct of battery recycling, unless a company obtains a specific exception. American Battery Technology has submitted a request for that exception, but as of the call, Commerce had not issued a formal response, and the company is storing black mass at its facility in the meantime.

For those of an earlier generation, ******* an and football had one connection: the adventures of Captain Tsubasa, known as Oliver Hutton in the West, the fictional young striker who would go on to play in Brazil before moving to Europe. The cartoon became a reality with Hidetoshi Nakata, the distinctive and talented attacking midfielder who made his name with Perugia and won the Scudetto with Roma, paving the way for a wave of ******* anese players in Serie A at the turn of the millennium. One of them even made his way to Milano, via Emilia-Romagna.
Yuto Nagatomo, the last ******* anese player in the history of the Nerazzurri, and also the first, turns 40 today.
He arrived through one of those winding transfer routes, in a loan swap with Cesena in January 2011. Davide Santon went to Emilia-Romagna, while Inter welcomed a ******* anese full-back who was barely 1.70 metres tall, and powered by seemingly endless batteries that always left him with more energy than everyone else. Seven of his first nine goals for Inter came in the final half-hour, when he was still charging forward. The secret? Umeboshi. ******* anese salted plums, a great remedy for fatigue. He ate them before every game. It was also the result of a thoroughly Eastern discipline, combined with a football education that arrived slightly later than usual. Yuto did not come through the academy at a major club. He played football at school until he was 20. At first, this was a tactical limitation; later, it became a strength. He moved in ways which were neither conventional nor codified, which led him into extreme situations. He would, for example, end up in the opposition box, more often than you might expect, even scoring a header at Marassi in 2011. It was the kind of game you can picture, with Nagatomo scoring 1-0, despite almost always being the shortest player on the team. Or right on the edge of the box, as in Turin the following year, when, at the end of a scrappy but determined move, he set up Rodrigo Palacio for Inter's final goal in a 3-1 win away to Juventus, their first victory there in nine years. Or when he had the courage, or perhaps the recklessness, to take the decisive penalty; Inter vs Pordenone, a one-off Coppa Italia tie, an astonishing 0-0 after 120 minutes. It was the ******* anese player who spared Inter the embarrassment in a half-frozen San Siro, called upon by the entire stadium to take the final penalty. "Yuto, Yuto, Yuto." It was an inevitable goal which secured a place in the next round.
Nagatomo really did become Captain Tsubasa, both because, like the hero of the manga and anime, he made it to San Siro, and because he actually appeared in the manga, or rather, in Holly and Benji. In 2019, he even dubbed himself. Because sometimes it is hard to tell fantasy from reality.
Happy Birthday, Yuto-San.

This is an exciting time for investors. Emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and electric vehicles (EVs), offer strong investment opportunities in innovative businesses.
One such company is QuantumScape (NASDAQ: QS). It sits at the intersection of AI and EVs, since its solid-state battery technology can provide power for both. The company recently announced the creation of business units dedicated to these two areas, and a third focused on other markets, including aerospace and defense.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
After hitting a 52-week high of $19.07 in 2025, the stock fell to a low of $4.77 toward the end of July and has remained near that level. Is this a buy opportunity? Here's a closer look at QuantumScape and whether it's a worthwhile investment.
The energy density, power performance, and safety profile of QuantumScape's solid-state batteries caught the attention of Volkswagen, which has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the battery maker over the past several years. Volkswagen isn't the only interested party.

Kraken Robotics (OTC: KRKNF) stock has been struggling lately. The company's share price hit a lifetime high of $8.13 per share in March, soon after it was announced that the marine technologies company was acquiring Covelya for 615 million Canadian dollars, but its stock has now lost more than half of its value since hitting that valuation peak.
Valuation multiples for next-generation defense tech companies have generally come down in subsequent trading. Investors are concerned about the potential integration risks with the Covelya acquisition, and the company's recent second-quarter report showed relatively modest growth. As a result, Kraken stock is now trading down roughly 21% year-to-date and 55% from its 2026 high.

Should investors be buying the stock in September?
Kraken Robotic is a leading provider of subsea batteries for uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs), synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) for ocean-floor mapping, and other subsea intelligence and navigation solutions. Through its acquisition of Covelya, the company has also significantly broadened its product portfolio and expanded its capabilities in positioning, scanning, and overall subsea robotics.

On August 5, Cirrus Logic (NASDAQ:CRUS) reported record first-quarter revenue of $459.7 million, up 13% year over year, alongside non-GAAP earnings per share of $1.84, a June quarter record for the company. Smartphone component demand carried the print, and executives struck a confident tone about content growth across cameras, batteries and power circuits. But that optimism sat next to a quieter admission: the company's PC segment outlook for fiscal 2027 just got smaller, and the reasons behind that cut matter for anyone weighing this stock's next chapter.
High-performance mixed-signal revenue climbed 26% year over year to $210.7 million, as Cirrus Logic expanded its footprint across camera, battery, and power applications inside smartphones. CEO John Forsyth pointed to a multi-generation collaboration with the company's largest customer on camera controllers, plus continued work on a Smart Power IC for 3D sensing that stayed on schedule through the quarter. Audio, the company's flagship business, still grew 3.7% to $249.0 million on demand for custom boosted amplifiers and smart codecs, and Forsyth said those parts should keep shipping across multiple future product generations.
The company is also pushing past smartphones. During the quarter, Cirrus Logic taped out a new family of ******* og front-end components aimed at smart meters, with sampling expected in the September quarter and potential spillover into EV charging, data center metrology and grid monitoring. On the PC side, a new low-power smart codec built for always-on wake word detection drew strong customer interest, and products using Nvidia's RTX Spark platform are expected to ship later in 2026 carrying Cirrus Logic amplifiers and codecs. A fresh wafer supply agreement with GlobalFoundries locks in capacity and pricing through calendar 2028 and advances a shift toward domestic manufacturing in Malta, New York. Underneath it all sits $1.2 billion in cash and investments, no debt, and $598.6 million in trailing 12-month operating cash flow, funding $34.5 million in share buybacks during the quarter and another $50.5 million afterward.
The company trimmed its fiscal 2027 PC segment outlook, and Forsyth laid out three specific culprits: constrained supply of a key industry platform, memory and component shortages pressuring pricing across the PC market, and OEMs responding by delaying new model launches and stretching the life of older platforms. Those delayed models typically carry higher content and higher volume for Cirrus Logic, so Forsyth said the slippage "pushes out some of the growth we would otherwise have seen in our PC business this year."

It's no secret AI giants are racing against each other to build data centers across the country. With the AI boom skyrocketing in the 2020s, the U.S. has grown to nearly 5,000 data centers across all 50 states to date, with hyperscalers driving much of that expansion. But with that growth comes tax incentives that seem to scale further than market competition.
According to a report from JLL, a commercial real estate and investment management company, the global data center sector will likely expand at a 14% compound annual growth rate through 2030—and it notes "hyperscalers will remain a key driver of sector growth." And with that growth comes significant savings for the hyperscalers: nearly three-quarters of all states employ tax incentives for data center development—which include exemptions from sales and use tax, property tax and "financial transactions" tax.
The eligibility of these exemptions differ state by state, however. Some states like Texas require a substantial—at least $200 million—capital investment in the data center project, others such as Maine require a certain amount of square footage to be eligible, and a few states also require employment metrics to be met. Certain states, like New York, have no minimum investment requirement—and to sweeten the deal further, the tax exemptions are applicable for a wide range of data center expenditures.
Such measures are evident in the New York Department of Taxation and Finance structure, for example, in which data center tax incentive eligibility covers property, services, equipment and contracts. The incentives for the data centers themselves lie in the inherent replacement cycle required for upgrades and system life.
Capital expenditures like electrical systems, batteries and structures have usable lives in excess of 20 years—but other types of equipment such as cloud computing operations often have lives of as short as three years due to the high strain of AI computing. Based on the nature of equipment churn, the Tax Foundation found that a $5 billion data center could "easily spend more than a billion dollars a year on machinery and equipment," making sales taxation a "significant" consideration when choosing development.

QuantumScape (NASDAQ: QS), a developer of solid-state batteries, went public through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) on Nov. 27, 2020. Its stock opened at $24.80 on its first day and closed at an all-time high of $131.67 on Dec. 22, 2020.
Before going public, QuantumScape claimed it could commercialize its first batteries by 2024, and that its revenue would soar from $14 million in 2024 to $275 million in 2026. But as of this writing, it hasn't commercialized any batteries nor generated any meaningful revenue yet.

That's why QuantumScape's stock plummeted 96% to its current price of about $5. Will it bounce back next year as it makes more progress toward launching its first batteries?
QuantumScape's solid-state batteries have higher charging capacities, shorter charging times, and better thermal resistance than liquid-based lithium-ion batteries. But they're also more expensive and challenging to manufacture than their lithium-ion counterparts.

I keep hearing people say they want to own Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) stock but are waiting for a better price, and I understand the instinct, because the stock has swung between $297.38 to $498.83 over the past year. The problem is that Tesla is already 30% off its high while deliveries grew 25% and energy storage jumped 40%, so the discount everyone is waiting for may already be here.
Tesla is down roughly 17% over the past four weeks, and I think that pullback is the entry point rather than a reason to wait for a deeper one.
Tesla trades today roughly 25% below its 52-week high, and about 23% above its 52-week low. Over the past 12 months, the stock has risen by 9.5%, meaning a year of operational progress has produced half the average price appreciation of the S&P 500, which is up by about 19%. Tesla's forward price-to-earnings ratio sits near 207, with a trailing multiple of about 340, so ***** ody is buying the stock based on its current earnings math. If you're buying it at all, you're doing so based on your view of what the company is building.

Second-quarter deliveries hit 480,126 electric vehicles (EVs), up 25% year over year, compared with 451,758 vehicles produced. The energy storage business deployed 13.5 GWh of capacity in the quarter, up 40% from 9.6 GWh in the prior-year quarter and up 53% from the 8.8 GWh it deployed in 2026's first quarter. It was Tesla's second-largest quarterly increase in storage ever, behind only the 14.2 GWh it added in the fourth quarter of 2025. ***** ulative deployments now exceed 132 GWh since 2016, with 22.3 GWh in the first half of 2026 alone.

On August 29, Reuters reported that Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (NYSE:HMC) and Nissan Motor could reach an agreement as soon as the following Monday to jointly develop a vehicle operating system and onboard computer, according to ***** an's Nikkei newspaper. The tie-up would target new models arriving as early as 2029 and marks the clearest sign yet that the two ***** anese automakers are rebuilding cooperation more than a year after their $60 billion merger talks fell apart. Honda has plenty riding on getting both the technology and the timing right.
Honda told Reuters it is discussing "potential areas of collaboration" with Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors under their existing strategic partnership, though it stressed no deal has been finalized. A Nissan spokesperson said the company is exploring "various possibilities" and would share details once something is confirmed. Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa said earlier this month that talks with Honda over software collaboration were underway, and on Honda's own fiscal first-quarter earnings call, management confirmed it is exploring cooperation with Nissan on software-defined vehicles, batteries and shared vehicle platforms to pool volume across both companies. A shared computing platform could let Honda spread the cost of software development across a far larger base of vehicles, an advantage smaller automakers rarely get on their own.
That potential collaboration comes as Honda's core business is performing better than expected. Operating profit for the fiscal first quarter, reported August 5, reached a record JPY530.7 billion, powered by an all-time high JPY233.9 billion motorcycle profit on strong demand in India and Brazil. Automobile operating profit held at JPY192.1 billion despite a rough patch in China, a 5% margin management attributed partly to a JPY78.1 billion positive tariff impact. In the United States, high gasoline prices pushed buyers toward Honda's hybrids, and the company captured a 10% share of the market in April and May, its best showing in five years. Management responded by raising full-year operating profit guidance to JPY650 billion and adjusted operating profit, which excludes EV-related losses, to JPY1.17 trillion, while holding the dividend at JPY70 per share and keeping a JPY3.3 trillion net cash position.
China remains the biggest drag. Management said the country's combustion-engine and hybrid market shrank by about 40% in the quarter, and Honda's retail units there fell 50% year over year, even after the company moved early to extend its joint venture with GAC through 2028 to calm dealers. Honda is also still absorbing the cost of its shifted EV strategy, forecasting JPY520 billion in EV-related losses for the full year, a figure it revised to reflect foreign exchange effects on compensation talks with North American suppliers that remain unresolved.

South Korean battery manufacturer Samsung SDI Company announced that it plans to sell down its stake in Samsung Display Company, an affiliated manufacturer of digital displays for the automotive and other end-user sectors, as it looks to free up capital for investment in future growth businesses.
In a regulatory filing, the company confirmed that it has agreed to reduce its stake in Samsung Display from 15.2% to 10.2%, by selling 13.09 million shares each priced at KRW 304,000, freeing up a total of KRW 4.45 trillion (US$ 3.2 billion) in new investment capital. Samsung Display said it would buy back the shares from Samsung SDI as treasury stock, with the final valuation subject to change during the repurchasing process.
Samsung SDI has faced rising investment demand in the US, reflecting falling sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the country following policy changes by the US government, including the withdrawal of BEV purchase incentives worth up to US$ 7,500 per vehicle last year.
This has prompted manufacturers such as Samsung SDI, LG Energy Solution and SK On to convert some of their newly-built capacity in North America from automotive batteries to energy storage systems (ESS), while also buying out their vehicle manufacturing joint venture partners for some of this capacity.
Samsung SDI recently agreed to take over General Motors' almost 50% stake in its Synergy Cells joint venture, which was established in 2024, giving the South Korean battery maker full control of the US$ 3.5 billion battery plant under construction in New Carlisle, Indiana.

SAO PAULO (AP) — The world is increasingly turning to Brazil to explore for rare earth minerals that are crucial for technology and renewable energy. The country's large reserves are second only to China and have attracted investors, many of them with foreign support.
An ***** ysis by The ***** ociated Press and Reporter Brasil of all National Mining Agency records through June shows that rare earth exploration applications have surged, with more than 86% filed in the past three years, including 268 in the first half of 2026.
The interest is already raising environmental concerns for the Amazon and other areas.
Here are takeaways from the story:
Rare earth minerals are a group of chemicals essential in digital and defense technologies, used in electronics, magnets and batteries. They are also used in wind turbines and electric vehicle motors, critical to the transition away from fossil fuels like oil, gas and coal that cause global warming. The International Energy Agency estimated in 2022 that demand for rare earths could increase at least threefold by 2040.

LG Energy Solution has started production at its new battery manufacturing facility in Lansing, Michigan, as the South Korean company expands its North American supply base for both energy storage systems and electric vehicles.
The 226-acre plant is designed to reach more than 35 gigawatt-hours of annual battery production capacity at full scale. LG Energy Solution said it has invested more than $2 billion in the facility since 2022 and expects employment to increase from about 900 workers currently to 1,700 at full production.
The Lansing plant will manufacture lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, cells for energy storage applications as well as higher-energy-density nickel-manganese-cobalt, or NMC, cells for electric vehicles.
The LFP cells will be integrated into utility-scale and commercial storage systems by LG Energy Solution Vertech, the company's U.S. energy storage business. Michigan utility DTE Energy will be among the customers using Lansing-produced batteries for future energy storage projects.
The expansion comes as U.S. electricity demand is rising, driven in part by data centers, manufacturing and broader electrification, increasing demand for grid-scale storage that can help utilities balance electricity supply and consumption.

The autonomous driving industry is moving rapidly towards commercialization, with competition intensifying as firms race to commercialize robotaxi services both domestically and overseas. China, in particular, is gaining growing recognition as a major player in the autonomous driving race.
Driverless vehicles are becoming a common sight in China, with companies including Baidu, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIDU), WeRide and Pony AI Inc. (NASDAQ:PONY) operating commercial robotaxi services within select areas. The country's self-driving industry stands apart because it builds around a network of companies.
Autonomous vehicles are being made by established carmakers, specialists develop the software, and use the same batteries, sensors, and chips and as electric cars. The government is backing up the initiative through pilot programs, and China's complex traffic environment helps generate vast amounts of data to improve software.
In its latest endeavor, Chinese autonomous driving company Pony.ai has announced a planned and potential overseas robotaxi deployments of more than 4,000 vehicles, aiming to expand beyond China. This macro setup remains favorable for long-term demand, but profitability inherently depends on factors such as regulatory approvals, vehicle economics, and utilization.

On the hottest of summer days, a natural gas "peaker" usually kicks in to support the wave of air conditioning units turning on at once. It's the electrical grid's lifesaver, a turbine built only for the highest-demand hours of the year, and also one of the most expensive to run. It's what made 7 p.m. electricity so expensive in different parts of the U.S in the first place.
But a shift is taking place. California and Texas are now turning to batteries to power their grids. Power units that were typically used simply to store energy are now being deployed as power sources themselves. California's grid operator has at least 13,000 megawatts of battery capacity, enough to serve several million homes through evening peak hours, and Texas' batteries already power up to 10% of the state's grid at peak.
Electricity customers see the benefits. When batteries set the marginal price instead of gas turbines that cost two to three times as much to run, wholesale power gets cheaper during the hours it used to be most expensive. Gas peakers that already sat idle for more than 86% of the year will eventually lose the few remaining hours that kept them viable, and utilities will likely choose batteries over new gas plants long term.
Unlike gas turbines, batteries don't generate electricity on their own. They move it from the hours when it's cheapest to the hours when it's most valuable. Solar panels flood the grid with power in the middle of the day, pushing wholesale prices close to zero and sometimes below it. Batteries absorb that cheap surplus. When the sun sets and demand surges past what the remaining generation can deliver, they discharge into the gap that gas peakers once filled, offering to do it at a lower price.
In California, the cycle has run at a scale large enough to reshape the wholesale market. In 2024, across the California Independent System Operator's territory, batteries provided an average of 8.6% of all electricity consumed during the highest-demand evening hours, keeping the lights on in roughly three million homes. By 2025, they were regularly delivering more than 6,000 megawatts at peak, six times the roughly 1,000 megawatts they managed three years earlier.

China flooded the world with cheap solar panels a decade ago, driving Western competitors out of business. It did the same with electric vehicles, prompting tariffs from Washington and Brussels. In 2025, the pattern repeated with batteries. Chinese manufacturers who had built twice as many factories as the world needed slashed prices to keep them running, pushing stationary storage packs down to $70 per kilowatt-hour, 45% cheaper than the year before. The decline was steep enough to reshape what power companies pay for electricity during the most expensive hours of the day.
Chinese overbuilding was the biggest single force behind the price collapse, but it wasn't the only one. A shift toward cheaper battery chemistry, a crash in lithium prices, and a decades-long accumulation of manufacturing improvements all hit at the same time, each amplifying the others. On its own, any one of those forces would have pushed prices down gradually. Their convergence is what turned a steady decline into a collapse.
Cheaper batteries are good news for electricity costs and for the climate. But the conditions that made them possible are unwinding. Lithium prices have already rebounded, and the tariffs designed to counter China's trade practices are adding new costs of their own.
Chinese battery manufacturers spent the early 2020s building factories at a pace that ***** umed electric vehicle demand would keep surging. It worked for a while. By 2024, China produced enough battery cells — the basic units that store electricity and power electric vehicles — for every car sold on the planet that year. But global manufacturing capacity far outstripped what anyone needed. At roughly 2,600 gigawatt-hours, the world's factories could supply every battery the market demanded and still have enough idle capacity to outfit nearly every home in America with its own storage system.
Even as the surplus became apparent, manufacturers kept adding capacity through 2025. The world's battery factories nearly doubled their capacity to more than 4,000 gigawatt-hours of cells a year — more than four times what the market actually bought — with China accounting for more than 80% of the total.

CAIRO (AP) — Palestinians face inflated prices for groceries and batteries, hospitals have turned to smugglers for medicine and equipment, Israeli soldiers and other middlemen are accused of pocketing millions of dollars, and the Hamas-led government takes a cut as the smuggling of goods restricted by Israel into the Gaza Strip has boomed, according to an ******* ociated Press investigation based on court documents and interviews with traders, truckers and officials.
Cigarettes and tobacco — banned from entry to Gaza since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023 — rake in the biggest profits for smugglers and merchants, officials and residents say. But everything from iPhones and solar panels to fuel and anesthetics are also brought into the tiny coastal territory illegally. Israel restricts quantities of some goods and bans others outright. It defines many as "dual use" — including concrete, vehicle parts and X-ray machines — ******* erting they could be repurposed by Hamas militants for military functions.
To build a picture of the illicit trade, The ******* ociated Press ******* yzed Israeli court documents and spoke to five major traders who import smuggled goods, three merchants who sell them, and two truckers — all on condition of anonymity because of their roles in the illegal smuggling business and concerns about their safety in Gaza. AP also interviewed four Palestinian officials, two on condition of anonymity because of worries about retribution from Israel, Hamas or merchants; two U.N. officials, on condition of anonymity over concern for their jobs; and a dozen Palestinian residents, who spoke about how they get everyday items and their skyrocketing costs.
AP found a rush from all sides to profit off the tight restrictions imposed by Israel on Gaza and its 2 million residents, most of whom have been displaced by the war. Smuggling rings — which have long flourished, circumventing two decades of Israeli blockades and building a network of businessmen and collaborators — pull in millions of dollars. Payoffs go to Israeli troops, drivers, warehouse workers and others on both sides of the border, according to traders and court documents.
"The occupation has left no other option before us. Smuggling has become routine," one trader said, noting that some in Israel's military are willing to help — for a price. "We benefit, they benefit and the people in Gaza benefit because we provide goods, including food, to the market."

FRANKLIN – At least for a day, a Marquette University golf program group text of alumni, coaches and players could be draining batteries across the area as the Golden Eagles made their presence felt Aug. 16 during the first round at the 106th Wisconsin State Open at Tuckaway Country Club.
Golden Eagles ***** istant coach Josh Robinson and senior Mason Schmidtke finished the day tied for first place, along with University of Wisconsin freshman Cody Guetzke, at 5-under par 67.
Chasing the leaders is Marquette alumnus Brandon Cloete at 4-under. Cloete, who finished his college career at Marquette in 2015 and plays out of Madison, was the first-round leader of the Wisconsin State Amateur before finishing tied for fourth.
Of all the blue and gold peppering the leaderboard, Robinson was the one with the best chance to take the solo lead after the first round as he approached the 18th hole at 6-under, but he couldn't save par. It was one of just two bogeys on the day for the Northern Irishman, who said he's played more this summer than he has in recent years.
"I don't think you ever abandon any idea of playing, especially once you get to this level it always brings you back," said Robinson, who is about to begin his third season as a coach with his alma mater after finishing his college career in 2024.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chicago Cubs' grind through 17 consecutive games without an off day ended on a high note.
The offense broke out against Kansas City Royals starter Randy Dobnak and the bullpen, and left-hander Matthew Boyd allowed just two runs over seven innings in a 10-2 victory to secure the series victory. The Cubs (69-50) enter Monday's off day — their first since July 23 — with a 12-5 mark over the 17-game stretch.
The lack of off days required manager Craig Counsell to find ways to build in rest for their regulars. That meant Pete Crow-Armstrong was the designated hitter for a second consecutive game and the third time in five games as Counsell attempted to "recharge some batteries the best I can right now."
The Cubs' series win keeps them rolling. Their 35-16 (.686) mark since June 11 is second-best in the big leagues during that span behind the Boston Red Sox — after the Cubs had posted a majors-worst 7-22 stretch prior to this run.
"Our starters have performed exceptionally well, and that's been the key to this thing," Counsell said of playing 17 straight. "You don't survive it without good starting pitching, and the number of quality starts, whether it be length or lack of runs given up, it's been impressive for sure, and it's got us through this, and it's helped us win games. Because the length the starter is able to give you contributes to what happens the next day in the bullpen, and they've done a heck of a job."

After Santiago Castro and Konstantinos Koulierakis, Nahuel Molina will be the Giallorossi's third signing of the summer.
While awaiting the arrival of the right-footed left-back, Roma is preparing to welcome the Argentine full-back, formerly of Udinese and Atlético Madrid.
After the World Cup concluded on July 19th, Molina then enjoyed a couple of weeks of relaxation with his family before recharging his batteries and dedicating himself to his new adventure in the capital.
As reported by Matteo Moretto, in the next few hours, the Argentine will be in Rome to finalize the contract that will tie him to the Giallorossi for the next four years.
Molina will have the opportunity to integrate with his new teammates and try to immediately connect with Gasperini.

Ilika PLC (AIM:IKA, OTCQX:ILIKF, FRA:I8A) this week outlined continued commercial progress across its Stereax and Goliath solid-state battery businesses, with chief executive Graeme Purdy highlighting the company's transition into revenue generation alongside several commercial catalysts expected over the next 12 to 18 months.
Purdy, in an interview in the Proactive studio, said the most significant development for the Stereax business had been its move into commercial production, with Ilika now supplying commercial-grade electrodes to Cirtec for incorporation into the M300 medical device product, which is expected to reach the market later this year.
He said the company had already recognised approximately £100,000 in revenue during the previous financial year, describing it as an early indicator of future growth. Purdy added that a second revenue stream is expected to emerge through royalty payments once products incorporating Stereax batteries are sold to end customers.
Here, we take a closer look at what was said when Graeme Purdy joined the Proactive studio.
Proactive: You've described the past year as one of strong commercial progress. What do you see as the standout achievements across both the Stereax and Goliath programmes?

Tesla rival BYD (BYDDF), the world's largest electric vehicle maker, reported July sales rose 21.8% vs. a year earlier, gaining momentum thanks to strong overseas demand and improved production of its flash charging Blade 2.0 batteries.
Other China EV makers reported July deliveries as well, including Nio (NIO), XPeng (XPEV), Li Auto (LI), Xiaomi (XIACY) and Leapmotor.
Tesla (TSLA) does not release monthly China sales but industry data will provide those figures in the coming days. That comes after a report the Tesla is mulling selling its China unit to pave the way for a ******* eX merger. Elon Musk denied that as "fake news."
BYD (BYDDF) sold 419,211 electric vehicles, up 21.8% vs. a year earlier. It was the third straight month of year-on-year-growth, picking up from June's 5.5%. July sales rose 3.9% vs. June and were the highest since last December.
The automaker sells fully battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). It's regained the BEV crown from Tesla in Q2

Honda Motor and Nissan Motor plan to collaborate in the development of a new software operating system (OS) for their next-generation vehicles, as the two ****** anese automakers look to cut vehicle development and production costs amid intensifying global competition, according to local reports citing a source familiar with the matter.
As the automotive industry moves towards software-defined vehicles (SDVs), software and electronic hardware account for an increasing proportion of the cost of a vehicle, as advanced driver ****** istance systems (ADAS), autonomous driving, connected technologies, and AI ****** istants become core features in next-generation vehicles.
Nissan and Honda, which pulled back from a full merger in early 2025, have been discussing collaboration in a number of areas, including SDVs, and EV batteries and powertrain components.
These latest reports suggest that a new OS, which serves as the brain of a vehicle, will be developed based on Nissan's existing OS. The two companies also plan to share key electronic hardware, including electronic control units (ECUs), with a formal agreement expected to be announced next month.
The decision to standardise software and electronic hardware was apparently made following recent progress in preliminary joint development.

Tesla runs its earnings Q&A through a platform called Say Technologies, where shareholders submit questions and vote them up based on how many shares they hold. The idea is that the most pressing investor concerns rise to the top, giving Musk and his team a clear read on what the market actually wants answered before he gets on the call.
For Tesla's second-quarter earnings on July 22, the top categories looked predictable: FSD, Robotaxi, Optimus, Cybercab. And then, in fifth place, ****** eX. Not Starlink. Not ****** eX's technology. Whether Tesla and ****** eX might merge. Twenty-two questions on that topic made it onto the formal shareholder agenda, and Tesla investors want a direct answer from Musk, Business Insider reported.
The persistence of the question has a lot to do with how much the two companies already overlap. Tesla holds a stake in ****** eX. Tesla sold roughly $890 million in vehicles and batteries to ****** eX and its subsidiary xAI since 2023, and ****** eX spent $131 million on Cybertrucks in 2025 alone, according to the company's IPO filing.
Earlier this year, ****** eX acquired xAI. Tesla had put $2 billion into xAI, so that investment became a small equity stake in ****** eX when the deal closed, the first time a regulatory filing had formally connected the two companies, CNBC reported.

KHARKIV REGION, Ukraine (AP) — Through the grainy gray-and-white haze of thermal images streamed from a drone, Ukrainian pilots watch the roads that keep Russian forces supplied, hunting for targets with a fleet of midrange drones that is reshaping the battlefield.
In a basement command post in Ukraine's Kharkiv region, hundreds of kilometers from the drone over Russian-held territory, pilots wait for movement. When a vehicle appears, they will nudge the controller, sending the aircraft diving toward its target to disrupt Russian supplies deep behind the front.
"Our mission is to cut logistics," said Kat, commander of Ukraine's K-2 brigade, which fires midrange drones. "Cut off their supply lines, and the infantry on the front line have no food, no ammunition, no night vision, no batteries. Nothing. That's how we're wearing them down in every sense."
Soldiers spoke to The ***** ociated Press on condition their call signs and not real names be used, in line with military regulations.
By repeatedly striking the highways that carry fuel, ammunition and reinforcements, Ukrainian commanders say they have made logistics slower, costlier and far less predictable, helping stall Russian advances and enabling Ukrainian counterattacks and strikes into illegally annexed Crimea to isolate the peninsula from the mainland.

QuantumScape (NASDAQ: QS) wants to revolutionize electric vehicle (EV) batteries with its solid-state battery technology. The company has made good progress toward proving the concept and commercializing its technology.
That may lead investors to question why QuantumScape stock plunged 27.4% in the first half of 2026, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence. Here's a look at where the business and the stock stand at the midyear point.

We just covered The Next SanDisk: 9 Potential Breakout AI Stocks You Shouldn't Miss. QuantumScape Corp (NASDAQ:QS) ranks #3 (see The Next SanDisk: 5 Potential Breakout AI Stocks You Shouldn't Miss).
Number of Hedge Fund Investors: 35
QuantumScape Corp (NASDAQ:QS) is a battery technology company developing solid-state batteries for electric vehicles. The stock has plummeted 37% so far this year, with retail investors believing it could break out once the company actually starts producing batteries commercially. However, the stock carries heavy short interest at 15.36%, meaning a lot of investors are betting against it.
The bear case is straightforward: QuantumScape (NASDAQ:QS) has been making the same tiny 5 amp-hour battery cell for years. That's small. Like, not useful for actual cars. The company keeps shipping these B and B1 sample cells to partners, but it never scales up to bigger, more powerful versions that vehicles actually need. For a stock that's raised billions to revolutionize battery tech, that's a real problem.
But the company says the cell size doesn't matter yet. What matters is they figured out how to actually make these cells reliably. They upgraded their manufacturing process from something called Raptor to Cobra. The separator—the internal layer that keeps battery parts from touching—works way better now. Fewer defects. Faster production. They built a pilot line called Eagle Line and proved they can scale it up.
